I'm not a bar person, so when I hear "bar" I (probably unwarrantedly) think dark; obnoxiously loud; sticky floors etc. so this visit was just up my alley as it was none of that: Bi-level seating, super clean, loud but not obnoxiously so, with great staff. Since I wasn't indulging in alcohol, the bartender made me a "ginger shot" that I could go back for every night. So so delicious and refreshing! Filipino Pop Up Hosted at Morris Busy and tasty pop up was held a few weeks ago. It was extremely busy and we waited a few minutes, when I spied a little bit of counter where I could order a drink. The gentleman close by was kind enough to give me his seat, as he was about to leave. I order lumpia (Filipino egg-roll) which are very skinny and tasty. There was a few of them so I shared with my son. I was able to witness them mixing some beautiful and unique drinks, just look like the pictures. I tried Morris on a Friday with three friends. I arrived first and sat at the bar. It was around 6:30 and I knew there was 30 mins left for happy hour. The host didn't provide a HH menu so I had to ask the bartender. I went with the espresso martini which wasn't the best. It was premade in an Absolute bottle. When my three friends arrived we moved to a table. Thankfully a woman behind the bar provided better service and explained the menu options better. I visited this location for their happy hour and their live music summer series happening every Thursday. The decor inside is very cute and gives a dated classy feel. My friend and I ordered the happy hour drinks that were the bartenders' choice - a manhattan and a St. Germain spritz. Both drinks were perfectly concocted. A nice interactive space if you are a fan of the tv show and if not a fun and unique space to enjoy a night out. I've been here twice before and it's such an intimate, cute spot. It's essentially two stories, as the upper level is a loft. I've had small bites here and drinks - my favorite drink is their Paja 75 cocktail. This cocktail is the perfect cross between a Pisco sour and a French 75, which are two of my favorites. At Morris American Bar, they make it with Pisco, lemon, honey, raspberry, champagne. The mix of bits of raspberry in the drink is the perfect bit of acidity. Also, everyone here is so nice! The interior gives off the feel of an old school diner with a retro vibe although their drinks fall more under a tiki-style bar. There were lots of lights all over but overall it was still dim and intimate. My first drink was the rye ranger ($16) which was very balanced. It was slightly tart from the lemon, not super sweet, but not spirit forward either. It was a great tiki style drink. My second drink was the imperial city ($15) which was herbal and floral from the yellow chartreuse. It was fruity and another balanced drink. They have non-alcoholic drinks as well which was accommodating. Also, if you were curious like me and wondered what the ingredient "luster dust" was, I asked the server and she said that it is edible glitter. It feels as though they made the bottom floor cute and when they got to the upstairs they ran out of room and/or money and just but the most uncomfortable and bright orange seats they could find (it doesn't match anything downstairs). We were sat in the corner, directly above the bathroom. Someone decided to use said bathroom during our first 10 minutes and we could smell it so we had to reseat ourselves to the other empty end. Service-wise was not extremely welcoming, with no personality and not the friendliest and unfortunately an automatic 20% gratuity on all checks. When we ordered our drinks, I asked if any of the cocktails were sweet and rather than making some sort of recommendation, the guy just told me they were all balanced, which didn't help at all. They also brought my friend the wrong beer. There is so much potential here yet we will never be coming back because everything is just off. read more

What a surprise! My friend has been telling me to check out this spot for months now. Taco Tuesday kept getting pushed back, but schedules finally aligned and I got to go! Tuesday is the only day Morris has food, otherwise it's a cocktail bar! Cocktails typically range from $13-$15, but the Taco Tuesday deal is a good one. You can get 1 cocktail with 3 tacos, 1 torta OR 1 quesadilla for $20. Good deal with dealing with fancy drinks and tacos in the city, that's for sure! I decided to go with the chicken, pork shoulder & veggie tacos. They definitely felt and tasted like street tacos and my only critique is that the veggie one had more mushrooms than I care for (and that's just personal preference!), but it was enough to have me swap it out when I got my second 'special'. The carne asada taco I had was bomb! I find this spot to be perfect for a date. I could see myself being on the second level and staring down at others while vibing to their excellent music playlist, or being down there with the folks and just taking it all in. Though limited, the food menu is full of tasty sandwiches. The portobello grilled cheese was yummy and I added prosciutto which made it even yummier! Also, Morris has a great vibe, perfect for a date night or drinks with friends. The cons: the cocktails. As I scrolled through Yelp, Morris American bar popped up. I do what I always do and read the reviews and checkout the pictures and the menu. Everything looked in order so I added it to the list and let me tell you it was above and beyond what I wanted it to be. Let's start with the GOOD: The service was EXCEPTIONAL, the beverage director Doug took care of me and my wife all night and let tell you he can make some amazing cocktails. I ordered one from the menu and then I tested his knowledge with a couple classics (Aviation and Corpse Reviver #2). All the drinks were spot on, absolutely made to perfection. The inside of the bar is beyond gorgeous, I love the blueish gray color used throughout. Gives it a very nice and classy feel to it. Even the bathroom was stunning. Dress code is casual, I had a suit and tie on from dinner but jeans a shirt would work fine to. The noise level is perfect. No need to speak above a normal tone. This is a perfect spot for drinks on date night. The BAD: Really nothing bad at all to say. Maybe a wish and that would be that they have some sort of light snack. Really bad experience after about a dozen visits and I won't be returning. Ordered a penicillin which is my favorite cocktail which I've gotten almost on every visit here and the bartender didn't it make it properly. After my companion mentioned to him that I didn't like my drink he took it personally listing the ingredients and that he made it right. (Side note: I've bartended for years but ok bro). I told him it didn't taste right and he proceeded to throw the drink in the sink making a loud bang because of the large ice cube. This was not only immature but unprofessional. So for my second drink I got a different cocktail from a different bartender (not making that mistake again) and that was pretty solid. The second issue is that I ordered 2 cocktails over the course of 3 hours while my companion had 7 beers and 1 cocktail. So then he turned into Mr. Octopus and was massively slurring.
