    I love a hotel bar and Quill is no exception, but it is exceptional. Rather than splaying out in the hotel lobby, Quill is tucked away on the side in the elegant Jefferson Hotel. The location and the warm decor give it a cozy and clubby feeling - in a good way. Andrew and the other staff took great care of us. The drinks are creative and delicious (and commensurate with hotel bar prices). It's a lovely experience in the heart of DC!

    Was in the neighborhood on business and needed a snack and refreshments after a hard day's work. Quill hit the spot. Great service, great oysters, great arancini, and super draft beer. Highly recommended!

    This experience was everything!! A local influencer I follow (@onthemovewithmad) posted about this place and I knew I had to take my bestie here for the adorable grilled cheese and tomato soup. Three weeks ago we did a little staycation & foodie tour of our own in Logan Circle and ventured over to Quill in the frigid weather, which made our experience all the more perfect. First - The Jefferson hotel that houses this little lounge called Quill is simply gorgeous. I'm going to need to come back here and explore. Anyway, I'm going to call Quill a lounge, it was tucked away in a quant little part of the hotel with a full bar and luxury seating. And the music they were playing (think 50s nightclub with mellow blues & jazz) perfectly complimented the setting. We were luckily and I think the cold kept people away, so there was only another bestie couple at the bar. The bartender was our server and was very attentive. The drinks were pretty pricey, so we focused on the foot this go around. Apparently the Roasted Tomato Soup & Gruyère Grilled Cheese is an appetizer, but we each ordered our own. And man were we glad we did. It was served hot & fresh with the cutest presentation. The flavors were spectacular! The soup was steamy and the cheese oozed out of the perfectly buttery toast. Portion size was perfect for modest lunch, but it would be hard to she this with anyone cause it's just so good! Then we had the Baby Gem Salad and the kitchen split it for us, perfect presentation on two plates. Salad was fresh and fantastic. But wait - there's more! I can't remember the name of the desert for the life of me, but it was a perfect ending. These fried dough balls & dip were decadent! Positive we'll be back.

    After finishing up a day of sightseeing, my wife and I decided to revisit the quill. It's must been a dozen years since we've been here. I am very happy to see that they have not changed for the sake of change! It was the perfect place a 12 years ago and still was today! Our bartender made immaculate and picturesque cocktails! At one point she even mixed two different cocktails at once! We enjoyed their complementary nosh of mixed nuts and olives! As a bit of a dessert, we decided on their carrot cake cupcakes. Would've loved to stay there for about two or three more; however, we did have to drive back. Certainly off the beaten path unless you're staying at the Jefferson. Well worth the time to find though! Enjoy!

    The service was exceptional with the best bartenders (Jose) and staff. They make every customer feel like a VIP. Perfect place to have a romantic evening or business meeting. The food was amazing! Highly recommend the crab cakes, salmon tarte and oysters. Toast with a glass of authentic cava cheers ! Super unique and professional

    You only get to celebrate 10 amazing years of marriage once. Traditionally it is the Tin year. Forget that - we wanted to celebrate in style. We decided to go to the Jefferson hotel for our celebration. We originally had the hotel on our short list for our wedding reception but went with another venue a decade ago. With all that as background our first stop was the Quill bar and lounge. A great place to start with a nice cocktail. My wife had "Take a chance on me" and I had "La Boheme". Afterwards we shared "De-Peche-mode" The service was fantastic and they gave us some nuts and olives to share. Sitting outside on a beautiful evening got our celebration going in the right direction. If you want to have some amazing cocktails, you have to try the Quill.

    Lovely atmosphere for drinks with coworkers friends and loved ones. The drinks are fantastic. I had the excuse me, sir, which has Beyoncé's whiskey in it Sir Davis. And it was absolutely delicious. I also had the Arancini balls the tuna tart and they were both exceptional.

    This hidden speakeasy is one of my favorites in DC. Located inside the The Hamilton Hotel it's just what you didn't know you needed. The cool thing about this place is the small private rooms. Nicely tucked off you and others can privately meet. The menu is small but mighty. I highly recommend the herb your enthusiasm and oysters. But really you cannot go wrong with anything. Also, the bartenders are great -- so feel free to ask them to mix you up something off menu.

    Fast forward seven years from my last review and a friend and I grabbed a drink at Quill after nearby Allegory was full. Quill had a free corner table and had a quiet atmosphere. Service was impeccable and my cranberry vodka cocktail was perfect. My friend ordered a saffron-infused martini and was told it comes with "saffron prices." Little did he know it would be $128. The olives and nuts are still complimentary and the burrata is worth ordering.

    Quill is an expensive, gorgeous bar where you're paying for the ambience, location, and good-but-not-great food. I've been twice for different vibes, and was happy both visits: 1. Light dinner and drinks to catch up with friends 2. Coffee and snacks weekend afternoon

    This is a cool little bar tucked in the back of the hotel. The bartender was a ton of fun which is why I'd return.

We first got to know each other through shared love for a glass of wines (especially at a rooftop or outdoor wine bar on a gorgeous day in Manhattan), and we even had our wedding in Napa Valley. Ever since we moved to the DC metro area, we continued to enjoy trying new wines, but mostly in our home instead of outside, partly because Bethesda (where we live) doesn't really have a killer wine bar. When the team behind Lutèce and Pascual opened a new wine bar in Adams Morgan last year, I wanted to see if Maison Bar À Vins would solve that problem of finding a casual wine bar where we can try a few wines along with delicious food. I'm happy to report that our recent visit last month to Maison Bar À Vins was quite satisfying. For the Maison project, Matt Conroy (the executive chef of Lutèce and Pascual) put chef de cuisine Jason Chaveson (formerly at Reverie; still can't get over the fact it closed so abruptly) in charge of the kitchen, which is located downstairs away from the dining room. The relatively concise menu at Maison features mostly French dishes that are smartly prepared and also great for sharing. We both quite enjoyed the dish called tarama (a traditional Greek dip made from salted fish roe) inside seaweed choux buns. Same for the crispy tête de Cochon with rich, creamy Mornay sauce that was not as heavy as I would've expected. Getting one or two vegetables at Maison is also a wise choice. We liked the carrots with 'nduja and Bleu d'Ambert cheese, but it was the dramatically plated beet tart (I certainly didn't expect an entire chunk of beet on top of the tart) that really stole the show with terrific texture and freshness. For larger dishes, the brioche stuffed chicken seems to have quickly become a signature dish at the restaurant. The texture of the chicken breast was on point and the choice of green-colored brioche worked quite well. If you still have room for dessert, my vote is to go with the delightful profiteroles with banana and rhum that would not be out of place at a top bistro in Paris. We also tried the Basque cheesecake and Vin Jaune and wildflower-honey; based on the way Jun savored the soft cheesecake, I immediately knew it was a success. Getting a reservation at Maison Bar À Vins will definitely require advance planning, especially given the relatively small size of the dining room behind the bar area (which seems more amenable to walk-ins). I also was impressed with the breadth of the wine list covering different geographic regions in France and beyond, with many of the bottles at fairly reasonable price points and leaning on natural style. The darkly lit dining room where we dined was a little cramped but otherwise worked fine with as a nice dating spot or for gathering with friends and family. The service was overall friendly and seamless as well. We had a lot to like about Maison Bar À Vins with familiar yet well-executed food and an enticing wine list; I was told that the food and wine menu changes fairly constantly. I look forward to visiting again with Jun next time we see some significant changes to the menu. It is certainly a wine bar in DC worth visiting for serious food and wine experience.

No reservation and sat comfortably at the bar. Physical Examination Food - This place was absolutely delicious. We started with Arancini and Prosciutto e Polenta. The arancini was fried perfectly - crispy outside, warm risotto inside, and sitting in this savory-sweet tomato sauce that I could've honestly just eaten with a spoon (and basically did using the focaccia they give with your meal - which itself was delicious too). The arancini also has ground beef in the center, which adds to the flavor and depth of what is usually just fried risotto. The polenta fries with paprika aioli were fantastic too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more of the fries because there were only 3 to go along with the large plate of sliced prosciutto. The prosciutto itself was fine. Just standard quality prosciutto. For mains, we went family-style and shared three entrees: the pork ossobuco from the secondi menu, the tagliarini with shredded duck, and the cavatelli with rabbit and fava beans. The ossobuco was cooked well, though I wish the braise flavor went deeper into the pork. The truffle mushroom risotto underneath was incredible. Rich, creamy, and the fresh lemon and parsley gremolata on top cut through all that richness perfectly. The tagliarini was delicious, but my wife and I agreed that the duck flavor was a little lost in the rich marinara sauce. It didn't feel like I was eating duck, to be honest. You could've told me that was shredded short rib, and I might've believed you. The cavatelli was probably my favorite dish - those shell-shaped pasta pieces with rabbit and fava beans in a white wine sauce that had this unique flavor I haven't tasted anywhere else. There's a mild gaminess from the rabbit, but it was very subtle. Each time I had a fava bean, it was a fun change of pace in texture and taste as I was spooning this plate down my throat. It was so so good. Portions were generous too, which made the prices feel totally worth it. We left full and satisfied. My wife had a lambrusco spritz that was deliciously refreshing, and we shared some good wine throughout the meal. No complaints. Service - The bartender was really kind and attentive. Even though we weren't at a table, we didn't feel like we were getting second-tier service or anything. They checked on us regularly, made good recommendations, and kept everything moving smoothly. I also love a service that offers more table bread without needing to be asked. And their table bread was this fragrant focaccia, so I could've eaten all of whatever they brought. Ambiance - haven't been to a ton of Italian restaurants in DC, but I loved the vibe here. Intimate, cozy, dim lighting. The wine selection was great too - enough variety to be interesting without being one of those overwhelming 50-page wine lists. I think this would be a perfect date night spot. Assessment A high-quality Italian restaurant with creative takes on traditional dishes, generous portions, and an intimate atmosphere. A strong contender for the Adams Morgan dining scene, where restaurants are lined up right next to each other, and making a choice can be a bit difficult. The ossobucco with the risotto rice was extremely undercooked, where we could see the white middles of each grain of rice. The ossobucco itself was delicious though! I reached out on their website to share that we were a bit disappointed as we were there with friends who claim this is one of their favorite Italian restaurants in the DMV, and having multiple bones in a dish is not acceptable. Not coming back and saying something is also unacceptable. No one reaching back out after I emailed them, is equally very unacceptable.
