I asked if I could have a garden salad even though it wasn't on the menu. The server didn't ask if I wanted olive oil on it. We had a slight language barrier. The oil was a bit much on the salad. The hostess took it off of the bill. The roasted potatoes were awesome. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My friend enjoyed the grilled salmon burger. The server kept refilling the water glasses. I finally asked him to stop. I prefer being asked if I want more water. It was nice being able to hear each other during the meal. I'm a big fan of the Smoke Show with Elijah Craig Bourbon, Connemara Peated Whiskey, Amaro Montenegro and Black Walnut Bitters. Wines by the glass are limited but the bottle selection is good enough to have earned them a Wine Spectator award in 2024. They do a solid job with food. Check out the F'N 7th Burger with 6oz hanger & brisket blend, caramelized onion mayo and tomato jam. Comes with fries. Really tasty and pairs well with bourbon. Service is good. Visited Dirty Habit for happy hour on a summer-like day in DC, so my friend and I sat outside in the patio area. Very accessible from the Chinatown metro station, so happy hour is perfect for a quick work gathering or catchup with a friend. We ordered the calamari and had champagne for a birthday celebration. The portion size was really good for happy hour. Prices are also decent from 3pm - 7pm for happy hour as well. Service is always good which is why I always drop in for a quick late lunch or dinner. Came here for my best friend's birthday dinner the ambience was amazing. The inside is incredible with nice table arrangements lighting. The waiter was super friendly and he was very attentive. During our reservation, we noticed that it was restaurant week so we decided to stick with that menu to see what the restaurant offered as a first timer, upon looking at the menu, we were excited to try things out, but once the food came out shortly, things took a small turn. We were not completely satisfied with the flavors of the food. The salmon was cooked properly, but just wasn't a memorable dish along with the Mayan chicken that I ordered was a big mistake. The chicken was so tough I immediately asked my waiter just to box it up because I knew I was trashing it. He asked if I wanted to switch it out for anything but due to the other guest not liking their meal either I decided to not make it difficult and just box it up pay the tab and head out on the bright side, they did sing happy birthday and give my best friend a free dessert which turned out to be her favorite churros, but the best part of the restaurant week menu was the sorbet I do plan to visit again maybe for a quick lunch or happy hour to see how things are different read more

I was headed to Capital One Arena for concert, so I stopped by to grab dinner before the show. The server did a great job and she made sure I was in and out promptly. For my starter, I had the calamari. It was fried perfectly, seasoned with the DH spice blend, and served with a side of aïoli just like I like it. I prefer aïoli over marinara sauce any day for my calamari. The pop of color from the micro greens garnish was a nice touch. For my entrée, I had the pan seared scallops. It was four scallops in a beurre blanc sauce with a few veggies. The scallops were tender and the sauce was flavorful. If you're watching your figure, it's a great low-carb dish. However, I would've loved some rice (real or cauliflower), spaghetti squash, moe veggies, or more scallops. Lol. There was so much sauce and I didn't want to waste it. The ingredients weren't enough soak it up all up. I dipped some of the calamari rings into the sauce. I should've asked for some bread. read more

This was my second time visiting dirty habit and it was very different from my first experience. We ordered calamari, ricotta gnocchi, pan seared called and braised short ribs and the only thing we enjoyed was the ricotta gnocchi. Everything else was underwhelming. It honestly felt like the chef may have changed since my last visit because the scallops were cooked completely different from how I remembered. The service was also very slow, it took awhile for us to be seated, we actually had to find someone to have us seated since nobody was by the front desk. It also took some time for the food and drinks to come out. While the overall ambiance is still nice, I don't think I'll be coming back for a third visit. read more

TL: DR - Okay spot to grab a drink/meal in the Gallery Place neighborhood; especially before an event at the Capital One Arena. Dirty Habit provides an interesting juxtaposition of an ultra-modern space next to the classic and historical Kimpton Hotel Monaco, to which it is attached. I recently met up with a bunch of folks at Dirty Habit before seeing Dave Chappelle at Capital One Arena. It was still warm enough to sit outside and there are various seating areas in the patio with firepits and other heat sources (see pic with reflective "fire place") to stay warm; at least until the sun sets. You have to walk through the main dining room to get to the back patio...and to me at least, the decor is just a bit too dark. In addition to the already dimmed lighting, the furniture and the color scheme of the furniture is also very muted. But it does create a vibe...that's for sure. There is a Happy Hour menu - https://dirtyhabitdc.com/menu - but the prices aren't necessarily on the "happy" side. Mixed drinks range between $11-$13 while beer and wine are $9. Not great, but on par of what you'd expect in DC. The on-tap IPA was fine. Had a nice hoppy after bite. We didn't get any of the food offerings, since nothing really appealed to us. But we enjoyed ourselves chatting and catching up before the show. The back patio does fill up between 5:30-8pm, and no surprise, that because you're surrounded by buildings in essentially a converted alley, noise levels are high as voices echo off concrete. Note: Restrooms are located inside the hotel and on the second floor, via the elevator. Would I make a return visit? Maybe, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Two HH beers with tax and tip amounted to slightly over $25. read more

We came to dirty habit on a whim for a Sunday brunch. We were able to snag a last minute reservation and were seated promptly on our arrival. There was music playing but not too loud too where you couldn't have a conversation. We started with the buttermilk biscuits and did the bottomless drinks. The punch on the bottomless menu is definitely STRONG, so I quickly changed to a mimosa. They also never let your glass go empty so you really get your money's worth. We had a private party in the back of the restaurant which was beautifully decorated for a 40th birthday. Our meal was family style so we got to try a little of everything - little gem Caesar salad, soft potato rolls, scallop tostadas, crispy calamari, steak frites, pan seared salmon with Brussels sprouts and Mac & cheese, ending with churros & assorted dipping sauces for dessert. Everything was pretty good but the scallop tostadas were not my favorite; it was ceviche style which made the scallop a little too mushy to enjoy. I had a great dinner at Dirty Habit. I've been here a few times for happy hour events or to sit at the lounge, but this was my first time coming for their dinner. It's on the pricey end, but I think it's worth it. The dinner menu isn't extensive, but it includes something for every diet type. I ordered the ricotta gnocchi, which was really good. We ordered truffle fries for the table as a starter, and we all ordered different drinks. They don't have an actual mocktail menu, but the bar will make a mocktail drink if you ask. I met my cousin for the Pre-theater menu which is $56 per person for a 3 course meal and it's a phenomenal deal. The restaurant is located inside the Kipton Monaco Hotel and it's a beautiful. Parking is street side via parking meter and they also offer valet and parking garages are near by. Julian was our waiter and he was really nice and attentive he told us some of his favorite recommendations and drink options that would pair with the dinner. Each course is really beautifully plated and plays on your senses, especially the parfait dessert. I am not a tomato person, but I really enjoyed the tomato salad, it was like and refreshing. Beets are my favorite, so of course I chose the beet salad which was delicious! The seabass melts in your mouth and since I'm a mushroom person the chicken dish was right up my alley because it parties with a mushroom sauce. The food and drinks were great, but the service was rather slow. I understand how tough and short-staffed the restaurant industry is right now and I give them all grace. They were also really busy and there was an event at the Capital One arena so it added to it. They did give us a heads up that the kitchen was backed up when we were seated, so I added a star back for that. We ordered the Gnocchi and the Scallops. Both were absolutely amazing, however the portion sizes are rather small, especially for the Scallop dish. The pillowy Gnocchi literally melts in your mouth and I loved that sauce that comes with the Scallops. The Bok Choy was a welcomed addition. I also ordered my go-to cocktail, and Old Fashioned, which were good. I'd go back again and hope that as time gets better, that the service speed improves. read more

All of the good R&B and Hip Hop throwbacks were in rotation, as well as some Reggae. The food was really good. I ordered the Chix Waffler, so basic, I know lol. One of my friends ordered the same thing but her chicken was not cooked all the way. Our server took care of it immediately, and they gave her a new meal. The service was good. The roasted salmon was pretty good, even though I had strangely some sensitivity to the salmon skin not sure why. The short rib was pretty good, but the actual amount of food was pretty small and disappointing. The desserts were pretty good, pretty standard. I chose the sorbet, and my friend chose the churros which I think were the better choice. I don't know where to start. From the surly hostess, the tasteless dishes, to the exorbitant prices that do not correlate to the quality of food, my experience in this restaurant was simply terrible. I was staying at the hotel where this restaurant is located and it would have been convenient except that the food was just horrible. Went for an early dinner and the dish that I picked was not available. Neither was my 2nd choice. They had run out No problem except the other choices were not great. But I was tired and wanted to eat so I stayed. Big mistake. Photos I have included show the food I ordered. I did not finish my meal; it was just so terrible. This was an over $100 meal for one person! I made the mistake of coming back a couple of days later for breakfast. For convenience sakes. Ordered a latte and toast. The toast was $9 . And the latte was the worst I've had in eons....oh, and small too. Do yourself a favor walk a couple of blocks down the street and eat at Cafe Riggs. We had breakfast here while staying in the comfortable and well-located hotel. The restaurant was the weakest part of our stay. Up sides: The room has plenty of style and character, with bright sunshine coming through the skylights. Our server was sweet and warm. The honey yogurt parfait, while small, was delicious, with varied granola and a creamy whole-milk flavor. The berries were ripe even in November. They gave me a pretty pot of hot water at no charge, which many restaurants won't do. The breakfast potatoes were crisp and well seasoned. Down sides: the banquette was quite dirty, with lots of crumbs in every crevice. Our server was so nice, but not knowledgeable and kept coming back to verify orders she'd forgotten (we were a small party and the room wasn't crowded). The omelet was small and watery -- it looked like two medium eggs. The prices are eye-watering given the inconsistent quality. We were forced to tip 20% for service that didn't justify it. Weirdest of all, the English muffin was floppy as Wonder bread, and rather than being toasted, it had been thrown on some kind of flame briefly, so it had some sear marks, but was neither warm nor crispy. I mean, let me make the toast if you can't manage it. If you're staying here, and not too price sensitive, this breakfast will do. But don't go any distance out of your way to come here. read more

I stopped in for lunch of a Friday afternoon. After I was greeted, I sat at the bar. Afternoon reviewing the menu, I ordered a Moscato and the cream of crab soup. The bartender was kind and very attentive. The wine was very good, refreshing and smooth. The real star of the show was the soup. There was crab meat in every bite plus the additional crab meat added to the center. This was well worth it for $17. Solo diner review: 4/8/25 I visited Dirty Habit on a "Tasting Tuesday" and ordered their four course menu though there were lots of options (regular dinner menu, Tasting Tuesday, Cherry Blossom specials, Wine List -- made for rigorous reading at the beginning of a meal). The Tasting Tuesday menu is SO reasonably priced at $58 with an optional wine pairing for another $32. What a value! This restaurant definitely has an inside-a-hotel vibe, but their decor is very interesting. It felt like ultra-glam gothic -- chic and cool -- and trying just a little too hard, but in the best way possible. Even for a Tuesday night the place was hopping. I had a 5pm reservation and when I left the bar and restaurant were crowded. The food was interesting and service was well paced. From the four course tasting menu I really enjoyed the roasted potato bread (with incredibly flavorful fresh chives as a garnish), and the Suya Short Rib with glazed beets and beef jus. The short rib was lusciously tender and the richness of the glazed beets really deepened the flavor. I was also impressed that I got a wine pairing with ALL FOUR courses! And the wines were nice; especially the wine with dessert that I didn't catch the name of. Some logistical advice: enter through the hotel lobby. I foolishly followed my GPS and entered around at Dirty Habit's official entrance and then had to walk through the restaurant to the host stand. Also, I hope you don't have to go to the bathroom during your meal. Bathrooms are located through the hotel lobby, up a floor (stairs or elevator), and down the hallway. They're really cool bathrooms, but your food will be cold by the time you make it there and back. Overall, an excellent meal for an excellent value. With its location right in the middle of Penn Quarter it's super convenient for events at the Arena or a night at the Theatre. read more

Dirty Habit is located inside the Kimpton Hotel . . . which, let me tell ya, is so beautiful and artsy, I might stay there the next time I'm in DC. Anyway . . . I was looking for a nearby place to have lunch. I arrived after the breakfast service ended and about 10 minutes before the lunch service commenced . . . but my server (I'm assuming the bartender), Juper, was great! He sat me immediately and served me a cocktail and allowed me to peruse the menu while waiting for service to start. The restaurant is sleek, modern, yet with a 20's-30's Hollywood glam vibe. Open, low-lit (but not too low) . . . tables not too crowded. Loved the modern music, which wasn't played too loud. I had the place to myself for a good hours before lunch traffic started to pick up. For lunch, the menu included salads (roasted vegetable, gem), dishes like roasted potato bread, mushroom toast. They have a burger and chicken sandwich. They have a steak and eggs (also on their breakfast service), which I strongly considered. Lamb meatballs, duck sugo, mussels, lobster rolls. I had the salmon burger (ground salmon) served with crushed avocado, remoulade, and tomato, as well as fries. The fries were crispy and seasoned. The sandwich itself had greater flavor and I enjoyed it. I also had a few cocktails, including the For Your Eyes Only (Rey campero espadin joven, dolin blanc, centum herbis, guava orgeat), The Grapes of Wrath (whistlepig bourbon, thomcord grapes, fresh pineapple, sorrel), and the Mandarin Cobbler (Ron zacapa rum, malmsey madeira, mandarin oleo saccharum, bay leaf)--which wasn't sweet like you'd think. All drinks were complex and tasted great. Dinner service has a lot of the same dishes, but adds in things like corn custard with crab, rockfish, branzino, pan roasted salmon, Adobo cauliflower, steak frites. Great place . . . I might try to go back for dinner service before heading home. Update: I did try dinner service before heading home. Steak frites was great. Moist, tender steak, well seasoned and prepared. I tried the corn chowder with crab for something novel, and it wasn't my thing, but I could appreciate it. My server (the receipt only says D) was excellent.
