Let's get into my Saturday date night at Mercy Me! I am usually the researcher so I have already looked at the menu, photos, and reviews before I go to a restaurant, but this was a "Get ready, let's go" night! Ambience: so Mercy Me is inside of Yours Truly Hotel. Not a typical restaurant set to the side, but hotel bar with tables and food. Hotel guests are coming and going through the front entrance. It must have been a wedding group staying there, so pretty lively/loud. Mixed dress again due to hotel setting. I would have been way more casual had I known. Food: Sorta Lomo Saltado 4/5. Perfect medium preparation, good portion and flavor. Green beans and onions on top. I would suggest still adding a carb (I'll come back to carbs) Lamb Chops: I could not even bring myself to taste my dates lamb chops because the portion was only a taste. So 1/5 stars. There were 2 small lamb chops for $34! No additional sides. This is barely appetizer! Rice and beans: 2/5 beans had not a single drop of seasoning. Plantains: 4/5 I guess. Fried plantains aren't hard. They did sprinkle toasted coconut on top but it's basically for decoration. It doesn't "stick" to the plantain. Drinks: Espresso Martini 2/5. Looks pretty, contains dairy so thought to be creamy. But it was basically coffee. I didn't get a hint of anything else Caipi Shiso 3.5/5. Their take on a caipirinha. However full of ice and very little beverage. Finished in like 2 sips. I started this review with 4 stars but as I'm recapping, I think I'm down to 3 . I'm interested in the Brazilian music nights on Wednesday and Thursday so would come more casual and open to trying another drink. Where do I begin? I was blown aeay by the food, service and ambience here. It had a very chill vibe on a late Sat night with a DJ spinning some tunes. Our server was phenomenal! I did ask her name but forgot and would have loved to give her a shout out. I think she was a South American woman in her 40s or 50s. She was so friendly and insisted on giving us free shots for my husbands birthday. We ordered cocktails, an eggplant dish and a pasta dish and the patatas Bravas (so good we went and got it again). I had came here for the Brazil and Morocco watch party, and spent some time before the match and during halftime getting drinks at the Mercy Me bar. Such a vibe with tasty drinks and beer! The staff were nice too to let us know when there were seats or if we needed to know anything. I have yet to try their food, but I'd like to try eventually. read more

I absolutely loved my experience dining at Mercy Me. The restaurant is very beautiful with vibrant decor, it's really spacious, and there's a large bar in the center of the restaurant. The front of the restaurant has large bay windows that are open, so you'll get fresh air throughout the restaurant. The food was magnifico! It's Latin food, tapas style! I came here to celebrate a milestone with a few friends and family, so we ordered quite a selection for the table. First, I ordered the Arándano mocktail, which was pretty good. The food we ordered included the crispy yuca, papas bravas, empanadas de mariscos, peruvian chicken, coconut plantains, and rice and beans. Every single thing was delicious. The papas bravas may have been my favorite, if I had to choose. It was topped with crispy onions, crema, and a shaved cheese. At the end, our waitress brought me a celebratory dessert, the mousse de maracujá. It had a passion fruit base, so it was a bit tart but still tasty. Top notch service and the restaurant is so cute with comfy seating. We got 1 bottle of Aqua Panna and it was $10 so beware of that but everything else was tasty and they give you fresh plates and silverware with each round. The staff was outstanding and went above and beyond for my food allergies! The manager came over to our table and walked through the menu with me, talking about changes I could make to almost any dish so I could have it. The ceviche was fresh and had great citrus flavor. The miso in the Umami Fashion was an excellent touch. Unique cocktail menu and great tapas spot. Food drinks: The food at this location was good. We didn't get the steaks and potatoes, and it wasn't something out of this world, but it was good. The drinks were also pretty decent. I truly didn't really like the fact that they were a bit small, and the serving (which I will insert pictures) seemed as if I had already drunk some, if that makes sense. I assume it's to fit the aesthetic that they do have, which is really nice, but I also just wish I got exactly what I wanted when it came to quantity. I can truly say that the food wasn't memorable, but the location definitely was. Location: This location is very nice, and I really like the aesthetic. It's low-light, and it's perfect for a date. It's definitely not casual. I would definitely dress more business casual or truly just dress up. This is a perfect location for a date or a special occasion. We stayed in the hotel that's connected to this restaurant, so I'm not sure how parking works within this location, as we stayed in the garage for the hotel and didn't really have to worry about that. Four of us ordered appetizers for the table. We had the crispy yuca, the empanadas, the ceviche and the NY strip anticuchos. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. Tremendous service, delicious food, and a lush ambience. The restaurant has South American cuisine that is rich in flavor. Each dish arrived fairly quick and was plated with excellence! The steak was tender and spiced well, the plantains were absolutely amazing (sweet, thick, and coated with a nice char)! The lamb came with a delicious red chili sauce, (although was bit less tender than the steak). The potatoes were seasoned well and topped with shredded cheese. The tres leches is moist and worth a try (although it is more of a rendition of tres leches). The expresso martini is absolutely delicious (perfect balance of sweet, froth, and flavor). I came here for a friend's birthday dinner and while it was a good experience, I don't think I'd necessarily come back. There were 9 of us and they had no trouble accomedating our size which was great. My friend knew some of the wait staff and managers, so they were very kind to bring us a complementary bottle of prosecco for the table. They also had a live DJ spinning which was great and gave the whole place a nice ambiance. The food was good, I got the chorizo bologenese which was delicious, but not worth it for the price imo. $32 for a modest portion of a good but not groundbreaking pasta feels like a bit of a stretch. Ditto with the caipi lychee, it was good, but also about 85% ice. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, everything was good but not great for what we paid. read more

Mercy me is inside a boutique hotel in DuPont circle. I love live music especially jazz and I heard great things about their live jazz music on Wednesdays. The weather was nice and the windows were open with a lovely breeze. The band playing was very good, I stayed for 2 hours and really enjoyed it. I would have loved to stay longer but unfortunately I had to leave due to table reservation time allotment (typically two hours). The service was pretty good and attentive. The 3 stars is for the food and drinks. This place isn't necessarily cheap and nothing on the menu really caught my eye so I asked the waiter for recommendations. I got the fugazetta and some drink I can't remember the name of it. It was okay, nothing special. The fugazetta had too much ricotta and the dough was about underbaked for me. I would come back here just for the live jazz on Wednesdays but the food and drinks need to be much improved, there was a lot left to desire and with a bar/restaurant in a hotel this nice, I expected better quality. read more

This was my favorite restaurant I have gone to in a long while. Although the dishes are in the pricey side, some of these bites were so amazing! The tuna tiradito had so much juice, flavor, and freshness in each bite and the strip steak was perfectly cooked and presented very nicely! However one of the more unique dishes I had was something we ordered last minute - the black truffle fugazzetta - hard to describe as the bread, bacon, and truffle are putting in hard work in each bite but you just have to try it! read more

Amazing experience (dare I say one of my top fives this year!)! We went on a Wednesday night and there was live jazz music and the vibes were 100%! The espresso martini and la Manzana drink were very balanced, top-notch, just the right amount of alcohol! We ordered four small platters and one main course and it was the perfect amount. Actually, we had some leftovers. The black truffle bread (fugazetta) is phenomenal. You have to order it. Do not miss it. I haven't had something like that anywhere else. My second favorite was the red snapper ceviche again perfect balance, and presentation. And of course, do not forget the Chaufa - definitely very shareable with chunks of crab, shrimp and a perfectly seasoned rice serve served with fennel salad! The menu is small, but mighty! Our server, Anton, was phenomenal. Everything he recommended was a hit both on the drinks side and on the food. I am glad he served us !! I cannot get over how great the ambience was with the music (that you can actually hear each other too), the lighting , the decor. I came twice on two nights of a meeting that I was doing nearby: it's a little pricey but quite good and enough food and great cocktails (fun menu with creative presentations). The vibe is fun with an open modern lounge feel, a happening place with interesting art. If you are staying at the hotel you get a reasonable discount too. South American inspired menu so there are some different ingredients and combinations different than the average American restaurant. read more

Restaurant Week: Arepas were absolutely delicious. They were not finger-food ready as the arepas broke easily in my hands. Chicken was great and it had amazing seasoning! I did feel like they could have added rice and beans to this plate to make this more filling. I still felt hungry after finishing this plate. I've had cheaper, better tasting chicken and sauces at other Peruvian places. The tres leches was disappointing too! Some bites were rather tasteless so it didn't soak up much of the flavors like a proper tres leches cake should. I went and still had two slices of pizza after this meal to feel full. read more

I'm staying at the Yours Truly hotel for a few weeks, so I'm definitely spending some time at Mercy Me! With my first trip, I started with the Melon Marg. Nice and light, not too sweet. Then out came the garden salad. This salad is incredibly refreshing. Full of great flavors and textures. Highly recommend. Not large enough to be a single meal but a wonderful starter or side. My main course was the Empanada de Mariscos (blue crab and shrimp). These were decent - the addition of the salsa verde was a nice touch. The place itself has a great look and vibe to it. The music was a little loud for my taste - it felt more like a company party than a place to get dinner. I just hate competing with music when talking with someone over dinner. That being said, the food was enough for me to warrant a second trip to try more of the menu! read more

My friends and I stopped by Mercy Me to check out El Chalet. Unfortunately, it was booked for an event but we were able to get a table in the bar/lounge area. The ambiance was great and staff were friendly. Food did take a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. The drinks were fantastic, some of the best in DC! The Baires Mule was a favorite. It contains kola nut which will give you a burst of energy! The topicalia spritz and maca verde were both good. We grab some small plates to share. The burger was a pretty good size, juicy and had good flavor. The fries were perfectly crispy. The beef tartare was good, the potato crisps went well with it and wish we had more! The emapanadas were my favorite! Crispy outside, short ribs filling was bursting with flavor and the chimichurri sauce was soooo delicious--this is a must try! The truffle provaleta wasn't warm enough and the cheese cooled quickly, causing it to get a little hard and the croquettes were just ok. Overall a great experience! We wanted to eat here a couple of times before posting a review. Both times we really enjoyed ourselves. The menu is pretty inventive. We have grown a little palette numb over the years so Mercy Me has been a nice surprise for us. I'm still thinking about a ceviche we had over the summer. One of the major standouts were the picanha beef tartare with lettuce wraps and potato chips. This is a fresh take on a classic and if you like a little spice and enjoy beef tartare, then this is a must get. Our other favorite was the gnocchi with octopus. The acidity of the tomatoes was a great complement to make this whole dish sing in harmony. Also, the Brazilian sausage was extremely flavorful and at least unique for us. Service was very good with all the essentials covered along with an extremely pleasant demeanor. In total we had five courses and dessert (a dairy free panna cotta) which was a great, light way to end the abundance of food we ate. This also included a glass of wine with each course. The total price including 24% tip for the excellent service was $348. If you are not huge eaters like us, you could definitely keep the price lower. However, for us, this was a bargain to have good service and such inventive culinary skills. Mercy Me is now part of our regular rotation. Two notes that might be of interest to other diners. .**(1) There is an automatic 22% surcharge/tip if that is a problem for you.** **(2) The restaurant is lively, especially as the evening progresses with either a DJ or live music. Needed a quick bite while visiting and this place looked cute. Grabbed a seat at the bar and the folks behind were quick to getting me the menu. Everyone working the bar was super friendly and helpful - definitely the highlight. I got the Peruvian chicken and it was pretty good. It came with a little salad and yuca fries too which were all good as well. The chicken itself wasn't too dry, the fries were crispy, and and salad tasted fresh. The vibes are cute. Beautiful open restaurant off the lobby of the Yours Truly Hotel. Food was good - the shareable tomahawk was especially cooked and presented well - but nothing that truly wowed me for the quite expensive price. It's a great place for a group, where there are plenty of large tables for 6-8 people, and we were able to get a reservation just a couple of days in advance. The DJ playing on Saturday night was also not as disruptive as the reminder texts before our dinner suggested - but then again, we were seated on the other side of the restaurant. Definitely a fan of a restaurant that serves something other than burgers and boring salads. Peruvian-inspired food is unexpected and yet very well executed. I enjoyed the lamb empanadas. It would be great if they marinated the lamb just a tad longer, but the flavor was great and the texture was better than I expected. PLEASE try a drink you're not used to!! And trust your server, they live for the recommendations. The space is a really laid back vibe with a classy touch, so plan to chill for a while and enjoy the night.
