I am a huge DC restaurant week fan as it truly provides an opportunity to experience different cuisines in the area. I haven't heard of Seven Reasons before but now was as good a time as any to check them out. To start, our hostess Ayana - fantastic and she took great care of us the whole evening! A few standouts: Hamachi tiradito - bananas!!! So good we ordered it twice Bread - could miss it but the Brazilian bread was interesting Snapper ceviche - 8/10 Cauliflower peru peri - 9/10 -I didnt know where this dish was going and as a cauliflower lover, I had to try it. Perfectly fried and sauces were so good. Yellow curry rockfish - 9.5/10. I love that they arent afraid to actually use curry! The tenderloin was so tender too!! And the taro cake very interesting, in a good way. A true stand out was the guava cheesecake - absolutely incredible and nothing like you'd think it would be. I love it when restaurants are super creative with food and the play on flavors were top tier during this meail. We also ordered a bottle of the Chilean sauvignon blanc, which paired perfectly with the food and stood on its own with the tenderloin. We entered and waited a bit at the stand for some help. We did have reservations and were sat. The service was good, our waiter did come around and check in on us. They also refilled our waters constantly! In terms of food: - we did partake in drinks: I had the passion over perfection and my gf had the pina colada. I will say her pina colada tasted more like pineapple juice than anything else. I enjoyed my drink though. - we were recommended by our waiter to get around 4-6 dishes depending on how hungry we were. We opted for 7R ceviche, cheese arepitas, Latin falafel, and seafood jalea. I will say everything tasted so freaking good (with the exception of the falafel because they were on the drier side) but those portion sizes i would expect a little more for pricing - I will also add a side note they were providing sampling of a pumpkin soup. Did j like it? No. Did i appreciate it the ability to say i tasted it and didn't have to pay for it? Yes - we also were greedy and went in for desserts: banana bomb and chocolate and Ron. The banana bomb SOOOOO good! The chocolate and ron was more on the forgettable side. Despite the portions, the food was so good I'd come back in a heartbeat. Seven Reasons is definitely trying to do a lot with a wildly eclectic menu. The inside is nice, MCM style furniture, odd stone feature in the middle, overall it is classy with lots of plants. Acoustics wise it was loud and was difficult to hear across the table. Wait service was a bit hit or miss, but the bussers were on their A game. Stand outs: The amuse bouche! Spicy, rich, creamy, bisque-like squash soup. Delicious. The roll your own croquettes (didn't need the table side torching, but I digress) were a delightful balance of crunchy, creamy, salt level... very good bite. Pina colada inspired flan for dessert was excellent. Just the right amount to share between 2. The scallops were cooked to perfection but we didn't love the rest of the dish. Gnocchi was pretty good, but the flavor profile felt out of whack. The cherry and the marinara felt like it almost worked but not quite. Ribs were okay. Atmosphere & Service: I'm really glad we chose to go to Seven Reasons. The interior is absolutely beautiful with lush florals and greenery surrounding the classic seating. As soon as we walked in, they kindly took our coats, which immediately elevated the experience. The service throughout brunch was attentive and accommodating, with our waiter making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. Food: We came for brunch and ordered a couple of standout dishes. I started with the Venezuelan Crab Dip, made with Venezuelan jumbo lump crab, Chihuahua cheese, and served with house baguettes. It was rich, flavorful, and perfect for sharing! I also ordered the Shakshuka with maitake-tomato ragu, two eggs, salsa criolla, and an arepa (without cheese and pork). The combination of flavors was bold and well-balanced and the arepa was a great addition for scooping up every bite. Overall, the food was flavorful, beautifully presented, and satisfying. I came to Seven Reasons to do the Bilt experience. Hands down, their white heaven dessert is probably the dessert I'll dream about after leaving the institution. However, I cannot uphold the quality of the other dishes the same way I can with the white heaven dessert. Although this place was modern and hand plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, the vibes seemed chaotic? The service was a miss for me... our waiter kept dismissing us and messed up our bill at the end. I will not coming back anytime soon, but I would recommend peeking inside whenever you have the chance. read more

Excellent experience. Service was outstanding, attentive and friendly. Very unique menu with Latin American dishes with a little Asian influence here or there. Raw apps were great, rice dishes absolutely delicious, especially the black rice. A couple of unique desserts to cap it off. read more

Hmm, where do I even begin??? My friends and I celebrated a birthday here and we heard about the great reviews on the service and honestly.. it was disappointing and the food was very subpar. My friends ordered the shakshouka and milanesa sandwich- both of which were good. I had ordered the short rib arepa and it was so disappointing. The meat was very salty and the arepa was very dense and dry. All the food came out at the same time except mine- I had to wave down 3 different people on 3 different occasions to check on my food. I was told "let me go check on it" every time and never got an update. My food came 20 minutes after everyone. No apology or anything. At this point, I think they forgot to make it or it wasn't even ordered initially. Also noticed a price mismatch when it was time to pay. I have date night with myself and I chose Seven Reasons. Really enjoyed this spot. I came on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. Service was great. Attentive. Helpful in suggestions and wine pairing. Conversation with the couple next to me was good, but also left me alone enough to enjoy my meal. Decor was nice and was in theme with cherry blossoms. They brought out an amuse-bouche of a butternut squash soup. Very good. I ordered oysters first. They were good and flavorful. My main dish was the scallops a la parmesana. Sooooooo delicious. Even burnt my tongue on a few, they come out hot! I'd go back just for those. Last but not least, the dessert. Guava cheesecake. One of the better desserts I've had in a while. We started with the avocado dip. It was good but an unusual presentation- it had an egg in it! Like a riff on avocado toast. Then I got the breakfast criollo platter and my friend got the birria tacos. He cleaned his plate! My dish was equally delicious and each item separate. I enjoyed the variety. I had a choice of how I wanted my egg. I requested poached but that wasn't allowed. Then I went with over easy but they came out sunny side up. A friend and I came here for their prix fixe lunch ($35 a person). Service was great-- efficient, friendly, and on top of things without being overbearing. I don't think I'd come back for the lunch, but I'd love to try their other dishes. The cauliflower soup they served as an amuse-bouche was delicious and comforting, kind of like baked potato soup. The ceviche was sour and delicious with the snapper. The plating was fun and the foam felt like uncovering a treasure. I chose the chicken as the main. It was firm and good, but not great. It was just a plain dish that wasn't particularly interesting. It had enough juice to it, but it still made me think it was dry, strange as it is to say. There weren't enough pickles, there wasn't enough rice, and the sauce was just fine. I tried a bite of my friend's smashburger and it was the same vibe as the chicken-- decent, but not particularly interesting despite how it was described. (On the other hand, I learned that pineapple & prune mayo is a flavor that works.) The mercedes cake wasn't what I expected and kind of tasted like how people put veggies in chocolate cakes to trick you into eating veggies. It felt nutritionally dense and not particularly chocolate-y. The quesillo/flan was good. 5% service fee. How can I even start to put this together... it's rated 4.7 on Google and if I could give 0 stars, I would. I don't really write reviews--not even on OpenTable, TripAdvisor, or Yelp--but this one deserved it. My partner and I both work in the industry. I'm a hostess myself at a hotel in DC. I used to work in a Michelin-star restaurant in San Francisco and have been to a few nicer restaurants around the area--some more expensive than Seven Reasons, some a little cheaper. My partner and I always go out when there is a special celebration, and I always put it in my reservation. It's either a birthday or anniversary, and I always feel like they make it extra special--whether it's a candle for a birthday or a personal note. Today is my partner's early 40th birthday celebration. I was trying to pick which restaurant to go to--Nobu, minibar, nakazawa, cranes or Seven Reasons. I picked Seven Reasons because Ive never been and I walked by before, and it looked nice--the ambiance, good reviews--but I regret coming to this place. This is the first restaurant that disappointed me to the highest fucking level. Paying $398 including tip just to have very cold service? Other tables celebrating birthdays got a candle, and we didn't? It's the little things that make someone feel special. What's the point of the hostess asking who we are celebrating if, in the end, there's no candle? And yes--it's the candle. It's the little things that make someone feel special on their special day. I don't care about free stuff, but it's common sense. Do you really have to ask in front of the person being celebrated, "Can you bring a candle because it's his birthday?" wtf? This is hospitality? It shouldn't take that much. That's what makes the difference, and that's what you failed at--this is why I'm so disappointed. I was expecting that because the other table celebrating a birthday received a candle and dessert, we would too. I ordered dessert and dessert drinks--and not even a candle? I even suggested this place to guests at our hotel because when I passed by, it seemed so nice, chic, and cozy. But omg, if you're going to pay $400 for a meal, you might as well go somewhere much nicer where you will feel warmth and cared for. I've been to places like Nakazawa and Cranes--around the same price--and they made everything feel special. Some of them don't even have the best food, but the warmth they offer you is something. I used to be a server, and little things make people happy. It's not just about the candle--it's that they are celebrating something that meant something in their lives. A lot of servers just care about money and tips, and a lot of workers are just there to make something but don't care about the job. It's common sense--when you put a note in the reservation for a birthday, anniversary, or any celebration, you want to make sure that guest is at least having something a little special. Your restaurant says Michelin 2025? Well, that doesn't deserve it and should not be posted outside your restaurant. And I guess you lost it? Well, it's pretty obvious why. This place is disappointing, and I wish I could take back this day and just choose another restaurant. This is not a place to celebrate something intimate--or even a birthday, I guess. At least not for us. I feel so irritated that I tipped and paid the service fee. But you know what? I would also feel irritated not to tip because I work in the industry. If you are celebrating something special and want that person to feel special, then go somewhere else. If you can pay $400 or a little more, go somewhere else. This place is just not it. Read reviews--and make sure you read the bad ones too. I will never ever suggest this place again and will make sure to tell others about this experience so they won't have to go through this if they are celebrating something. Everything is energy. Overall, I had a lovely time at seven reasons. Things started off annoying when the restaurant didn't seem to have my reservation (although I had a confirmation) so they sat me at the bar area against a plant wall that kept poking me in the back and covering my head. But, once I pushed the table up a bit, things were better. First off, the drinks are excellent. I had two are both were incredibly delicious. The food was also quite good (with a few misses). We ordered the salmon and tuna mosaico which was delicious (albeit a very small portion of about three quarter sized pieces of fish). We also got the seafood Jalea (excellent), the duck chaufa (so good, so much crunch!), the mashed potatoes (super bland). For dessert, unfortunately my desert was supposed to come with cotton candy, but they just didn't put it on the plate. This is quite sad because, who doesn't love cotton candy?!?! But. I'd still return. Particularly for a happy hour scenario with drinks and snacks. I think that is where this place shines. read more

We took my in-laws to Seven Reasons, and although my husband and I hadn't been in a while, we were reminded why we've always loved it. The food and service are consistently excellent, and the Latin flavors are truly outstanding. While the menu has changed and a few of our favorite dishes were no longer available, we quickly fell in love with several new ones. I'm not usually a dessert person, but their desserts are exceptional. Our server was wonderful very knowledgeable about the menu and offered great cocktail recommendations, which were also excellent. My daughter had a birthday brunch here with about 20 people. The food and service were excellent. They offered Empanadas, Venezuelan Crab Dip, and Avocado Dip as appetizers. The Crab Dip was phenomenal because it had a good flavor and huge pieces of crab. There were three different types of Empanadas - Bean, Cheese, and Chicken. I like the Cheese Empanada the best. For my entrée, I had the Patacon Kraken which was a Lobster Tail served over Strawberry Coleslaw on top of an Avocado Spread on smashed Fried Green Plantains. I ordered this because I had never heard of it before and thoroughly enjoyed it. They also offered Chicken with Waffles, Taco de Birria, Arepa Sirena (an Arepa with Calamari, Scallops, Shrimp, Octopus, Avocado, Tomato), and Cherry Blossom Burger (Pork Patty Burger with Sriracha May, Napa Cabbage SaladncBlack Sesame, Pickle Daikon and Trout Roe). The Chicken and Waffles was the most ordered dish and everyone said that they enjoyed it. Throughout our time, the sparkling wine was flowing. There were small carafes of pineapple, orange, and passionfruit juice to make mimosas. The dessert options were Brazo Gitan (A vanilla crème sponge cake roll with raspberry Sakura gelee topped with Matcha Ice Cream), and a Smores Tarte. I've always loved coming here for dinner and drinks back when the location was on 14th Street, so I decided to check out their brunch with friends over Memorial Day weekend at the new location. . Brunch ends at 2 PM, and our reservation was at 1:15 but luckily, timing wasn't an issue. Service was a bit slow, and one of my friends had to remind our waiter a couple of times about items that were taking a while to come out. It seemed like our server was covering a large section, so we gave them some grace as it was a busy Saturday. And we weren't in a rush. We went for the bottomless Blanc de Blanc bubbly for mimosas which was light, refreshing, and best of all, no headache afterward! As for food, we shared a spread: crab dip, fries, eggs, bacon, waffles, a cheeseburger, short rib arepas, prawns and chicken & waffles. Everything was delicious, and the flavors hit the spot. I can give you seven reasons why you should go to another restaurant then stop by this one. I rode the hype wave and stopped by for an a la carte experience on a Friday night at 6:15pm. We were greeted with confusion, I booked a regular table but because there were only 2 people in the entire restaurant (on a Friday at 6:15pm people...red flag), we were asked to sit in the bar / happy hour area....ok? Then we were handed about 5 different menus to order from. A coursed dinner, a la carte, specials, happy hour...it was overwhelming. We put in some wine orders and a few small plates - ceviche (ok), shishito peppers (undercooked) gnocchi (husband said it was watery) and a very bland green salad. I've heard so many rave reviews about 7 Reasons, for years now. I finally decided to go for DC Winter Restaurant Week as a solo date. The night seemed busy, which is understandable because it's RW. The ambiance is very dark with loud music. It could be a Friday night thing. So, it's not intimate but gives that vibe. I was not a fan of the service nor the food. My waiter was either too intense or overwhelmed. It took forever for me to get the wine menu after given the wrong type of menu (20 minutes). He also took forever to check on me to see if I had any issues, in which I found to be off putting. I was rarely checked on, which caused me to be at the restaurant much longer than needed. I dont know if it was because I was there solo, but that is hardly an excuse. On to the food: Perhaps I came in on a bad night, but my beef tartare breading was so tough, I was scared that I was going to break the plate trying to cut through the breading part of it (video posted). After waiting a long time yet again, I told the waiter it wasn't edible. He replaced it with a new one, with the same exact toughness. The manager had to come out & redo the beef tartare & he comped me a glass of Malbec, in which I greatly appreciated. The Lamb Barbacoa was pretty good but not remarkable to me to want more. The guava cheesecake was very interesting. It felt like ice cream with grahams crackers. It was delicious & flavorful. The manager was kind enough to take 25% off my order after the experience I had. I spent about 3 hours there. I do not think it was worth $65 for Restaurant Week & I will likely not come here for a while until improvements are made with time management, staffing, & food preparation. I wish I could give it a higher rating but the food was not good enough for the price point. We got the octopus and the whole fish and neither dish really wowed us. The fish came with a bed of salad but it was just cilantro with some dressing. Needless to say if you love cilantro it might be a good side to your fish but a bit strange of a pairing in my mind. The atmosphere is also a bit on the formal side and there were a lot of people having business dinners. Service was professional but didn't really feel welcoming. We tried the Smoky Paradise, Seven Reasons Old Fashion and Shared Roots for cocktails. For food got the crab dip. It was too creamy and covered with a stiff piece of hardened melted cheese. Also got the tequenos. Loved the texture. Wasn't a fan of the jam. The Lamb Lo Mein was spicy and very tasty. Service was a tinge slow, but nothing crazy. Loved the vibe. The space is nice though not over the top, allowing for a date night or corporate dinner (of which we saw many). The service is professional and attentive, consistently making sure we had what we needed in front of us. Everyone was very honest and willing to speak to what they had tried and not tried on the menu. We liked everyone there! The food was good but a little listless. The octopus was truly stellar, and very likely my favorite thing on the menu, but much bigger than expected! Sublime...... We have been fans of Chef Enrique Lombardo ever since our first experience at Seven Reasons in 2019. Tonight was our first experience in the new(er) location in City Center. Everything is as wonderful as before, if not more so. The venue is lovely. Acoustics are quite favorable and conversations are not a struggle. Cocktails are visually appealing, with the added drama of aromatic rosemary, beautifully crafted cubes, foams and flavors. From the moment a dish finds it way to the table, the colorful, creative presentation piques the taste buds. The flavors do not disappoint! Don't be afraid to try something that may sound "unusual" to you, trust me, they know what they are doing and you will be delighted, again and again. Between the three of us we shared 8 dishes (mind you this is a tapas concept, so the dishes - unless you specifically order a "large plate" of which there are several in one section of the menu - are meant to be smaller and shared). Upon reflection, we could not name one dish that we would not order again and my DH (who thinks life is one big competition) was unable to select a "winner" - they were all just sooooo good. Of course, that being said, we had to go for dessert - and again, the dramatic, beautiful presentation (oh the cotton candy made at the table!) and flavors - each dish unique, special in its own right and delicious.... I had brunch at Seven Reasons last Saturday, and I enjoyed myself. The restaurant is beautiful, and the service was great. Despite it being a solo meal, I was able to try quite a bit from the menu. I started with a Spring Serenade (tequila, strawberry, lime, and thyme), which was a light, bright brunch cocktail. Then I had their Milanesa (breaded organic pork loin, aji amarillo gribiche sauce, and fresh green salad). I found the pork just a touch dry, but the breading was great. The sauce was very good, too; I just wish it had been under the Milanesa rather than under the salad. The salad was good - simple, bright - but ended up feeling overdressed since it was sitting on top of the gribiche meant for the Milanesa. Then I moved on to a Tangeroni Sour (gin, Campari, rose vermouth, tangerine, lemon, and egg white), which I liked as well. I had to finish with a bit of dessert. They were out of their guava ice cream (devastating), but I really enjoyed the kiwi sorbet with my sour. This Latin fusion has a really fun menu - full of things I don't eat very often (especially for brunch) - so I'd be happy to come back. A very good option for brunch. read more

My husband and I ordered a Salmon and Tuna Mosaico and a duck dish for starters and a 25-day aged rib eye cooked medium with shishito peppers and chimichurri sauce. They gave us a complimentary amuse-bouche in a little glass and it was oh so delicious. Everything we ordered was so tasty and sumptuous. The steak was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent. Seven Reasons is a very modern and hipster Latin American fusion style restaurant. The decor inside is fun and exciting, and the overall vibe is energetic. The food is mixed. Portion sizes are small, as it is tapas style, but then the feasts are large. The ceviche was decent, but was not as acidic as I expected. The egg foam was good though. Langostinos were decent, pretty sizable shrimps. Lamb ribs were dry and not great. Scallops were decent and the sweet potato fried pieces were good and the sauce as well. The duck dilemma was by far the most interesting dish, as it had a fried layered potato, an onion chutney sauce, and some slices of duck. It was a bit overcooked the duck though, but overall very good dish. Octopus I thought the sauce balance was too saucy, and the octopus could have been cut up in a more edible way. A giant slab of octopus was a bit harder to work through. Where seven reasons shines is its innovations and creativity on new cooking. We came here on election night before going to a watch party. The place was empty (I think folks were worried about coming into the city), which was great as we had the place all to ourselves. The menu is eclectic but mostly south American dishes. I had the steak which I asked for medium but came out more medium rare. The service was great since we were the only ones in the place. I enjoyed the food, but would not rate it as 3-Michelin star level. I would come back with friends and maybe even for a date night with my wife. Portions were a bit small and the food was good but not over the top amazing as I would expect for place with high prices. The ambiance and the cocktails were amazing! The main dining area opens up to the outdoors creating a lovely ambiance, especially on nice weather days. At a place like this, you'll want to explore everything on the menu, and our server was great at guiding us through the many options. They were attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed and checking in to make sure we were satisfied with our meals and drinks. We couldn't have asked for better service. Food The food was outstanding. Some highlights included the green rice and artichoke, the asado negro (a Venezuelan-style braised short rib served with mashed potatoes, sweet plantains, and a cilantro salad), and the cavatelli and lobster. Each dish offered a unique flavor profile, contributing to a delightful overall tasting experience. For dessert, the melting cloud and guava cheesecake were the perfect sweet finishes to our meal. The food was orgasmic. Chefs that cook with love are my people! OMGawd it was a visual feast for the eyes. The short ribs melted in my mouth.
