DRINKS: We came specifically for cocktails and a little post-show wind-down, and Grazie Mille definitely delivered. It's the kind of place where you can grab a drink and relax earlier in the evening, but the energy picks up as the night goes on. VIBE & ATMOSPHERE: This is where Grazie Mille really shines! Tucked away in a hidden alley behind Grazie Nonna, it has this dark, moody vinyl lounge feel that makes it feel like you've stumbled upon a little hidden gem in downtown DC. We especially loved the outdoor patio, where the DJ sets up on Saturday nights. It is SO cool and chic! The combination of the outdoor space, music, and late-night energy makes it perfect when you're not ready for the night to end but don't necessarily want to go to a full-blown club. Grazie Mille transitions from an Italian-American dinner spot earlier in the evening into more of a high-energy late-night lounge and party vibe, which I love. You can really make it whatever kind of night you're looking for. FUN FACT: Grazie Mille is from the same restaurateur behind Grazie Grazie at The Wharf and neighboring Grazie Nonna. Clearly there's a gratitude theme happening with the names, and I'm here for it! SERVICE & PRICE: The service was probably the biggest downside of the night. I stood at the bar for about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. At one point, a guy who clearly knew one of the bartenders walked up, cut in front of me, and yelled out his order. Instead of letting him know I had been waiting, the bartender actually stopped and listened to his order while completely ignoring the fact that I'd been standing there. That definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. And speaking of things that are hard to swallow...the prices! $26 for a skinny margarita is ridiculous. I expect to pay a premium for cocktails in downtown DC, especially at a trendy lounge, but $26 for a margarita is excessive. OVERALL: Grazie Mille was exactly what we needed after DC Improv: good drinks, great music, a chic atmosphere, and a really fun crowd. Whether you're looking for a nightcap, date-night drinks, or somewhere to keep the night going on a Saturday, this is definitely one to add to the list. This place is the bar side extension of the restaurant, Grazie Nonna. We went here for their happy hour after work. We were seated right away in the bar area outdoors. Someone came to take our orders but we weren't served food or drinks until almost 30 mins after. Our food came before any of the drinks did and I cancelled my drink by then since I had already filled up on food. The food was great though. We ordered the cacio e Pepe, chicken cutlets, and mozzarella sticks. If we come back, we'll order the cacio e Pepe and the chicken but not the mozzarella sticks since they had candied garlic which I'm not a huge fan of. The cacio e Pepe was very creamy and a decent portion to fill up on. The chicken sandwich was spicy and came on focaccia on a bed of lettuce with spicy dressing. I don't remember our server's name but she had dark hair and glasses and was super sweet. She took great care of us and did her best to anticipate our needs. What we ordered: Caesar salad, chicken parmigiana, arancini, garlic bread, calamari, tuna tartare, pink vespa cocktail Caesar Salad: pass - I'm used to really good Caesars at Italian spots. This was a little bland. Chicken parmigiana: very good. And the portion was huge Garlic bread: some of the best garlic bread I've had. Worth every penny. Covered in perfectly toasted/melted cheese Calamari: very good and fresh tasting. Good size portion, too. Tuna tartare: pass. Short version: *Tables are too small for 4 courses *Restaurant was overbooked and didn't let us know *The food was not worth the price and several dishes were sold out *Only option was pre fixe for V-Day I had a 9:30 res, and didn't get seated until 9:50. Thankfully, management gave us free prosecco (after I asked). We were locked into a pre fixe menu, which was not mentioned beforehand. They were also out of several items less than 2 hours into the night. Our waiter should've let us know before we ordered that the menu would be limited. The Cesar salad and veal were good, but the pizza was very average. Not worth $60 per person. There was also a hefty amount of butter and salt in almost every dish we tasted. An hour and a half into being seated, we were just getting our second main dish. I want to emphasize that the waiters and host were so accommodating, but extremely overworked. I came for happy hour and it made me excited to try dinner here at some point. They have a 2 hour HH from 4-6 but it only applies to certain seats in the bar area (high tops, bar seats), but seating is quite limited. Unless you arrive before 4:30/4:45 you'll have a hard time getting a seat for happy hour. They did have an outdoor area where you can get happy hour but you have to order at the bar and wait in line which made the restaurant feel a little crowded honestly. They should just expand their HH seating to avoid the crowds and blocked walkways near the bar area. I've been telling one of my closest friends about this place for the past 6 months and we finally made our way over together for one of my birthday outings. It was a pretty busy night but there wasn't much of a delay when it came to service which was surprising. Ejaz helped us get seated and made our drinks. He was so helpful and nice, I had to get his name! My friend and I mainly came for drinks but we did have a few small bites. One day we'll try the real food on the menu but we had the Frito Misto and the Tuna Tartare. Both were good but I don't think I've ever had tuna tartare that good before!! Wonderful little bar with a giant patio and cozy, gorgeously decorated space. I've visited Grazie Mille a few times, and I've been super impressed each and every time by not only the service and quality of drinks, but also by my own poor navigational skills. The bar is located behind Grazie Nonna, so it can be a little hard to find since you need to either go through the restaurant or get out of the commercial plaza that both establishments are tucked into and enter from the main street, but it's a lovely spot once you finally get your Google Maps to give you the right directions. The outdoor space is massive and can easily hold upwards of a hundred people between the outdoor bar, smattering of small cocktail tables, and plethora of couches and cozy outdoor chairs. It's demarcated with string lights and tall planters, and the slightly hard-to-find entrance means it's a bit insulated from the chaos of downtown DC. The inside of Grazie Mille, though, is even better. I love the ambient lighting and cozy, plush couches; it has the same energy as Grazie Nonna (after all, they are owned by the same people and connected in the middle), but somehow feels like Grazie Nonna's cool older sister. They have a pretty small food menu, with mostly finger / bar foods, as well as a large selection of steaks for whatever reason. I have yet to try a steak, but my friends and I did split their bruschetta, fried artichokes, and fries, all of which were fantastic. The bruschetta was super refreshing and the grilled bread was fantastic, and you can never go wrong with anything hot and fried. Their drink menu is triple the length of their food menu, but it's fantastic. All of their wine is sourced from either Italy or California, and you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. But I've gotta say, the service left a lot to be desired, and that was mostly because of one of the bartenders, Bianca. Now, the guy working there--didn't catch his name, but he had a beard and slicked-back black hair--was super polite from the get-go. He made us feel welcome and got our drinks going right away. But Bianca's attitude was totally different. It felt like she just didn't want to serve us, and honestly, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was because we were Black. She was slow to even acknowledge us, barely checked in on what we needed, and the contrast was obvious when a white couple showed up. She got them water and took care of them right away, while a Black guy who came in after them had to wait ages before she even offered him a menu. And when I asked about a pizza we wanted--the Green Goddess pizza--she acted like she didn't even know the menu and had to check, which just felt unprofessional since we've been there before and that pizza's always on the menu. I was enjoying what began as a genuinely lovely evening with friends -- dim lighting, thoughtful shareable plates, excellent cocktails. The kind of place that clearly aspires to be a serious dining establishment. And for a while, it succeeded. Then the dinner theatre began. At the booth beside us, a couple had brought a small dog into the restaurant. Not a service animal. Not discreetly tucked beneath the table. The dog was fully installed in the booth, as if it had a reservation and a vested interest in the wine list. Naturally, the situation escalated when the woman began suspending slices of beef carpaccio from her own fork above the dog, dangling it like a culinary piñata while encouraging the animal to perform small acrobatic feats for its dinner. Meanwhile, her partner documented the spectacle on video, flash on, of course, as though this were a charming dinner-time vignette rather than a baffling breach of basic restaurant etiquette. Let me reiterate. Suspended beef from the same utensil she was using. Hand-to-mouth-to-dog in a seamless rotation that can only be described as... ambitious. I found myself briefly wondering on which planet this behavior is considered socially acceptable, because it certainly isn't this one. What made the spectacle even more bewildering was that the staff clearly observed the entire scene and chose to do absolutely nothing. No intervention, no polite correction, no acknowledgment that several health codes were likely being violated in real time. If the restaurant has decided to pioneer a new culinary concept -- farm-to-table-to-dog, shared utensils included -- then I suppose congratulations are in order for the boldness of the experiment. We made a reservation the night before and arrived 15 minutes early. The hostess seated us immediately. From water to dishes, the service here is top notch. We each got two cocktails. My favorite was the Palermitano and my husband liked the sorrono sour. We split the frisée salad which had an acidic vinaigrette which was evened out by the poached pear and creamy cheese-it was a great combination. We also got the focaccia with ricotta, truffled honey and black pepper. Delicious. The portion of ricotta was generous and the focaccia was crisp and chewy. We ended up needing a second piece to use up our ricotta (they charge $3 for extra focaccia). For our main we got the cannelloni, which was four long tubes of pasta filled with salami and green ricotta covered in a vodka sauce and cheese. It was delicious. This was our second time going here and we really loved the vibe with the music and the lights in the whole set up a little speakeasy typing behind the Italian restaurant. Now that I've been to Grazie at least 5x since March, I've got to admit it's one of my favorite newcomers to the DC restaurant and nightlife scene. It's the perfect place for catch up with a friend, date or group. Depending on the day of the week, you may have a slightly different experience but it's always a vibe. They book fantastic DJs that keep the energy fun and sexy, without it ever feeling like a club. There is plenty of space, both inside and on the patio so it's never too difficult to find the perfect nook to settle in. From my very first visit this past winter, we've only experienced the most professional, hospitable and accommodating staff - from servers, to bartenders to the awesome GM (shout out to Amjad) they really make an effort to ensure that you're taken care of. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY!! WORST Service ever!! -- Waited more than 20 minutes for service, and once we received service, didn't see/hear from the waiter until we LITERALLY flagged him down to close us out! FOOD - Mediocre at best, and certainly not worth the wait, nor does it make up for the horrible service. AMBIANCE - NOT AT ALL WHAT WAS ADVERTISED. Seriously lacking, for amateurs. read more

Service was great and the decor is wonderful, but the spacing between tables is so narrow. The music was also a tad too loud for my friend and I to hear one another. However the short rib rotolo with the spicy red sauce was excellent! read more

Had three different servers, a messed up order, it's almost like they kept forgetting that we were there. If it wasn't for the DJ, we would've left after the first 20 minutes we were there and didn't get greeted. It also took us maybe 15 minutes to get our card back from the staff while we finished paying. Some kind of WiFi issue with the scanners. When it finally finished going through, no apology was given. If you're reading this, you're thinking about going to Grazie Mille. Unless something changes, don't do it. My party went out of desperation; those of us who were coordinating had our doubts, but we pushed through them thanks to the smattering of positive reviews mixed in with the bad ones. Shortly after we got there, all of the stuff in the bad reviews was front and center for us: terrible service, overpriced food, payment tools that barely worked and forced me to give a much more generous tip than the waiter deserved, overly-eager busboys trying to clear plates that we were still eating from. The food wasn't bad, but overall it was a bad experience. Hopefully someone is having a good experience there, but based on the recent reviews, I doubt it. Sad to be one more in the chorus of negativity. read more
