    Moldy tomato
    Dr. Justin E.

Came here for a business lunch. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Waitress was great--told me ahead of time the avocado wasn't going to be ripe. Ok bummer. But didn't expect the moldy tomato on the sandwich. Sent it back--they tried again and I think reheated the same chicken breast. Couldn't even cut it with a knife and fork. Huge waste of time and money. No thanks.

Service is fantastic! Ambiance is a sporty vibe, fun-filled, good for groups. Food is okay. For $34 All-You-Can-Eat Brunch and the opportunity to sample EVERYTHING, yes, you read that right, EVERYTHING, on the menu, within 2-hours, is a steal and downright criminal...but you won't be arrested, just FULL! For an additional $25, you can have All-You-Can-Eat Drinks. You can choose from Bloody Mary's, Strawberry Lemonade Margaritas, Peach Bellinis, Old Fashions, again, robbery. They keep the food and drinks coming. We sampled everything from the Pesto Chicken Pizza. Small sized vs personal. Fried Chicken Wings come with either Old Bay, Mambo Sauce or Buffalo. Can't go wrong with either. You get about 4 in the sample. Catfish is fried and seasoned to perfection. Comes with a side of bland and our initial serving was cold grits, as if they were pre-plated. The portion is about 2 full tablespoons, in a miniature 2.5 oz. stainless steel sauce round. Steak and eggs with potatoes is a slivered serving of steak, cooked to your doneness but unseasonably and tough. Eggs scrambled with Cheddar. Potatoes were small round home fries. 3, 6, 9 Burgers are Beef Sliders topped with a mound of shoestring Onion Rings. You can choose between a leg or breast for their Chicken & Waffle. The Waffle's, two (2) pieces of one (1) half (2 quarter pieces.) There's SO MUCH to choose from. We didn't even get to the Pancakes and French Toast offerings. Again, you have two (2) hours to Eat ALL You Can. In, the words of my Beloved grandmother, "Don't let your eyes become bigger than your stomach." Good for groups and those who are budget-conscious, who want to maximize their entire experience.

We came here for a group lunch. Matchbox has lots of seating and is good for large groups. They had large tv screens showing the latest sports news. The atmosphere was lively during a weekday lunch. They also had WiFi available. They have a $15 lunch special where you can get a small personal pizza and a cup of soup or side salad. I ordered the grilled chicken and avocado sandwich ($19) which comes with a side of fries and a pickle spear. It was just okay. They serve shoestring fries - just like McDonalds, but not as golden and not as crispy. The sandwich had good structure and was filling, but the chicken was bland and dry. I could've used some more sauce. I think I'm used to Nando's chicken which is moister and full of saucy flavor. Other people at the table ordered the fish and chips ($24) which looked good - it came with two large, meaty pieces of cod and the same shoestring fries. Also on the menu - Matchbox now serves sushi! Service was sufficient but a little absentminded, particularly for drinks. Some people never got their water (I think she forgot) and drinks were never refilled - cups were empty. We were checked on a couple of times, but drink service was often overlooked. Food trickled out for our group. It came in about three waves. It was a reasonable wait (nothing offensively long), but it's always nice when the food comes out at the same time, or when some verbal acknowledgement is given to say that everyone's food would be out shortly. I would say food and service were average overall.

The atmosphere at Matchbox is very causal and great for families who want fantastic food or for wanting to grab some drinks and appetizers with friends. Ordered the BBQ Jerk pizza. I ate the whole pie and it was seasoned well and had a kick to the pizza. I also ordered a Cesar Side salad and for being just a salad the croutons were made daily from bread. The lettuce was very fresh and moth withered at all and was the perfect amount of Cesar dressing. I also ordered the watermelon patio pounder. It was a light cocktail but after a few you may feel it. Food and service was excellent. Happy Hour specials are worth giving a try. Ended with an old fashion that is served with little smoke from a small torch that adds a heavy smoky flavor which I have never seen at table side.

I've been a fan of Matchbox for many years. It has one of the best happy hour offerings in the DMV.

Matchbox is undefeated to me! I've had so many occasions here for their brunch because it's just worth it! This time I came in for their lunch special and met my cousin to catch up. Parking for me was pretty easy as I found street parking right in front of the restaurant, my cousin parked in the garage. This matchbox is pretty big and it was decorated really nice. We were seated immediately for lunch and our server assisted us with the lunch options. I chose the mushroom pizza and soup. And my cousin had apple pear and soup of the day. For the $14.99 price it was worth it we had pizza left to take home. Pizza * Margherita * Pepperoni & Hot Honey * Fig & Prosciutto * Truffle + Wild Mushroom * Chicken Pesto Salad * Simple Salad * Caesar Salad * Apple Pear Salad Soup * Cream of Crab Soup * Soup of the Day

Was not what I expected yes it's a 10 inch pizza, but there was very little toppings and almost no sauce and Pizza arrived cold.

This place was ok. Food was decent but service is dreadfully slow. Had an early dinner before long drive home and restaurant was dead so there was no reason for the slowest table service I've ever received in my life. Go elsewhere if you can.

    Ribeye is good! $38

Had a pretty good meal at MatchBox, which serves up a lot of traditional American flare. Looks to be part of a large restaurant group for the area. Ordered the ribeye that came with carrots, asparagus and mashed potatoes $38. The steak was great. The service was a bit slow in a half empty restaurant, but that wouldn't keep me from stopping in again,

Had a good dinner here. I very much enjoyed the matchbox mule which was blackberry flavored. I also enjoyed the apple and pear salad which was light and refreshing! I wouldn't recommend the donuts however. While the raspberry sauce they came with was very good, the donuts themselves were off and felt like I could taste the oil they were fried in. Comfortable atmosphere and friendly service!

Very cool restaurant with live music - atmosphere was upbeat and lively for 2:30pm on a Saturday! We found 2 seats at the bar and got a quick lunch. They were very accommodating for the pizzas, allowing us to do half bbq jerk chicken and half honey honey/ pepperoni. The bbq chicken half was definitely our favorite. Salad was solid. Overall, this place can't lead you wrong!

While in DC, we decided to come here for brunch to take advantage of their AYCE brunch. We had reservations somewhere else but when we saw this location was close and remembered how much fun we had at the Silver Spring location, it was a no-brainer to definitely go here for brunch instead. It was pretty empty when we arrived and were seated almost immediately. The seats were dirty with crumbs and food so I waited for our server/hostess to come back so I could inform them but she took a minute so I found an employee who graciously came and cleaned the seat off. I sat down and almost started dancing in my seat from the anticipation and remembering how good the food was at the Silver Spring location. I also wanted to order one of everything LOL When our server finally came back we quickly learned that if you're doing unlimited both parties have to order it at the bar table and since my friend only wanted something small to eat, that wasn't going to work for us. Now, I was faced with the decision of trying to decide on one item only! Do you know how hard it is for me to decide before going to a restaurant, as I'm looking at their menu, on what I would like to eat? I just asked our server to put in my friend's order and come back for mine. As we sat there, we wondered if we should have sat at the bar instead so I could have ordered my unlimited and they could have only ordered what they wanted. It was interesting because we asked the server this and they replied the same rule would apply for the bar, which didn't make sense because if I'm sitting at the bar I'm responsible for my own bill. But ok . . . . I decided to go with the shrimp and grits and asked for the sauce on the side after I confirmed the sausage didn't contain pork. The grits came out fresh and seasoned with unoverbaring cheese. The shrimp are an afterthought though since they didn't have any seasoning at all. They are highly depending upon that cajun sauce to season the shrimp when it should be simmered in it or at least he's in with those same spices that the sauce contains. My stomach started turning on first bite which made me happy I didn't go with the unlimited because I don't know if I would have been able to eat more. It was a good playlist on and that was about it. Definitely only going to the Silver Spring location hence forward.

Food tastes good. Portion size was good for the burger and fries but the salad wasn't that substantial and a little small for an "entree" priced dish. Service started a little rough. Waiters were arguing amongst each other while a few tables waited to be seated. It took a while to get going but eventually they resolved their situation and service improved. The place is pretty large but not good for large groups. We were seated at table in the center of the restaurant and directly in front of the entrance. We made the best of it but probably should have just split ourselves into 2 booths.

Warm, tender, and comforting, with the richness of the butter and sweetness of the jam making them hard to stop eating. The blue crab deviled eggs were another wonderful start, creamy and rich with the delicate sweetness of the crab and just the right amount of savory flavor. The rib eye was exceptional, beautifully cooked, incredibly tender, and full of that deep, beefy, slightly smoky flavor you want from a great steak. I also loved the grilled okra. The grilling gave it a wonderful char and smokiness while still keeping the freshness of the vegetable. The prawns were another standout, tender and succulent with a slightly sweet, briny flavor that paired beautifully with the rest of the meal. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared, and every dish brought something different to the table. Between the beautiful al fresco dining, the incredible food, and Ellie's outstanding service, this was one of those dining experiences you remember long after the meal is over. I've been a few times over the years, and here are some notes from my most recent visit. I got a last minute reservation for 4 people at 7 PM on a Sunday, thanks to Resy notifications. They sat us in the back, which is not the best seating area, but sometimes you take what you can get. The back area is not the most spacious or prettiest area. I sampled a carafe of red wine, a cheese plate, the delicious (free) bread basket, the black bass grenobloise, and trout amandine. The carafe was perfectly fine; I'm not into wine enough to judge. The cheese plate ($6.5 per piece) was an okay size and came with some honey, jam, marcona almonds, and four slices of bread -- the bread was different from the white and cranberry-walnut in the main bread basket; this one was a smaller loaf, sliced thin, with some grains and apricot (?) in it. There are apparently 11 different cheeses to pick from, which the waiter had to recite to us. A small, printed cheese menu would be welcome here. We only heard about 5 of the cheeses before we decided to just pick some, because who wants to listen -- and remember -- the spiels about 11 different cheeses? The Black Bass Grenobloise ($34) had pomme puree, capers, and lemon. It was ok but I preferred the trout. The Trout Amandine ($36) had toasted almonds (lots), haricots verts, lemon brown butter. It was a classic rendition and it was great. Service was friendly, if a little slow.

The music venue is located below the Hamilton, a storied dining experience in the 600 block of 14th Street in D.C. Doors would open at 6:30 p.m. for a performance that would begin, right on time, at 8 p.m. I travel alone, and prefer not to join tables, opting instead to sit where single seats are available. The Hamilton - Live offers both: most of the seating is in groups of 4- or 6-seat benches where groups gather, and there are rows of single seats on a slight rise above the forward seating, offering a great view of the stage and the screens above the stage. I arrived around 7 p.m. Within minutes Marie greeted me with a menu and instructions to post a card on a holder at my place, signaling her to stop by to take my order. The menu was eclectic, with sushi, pizza, tacos, salads, wings, cheeseburger sliders, and nachos. There are robust vegetarian and gluten-free selections, and a fully licensed bar. I placed the card in the holder at my seat and Marie returned to take my order: sushi - shrimp tempura ($14), with a can of Nutrl Pineapple ($8) and a double G&T ($23.18). The crowd was gathering, and the attending wait staff were moving with speed, filling orders. My meal arrived in great shape about 15 minutes after I placed the order. Nicely executed sushi! Sound quality in the venue is great, and the restroom was clean and well lit. And as the catalogues of both the Dead and Steely Dan inspire dancing, the dance floor was filled right from the start. The band's vibe was low key and spontaneous, with lots of smiling on the dance floor. Total with a 22% tip was $79 (which included a white Russian nightcap). Reasonable fare for the DMV. Taxi, Uber, and Lyft are readily available from the venue.

The time I came in was when they were getting ready for dinner so I promptly sat at the bar. The menu for the Hamilton is extensive and I was presently surprised at all the options I had. I loved that the sushi was half off and vowed to come back to try it. For this visit, I had the pork chop and the crab fried rice. For an appetizer, I had the crab soup. Everything was delicious and came out promptly. The flavoring of the food was amazing and I had leftovers to take home. I will definitely be back!

Chicken and waffles meal was really delicious! The farmer's scramble was really nice as well, and it had a ton of vegetables. Really loved the vegetarian options! Breakfast is available all day. The strawberry milkshake was a nice portion and they even brought out the extra in another glass.

The second time I got the brunch pasta (with maple breakfast sausage- such a unique offering) and washed it down with a downright heavenly Cinnamon Toast Crunch-inspired boozy milkshake. Love the food so much that I insisted on bringing some out-of-town friends here for brunch on a Saturday. I noted the 75-minute dining limit in the OpenTable confirmation, which we had every intention of respecting, so I was a little miffed when the host came by very soon after we paid (about 45 minutes into the reservation) and asked if there was anything else they could do for us (the polite way of saying "get out, we need your table"). We definitely got the message, kind of laughed about it, and my friend got up to use the restroom before we left. On his way back he saw some of the staff pointing at our table and referring to us as the ones who refused to leave. I would understand if we'd sat there yapping for two hours, but 45 minutes was too soon to put on the pressure. Being made to feel unwelcome immediately after taking the last sip or bite cast a pall over an otherwise fantastic meal.

They are happy to recommend beer for your taste, and let you sample. It can be very busy and difficult to get a seat at the bar or get a table on a Friday or Saturday evening. We ordered food, and were expecting elevated bar food. The tater tots were a huge disappointment- they were very large squares , bland, and not crispy. The wings were okay. The cheeseburgers were the best- from the restaurant downstairs- mallard. Huge burger, done perfectly medium.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender. This place has earned its reputation as one of the best beer bars on the East Coast -- and then some. Highly recommend making a full night of it with both floors. You won't regret it. Feel free to adjust the tone or add any personal details from your actual visit!

We stopped in for Happy Hour. Or as they call it "Martini Happy Hour."…read moreWe enjoyed a dirty vodka martini and a dirty blue Martini - made with bleu cheese stuffed olives and a bleu cheese vermouth. Nicely priced at $12 each. Also served with the cocktails were a bottle of still and a bottle of sparkling water - very welcomed on our August 20,000 step sight-seeing tour. We ordered the $12 shrimp cocktail - 5 decent shrimp with two sauces. The $7 fries were insane! If we're in the area again on this trip, we'll definitely stop in again for Martini Happy Hour.

She was most likely on auto pilot and appeared embarrassed when she realized it. I politely smiled and said (confidently), table for 1. We solo diners need to be loud and proud! I digress... Before being seated I found the restroom. I found it odd that it was extremely dim. The main dining room was brighter than the restroom! I also saw the Photo Booth. Interesting addition. $5 for pictures. I was seated at a small round table with two chairs by the window. The restaurant was plenty busy, and I'm just glad I wasn't asked if I wanted to sit at the bar (I didn't). My server Noel brought two bottles of water: still and sparkling. I requested lemon slices, which he brought. And I proceeded to finish the entire bottle of sparkling by the end of the meal...guess I was thirsty! But I appreciated the option of both. I forgot to ask for a straw, but saw them in a container at the register right behind my table, so I got one myself. After ordering I noticed a nearby table had some bread so I asked Noel if they served complimentary bread. He said yes and apologized for not bringing it initially. Not that I needed it, but I don't eat bread with butter often and this was a night out to indulge a bit. There were two slices, nothing special. My food arrived within about 10-15 minutes and looked so scrumptious. I ordered the lamb and short rib meatballs and Brussels sprouts. The meatballs were pretty good, but what made them even better was the tzatziki sauce. I didn't realize the green rice was on one side of the plate until I was almost done. That tzatziki sauce was really all I needed to go with the meatballs. It was cool and creamy to go with the dry, meatiness of the meatballs. I honestly wish there had been more of it! I did not finish the rice, which didn't look super appetizing because of the intense green color. I will say though, I'm not a fan of spicy food but the tzatziki had a kick. I think perhaps due to chopped jalapeños. I tried to avoid them once I realized. The Brussels were delicious! Roasted to perfection, not too charred and not too mushy. I requested the green goddess sauce on the side because I'm not a huge sauce person, but once I tried it, I couldn't stop. Again, the combination of the creaminess of the sauce with the flakiness of the Brussels was a genius pairing. During the meal the beverage manager stopped by. I didn't have any drinks with the meal, but perhaps I will return to see what they have. Noel brought the bill at my request, then brought over the portable device so I could pay at the table. While that process is efficient, it's always awkward leaving a tip when the server is standing right there. Anyhow, overall it was a good experience and a delicious meal!

Honestly we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the burgers are! I had the Capital Burger which had such incredible flavor and the burger itself is thick and juicy. Despite having just had a big dinner somewhere else, as I write this, my mouth is watering. My daughter had the wild mushrooms burger and she loved it -- the aioli had the perfect tang to go with the mushroom and Swiss, both burgers were cooked perfectly medium as requested. The old fashioned was just your typical old fashioned with a slice of candied bacon attached to the outside of the glass. We were hoping for something smokier and a little different but it was still a very good Old Fashioned. We shared the chocolate mousse and it was perfection. Yum!
