We ordered the SAFFRON MUSHROOM RISSOTO. It is super delicious and a great representation of Italian risotto. It had a nice buttery texture with flavorful mushrooms. I also ordered a SIDE OF BREAD, which I is baked fresh in the wood fired oven. It is actually their pizza dough. We had a late lunch, and they allowed my daughter and I to share an entree without any extra charge. They have a good wine selection, mostly Italian, of course. read more

I recently went to Sette Osteria with my wife and a friend for a weekend dinner and the composite 3.5 stars that Sette Osteria has sums up my experience well. Great service, good ambiance, average at best food. The dishes ranged from not good to decent. We shared the following dishes: Focaccia: The focaccia was Roman-style pinsa crust. While not was I was expecting, it was fresh, warm, tasty, and great with the olive oil and pepper on the table. Tuna tartare: Not a great dish. The toasted bread was fine; however, the tuna did not taste fresh, it was extremely oily, the avocado puree added way too much fat, and there needed to be more acid. The tuna tartare is probably out of place on Setta Osteria's menu more broadly. Gnocchi: The gnocchi were very creamy, although a bit salty and gummy. Margherita: A solid pizza, with a good crust, tasty sauce, decent cheese, and good ratios Funghi: The crust was good, but the spinach was overcooked and wilted, and the mushrooms had minimal flavor. We shared the tiramisu for dessert, which was average at best. Sette Osteria is a solid option for a business lunch or if you are with picky eaters; there are other dining options in the area I would recommend instead. read more

Came here initially for the mussels, but ordered the lasagna. And OMG, the layers of the lasagna pasta embraced by the meat sauce and topped with ricotta was divine. Sure, it's a bit basic and maybe I'm not super sober, but i thought it was incredible and better than other basic lasagnas I've had in the past. I think the ricotta was what placed it above all others. The quality of the ricotta was whipped and not crumbly as some low quality ones are. Fiancée had the mozzarella salad and bread basket because he had a heavy lunched but it was so refreshing and nice, I definitely stole some bites to complement my rich lasagna. I went here on a date during restuarant week. The location was fine and had parking which was good. The service was okay but the menu was slightly different from the menu I reviewed online. I opted out of ordering the pasta and decided on the lamb chops. I ordered them medium but when they came to the table they were severely well done. Stop by on a whim for lunch and the setting is very nice, lots of outdoor seating. Loved the bucatini carbonara, but salad was pretty bad with many pieces of decaying lettuce and was pretty bland. I would say serving size was small. Service was meh, not terrible but nothing special, and not the fastest but we were there leisurely. There's a credit card fee of 3%. read more

I've been coming to Sette for years...mostly because it was convenient and a good place to unwind but meh...but this month is the first time I can honestly say it's becoming the Italian restaurant Dupont Circle has always needed. Popped in today at happy hour for a quick bite to eat and yep it's back! The new manager has completely elevated the experience. The revamped wine list is full of fantastic Italian gems at prices that make it impossible not to order a bottle. The chef is actually Italian, and you can taste it...the menu has been refreshed, and yes, there is finally a real carbonara on it. No cream, no onions, no garlic... just the authentic dish the way it's meant to be. The staff has always been warm and welcoming, but with the new leadership, the whole vibe is just more fun. The ambiance, the lighting, the food, and absolutely the wine all come together in a way that feels intentional and exciting. I'll definitely be back to watch it continue to evolve.!!! read more

This a great restaurant. I sat at the bar and had drinks with a friend on Sunday. The service was fine. The manager frequently checked on us and he was tremendous. The food was pretty good and authentic. We ordered a variety of cocktails and all were very tasty and well made. The game was on. Hands down our favorite spot in dc!! We bring all our visitors here and it never disappoints. It has a great ambiance, very open and lively and the outdoor seating is nice too. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the food is always delicious. Great prices too!! My go to is the spicy rigatoni with added meatballs and a Caesar salad. Would also highly recommend the focaccia to start. We just came for their bottomless brunch with offers mimosas or Bellinis with a 2 hour time frame for just $20!! Service was good, but everything else was pretty mediocre. The wine glasses were very dirty and no bread included which I feel is a must at any self-respecting Italian restaurant. The Burrata Caprese was fine. If bread had been a part of it I think that would've justified the price. I ordered a seafood pasta (forget the name) which was pretty basic and the shrimp / clams were a bit overcooked. I'm not an expert chef by any means, but I feel like I could do better at home. The food was good, I tried the arancini and a salad with shrimp. I asked them to switch out the Gorgonzola cheese for goat, and was given a bit of a hard time about that.. not sure why. It's an Italian restaurant and goat cheese is in other dishes. They ended up doing it and it came out as a block on top, which was perfectly fine but seemed even more odd to give me a hard time about it (it's not like it was premixed in or anything). ... I got a pancake first thing I knew was wrong was why did they put MELON on my pancake! That is not a fruit that in my opinion should ever be on a pancake. On the side is appropriate but not on top. Like I wish I took a picture but I'm talking cantaloupe and honey dew on my pancakes as the "seasonal fruit" that was advertised. Neither of those are even seasonal it's winter! I am being quite serious when I say I've had better pancakes at ihop. These were dry and strangely crispy. They had no butter, so I had to ask for butter on the side. Not even the syrup could save this meal as it had a sickly artificial taste. I think my friends enjoyed their meals much more and I am certain this place does savory better than sweet. The interior was well lite and quite beautiful, but nothing special I'd say. The appetizers all seemed like good options and we went with the burrata. It was really refreshing and the tomatoes were really sweet. I got the carbonara for my main dish and liked it. It wasn't the best carbonara in the world but hey we were hungry. The service was kind of slow and was is one of my only complaints. It felt like they disappeared after dropping off the food. Last night was my second time at Sette Osteria. My first was for a brunch during the summer, when we noticed they had pizza. The brunch was alright, with decent service but noticeably small drinks (small pours of weak cocktails) and okay food. The location is echo-y with its high ceilings, large windows, and warehouse-like interior (think concrete). There's a semi-open kitchen with a pizza oven and bar. There's TV screens with the game on. We had a table of 10 and even though I sat in the middle I could not hear what was said at the other end of the table. Oof. The service could be improved. The wait staff don't seem to want to give you the time of day on your schedule (but when they're done chatting with each other) so you're really relying on the bussers for service. Some of the staff were overly cheerful that it came across as inauthentic and unwelcome. We had appetizers which were all fine, though many were served in unnecessarily large plates, making it a struggle to fit everything on our table. I guess we should order less food. I also got the sense that 3 out of 5 appetizers used the same sauce...? like the same marinara? Which is pretty amazing if you think about it. We came for the pizza, which was a flop. I like to rate pizza by a standard margherita for its simple ingredients. The crust was fine but if you look at the picture you'll see it's just a cheese pizza with 3 basil leaves thrown on like an afterthought. If you make a mistake and made the wrong pizza please don't serve it to your customer as if they wouldn't notice--it's insulting. The salami was a standard pepperoni pizza and a crowd favorite. The quattro meat pizza was tasty but the toppings were divided into quadrants as if we had combined 1-topping pizzas into one (we can do this for cheap somewhere else ty). The funghi mushroom pizza was a huge letdown. it has no sauce, no cheese, and only a strong taste of truffle oil for flavor. There was more spinach than mushrooms and it was really questionable whether it meets the requirements of a pizza or if it's just flatbread with toppings. The prosciutto pizza with arugula was not a crowd favorite either because the prosciutto didn't taste like prosciutto. It's a thicker cut of meat with less fat and a reddish color. Maybe it's a replacement? Not sure. Taste-wise i thought it was good but yes it's def not prosciutto. We did order two pastas which was more loved than the pizza, but I again found the sauce to be the same for one of them and a strong garlic taste for the other so it was alright. I rarely leave reviews unless they're positive, but this needs to be said: do not waste your money at this restaurant--at least not the 14th Street location. I was part of a work-related party of nine, a size that should be easily handled by anyone with even minimal experience. What we received instead was terrible, inattentive service and food that ranged from mediocre to outright bad. My $32 branzino arrived barely room temperature. Another member of our party remarked that it looked--and tasted--like reheated Mrs. Paul's flattened fish sticks, and frankly, that assessment was generous. It was served atop a small pile of bland, over-blanched spinach with a few lukewarm cherry tomatoes tossed on for color. Thirty-two dollars. Service was consistently incompetent. Kitchen staff delivered plates sporadically, so no one received their entrée at the same time, and neither the server nor the runner seemed to know who had ordered what. Plates were dropped randomly around the table. I finally asked the server--in Spanish--whether she actually knew who had ordered which dish. She apologized, blamed the kitchen, and proceeded to ask the table who had ordered what, confirming what was already obvious. Portions were small, bland, and wildly overpriced. I would have taken photos, but out of courtesy to the person who made the reservation, I didn't. I couldn't finish what was put in front of me, and I wasn't alone. Compounding matters, I watched the server wipe her visibly dripping nose with her bare hand at the service station before delivering food, while the hostess stood at the front picking under her nails. Basic hygiene appeared optional. After plates were cleared, some people ordered dessert (why, I can't imagine). Based on the mediocrity of the entrées, I ordered an espresso martini, assuming it would be difficult to mess up. That assumption was wrong. The drink never arrived. Desserts--again delivered by kitchen staff, not our server--were finished before she checked in. Another member of my party mentioned that I never received my drink, to which she immediately replied, "It's coming." It clearly wasn't. The bartender was standing idle, and it was obvious the order had never been placed. About ten minutes later, she finally appeared with my drink and a tray of what may have been limoncello shots, announcing they were "on the house"--a transparent attempt to make up for lackluster food and thoroughly amateur service. I wasn't paying, as I was a guest at a work dinner, but had I been, I would have been far more vocal. I lived in DC for nearly 20 years and spent years waiting tables and bartending. You learn to recognize when a place simply isn't capable of stepping up. This was one of those places. Take my advice and skip this sorry claptrap. read more

Came on a Friday around 5 for happy hour which takes place on the patio and at the bar from 4-7pm. Had a great time! Patio is spacious and perfect on a nice day, it's also covered and they have heaters for a chillier day. Was empty when we arrived but filled up by 7pm. Easy to walk in without a reservation around 5pm but the place was packed inside and out closer to 8pm. They have a variety of cocktails for $8 for happy hour. I had the mezcal passionfruit cocktail and the fig mule, both were great but the fig mule was fabulous! Also aperol spritzes for $8 so a good deal. Also a decent happy hour menu for food! Got a pizza and sliders, both were delicious. The sliders were super tasty. Only came with two but satisfying especially with another food item. Service was attentive and fast. Lots of staff who checked in on us at least every 10 minutes. Overall can't complain. Great happy hour deal, left full and satisfied and will definitely be back! read more

This was my first time visiting the Connecticut Ave location as I have only had great experiences at the 14th st location. While brunch was good, the survive was subpar. My friends and I waited quite a long time to order and to receive refills of our bottomless mimosas. That was disappointing but somewhat understandable given how packed it was but the most frustrating was the fact that the server REPEATEDLY spilled mimosa on us as he was pouring and without any acknowledgment or an apology. I was willing to ignore it the first time but shortly after I finished wiping the drink out of my eye and off my face he proceeded to spill a significant amount of mimosa on my friends all white jeans. While mistakes happen, he was careless and again offered not even an apology. I enjoyed my food but will probably stick to the other location. read more

We came for Sunday brunch and it was packed so a reservation is recommended. I got the smoked salmon omelette and the italiana. The omelette was decent, and was a little broken when it came to the table. The breakfast potatoes were good though, with the perfect crispy ratio. The Italiana was good, and you do get that slight taste of lychee which I enjoyed. Service was quite slow, and it took awhile to get a server's attention just because of how busy it was. Our server was sweet and friendly though. There is a Yelp-check in offer of a free limoncello shot for the table; our server wasn't sure if the restaurant was still honoring it but she gave it to us anyways. It wasn't a good limoncello shot but I appreciated our server for putting it for us. They offer a daily happy hour 4-7pm at the bar, and a all night happy hour Sunday and Monday 4-10pm at the bar. My daughter and I wanted some lunch before my afternoon meetings so we decided to stop in to eat. She ordered the linguine pancetta and I ordered a beet salad. Simple enough right? So yummy!! I expected a chopped salad to be honest but it came out very authoritatively. The goat cheese was delicious in the salad. Her linguine was divine! Huge flavorful shrimp, pancetta and crab in a tomato sauce with linguine. Perfection. I loved it and we together devoured all of it. Lovely experience. I was in the area for a conference and this place came up in my search for pizza/Italian. I liked the vibes from the photos and the food looked good. It was about a 5 min drive from the hotel and I actually found parking for free (go after 6pm no feeding the meter.) We were sat right away and the we didn't have to wait too long for our waiter. The food was excellent, we had the burrata as an appetizer, I had the margherita pizza and my hubby had the filet mignon. I am stickler for pizza and this one was excellent. The filet mignon was cooked to my husband's liking and it wasn't dry at all. Our waiter checked in with us often and was very nice. There was one of the kitchen staff in the stall, and he left without washing his hands and went back behind the prep bar to start working handing customer's food. I mentioned it to the staff, and was told there is a sink in the stall, and that's true, but no water was ran in there. They were trying to defend his no hand washing a$$. No thank you. Not sure I'd return based on my recent visit. Our large group had reservations well in advance. They were 1/2 hour late in seating us. Slightly apologetic, but not especially. At 30 minutes late? We could've recovered from this, but once seated, our server didn't come by for a while and when he did, he never addressed the group to welcome us, introduce himself, etc. He'd just quietly begin taking orders around the table. It was odd and felt a bit off. On the positive side, our food was fine. Two in our group ordered the pesto with shrimp which was a good dish. I tasted bites. I ordered the salmon. It was good, but pretty standard. When I'd asked our waiter for a recommendation between two dishes, he gave his opinion (order the salmon) without any reason why. The asparagus served with the salmon was fresh and well prepared, not cooked to death. Bread for the table is not included, it's an add-on appetizer. My son and I shared a small carafe of red wine sangria which was nice. Interior ambience is lively. It gets quite loud inside. There's nothing to absorb noise, which can make conversations more challenging. I might try again someday, but wouldn't rush back, that's for sure! read more

Our recent visit to Sette Osteria DC was extremely disappointing and, honestly, alarming. What should have been an enjoyable brunch turned into a frustrating and unsafe experience. First, the brunch burger arrived with a hair in the food, which immediately raised concerns about cleanliness and quality control. More seriously, my friend has a documented allergy to oranges, and communicated this multiple times when ordering drinks, specifically confirming that she would be served a peach bellini and not a mimosa containing orange juice. Despite this, she was served a drink made with orange juice and experienced a full allergic reaction. Even after explaining what happened, the same mistake was made a second time. Negligence around food allergies is extremely serious and could have resulted in a much worse outcome. Service throughout the meal was also very poor. Our food took nearly two hours to arrive, and our server checked on our table only about three times over the course of roughly three hours. At one point we did not see our own server for nearly an hour, so we had to ask other staff members for assistance. Unfortunately, several servers responded with noticeable attitudes when we asked for basic things, which made the experience feel even more uncomfortable and dismissive. We had ordered bottomless bellinis, yet when our glasses were empty we repeatedly asked multiple staff members for refills. Each time we were told someone would return, but no one did, meaning we paid for a service we barely received. What made the experience even more upsetting was observing larger white tables who arrived well after us being served their food and drinks significantly earlier. As women of color, this differential treatment did not go unnoticed and left us feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Overall, the combination of unsafe handling of a known allergy, poor service, long wait times, dismissive attitudes from staff, and the perception of unequal treatment made this one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had. We hope management takes this feedback seriously and implements meaningful changes to ensure future guests are treated with greater care, attentiveness, and respect. I went with a group of people and we all got different things. The pappardelle with the bolognese sauce was so over cooked I legitimately only ate the sauce. The sauce with on the Alfredo pappardelle pasta was not a nice consistency and the noodles were under cooked. The calamari was fantastic, especially with those sauce pairings. Visited Sette Osteria for brunch on Sunday - not a memorable experience but not awful. I did their $25 lunch menu (a starter, entre and dessert). The starter was a salad that was drenched in dressing, it was a little too much for my taste. The entre was a wonderful lasagna, really filling with a good ratio of sauce/cheese/meat. Finally the dessert was a panna cotta, a big portion for one person but definitely tasty and not too sweet. Service was efficient but left my table and I feeling unwanted. We were a table of 10 and payed on 1 tab, tipped 20% but after staying for a bit after finish to chat and catch up we felt the glares from staff. A friend tried to order shots for the table and the server told us they'd have to talk to someone and see... very odd interaction. Needless to say we decided to leave. We sat outside in the early evening to enjoy the nice weather and some good food. One by one people came into the tent space we were seated right next to for some mixer event. The crowd grew and grew and it got incredibly loud, with people from the mixer bumping my chair. We were unable to hear each other the entire dinner. Food was fine, service was pretty slow. If the atmosphere had been better slower service wouldn't have been a problem, but we just wanted to get out of there. They need to either inform customers that they are going to be seated in the middle of a large loud event or figure out a separate event space for those types of things.
