The service was amazing,very nice server and also we were walk ins and didn't wait long to be seated and the ambiance is very welcoming and cozyish which was lovely . the food was amazinggg me and my bf ordered two different pizzas and one pasta and everything was good and he loved it as well! definitely recommend here in DC if you visit!
Had a pleasant time during our dinner here with friends. Choose to sit upstairs at their terrace or outside if the weather is nice because the ground floor is loud. Food was good. Not the biggest fan of neopolitan pizza as I prefer other styles with a more developed crust and undercarriage. But I still enjoyed what we had. I enjoyed the arancini and lasagna as well. Not so much the bread as to me it was too crusty and hard. Servers were nice and accomodating, no complaints. I'd go again if I was in the area and try out their other items. Recommended!

Saw this place highly recommended on Reddit so we decided to stop for dinner while in Georgetown. There were a good number of people in the afternoon around 5:15 PM so we decided to sit outside since the weather was pretty nice. We got our food pretty quickly and the servers were super attentive. Service was a 10/10. We ordered the Vegetable Rossa pizza, margherita pizza, and the seafood pasta (don't remember the exact name). The pizzas were absolutely delicious. The crust was light, airy, crispy, and chewy so I highly recommend the pizzas. It didn't feel super heavy so I was able to finish the whole pie but it can definitely be shared amongst two people. Now onto the pasta...my friend really enjoyed it for the next few hours after we finished eating but he unfortunately got food poisoning from the dish. Not sure if the seafood was bad or if it just didn't sit well in his stomach but he did say it was delicious haha. I would recommend il Canale but just beware of the seafood pasta. We picked this place since it seemed like a cute place in Georgetown to grab good Italian food and it was a great choice! I got the vegetarian Rossa Neapolitan style pizza and it was delicious. The sauce & ingredients were very fresh. I would go here again! The prices seemed similar to other places in the area and we parked in a garage across from the restaurant
Pretty decent Italian food in the Georgetown area. The Margherita Pizza was what was to be expected from a restaurant like this, but I was bummed by the sparse basil on top. My friend got the Caprese Salad as a main since she wasn't that hungry and enjoyed it. Service was a mixed bag. The hostess seemed to be having a bad day, but our server was very kind and helpful throughout our experience. Came for lunch on a Saturday and made a reservation, but don't think there's a need for anyone to do so since there was a lot of empty seating.
We had an amazing experience today! The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodating to our party of 6 arriving at different times. Even though we checked in early and planned to wait outside, they warmly welcomed us in and seated us right away. The house salad and Caesar salad were both 10/10 -- fresh, crisp lettuce, delicious cherry tomatoes, and light, flavorful dressings. The fried calamari with zucchini was a bit salty and lacked crunch (7.5/10), but everything else was excellent. The Margherita pizza had wonderful flavor with aromatic basil (9/10) the calzone was huge and delicious (9/10), and the seafood pasta was outstanding (10/10). The gnocchi and spaghetti were also great. The lobster ravioli 10/10. The soup of the day was cream or zucchini and it was creamy and smooth. You can tell they are using quality flour and ingredients. To top it all off, they surprised us with a birthday cannoli that had the perfect crunchy shell and creamy filling. Even the bread and rosemary-garlic olive oil were memorable. Wonderful food, kind staff, and a great overall experience -- we would absolutely return!

With all the traffic in the area from a good day, we had people over 20 minutes late and were still now allowed to sit. Great service from a first time waitress at il Canale. Ordered the diavola pizza which was delicious and a great way to carboload. Lots of pieces of meat and good. I wish there was a bit more cheese though. I also shared a Caesar salad and shared with a fellow friend. It had good flavors, kind of big pieces of salad to bite on though.
Toto took great care of us tonight and was very helpful when it came to choosing what to order. We started with the bruschetta with mozzarella, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal--it really hit the spot and didn't disappoint. The lasagna arrived piping hot, which was a nice touch. Service was exceptional from start to finish. We also saw several other dishes come out that looked incredible, so we'll definitely be back to try more.
If you want casual, authentic Italian with top-tier pizza, this is one of the best in DC. It is known for its authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, made with wood-fired ovens and imported Italian ingredients. Pizza al salmone was absolutely amazing, with a perfectly light, wood-fired crust topped with fresh, flavorful salmon that really stood out. recommend, good service, casual atmosphere with lively ambiance.
Wife and I stopped in for a pizza before heading to the UFC event in DC. Pizza was good and the service was good. Not the next we had while in town but was delicious nonetheless. Nice little place down a side street that's away from the hustle and bustle.
We had a wonderful time at Il Canale. We started with the Caesar salad and the fried mozzarella both had a nice flavor and prepared perfectly. The fried mozzarella had a little bit of a tangy red sauce to dividend or tomato sauce. It had a little bit of a spice. We ordered the meat, lover pizza and it was delicious. The right amount of sausage and ham and pepperoni. The crust was airy and flaky and I highly recommend getting more pizzas if you're with a group. I ordered the lobster ravioli and my fiancé ordered the mushroom ravioli. I have to say the mushroom ravioli was nicely seasoned with a very nice cheese to mushroom ratio inside the ravioli. Bruno, the Manager was so nice when he heard the lobster ravioli was not up to par in flavor and sent us dessert. Their ice cream gelato is amazing as well as the cannoli. You definitely need to go here. We are coming back in the next couple weeks.

Best Italian in the area! Everything felt authentic, fresh and flavorful. Make it for happy hour for some amazing deals on food and drinks. The seafood pasta with shrimp and clams were chefs kiss. The pizza had that perfect oven fire flavors. And we went for the tiramisu and was not disappointed! read more

I was in the DC area in mid November. I was there for a little girls trip with my best friend. I am the planner in the group and we were going to be in the Georgetown area and came across il Canale, for a place to have an early dinner. Of course, I have already researched il Canale before making a reservation. Everything I read was rave reviews so I knew I had to get in on this. Plus this ranked in the top 40 for places in the US on Yelp. So this traveling Yelp elite needed to check it out. We had a 4 PM reservation and were seated immediately. It happened to be kind of warm that day in mid November so we opted to sit outside. It was actually really nice sitting outside. Our waiter was super attentive. The owner came up to us a couple times and we had pretty good service the entire time we were there. Everyone was so polite and engaging our whole visit. The food lived up to my expectations! So good! I started with the soup of the day which happens to be the minestrone soup. It was jam packed with vegetables, and it had a mild broth. I LOVED it! I opted for the lobster ravioli. Fantastic flavor, filled with sweet lobster and a savory sauce on top. The meatballs were large, and a table favorite! They were not dry, and the sauce paired with it was top notch. The cannoli was sweet! So good! The interior is dark, but bright in color. Turns out there is an upstairs, but I never ventured that way. I just happened to notice it when I was on my way to the bathroom. The bathrooms were clean. You have to go. I recommend reservations! I'll be back! read more
First time in DC and this was recommended by a friend. Made a reservation through Yelp and only waited 10m for my table. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. It was very lively with multiple large parties having celebrations of all sorts! Italian radio was on and you couldn't help but shimmy. My server was really attentive and mentioned the specials of the evening. My drink, starters, and apps all arrived promptly. I ordered the following dishes: Bruschetta w Mozzarella di Buffalo Half Cesar Salad Lobster Ravioli Meat balls Though I ordered the Torta di Latte (Tris Leche) and got the Torta Caprese, my server was kind enough to rectify the mistake and gave me the one I ordered for to go. Il Canale continues to live up to its reputation. I ordered the gnocchi alla bolognese, and it was a standout -- light, pillowy gnocchi with a rich, well-seasoned sauce that felt like a genuine 10/10. Their red wine selection is strong, and the staff offered helpful suggestions that paired well with the meal. The only downside was the wait. Even with a reservation, we ended up standing in line for about twenty minutes before being seated, which took a bit of the shine off an otherwise smooth evening. Still, once we sat down, the service was warm and the overall experience made the visit worthwhile. Solid four stars, and I'd gladly come back for that gnocchi alone. I had il Canale for the first time a few years ago, and it was the first restaurant we added to our itinerary for this trip to DC! The area is a great stop after shopping in Georgetown, and we were able to walk in and get a table for lunch without any reservations. Went to il Canale with a friend on a Friday night. We made reservations that night and were seated promptly. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating and was fairly busy but not too loud. Our waiter was pretty attentive and gave us some great recommendations. We shared the calamari, which was not good at all. It was incredibly bland. Thankfully, the entrees made up for it. I had lobster ravioli and my friend had the lamb chops. The ravioli was superb. Flavorful, filling and just delicious. My friend loved their lamb chops. Came here for an anniversary treat with my husband- and we were not disappointed! As a gluten free folk, I love when I can get quality pizza and pasta that is GF - and servers who are knowledgeable about their GF items. We shared a GF pizza and pasta, and both were delicious (photos attached). Also had lovely glasses of wine that our server helped us pair with our food! The ambiance (we sat indoors, though outside seating looked lovely) was very cute and decorated well. I can see why this place is so loved, and can't wait to return! read more
Came here while I was with my friends in Georgetown. We had read great reviews about this place and the food and service definitely did not disappoint! The waiter was great in giving us recommendations and pairing wine to go with it. I ordered spaghetti alla carbonara. I really enjoy the creaminess and taste of it, not too salty and perfectly seasoned. I had also tried my friends Italian pizza. Good night in Georgetown. Have been to il Canale years ago and decided to drop in again. Fairly busy Monday night but they found room for us right away with no issues. Virginia was our server and she was great, service with a smile and very attentive. I had the bruschetta and lobster ravioli. I added the mozzarella to the bruschetta and it was excellent. The bread was perfectly toasted, not too much where it was like a brick and not too light where it became soggy. It held up to the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. The tomatoes were tossed perfectly with olive oil, salt and pepper. It was simple but tasty. The lobster ravioli was very good. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the tomato shallot cream sauce went very well with the dish. A tad bit of sweet with the acid was a nice touch. When I got bites of the lobster it was real good. The feedback I have is the ricotta to lobster ratio was definitely skewed to the ricotta and those flavors definitely came through, a little more lobster would have improved that (realize that comes at a cost). My boyfriend & I were out Saturday night and stumbled across this place - it was fairly busy with people inside & outside, so we figured we'd give it a try. To start, the waitress seemed like she didn't wanna be there & was rushing us to order- not off to the best start but we stayed. We ordered some cocktails, which were subpar - they tasted heavy on the alcohol and lacked flavor ( mint&cucumber spritz was one drink, don't remember the other). Finally, the pizza arrived & at that point the only thing salvageable from this meal was the free bread they brought for the table. We ordered a margarita pizza, which didn't have any tomato slices & looked like the basil was thrown on last minute (we were willing to overlook this), the pizza was brought out fast but when we cut into it, all the toppings came off like it was made of soup lol. The bottom of the pizza was inconsistent, with it being doughy/undercooked in some areas & burnt in the others, & we felt as if we got a completely different pizza than the pictures we saw online. We were upset, but ate our food, struggled to finish our drinks, & paid our tab. We're more than willing to give another try but had an upsetting experience & just want to give others a head up. read more

First off, I went here for Valentine's Day dinner so my review may be skewed. We had a reservation for 6:30 and wasn't seated until 6:55. I think they may have overbooked because when we entered, there was a very long line of people with reservations standing around waiting. People were getting shoved by busy waiters and order pick ups, so I personally already had a distaste in my mouth. The appetizers were fine, nothing special worth noting. The meal itself was probably the worst I've had in a while. The dishes were cold when it got to us, which came at 7:35. The steak was cold and the pasta was over boiled and dry. Maybe others have had a different experience when it wasn't as busy, but I did not have a great one and will not be returning. read more
We had no problem getting a reservation here on a Friday. Walk ups were also welcome. We sat outside, which I'd recommend over the inside. Service is QUICK! If you needed to be, you could be in and out in no time. We had bruschetta, a house salad, and margarita pizza with sausage. All were delicious! I wasn't a huge fan of the sausage sliced, but the crust, dough, and sauce were delicious. Bruschetta was tasty too - lots of tomatoes and not too crunchy and messy. Overall, I'd recommend for a quick and solid Italian meal! read more

To echo some of the other reviews about Valentine's Day, my boyfriend made a reservation two weeks ago for 7:15. When we arrived, the front lobby area was so crowded we could barely make it to the hostess, who clearly had no idea what she was doing. She told us they were "running late" and it would be 10-15 minutes. When we came back to ask around 7:30, she said it would be another 20 minutes MAX. We asked her for some honesty about the wait time because we'd rather find someplace else to dine if we had to wait much longer, and she reassured us it would be very soon and no longer than 20 minutes max. We weren't seated until 8:10, 40 minutes later. To make things worse, I ordered the Scialatielli allo Scoglio and the pasta had a horrible mushy texture. I don't know if it was overcooked or just microwaved in a bowl of water. There were 4 mussels in my pasta, 3 of which were just empty (and no, they didn't just fall out of the shell and into the pasta, I had finished the plate and there were none that just fell out of the shell). The only good things I have to say are, our server was very kind and prompt, and their pizza (we got the il Canale pizza) was great Neapolitan pizza. The owners don't care about your experience there and clearly just wanted to make the most money they could on what is supposed to be a fun and special night for many people by completely overbooking their tables and making people with RESERVATIONS wait up to an hour or more. How shameless and embarrassing on their behalf. read more

Okay hands down best lobster raviolis I almost liked the plate only thing I wish it was a bigger portion but then again I am most likely just saying that because they where delicious the food was 10/10 for me service my server was constantly checking on me so she was amazing and the ambiance was really cute little spot for a cold day for somebody like me from California it was nice and warm so it was perfect lil spot to have lunch just me myself and I love when restaurants make it easy to not be judged. I was in town for the weekend to run a half marathon and needed a place for dinner to do my final round of carb loading on Friday night. Being from out of town, I decided to use Yelp to find a place and il Canale stood out to me. I got there about 7:45 during the peak of dinner rush and it was bustling! There were people waiting outside for a table to be available. Since I was by myself, I was luckily able to find an open seat at the bar quickly, which was perfect because I was able to watch the game that was on. The bartender greeted me and provided a menu and water. After looking at the menu I asked the bartender what his suggestions are which he happily obliged. I decided to order the Penne al Salmone and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. The bartender provided the glass of wine quickly and before I knew it my pasta was being served. It was absolutely delicious!! The flavors were great, and it was the perfect size for my needs. It was light so I didn't feel heavy and it provided plenty of carbs for me. It was decently priced too. The atmosphere was great, as it was lovely with lots of people dining and talking and enjoy their meals. Next time I am in DC and want to have Italian, Il Canale will definitely be on the list! read more

It is, i dont normally like home made pasta but this was delicious. Made with wheat from Italy! I live in New york and there's no shortage of great Italian restaurants. This place not only holds up but surpasses many. Highly recommend!
