Had a great Friday night at Lupo Verde. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. We ordered the Cozze alla Diavola (mussels), Bistecca, Insalata di Anguria (watermelon salad), and Panna Cotta ai Frutti Rossi. Came here for the first time for brunch. We did the special three course brunch, which was actually higher price than what is posted on their website. We sat outside on their covered patio which was a nice vibe, and our server was attentive and friendly as was the host. The food, sadly,was nothing special. The fried artichoke was the only thing I would say was really good. My steak was cooked great but the cut of meat didn't seem great quality for the price point tbh and nothing had much flavor. The pasta carbonara was really bland and we actually took it to go so that we could zhuzh it up at home. So while definitely nothing was terrible there wasn't really anything worth a trip back sadly. read more

I really tried to have an enjoyable experience here, especially as it was a treat to myself since I'm moving away from DC after 5 years. But to start, I was given the wrong drink (honest mistake). The lobster dish ($42) was soaked in oil, flavorless, and overcooked. The manager kindly asked if I wanted to try something else and recommended the Dover sole (because I'm pescatarian). It tasted fine, albeit bland, but not very interesting or flavorful, and it was $75! I feel like the price should have been mentioned, since I was not given a menu again. A solid choice for Italian fare in a bustling area of DC! Had a 7:30pm reservation on Friday with my date, and I left there very satisfied and happy! The restaurant has two floors and a nice covered outdoor patio area for patrons. The interior of the restaurant is on the tighter side with the tables optimally arranged to maximize seating; between the music playing in the background and the chatter of the guests, expect the noise level to be pretty high. I was sitting across from my date across from the upstairs bar, and had to make him repeat himself a few times over the course of our dinner because it got pretty loud as the night progressed. We ordered one item from each category, along with a bottle of still water. We had the Arancini siculi e crema di zucchine, which was a solid starter, and came with 3 decently sized pieces. We also ordered a Caesar salad, pappardelle al ragù di cinghiale, and tagliate di manzo con purea di patate al tartufo to share. Between the two of us with pretty big appetites, we were able to finish everything with no leftovers. The Caesar salad comes with anchovies, so be prepared for some salty bites if you're not used to them. The papparadelle ragù was delicious; with the noodles being homemade and cooked perfectly al dente, make sure you eat this as soon as it arrives to the table for the best taste! The star of the dinner was the pan-seared strip steak, cooked medium, perfectly tender and was served with a side of some fingerling potatoes. We both thoroughly enjoyed our Friday night Italian dinner here and will definitely be back again before moving to our next city! read more

I'm a fan of all of the Lupo restaurants. I'm not certain if Lupo Verde is the original, but all of their restaurants are incredible. I made reservations on OpenTable and although I'd selected inside dining, the hostess was accommodating and switched us to an outdoor table to enjoy a glorious afternoon. They have a covered patio but also a spacious open air spot alongside T Street. I like that they have a combination of regular items on the menu with a fair number of seasonal options. This time I got the Gigli alla Norcino e Funghi, because it sounded delicious and has a pasta shape that I've never tried before. Amazing. To drink I had one of their specialty cocktails with a name that I cannot recall and cannot find on their online menu. But it was a gin and grapefruit with lime and simple syrup; kind of like a Gimlet and perfect for a sunny late afternoon. Lupo always impresses with their food and hospitality. read more

Amazing first experience at Lupo Verde. From the beginning, we were given awesome service. The whole staff is warm from the servers to even the bussers. Next- The food- is truly fantastic. I had the agnolotti and my boyfriend, the casarecce. I can recommend both. The portions are not crazy huge but you will be full at the end. This pasta is GOOD. We came in early evening with a reservation and were seated in the outdoor patio promptly. It was warm and quaint out there so bonus for that. We ordered the zucchini flowers which were so light and tasty but gone super quickly, a couple drinks which were just okay (would opt for wine next time). But the real star of the show was the pasta. My friend ordered the cacio e Pepe and I got the lasagna. Both tasted really like there were fresh pasta noodles and her cacio e pepe was perfectly Al dente and bouncy. The service is incredible - the owner regularly checks in and makes sure that we feel welcome, and there's never been a time we haven't experienced 5-Star treatment. I'm really picky about my food, and Lupo Verde is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Whenever anyone is visiting, we bring them here because we know that everyone will be impressed by the food. Impromptu stop here. Had been out walking . . . it was hot . . . mosquitos were trifling . . . I was hungry. Italian seemed good and cocktail menu seemed pretty attractive. Only hightop tables here, which is a bummer (I'm 5'2), but nothing anyone can control. I came for a late lunch, so I was the only person there. Is this REAL Italian . . . eh . . . not exactly. Owned by a French guy who owns a few restaurants in the area. But I'm a snob because when you've had Italian from nonnas straight off the boat or from second or third generation Italian families in Little Italy . . . makes it tough. But the food is pretty good just the same. The arancini, made with saffron risotto, beef, and mozzarella was a decent starter. No complaints. At the recommendation of the bartender, I had the ravioli all emiliana, ravioli made with braised short rib, ricotta, and vodka sauce. The short rib was moist and flavorful. The vodka sauce was just decent. For cocktails I had the Lupo picante (tequila, aperol, st. Germain), the peppino sorintino (gin limoncello, lemon juice, Prosecco), and the Positano, which was quite spicy and made with jalapeño infused spirit). The dinner menu is more expansive--cacio e Pepe, fettuccini alla norcina, fettuccini all bolognese, lasagna, gnocchi, linguine, pesto pasta, and more. For secondi they have veal, risotto al funghi, Branzino, and more. I am giving five stars because my server/the bartender, Ivan, was great. Very attentive and cool, gave me a little aperitif to wrap up the meal. Seems like a real neighborhood place, not pretentious. So is this the best Italian you'll ever have? Probably not. The bread was focaccia that had been toasted rather than fresh, and there was nothing to dip it in (some herbed olive oil had been sprinkled on it prior to serving, though), so it was dry. I had the gnocchi gorgonzola e spinach - the gnocchi were a good texture (slightly firm but on the soft side) but the sauce was not my favorite - I love strong cheese but as a sauce, it was too strong. My partner had the vegetarian pacchieri which was good but not a standout. I suspect their appetizers & charcuterie are better than the dishes we tried. I would also come back to try the salad named after the restaurant which sounds great - I just didn't quite get the carb fix I was craving here! read more

Wow, visiting DC with some gal friends for a show and Lupo Verde checked all my boxes of a perfect restaurant experience, plus some! Hospitality from the workers right off the bat (so welcoming)! A gorgeous building with that authentic Italian ambiance and feel. I mean the food was all so good... mussels were the best I've ever had, Caesar salad was perfection, the table had shared a few pastas but the cannelloni is still on my mind! And the tiramisu.. oh em gee. But really it's the little things like constant pre bussing, polished glasses, hospitality, waters always full, check backs at the table by multiple staff (even the owner twice).. we loved it all! read more

Was excited to try this place because of some recommendations. The interior was nice and well decorated (it is pretty small so the tables are a little cramped) and the service was great! The only thing that fell short for me was the food. I got the agrodolce pizza and the dough was exactly what I usually look for in Neapolitan--soft and bouncy with a nice char--but the flavors were totally unbalanced. On top of that, the mozzarella was shredded and seemed like it may have been the kind that came in pre-shredded in a bag. I will say that they had some other pizzas that looked like they came with fresh bufala mozzarella, which may have been a better choice. On our first night in town, a couple of us decided to visit Lupo Verde and have a couple of drinks & apps. We sat on the patio, which has a great vibe, and the service was great, with servers being friendly and accommodating. The food and drink came out quick, and was delicious. It definitely would have been a 5-star night until one of us looked at the dish cart next to us (and near the door leading inside) and saw that it was crawling with cockroaches. The video I've included doesn't do it justice, as some of them had scurried off by the time we took it. We asked for the manager and she exhibited no remorse or understanding as to why this was pretty gross. We were told that this was normal and to be expected when eating outdoors in DC. It was compared to the odd insect or rodent running past when eating outside. I've been eating on patios, rooftops and the like for decades and not seen something like this. We won't be visiting in the future. Far too many great options in the area to have to deal with a cockroach colony. read more

If you want to see Chuck Schumer, this is apparently a place he visits and schmoozes with people at. Beyond that, the service here is excellent. We came in a large group and the waiters were all very attentive and patient with answering our questions and providing necessary substitutions. We were there a few weeks before a friend's wedding and they also provided us a free shot of limoncello. The decorations and vibe here are also excellent - it's a great place to celebrate or for a fancier evening meal. The drinks here were also excellent - the bartender did a great job of mixing everything so that no flavor was overpowering. I ordered the Wellington and it was fine. Came here for dinner with a friend recently and had a decent experience. Nothing really knocked my socks off, but it was enjoyable. We sat outside on the patio, which was nice bc the weather was nice, but we were definitely packed in very tightly. The service was friendly but brusque and not super attentive. I had to flag people down to have my water refilled multiple times. We started with the burrata al tartufo with truffled burrata, rapini, caponata, and toast points. It was definitely my favorite thing we got. I loved how all the flavors really harmonized with each other, and it was really delightful. Must order! We also split an order of the fritto misto, which is pretty huge portion-wise. I would recommend getting this with groups of 3+ unless you can really house a lot of calamari. The calamari itself was a bit too thick and on the chewier side than I prefer, but i really appreciated that the breading was nice and light. I would've liked more of the prawns, but they were very hard to eat as they still had the shell on and were very hot and messy to have to handle with your bare hands. For my entree, I got the Pesto Gnocchi which was a lot more oily than i was expecting. The gnocchi itself was nice and pillowy, and I liked the crispy pancetta on top. My friend got the Ravioli with a pink vodka sauce, and it was tasty, but very small portions (I think there were only like 4 ravioli on the plate). All in all, it was a fine experience read more

Went in for a later dinner and was seated very quickly by hostess and promptly greeted by server. Small inside dining room and bar. Nicely decorated with table lights but still kind of dark. Wife and daughter ordered a seafood pasta dish. Many of them are and mostly all red sauce dishes that had different treatments than I usually look for in traditional Italian food. I ordered the roast chicken with potatoes and we split a frito misto app. and we all sort of shared as we weren't that hungry. The frito misto was good but a bit overcooked/dry. She liked her pasta but wasn't that crazy about it. The chicken was roasted with a nice seasoned skin but was VERY dry and meat not seasoned very well. Potatoes were good and shishito peppers few but good. Just couldn't eat the rest of the chicken because it was like eating soft wood after a while. Not really top notch nor very authentic Italian restaurant with high average pricing taking into account for the area. The server was fantastic and staff friendly but the food was nothing to get excited about. I'm half Italian and cook a lot at home and we've all spent a lot of time in Italy so we have a high bar. But even though it's on the block of our daughters apt I don't think we will try it again. It looks like their pizza place a few doors away is popular so maybe we will try that next time read more

Let me first admit that my ideas of what stuff should cost is anchored in the 1980s. The $$ in the description was a factor in choosing this restaurant. We enjoyed Lupo Verde verrrrry much! The ground floor room makes it look like a real hole-in-the-wall, quite cozy. There is also an upstairs dining room and a heated sidewalk area. We stayed inside for lunch on this cool, rainy day. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The lunch menu had several interesting dishes, making it hard to decide. We split a Caesar salad and an order of gigli (means "lily") pasta with wild mushrooms and crumbled Italian sausage: both were exceptional. For dessert, we shared a lovely tiramisu served in what looked like an Irish Coffee mug, kind of a parfait glass with a handle. It was a wonderful meal. Which brings me back to my concept of prices. I was first a bit shocked: I guess $$ now is what $$$ used to be. But by taking advantage of Lupo Verde's luncheon deal, we were able to have a memorable meal while busting neither our bellies nor our pocketbook. The deal included a salad and a pasta for $29, plus a glass of wine for an additional $5. Including dessert and tip, it was about $60. Gotta say, that was about what I paid for a modest Chinese food delivery that evening. read more

Some of the main course options are around $30 individually so truly a great deal. We got the tiramisu French toast as our starter which I'd recommend-- Nutella, berries and cream... how could you go wrong? I have had the short rib ravioli before and enjoyed it so I got it again.
