I recently took my wife to Floriana during date night. This is a good restaurant. Their staff was extremely respectful and did a great job hosting us. It's a pretty romantic spot inside as well. They have outdoor seating too. Parking is rough. We started off with cocktails. I had an old-fashioned and she had sangria. For starters, she had the butternut soup and I had the brussels sprouts both dishes were very fresh and tasted great. For our main entrée, I had the duck breast and she had the bolognese. Went for restaurant week and would give 3.5 stars. First to note, parking in this area is not great. At all. Finding the restaurant was easy but walking into a foyer that looked like the back of a restaurant / server entrance with no staff to greet you was a little confusing. There are curtains sectioning off the dining area, but lots of questions when you first walk in. Also note that the dining room is verrrrry dark at night, and it can get very loud when crowded. Service was okay, but there were multiple times when we wondered where our server was. The bread, oil, and winter sangria were AMAZING. For food we had Brussels, calamari, and mussels to start (all delicious), tortellini mignon (underwhelming and sent back for the lobster linguine), scallop and shrimp risotto (okay, but I've had better), and branzino (good and cooked well) as entrees. I had the tiramisu for dessert which was good, but I did almost choke in the first bite from the amount of cinnamon. This place is so cute! When we came in, we were seated pretty fast. Vibes are very cute And intimate, as it's a restaurant built in a house. Although all of the tables are small, somehow it wasn't cramped which is kind of rare for a restaurant of this style. They had a pretty good special going on where you could get an appetizer and entrée and a dessert for $55. Some things were an upcharge, such as the filet mignon I got which was a seven dollar up charge, but I felt that was more than fair. The servers were kind and knowledgeable and kept our water glasses full. The steak was good. It wasn't exceptionally delicious, but I have been eating a lot of steaks recently and this is definitely one of the better ones. Steak was served on top of mashed potatoes and broccoli. The mashed potatoes were honestly kind of cold and I wish they were a little thicker. I really enjoyed the broccoli. The leaves were slightly crunchy and the taste was pretty good. The sauce that was on top of the plate wasn't particularly delicious, but it wasn't bad so I suppose it was OK. For the black gnocchi, the gnocchi itself was very good. It was chewy and a decent size. I also really enjoyed the sauce. I don't eat pork so instead of the sausage they gave me shrimp. I was not that crazy about the shrimp, but I do appreciate that they substituted it for me. The size of the dish was honestly kind of small, But the presentation was very cute. The Tiramisu was light and fluffy! It was Perfect and I usually don't like tiramisu that much. There's Not too much of a dense coffee taste. I also really enjoyed the Mango sorbet. I think it might have been a little better than other mango sorbets I've had on average. I think for the value it was a pretty good stop. The food was excellent! We LOVED the owner/manager (not sure lol). He came to chat with us a few times and seemed genuinely passionate about what he did which is always an amazing thing to see. The decor and ambiance was very cozy and intimate. It really gave a private but familiar classy experience. Our waitress was also very kind. The only complaint I have is the bussers or the guys who fill waters and stuff were a little passive aggressive. But otherwise, would absolutely come back! Floriana is an Italian staple in the DuPont circle neighborhood! Located in a cozy row home, they have beautiful inside and outdoor options for seating. We love to go on Mondays/Tuesdays for their $55 three course dinner special - the portions are always very generous with enough to take home! They have a great wine list, and even offer half priced bottles on Wednesday/Sundays. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. Most recently we got their calamari (always a favorite), mussels in wine sauce, duck breast, and lamb gnocchi. The gnocchi had such a rich and decadent flavor. Pasta is absolutely made in house if this was a review only on the pasta I would give 5 stars. We were seated inside which was lovely. Great ambiance and candle lit dinner. The duck pasta was fabulous. I don't see many pastas made with duck so that was novel. The white sauce and the green onions gave it a freshness factor. And you MUST get the lamb gnocchi. It was sooo rich and gluttonous. I split this with my sister, definitely enough for 2 people. We got 2 appetizers - Caesar salad and calamari. Calamari was fantastic, paired really well with the tomato sauce they give you. The Caesar was ok, I wish their were more capers in there. And the croutons were a bit hard. You could probably do without the Caesar. For dessert we got tiramisu and bread pudding. Tiramisu was a hit. No notes. Texture and flavors were both there. The bread pudding was not a hit. Out of my 17 years living in Washington DC, I went to Floriana several times, each time better than before. Fifteen years later, it is still the same outstanding restaurant I remember. But in all the times I frequented it, I didn't realize just how many more upstairs rooms they have. Fast forward 15 years. We have a family wedding and the rehearsal dinner is at Floriana. What a tremendous evening. An upstairs that fit over 30 people. A menu tailored for simplicity and yet sublime. The salad was superb. The entrees were divine. I had the pan seared salmon over crème fraiche, with delicate adornments of potatoes, onions and capers. My other half had duck. Sublime dish with foie gras. The other selections were lamb gnocchi and a vegetarian plate. And tiramisu at the end. We also had one of the best waitpersons EVER. First time trying a nicer sit down restaurant in DC. Very good! I was recommended here after look at some reviews and after talking to some of the locals. To start off with, it is very charming atmosphere here, I sat outside, but it looks like they repurposed an older house to make it into a restaurant. Loved to see that! The service was fantastic as well, had water at my table within a minute, if that, of sitting down. My food also came out speedily as well! I had the Lamb Gnocchi, which was incredible! I thought it was very flavorful. I thought it more of a stew and would've liked to have had a spoon, but, I made it work! Once again, I cannot praise Floriana enough! What a lovely little place!!! It gets a little tight depending on where you sit, but I met several people here for dinner and honestly I was impressed. It was pretty full, but the service was pretty good! I don't remember our server's name, but she was efficient and polite. I got the lamb gnocchi that my friend recommended, and go figure, it's one of the most popular dishes among Yelpers. I SEE WHY. It was definitely no store-bought gnocchi and it just tasted so fantastic with the lamb that was miraculously not dried out! It was my first time having lamb in pasta, believe it or not. I went in with no expectations and was really pleased with the experience. The service was top-notch, the waiter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and his recommendations were excellent. The food was really good, very good portion - filling without having any extra leftover, and the price, for DC, was relatively reasonable. I had the duck, which was cooked perfectly and had great sides. The wine, recommended by the waiter, was great. The ambiance was very good - dark but not too dark, cozy, enough room between tables. The restaurant feels like a home. It reminds me of other authentic-feeling Italian restaurants near Philly or NYC that have that super cozy feel, with servers who have serious knowledge and passion about food and wine. I would recommend this restaurant and am surprised people talk much, much more about other restaurants like Filomena or Lupo Verde (which are very good). I will also note that I walked from town to this restaurant, so I did not have to deal with parking. I'll also note that many DC restaurants do not have good parking situations, so I wouldn't factor that into my judgment anyway. read more

I spoke directly with the manager and a server, confirmed multiple times that I would have a table with a view of the race, and even left a $150 deposit. When I arrived, they tried to seat me behind the main tables with no view at all. When I reminded the manager that I was promised a table for the race, he claimed there was never a guarantee--something he never mentioned when taking my deposit in person. To make matters worse, when I brought up the issue, he brushed me off with, "Can you write down your info so I can handle this later? We're busy right now." That response says it all: a complete lack of professionalism, etiquette, and basic customer service. The staff took no accountability and acted like I was in the wrong for expecting what I paid for. Thankfully, I got my $150 deposit back--but that's the only thing they did right. I'll never return. This place is unorganized, dismissive, and clearly doesn't value its customers. read more

I went on Saturday to Floriana. Initially I thought of sitting inside but outside was shady so i asked for a seat under the tent. My reservation was for 6 pm. I get the menu and immediately put in an order for a glass of wine because the waiter was right there. I thought I ordered red but a white came out. Not a big deal. I cheated and looked at the menu ahead of time and was thinking lasagna. Lots of people out on Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't that busy. I got a look inside and not too many people eating. I had to wash my hands. The stairs going up are slanted a bit. No soap to wash in the men's room. I didn't notice it until my hands were wet...ok. A pre dinner snack was on the table when I returned form the men's room. I wasn't sure what it was...looked like toast with a side of pesto. Never thought about pesto and toast but I'll give it a try. Not sure what was in the small metal container but it didn't taste good. Ok, I push it aside and sip the wine. The lasagna showed up before too long and (I have to be honest) I have never seen lasagna that looked like what was on my plate. I have a bite or two, it's ok. Great place for quality Italian! This was my first time going for brunch. They had a curated brunch menu, so don't expect the full dinner menu during the day! We especially love their bread and pesto they usually serve at dinner, so we asked if they had it for brunch. They don't usually serve it but they were nice enough to give us some! It is truly amazing pesto and delicious bread. The lasagna is amazing and full of flavor. The totelloni was delicious but I recommend adding some pesto sauce for more of a kick if you can get your hands on it! The Banana Foster French Toast was delicious but very sweet. I had brunch at Floriana today with some friends. The brunch menu is varied, with some classics - both American and Italian: French Toast, Steak and Eggs, Frittatas, Uovo Purgatorio, Benedicts, Lasagna, Tortellini, and more. I do wish the brunch menu had a lighter option or two - an interesting salad or a fish entree. Because it was hot today, and I would have loved a lighter, refreshing dish! I also wish the pasta dishes came with a side salad! That would have made me feel better ordering a heavier pasta dish for brunch. It was too hot outside to eat lasagna (even though it's what I really wanted), so I ordered the Tortelloni Mignon (filled with beef tenderloin and served in tomato cream sauce). The filling was dry, but otherwise the dish was fine. I liked that they offered half off bottles of wine two days a week, including Sundays, so we got a bottle of Prosecco (the wine list only had two bottles of Champagne listed, but it said Prosecco on a page of the menu, so I just asked if they had it, and they did - wish the wine menu was a little more clear). The service was good, and the building has some historic charm. Overall, it was a fine meal, but nothing that stands out to me among DC's Italian restaurants. read more

We almost missed it because the itemized receipt was tucked away. If there is a notice on the on menu both of the paying members (of our party of four) also missed that. How is this place getting such high reviews? I don't understand. Yes the space is cute and lovely for a date. Unfortunately my wife would be so disappointed from the food if we came here the rest of my night would be a mess. Sunday and Wednesday they do half price bottle of wine night, and the wine selection is decent from an Italian bottle perspective. They have very little old or unique wines, but with the 50% the wines are a good deal. Beyond the space and half priced bottle of wine night, we have some real issues. The service feels cluttered and confused. The're not quite sure what's going on. The food is highly inconsistent. The pesto that comes with the bread is extremely flavorful and really quite a treat. The cheese and charcuterie board felt so uninspired. I cannot imagine serving that representation of three hard, boring cheeses to people. Very little variety on what was on the plate. The Gnocchi appetizer was terribly overcooked, though I guess the flavors were alright. The lasgna had some great flavors, but again, the noodles were limp and sad. Its a small restaurant, but has a couple of floors and outdoor seating but it was pretty packed on a Sunday. The ambiance is super romantic! DRINKS: I got the espresso martini and it was delicious! My husband got something but I cant remember what it was (and I forgot to take a picture). They were also doing half price wine bottles. FOOD: The service was amazing. We had a few questions and we were torn between so many different incredible options but our waitress was pure perfection! We started with the Arancini. They were some of the best I've had. The crust was thin bit still crispy so it didn't take away from the risotto. And the inside was so flavorful! For our entrees, we were torn between basically the whole menu. BUT! You can do half portions so we got 4 meals to try (we dug into on so fast we forgot to take a picture). - The Lamb Gnocchi was so savory. The ricotta on to really adds creaminess that gives it depth - We also got the Gnocchi that had goat cheese foam. It was a lighter taste, but the goat cheese was the star. It added a really unique flavor without messing up the lightness of it. - the Tortelloni Mignon are a MUST! That is the one we forgot to take a picture of. It's rich and creamy and actually has a good amount of meat inside. - My favorite was the Shrimp and Scallop Risotto. Let me preface this with I LOVE RISOTTO! So at first I was worried it would be basic. But it was one of the best I've ever had. It was rich and flavorful and the truffle really brought all the flavor together. I hadn't stepped into an Italian restaurant since I was in Venice Italy. My good friend told me to go and get the Sunday gravy pasta. I'm so glad we went AND brought a great bottle of Sangiovese!!! the way I went to an Italian restaurant and didn't get pasta is criminal - okay so floriana is the cutest ever, it's in an old townhome and so cozy and special. they rotate the menu a lot to keep it seasonal but for some odd reason had only like 2 pasta pasta noodle dishes...like we know im not ordering ravioli to get 3 pieces for $35... - I went with the duck breast sitting on the most ~melty pillowy ~ gnocchi I have ever had. this made me like gnocchi. the texture and the way the potato soaked up all the glaze from the duck WOW - the meat itself had a sweet demi glaze that contrasted the savoriness of the meat and potato. I was hooked. it came with swiss chard but by that they meant maybe a tablespoon ... sigh - my companion got the lamb gnocchi which was devoured in .3 seconds, a great sign. he said the duck was better but loved the richness of the lamb and the insane quality of the gnocchi - they bring you bread with the best pesto I've ever eaten once you order. the pesto was soooo lemoney and light - the duck had a large layer of fat under the skin above the breast on every piece, meaning I was cutting away chunks of my meal that were not doing it for me. personal preference probably but I did not like that read more
