Friday night dinner. We had reservations at Filomena and decided to try somewhere different. Dropped off by an uber right at our reservation time and checked in - immediately sat. We started with the burrata caprese which came out fast and was good. I liked how the table had oil on it, which I used as well as the pepper grinder to add seasoning to the appetizer. For my entree I ordered the Cacio e Pepe - which was good but pretty dry all things considered. We ordered dessert which took way too long. It was a chocolate cake puck with vanilla ice cream and fruit sauce. Tasted fine. We were forgot about over and over - and I would say that if you're going to serve just pedestrian Italian - the service better be A+++ to buoy things. read more

This was my first and most likely last time dinning in for Sette Osteria. After walking in at 5pm on a Sunday I was surprised to see that it was empty inside outside of a host and server/bartender. Perhaps this is due to the lack of hospitality to be find with the service. The server was prompt to take my order, however after that she was hard to find. By that I mean that she was chatting up the host in the corner completely engrossed in conversation that's clearly not work related. They were clearly enjoying the conversation as I had to flag them down to check on my fries (which were apparently taking 30 minutes) and a refill of my cocktail, which required another flagging down. I then decided to order their funghi pizza and asked if I go get it to go. This clearly finally got her attention to which she said happy hour isn't for to go. The margarita: meh,the Parmesan fries: meh, the service meh to it's a no for me and the hard and way too small chairs at the bar that you are forced to get happy hour at even if there's no one in the restaurant: a heck no. First time we have been here although one in our group had been there before and recommended we try it since the group was in the mood for Italian. We were a bit disappointed as the menu in play on the night we arrived (a Tuesday night) was not the same dinner menu posted online nor was it the same menu when the individual in our group went last. The "new" menu was a bit limited but all found something to order. Food was okay. The cavatelli with sausage and Pecorino Romano was okay. The pasta was good but the sauce and sausage were lacking depth and maybe just a bit too much cheese. The chef agreed to make the rigatoni with spicy vodka sauce that was listed on the "regular" dinner menu for two in our party. They both enjoyed it although the sauce was on the higher end of spicy but again the pasta was excellent. One in the party had the grilled chicken with vegetables which was excellent but not something you would expect to find at an Italian restaurant. For appetizers we ordered a plan cheese pizza which everyone liked but it really wasn't anything special. Coming from NYC I've had better. We also ordered the calamari appetizer and the was okay. It was actually a mix also containing fried zucchini and fried shrimp. The shrimp was excellent and the star of the appetizer. The problem is that the shrimp is more dense then the calamari and to get the shrimp cooked right everything was cooked a bit longer which ended with some of the calamari being overcooked and chewy and the zucchini getting soaked with oil. Maybe skip adding the shrimp or offer the shrimp as a stand alone appetizer or even as a separate dish. Service was good and, as noted the Chef was accommodating. Not sure we will be back...it really depends on what dinner menu is in play. read more

We ordered the bread, and high was definitely dry... and didn't come with any sauce so we had to ask for marinara. Marinara should automatically come with the bread tbh. We also ordered the meatballs and they were okay. They reminded me of chef boyardi canned meatballs, small and not too flavorful. The fries were good and the fried corn balls were good. We walked in without a reservation and the place was almost empty-except for the bar. I requested a table for two. The host stated that he was not able to accommodate us. People walked in right after us, without reservations, and he was able to accommodate them. I can't help but to question the motive behind his decision. I am very disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant due to who they select to enter. We were casually dressed and so was everyone else sitting at the tables and bar-nothing extravagant. I decided to revisit this restaurant after a bad experience from a year prior. The AC was out, which was a hindrance, but the Restaurant did the best to work with our large group. Overall, I would say my opinion of the food improved significantly. I ordered one of the brunch, entrées, specifically the egg white omelette. It was absolutely delicious, I ate every bite and completely enjoyed it. What was missing, though was the service aspect. Our server was mostly absent despite our large table size and the restaurant being mostly empty. At first, we were somewhat joking about not seeing them often, but after waiting about 20 or so minutes to order, someone actually had to get up from the table to ask if we could order...and even that after that, we didn't see our server for another 15 or so minutes. This was a trend that continued...empty glasses sat empty until we could get someone's attention--we were sat in the very back so it felt like while we weren't directly being ignored, we were in a sense being ignored. So, despite thinking the food was great, service again was just an absolute huge miss for me. For how empty the restaurant, it's a little baffling why we didn't receive better service. read more

First of all, I would like to curse the chef for forever ruining gnocchi for me! The reason being is that the gnocchi at Sette is the (hands down) the best gnocchi I have ever had in my life! Stopped by Sette Osteria for brunch with friends during Howard Homecoming weekend. Forgot to take photos of the food I had such a great time. We sat inside as our group was on the larger end with 8 people. Restaurant decor was modern with lots of windows to bring in natural light during the day. Our water Oz was friendly and attentive. Handled every request we threw his way and then some. My friends tend to be demanding especially when food is involved . We opted for bottomless drinks at $20 pp I think it may be the cheapest in the city! You can choose unlimited mimosas or Bellinis. Apps we selected were arancini, and a couple of Cesar salads. Entrees were spicy rigatoni and crab cake sandwich. The pasta was great but the crab cake sandwich really surprised me. Not only full of crab meat but amazing flavor. We had a reservation for 7pm for a party of 6 on a Friday evening. When we arrived on time for our reservation, we ended up having to wait about 15 minutes because apparently they had seated someone at our table and they needed to find us a new table. We ended up in the back of the restaurant in a pretty narrow spot where waiters kept bumping our seats. We ordered some bread for the table as well as some prosciutto and burrata. I had the Linguine con Pancetta e Gamberi with Linguine, Bacon, Shrimp, Crab Meat, and Vodka Sauce. X had the Bucatini alla Carbonara with the Guanciale, Egg Yolk, Black Pepper, Onions, and Pecorino. X's bucatini was pretty bland, which isn't usually the vibe with carbonara dishes. Mine had good flavor, but the homemade pasta was too mushy and wasn't able to really deal with the amount of sauce that was in the bowl. I think either a more al dente pasta or a thicker pasta might've been better. Service was fairly attentive and we felt well taken care of. I lived a few blocks from Sette Osteria for six years, passed by it a thousand times, and still never tried it. Moved to the Midwest, then came back to visit this week and finally gave it a try. The results? Solidly mediocre. I'll give props to the service and the setting. The large dining room easily accommodated our group of eight for last-minute reservation. The waitress was very friendly and attentive for our group, which included three young kids. The food itself was fine, but nothing to write home about. I had a pepperoni pizza, which came out pretty standard. I wasn't particularly impressed. Kids had alfredo. Decent-ish. I don't even remember what my wife had. Might've been a salad. Idk. Whatever it was, it obviously wasn't memorable. Giving it a 4/5 because of the good service, otherwise it would be a solid 3. Works in a pinch, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. My experience was amazing. From the time we walked in the door everyone showed great customer service. I hosted a friendsgiving there and had a box of gifts. They put them in a safe place until I needed them. The server was on point .... we never had to look for her. The manager was great. Our recent visit to Sette Osteria DC was extremely disappointing and, honestly, alarming. What should have been an enjoyable brunch turned into a frustrating and unsafe experience. First, the brunch burger arrived with a hair in the food, which immediately raised concerns about cleanliness and quality control. More seriously, I have a documented allergy to oranges, and I communicated this multiple times when ordering drinks, specifically confirming that I would be served a peach bellini and not a mimosa containing orange juice. Despite this, I was served a drink made with orange juice and experienced a full allergic reaction. Even after explaining what happened, the same mistake was made a second time. Negligence around food allergies is extremely serious and could have resulted in a much worse outcome. Service throughout the meal was also very poor. Our food took nearly two hours to arrive, and our server checked on our table only about three times over the course of roughly three hours. At one point we did not see our own server for nearly an hour, so we had to ask other staff members for assistance. Unfortunately, several servers responded with noticeable attitudes when we asked for basic things, which made the experience feel even more uncomfortable and dismissive. We had ordered bottomless mimosas, yet when our glasses were empty we repeatedly asked multiple staff members for refills. Each time we were told someone would return, but no one did, meaning we paid for a service we barely received. What made the experience even more upsetting was observing larger white tables who arrived well after us being served their food and drinks significantly earlier. As women of color, this differential treatment did not go unnoticed and left us feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. Overall, the combination of unsafe handling of a known allergy, poor service, long wait times, dismissive attitudes from staff, and the perception of unequal treatment made this one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had. We hope management takes this feedback seriously and implements meaningful changes to ensure future guests are treated with greater care, attentiveness, and respect. We visited Sette Osteria on a Friday to enjoy Italian night with some good food and drinks! This was the only place that was accepting large parties and hence we picked up Sette Osteria. We started off with some complimentary freshly baked bread and ordered a Rigatoni, veggie pizza and a side of sautéed mushrooms. My friend also ordered a seafood platter, that included salmon, and shrimp and calamari. My friends also ordered a Pinot and red wine which they said complimented well with the food. Everything tasted good, the Rigatoni was creamy and had a tint of spiciness which I enjoyed! Overall, a decent place if you're looking for good food and drinks. P.S. Everything we ordered was so delicious and creamy! The Gorgonzola sauce on the gnocchi was a deliciously creamy sauce and it was so good dipping the bread in there too!! Overall a great place for a good meal. My girlfriend and I came here for a fancy anniversary dinner without ever coming here before. We were underwhelmed by the welcoming staff but we did not have wait for a table which was nice. The food was absolutely delicious. We got the bread basket and arancini as appetizers. Both were very good. The bread was a little dry but it was warm and seemed fresh. We ate the whole thing. As for the arancini, it was very good as well. The spicy tomato sauce that was provided along side it, was delicious as well. We ordered the bolognese and the spicy rigatoni. The homemade pasta was beyond delicious. The bolognese was very flavorful and fresh with a meaty sauce. I added chicken to the spicy rigatoni for an extra $12. Which is a bit expensive for my taste but I needed the protein. The chicken was very tender and tasty. The spicy rigatoni was flavorful and perfectly spicy. The portions for both pastas were very large and worth the money. I would definitely get the pasta again if I returned. We also ordered a few cocktails from the bar and were not disappointed. The Italiana, whiskey ginger, and pinot Grigio were tasty and STRONG. Thank you bartender. Overall we had a good time and great food. The serving staff were polite and friendly. However, we felt that our expectations for a tentative staff were not met. When we were ready to order food they mentioned they aren't making any pizzas or calzones which led us to believe they were maybe out of dough? We didn't get anymore detail for a reason why but no pizzas took out about 70% of the happy hour menu foods which was disappointing. I ended up ordering the gnocchi which wasn't bad. Calamari wasn't as crispy, it was mostly fried zucchini, and the lettuce in the salad just didn't seem as fresh. We actually left after appetizers to go eat elsewhere. Sette DuPont Circle is one of two locations in Washington, DC, and has been in The District for many years now. They just renovated the DuPont location and it lis very nice. The staff is kind and attentive and the menu has an extensive range of options from pasta to pizza and a variety of Italian classics. I ordered the Cavatelli All'Indiavolata and ate the whole bowl.
