We had a party of 20 people split over two tables. We were grateful to be accommodated and had good service. Most people really enjoyed the food. The regular cacio e pepe looked amazing and everyone said it was great. However, two people got gluten free penne supposedly cacio is pepe but the sauce was totally different and not very good. They were disappointed. My Tartarufa pizza was yummy. The drinks were good and also the complimentary focaccia! The main beef I have with our experience was that a 25% gratuity was added. I know we were a very large group and of course gratuity will be included automatically but 25% is excessively high and my friend was not advised in advance. read more

Cleanliness: ROACHES (See below.) Food- Pretty good, but portions are small & OVERPRICED for the quality & atmosphere. After paying nearly $200 for 2 appetizers, 1 dinner entree (fish special), plain bread, & water, I went to the restroom only to have a ROACH SCURRY ACROSS MY TOES!! (Wearing sandals.) I quickly stomped it with the other & took a pic. (Attached)My husband told the staff, but they said & did NOTHING. No sorry; no removal of the dead roach. We expected more from this experience. Really enjoyed the dinner experience here. Came here as a party of 20 or so. They ended ip having to split us into two tables but that's ok. Service was great. The manager (?) Lahlou was lovely. I was shocked at the quality of the tagliatelle I ordered. I genuinely expected to pick at my plate and take most of it home, but all but licked my plate clean. Pasta is homeeeee made. Melts in your mouth. Totally on point. One star down for the bread. Kind of stale ish... I know an Italian spot can do better. Overall a disappointing experience, with a shock when we saw the bill at the end of the meal. The food was ok. I ordered the panini (burger) which was good. The fries were good but some were cold and undercooked others were fine and crunchy. It was so intermittent that it was surprising every time I got a cold fry. My wife's pasta had a super small portion of burrata cheese on her "burrata pomodoro" which left the pasta a bit more dry. The kicker was the wine situation. My party of 3 ordered wine, the waitress suggested just getting a bottle of wine. (Which usually is more economical than each person ordering an individual glass for $16.) We ended getting a bottle of the house Pinot noir. We did not need a bottle just thought it was more economical. The wine was merely OK as it was rather watery and not full bodied. We got the bill and BAM! $70 for a bottle of cheap wine. I understand than alcohol licenses cost money and there is a mark up. But we were all shocked and felt like we were taken advantage of. Super glad we only paid for the house wine and did not upgrade to waitress' recommendation. I can't imagine how expensive that would have been. I was so disappointed in the wine after seeing the price on the bill, I looked it up....it costs $9.99 retail. Maybe cheaper if purchased in bulk. But that explains the low quality. I am not a Sommelier, and am usually ok with house wines. We used to come here a lot. But this location changed. Food quality declined and alcohol prices are deceptive. Second visit to Lupo Marino, and it did not disappoint again. Promptly seated for a 6:00 PM reservation despite the restaurant being fully packed, cheerfully and energetically alive, in the best way. The service matched the vibe: warm, attentive, and efficient. Our server was pleasant, and the food arrived quickly, hot, and fresh. The focaccia was light, airy, and golden-brown. I took a moment to admire my pasta (yes, I played with it a little before diving in), and it was worth the anticipation. The Cacio e Pepe with shrimp was rich and comforting: creamy, thick noodles, peppery bite, succulent, fresh, delicate shrimp. Really disappointing experience. The water was served at room temperature, and didn't offer us to sit outside. The draft beer was warm, which was hard to understand, and when I mentioned it, the server brought me another beer with ice in it. Why isn't the beer cold when it comes out. The food was the biggest letdown. The spaghetti Bolognese was bland, dry, and had barely any sauce. The pasta was also overcooked. It was so disappointing that I couldn't even finish my meal. Considering the quality, the prices are far too high. The only highlight of the visit was the mixed drinks, which were actually good. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, especially given the high prices and poor food quality. read more

OK. I'm raising my rating of Lupo Marino back up to 4 starts because we are learning how to navigate the menu and avoid the mistakes that can come out of this kitchen. To be clear, if you like heavy, cheesy, rich food, then you will love most of the menu. If you prefer a little more restraint, then you must order very carefully. This time I tried the eggplant Parmesan, after the waiter assured me that it wasn't buried in cheese. She was right. The flavor was very good and it wasn't buried in cheese, but it unfortunately was very heavily breaded -- seemingly as much bread as eggplant (Lupo should take a cue from All Purpose in Navy Yard, that knows how to create a rich eggplant Parm without all that breading). Order it to share. The margherita remains the best pizza, with a terrific crust and sauce, but even that pie, limited to discs of fresh mozzarella, has about 50% more of it than you'd find on a real Neapolitan pie. Salads remain good. Just order your dressing on the side to avoid the risk of drowning. It's hit or miss depending on who's in the kitchen. Better to do it yourself. read more

Our visit started as a simple question about where to buy spirts and wine and ended up being invited into an experience never to be forgotten. The staff were so welcoming during our late afternoon visit. We met most of the staff were treated to sample pasta.... so good and later enjoyed a great meatball pizza. Unbelievably good. Pizza is Neapolitan style, crazy crispy crust and very flavorful. Pastas are Housemade with a ton of variety. I thought the short room was the best at our table. Shout out to Juan for turning disappointment into happiness last night!! We had dinner plans for after my son's meeting at 7 pm but the meeting ran late so we left after 8 pm for dinner and arrived here around 8:30 pm. We were seated immediately and ordered our food. I told Juan that my son had a meeting at 9 pm so bring all the food as soon as it was ready! Boy did he deliver!! Our food came within minutes. Went to Lupo Marino on the Wharf last weekend and it did not disappoint! My friends and I went for the bottomless brunch, which is a great deal! $38 for an entree and bottomless mimosas. The portions of food were great. The pizzas were all incredible, the crust was perfectly cooked. The Caesar salad does have anchovies, which I am not a big fan of so I ordered the salad without them and it was great. The restaurant itself was decorated very well, with pictures of Italy everywhere. The servers made sure our drinks were never empty, so definitely recommend for a weekend brunch! read more

While the policy was understandable, the initial approach caught me off guard and felt a bit off-putting. I was reluctant to give up my cup since it was reusable and my latte was still fresh, but I handed it over. A short time later, the manager returned, apologized for his initial approach, introduced himself, and offered to refill my cup with any coffee drink of my choice. This gesture really turned the experience around, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness. We ordered drinks and the grilled octopus, which was absolutely delicious. The flavors were incredible and paired perfectly with the aperitif shots the manager kindly brought out to complement our meal. We were staying by the Wharf, so we decided to get some pizza from Lupo Marino. We ordered the Funghi and the Piccante. I would say the Funghi was better than the Piccante. Both pizzas are very rich and heavy. The Piccante was just overly greasy and heavy. The crust was amazing and the dough is crispy but also soft. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate larger groups. We ordered a mixture of things as apps and they were pretty good. The table really enjoyed the Fritto Mistro and Polpette Al Sugo. For my entree, I got the Tagliatelle allá Genovese (pasta with braised short ribs) and it was underwhelming. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Lupo Marino. I booked a reservation here to dinner prior to a show at The Anthem, and the reviews were pretty decent. However, it didn't live up to the expectations. Upon arriving, my husband and I were shown to a table against the wall that had been set up under some kind of ledge that might normally be used as a bar. I would have had this ledge leaning up against me so I asked if we could move to another table. We were seated at a table in front of the door and the hostess stand, so it was cramped. The tables were extremely packed, I had to use a plastic chair, and the table was wobbly so we had to fix that as well. The day had been a little warm so the door was propped open but when we got to the restaurant, it was really chilly. Since we were right by the door, I asked the waitress if we could shut the door. The waitress said she had to ask the manager and the manager came back and said no. There was a couple next to us who said that they also asked to close the door and the manager said no. My husband ended up getting up and was like Yo dog, it's 40 degrees outside, close the door. They ended up closing the door so like a little sexist? Why will the close a door when a man asks? The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we opted for still. You can imagine our surpris when we found out that we were charged $8.00 for water because we did not specify "tap." We didn't discuss it with the waiter but I thought that was idk, kind of shitty? Everyone knows that you don't pay for the still water We started with the grilled octopus which was ok and we ordered two of the bruschettas. I want to clarify, this meant that we literally got one of each type of bruschetta. I thought we would get like a small plate of both but it was literally two pieces of bread for $12 each. Yikes. I got the short rib pasta which was fine. The sauce wasn't very smooth. My husband got a panini that was also fine but certainly not worth the price tag. For the trouble with asking to move the table, the wobbly furniture, the water, and the door issue, not the best. Won't be returning! read more

I went to culinary school. We ordered the pizza with caramelized onions and braided short ribs. The short rib is delicious, id come back to try it with pasta. Stay away from the pizza, it's greasy with too much cheese in proportion to the crust. Also, please do not lie on your menu. Those were not caramelized onions, they were barely cooked raw red onions. You can technically caramelize red onions but it'll leave a muddy color. Better to use yellow or white onions...and actually caramelize them. The food here gets 5 stars. It was delicious food and honestly the best Italian food I've had. I honestly rarely write bad reviews BUT the service was honestly the worst part. And I feel like people need to know what happens in this place before going!!!! The manager or whoever he is (stands in the front seating people) embarrasses his wait staff in front of the customers and then tries to make you validate his actions. He scolded us when we walked in for not having a reservation and placed us at the long table with a big group (this group was already sat when we arrived) so we're all squished on this table. There were plenty of tables available but he claimed they were for those who made a reservation??? Nobody came into this place after us either mind you (so how could the tables have been for reservation). We came pretty late too around 7:30pm. So I don't know why he wouldn't give any of us a regular table. I think he wanted to use us to make the place look busy at the front to get more people to come in. What a fantastic food find on the Wharf. This place was hopping on a Saturday night and it was ran like a Ferrari buy the diligent and professional front house guy. He balanced the large and small groups and kept the tables flowing. Everyone was excellent from the host to the food runners and bus boys. The food was phenomenal!!! They didn't miss a tic. My very picky GF really enjoyed the lobster ravioli, I've never have seen here eat so much. She hates everything but ate all but 1 ravioli which was a bonus for me because tried it and was really pleased. My pesto shrimp was terrific and I couldn't finish the portion. I had always heard of the Wharf from my friends in the DMV area. So, I came here to look for good food and great views. Food: 3/ 5 I am not going to lie, none of the places by the water are cheap. So be prepared to spend some cash. We found this place had a the most reasonable prices (which around crazy is still crazy ). I got the pasta dish and she got the pasta. If I had to choose one dish to not get it was the meatballs. They were very tough not very tasty. For two entrées, one app, one drink ($120/ tax and tip). Ambiance:2/5 We came at a bad time since the bar next door was blasting music for someone's birthday party. We choose outside seating (clearly a mistiake) and suffered from the loud noise and not enough table lights avaliable to be spared for us and another table. It is not that the service was bad, but these rest of the experience was lacking. All in all, I don't think I will go back because I know other Italian options that I preferred more.
