I made a reservation for this spot on the wharf with my partner and kids. They sat us on the second floor, which is a gorgeous space. The restaurant is interesting, with a bar area on the first floor, cafe and store also on the first, a nice inside restaurant on the second floor, an outdoor balcony that is enclosed on colder days and a rooftop section. The overall experience was good, though did have some kinks. The place has a lower rating, and I guess I can see why. But overall, we did enjoy our evening. We were seated on the outdoor balcony. The windows were all closed except for the one, which really cooled the place down on the cold night. We asked several staff about closing it. They were insisting that people wanted it open. After a few times asking, they did close it and everyone was cheering us since they were freezing and wearing jackets as the sun went down. They also have heaters on the balcony. They don't turn them on unless asked. We moved here from LA and that is something they always do at night. It surprised us they didn't turn them on since it really helped after they turned the one on by our table. Our server was very friendly and sweet. We appreciated how nice she was to our family, but at the same time, it felt like she had a lot of tables. Our food arrived fairly quickly, and we didn't get our wine until about 45 minutes after the food was served. The bar apparently was really backed up. But still, a little shocking that a carafe of wine would take that long. We were hoping to enjoy the red wine with our pasta, but we enjoyed it as an after dinner drink. The prices are a little high, which is something a lot of reviewers dislike. It was fine and in our opinion, typical of a higher end Italian restaurant. I think the main issue at this place is the slow service of the bar and the overwhelmed staff. It really felt like it was on a skeleton crew and there was a real lack of action as everyone had to check with management before anything could happen. A great example is that we had reservations for the outside balcony. I asked if we could be inside instead and every person said they'd have to check. We ended up just staying outside but we would have loved to go indoors. Throughout the night, there were multiple empty tables inside. It just felt like the place was not managed well. The food was good overall. My partner got the risotto, which was by far the best of all the dishes. I got the Tagliatelle, which was also good but I still liked my partner's risotto the best. We also ordered pasta for our daughter, meatballs over polenta (also really tasty) and our son got a Caesar salad. There is also bread that you can order, but not on the menu which struck us as odd. It's $3.50 extra. Fine but not exactly told up front after ordering when we asked if we could get bread. Overall, the service is friendly but feels very inconsistent. The food is good and the ambiance is great. Are there other greater places on the wharf? Yes! But it's still a nice option. We'd come back. Been wanting to try the brunch at Officina for a while and finally was able to make it. We were seated promptly and given our water preference. Our drink order also came out quickly. We started with the meatballs and Caesar salad, and I loved how they kept the anchovies more whole versus broken down. For entrees we opted for the pancakes and the bolognese. Both were so good! The pasta was rich and full of flavor and the pancakes were so fluffy and had a great hint of lemon. Will definitely be back to try out the dinner and happy hour. Highly recommend. read more

Officina gives a wonderful dining atmosphere right on the DC wharf. Can serve perfectly as the setting for a romantic date or a lunch/evening with friends. The Vitello (stuffed veal) is a MUST! Delicious flavors filled with celery root puree, trumpet mushrooms, hazelnuts and glazed w/ an ossified buck sauce. Delizioso! I also enjoyed the spicy rigatoni. It wasn't too spicy and I loved the nuda ricotta drops it's served with. It literally melts in your mouth. The broccolini was also a great vegetable complement to the meal:). Came here for a birthday happy hour that turned into a rooftop party our friend was DJing at. My review is about the downstairs only. I had: Standard lemon drop w/tequila - 10/10 - no notes Fritto Miso - 0/10 - this may have been the most underwhelming calamari I've ever had. The dish was supposed to have: crispy calamari, rock shrimp & green tomato. Served with a lemon aioli. It came with a nearly raw potatoes, peppers, popcorn shrimp and soggy calamari that was more oil than anything. The aioli was the only thing that saved it. At $19 you definitely have expectations and I love calamari so it was disappointing. With the hassle that is parking in the wharf I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to come back for the food. Officina is located at the Wharf in D.C. with that said, parking is a nightmare! Prices for parking are high so expect 40-60$ extra just to park. On to the restaurant, the aesthetics of the restaurant are just beautiful! Definitely can dress up or come casual. To my surprise the honey picked Italian, he's not really a pasta guy. I do love Italian, so lucky me! Service was great! Let's get into it! Fritto Mitso - Super Yummy! Fried Shrimp and Calamari with a medley of peppers! Portion size on the smaller side. Polpette - Braised Meatball, sauce delicious! Portion side on the small side. Lamb Chops - Delicious but very small! Fusilli with Crab - Fusilli drizzled in oil dressing with crab, this was on a speciality menu and unfortunately I forgot to write the name down or take a pic of the menu. Drinks - Great! Overall, portion sizes were on the small side. Very good food but for the extra expense of the Wharf and small dishes, I would likely not return. Service was good but nothing that would woo us back. Officina has a lot to offer for a restaurant. The restaurant itself is hosted on the first and second floor. There's a large bar on the first floor and a very small bar on the second floor, but the second floor has the most activity as far as patrons. There's also a rooftop that often has events or parties after the restaurant closes on floor 3 where they only serve drinks: I dined in and I tried the lobster linguine. This is why I gave four stars. My lobster was not chewy and meaty, but rather quite soft and flimsy. Not sure how it was cooked. Yes the flavor was there but the texture wasn't what I expected. Linguine was great. Service was also very fast and polite, friendly & accommodating despite having quite a lot of people in the restaurant. If you love Italian food then you'll like Officina. It's a multifaceted restaurant where the lower level is super casual, kinda rustic, with a large bar. The Second level is fine dining, white table cloths and is definitely a vibe. The second level also has a generous amount of outdoor tables to take in the water views of the Wharf. When we visited, it was super hot out, so we didn't take advantage of the third level rooftop but we did dine outside although the sun seemed to follow us around. Lol The food was excellent taste wise. We had the Fritto Misto (calamari and shrimp) as an appetizer, she had the crab topped pasta and I had the lamb chops for entrées. Again, all top tier taste wise, but unlike most Italian restaurants, the portions were super small and left you wanting more. I had to get an order of meatballs just to leave somewhat full. Great drag brunch!!! My friends met here for the drag brunch and it did not disappoint ! We took the elevator to the rooftop (spectacular views!), welcomed with the complementary cocktail- some kind of frozen YUMMINESS - and were seated. The DJ was AWESOME as he warmed us up for the entertainment! I ordered the French toast and bacon. Be sure to ask your server to bring you syrup as it took awhile for my side of bacon and hot syrup to arrive. The coffee with milk was delicious! On to the drag show! It was awesome! My wife and I were visiting from out of town and came here on May 31 at 11:00 AM to celebrate a special occasion. I'm so glad I picked this spot--she absolutely loved it, and the view of the D.C. Wharf made it all the more memorable. I had made a reservation in advance and noted that we'd only have about an hour before needing to head to the airport. We were greeted by someone who seemed to be the manager, who kindly acknowledged the timing and ensured everything ran smoothly--even though our flight ended up getting delayed. This looks like it has great promise. Waterfront views, high ceilings, breezy interior design. The main dining room is upstairs, cool stairway, there is an elevator option as well. Service was extremely slow. While I have read you can eat pork medium rare, it's not how I prefer pork. The starter was decent, ricotta had a strange texture. That said, I still see some room for the place to grow into its hype. Came for drag brunch during Pride weekend and overall had a nice time but definitely felt a little scammed as they charged us more than what's listed on their menu. We weren't in the mood to fight management over $4.50 but listing drink prices as $12 and charging $16.50 is super suspect. We didn't order off the Pride menu (where the drinks are more expensive) and felt like we were unchanged to match the prices of Pride theme drinks. Definitely felt a type of way about it! Other than that the drag brunch was really fun. The performances were great! The music was way too loud for me though, I had earplugs in the whole time. As for food, I had an eggs benedict which is served with bacon on it on foccacia bread. Was underwhelmed by my meal. The bread tasted very stale and the predominant flavor was salt without much else. The restaurant is beautiful, especially on the top floor roof deck. Great lighting for pictures and the perfect atmosphere on a sunny day. Our service was really friendly and nice and we enjoyed our drinks and the lattes and espresso drinks were equally tasty. Probably a little pricier than your average drag brunch as the $30 ticket doesn't include food (just a very weak welcome drink). Getting there is a nightmare. The parking cost is ridiculous. I think this restaurant is over-hyped, tbh. We aren't big eaters. If we order appetizers, it's likely we will ask for takeout containers to take home most of the main course. We found the portions to be quite small & grossly overpriced. I really wanted to check out the Christmas decor over at the wharf but finding last minute reservations for dinner at our usual spots like La Vie was hard. Officina had plenty of open reservations. When we got here, the place seemed fairly empty, at least on the ground level. We were seated on level 2, which was somewhat busy but def not its full potential. Level 3 has a heated patio, but it was closed. The place has a dark and moody, yet inviting vibe. I really liked the cozy looking bar on level 2. Fairly open concept kitchens with very clean countertops. Started with the burrata and Ricotta crostini. Both were pretty well done dishes. I will say that the olive oil they used to drizzle on top of the burrata tasted stale, which is a shame - after all, there an Italian restaurant. For the main course, I had agnolotto di zucca ( veg), Lily had the risotto off their specials menu and Ragz opted for the branzino. I absolutely loved my agnolotto - very pretty looking, yes but also very delicious. Perfect buttery rich sauce, pillowy stuffed pasta and perfectly cooked veggies on top. The flavor was a great mix of soft fall flavors and a bit of a crunch from pumpkin seeds. Ragz loved his branzino - def hit at our table. I also enjoyed lily's Risotto but she felt it was more toothsome than she would have preferred. The flavors were delicious though - a light tangy sauce. We also shared the side of baby potatoes which while cooked well, seriously lacked seasoning and were sadly fairly forgetful. For desserts, I loved my panacotta and it was also a pretty big serving. Lily and Ragz being coffee lovers shared the tiramisu ( very well made) and Ragz also got the pistachio gelato - this was okay, not that great tbh. We just had our engagement party there and I must say the management are classless people. From the planing to the actual event they were unhelpful and passive aggressive. Our minimum spend was $19.5k (inc tax and service) and we were not going to eat nor drink that much but they still tried to underserve us with poor quality drinks and rushing each part of the evening. The most passive aggressive and inhospitable hospitality service ever. The great views and good food do not make up for the shoddy management. I was unsure of how I would like the food based on more recent reviews, but our pasta dishes, wines and desserts were great. Our server was helpful and offered to let us taste two wines before choosing our glass. She also made great suggestions even though we didn't end up choosing any of them. Ambiance on the terrazza was wonderful. It was airy and sunny, but most of it is inside so in inclement weather you can still sit out there. It is really well done with plants and spacious seating. Although they didn't have my favorite beer and the replacement beer wasn't very good - the service was decent and the salad, the main course, and dessert was tasty and well liked by almost everyone in the group. The other thing I liked is that the acoustics of this place are good and it does not get very loud when you have too many people around . A friend recommended we check out this location for happy hour, which included both drinks and small bites. There are 3 floors and happy hour is only available on the first floor. It was fairly empty for it to be HH on Friday, so the staff was able to move our reservation to the first floor. HH: The menu on the website has not been updated in a while as it differed what was actually served in the restaurant. I got the Ciao Bella drink and Steak skewers which were both really good!! My friends got the crab cake slider which was sooooooo small but they said it was good. I also ordered dinner, which the portion was very small as well but tasted good! We later decided to go the rooftop which is all table seating. It was a nice view from the rooftop! To finish off our time there, we got dessert which I got the Panna Cotta. Overall, I'm between a 3.5 and 4 I enjoyed my experience with good food and drinks just the prices did not match the quantity of food expected. We went for the Drag Brunch that Officina offers and it was such a wonderful experience! There is a reservation fee with the ticket, but this gets you a drink as you are being welcomed to your seat. What I LOVED about this experience is that it's really catered to each individual group. Each reservation is seated at a table are them and the staff are efficient in making sure you feel welcomed. They had listed as a special that day Zuccini flowers but they were not available at 6pm. Why list it?My seafood grill entre was excellent with a large portion of perfectly grilled mixed seafood including octopus, fresh fish, squid and shrimp. My wife ordered Pasta All'Amatriciana. Very odd experience happened here, we ordered a few drinks and some pizza , everything was fine-we gave our card and I ran to the restroom as my friend waited for the card to return so we could tip and leave- when I came back my friend said he was still awaiting my card but the bartender said huh? Are you sure ? Which lead to a huge debacle - we both knew we didn't get the card And the bartender truly didn't know what happened and double checked the tabs claiming he would have HAD to have given us our card back because there is nowhere else that it could be. Lol umm well I don't have it so look harder please ! They search and search - keep in mind the restaurant is pretty dead but there is a party to the left and right of us and we were sat at the bar. If it had been super busy I could almost understand but it was a very intimate setting - finally another female bartender came up to us and said he she checked the other tabs and we simply must have got the card Back because they don't have it - this was disturbing as I was on vacation and was relying on that specific card but okkkkk. I was very slow and hesitant to leave so I lingered looking around bewildered until my eye caught the girls sitting to the left of me paying with the same brand and color cc I was missing I stared it down and their bartender caught my gaze and confirmed that it was indeed MY card, how did my cc end up in their hands ? I was in shock as this has never happened to me in my life .pretty upset we left - I froze my card as the people paying with my card gave me a bad feeling and they also saw my cc number - regardless my friend I was with was upset for me and made a call so the general manager Bruce was aware - Bruce was apologetic and offered to refund my card for the the inconvenience which we found fair. It was literally a $35 tab very minor we were more upset about the incident in general And wanting to make sure it never happens again to anyone . My family and I planned to go to Officina's location at the wharf for my sister's birthday. Our hostess was super chatty and took the cake I brought right away, which made me feel welcomed immediately. We were seated on the top floor which is a closed off patio. The heaters kept us warm and we had a great view of the waterfront. I ordered the lobster roll and it's possible that my experience is slightly biased from a recent trip to Boston, but I didn't find the lobster roll that impressive. I was not expecting the lettuce and I felt that they did not offer a lot of lobster relative to the amount of sandwich bread. I also didn't love the sauce on the sandwich either. We were also charged an additional $7 on top of our bill+tip because we brought a cake from an outside establishment. So that's something to be mindful of as well! read more

My friend and I went to Officina for DC's restaurant week. Their brunch menu was $25 for 3 courses. When we got there, there were only a few tables seated but the staff looked so stressed out and chaotic. We tried to act overly calm to reassure our waitress the whole time because everytime she came to check in on us, she looked so worried! (the service was great) Food wise, my friend and I had their meatball with bread crumbs and a grits-like mashed potato. The dish was on the salty side and a little grainy, but the meatball was fresh and filled with flavor. I definitely enjoyed my steak more. The sauce complimented the dish so well & the potatoes were perfectly roasted and salted. My friend's carbonara was a little disappointing, unfortunately. The sauce was a little thick and the noodle choice was a little questionable (a little too thick). However, for $25, we really can't complain! To finish the meal off, we enjoyed their tiramisu and cannoli. Both desserts were solid...nothing exceptional, but tasty! You really can't beat a 3-course brunch for $25, especially nowadays.
