Osteria Morini has been one of our favorite weekend brunch and dinner spots for years. Whether we're catching up with friends who live around Capitol Hill or bringing the family, it always delivers. Between the handmade pasta, creative cocktails, beautiful waterfront views, and welcoming staff, it's become one of our regular OpenTable reservations. At this point, we've tried just about everything on the menu, from the bomboloni and fluffy Morini pancakes at brunch to many of the pastas at dinner. If it's your first visit, don't skip the gnudi--they're pillowy ricotta dumplings that are absolutely worth ordering. The pappardelle and cappelletti are also favorites, while the gnocchi and tagliatelle are always a hit with kids. The espresso martini is a great way to kick off a relaxing weekend, and what keeps us coming back isn't just the food. We've gotten to know the chefs, managers, and several servers over the years, and they consistently make us feel welcome. It's the kind of restaurant that remembers its regulars and creates an experience that's just as enjoyable as the meal itself. My prior experience with Morini Monday hasn't been great, but I enjoyed the brunch. I ordered the frittata which turned out to be an omelet. It was good, not what I expected, but it was good.u friends ordered different versions of the pancakes and they appeared more dense and thicker, more like dutch baby pancake almost. They enjoyed them but found that one could be split amongst many people. The cocktails I found to be the best part of the meal. I started with the espresso martini and it was your standard but good. Our server was very prompt and attentive and was quick to alert us that the fryer was out and several items were unavailable. There were few parties in the restaurant so the space was pretty quiet and comfortable. Overall easy experience, nothing too memorable, but nothing bad. read more

Osteria Morini makes some high quality pastas in the Navy Yard area. Starting off with the service, our waiter took great care of us and made some great recommendations on the menu. My friend and I ordered the ricotta ravioli for an appetizer and the Casarecce and the Gramigna. All dishes were cooked to perfection and had great flavors. What is keeping me from giving this spot 5 stars, is it is pretty pricey. I would expect larger portion sizes especially for paying $30+ for a pasta dish. Our whole family spent a relaxed afternoon at Navy Yard with no particular plans, and we were delighted to discover this restaurant for dinner. Located right along the river, the outdoor seating offers spectacular waterfront views. We ultimately chose to dine inside because the interior felt authentically Italian--warm, inviting, and beautifully designed. We had a preference for a specific table, and the staff accommodated our request quickly and graciously. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was fantastic. My kids absolutely devoured their spaghetti, which is always a great sign! My salmon was perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. My husband ordered the Tagliata and couldn't stop talking about how tender and flavorful it was. Came for $15 Pasta on Monday and left truly satisfied! I've lived nearby for 5 years and not sure why I haven't eaten here until now! The calamari and insalata romana were really good and fresh (forgot to take a pic!) Service was great, their happy hour looks good, but only at the bar area so we opted to sit outside. We came here for the special Monday night deal of $15 pasta! We got the focaccia to share and I ordered the gramigna. The focaccia was incredible, would order it again. The gramigna was decent, it wasn't too flavorful and nothing really stood out about it. My wife's mushroom ragu pasta was excellent though. The food also came out very quickly, but it took almost 10 minutes for our server to come to our table initially, and my glass of wine also came out about 5 minutes after the food, almost 20 minutes after I ordered it. I would come back on a Monday but I don't think I'd pay full price for the pastas with that kind of service. read more

Can't believe I haven't left a review yet..but osteria Moroni is my go to lunch after my monthly facial around the corner and I love it! The pasta is made in house (and you can tell) and the sauces are so flavorful! The carbonara breakfast pasta and the tagliatalia are my favorites! I always have the same bartender since I normally sit at the bar, and he offers great recommendations based on what I want and makes the perfect mimosa! I've been here twice now. Once for a pasta making class and again for restaurant week. First the surrounding area is beautiful. After eating we walked along the water at sunset and that was pleasant. Parking wise, there's garages and a lot of you can take the metro and walk about 8 min from Navy Yard station. Now let's get to the food: I ordered the calamari as my entree and for one person it was pretty filling. I really enjoyed it, I thought it was fresh and the batter was nice and crunchy. I ordered the casarecce for my main course which wasn't anything to ride home about. I thought the pesto was pretty fresh but I wasn't wowed. Now for dessert, I clearly didn't read and ordered the torta di oilo not realizing it's the chocolate one. Now I'm not a fan of chocolate cake but figured I'd try it to see if my tastebuds have changed. And, no.... I talked to the waiter and he was gracious enough to offer the panna cotta instead which was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the graham crackers on top which added a nice texture to it. We stumbled into Happy Hour at Osteria Morini, and wow, what a great experience. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The cocktails were perfectly crafted. We had two of the five items listed on the Happy Hour Menu, and we ate every delicious crumb of the brussell sprouts (with pistachios) and the little meatballs. My friends and I saw a video about the morini pancakes and were intrigued at the thought of ordering a brunch of savory and sweet pancakes - they did not disappoint. We arrived Sunday right at opening at 11 AM. We had a reservation but didn't really need it since we came at opening and we were the first ones in. We immediately ordered the misticanza which came out pretty quickly and was delicious - first time trying a truffle vinaigrette and while you could definitely taste the truffle, I don't think it was overpowering. I ordered a latte and it was solid, nothing to write home about. We ordered the diavola pancake and the tiramisu pancake pretty quickly after we ordered the salad but it took 45 minutes for them to come out so we were getting pretty antsy for them. The diavola was our favorite - the Calabrian chili honey was soooo delicious with the pancake (which was a touch sweet for our tastes), the prosciutto, and the poached egg. The tiramisu was also delicious but quite heavy since it has all the flavors of tiramisu combined with the denseness of not just a regular pancake, but a ricotta pancake. I think what we ordered was perfect for three people - if you're ravenous or really want to take home leftovers, I'd suggest three pancakes. At the end of the meal we paid in inKind and I noticed our server comped my latte (we figure because of the wait) which was appreciated. Will definitely be back to try more! I loved this place. When I first tried it and tried their bucatini I was astounded. Best pasta I ever had to the point I ordered 2 and ate the other when I got home . The staff is so kind and when my dish was accidentally served with almonds, they removed BOTH dishes from the check. That's truly quality service and caring about your customer. Unfortunately since the first few times of going (and not being able to stop talking about it for weeks) they've changed their bucatini recipe and I'm sorely underwhelmed. The new pasta used is too hard and didn't soak up the sauce. It wasn't the buttery, creamy flavors I'm used to. I did give it one more try to see if it was a fluke, but the pasta still did not meet the standards they initially set. Look at the before and after & you'll be able to clearly see the difference. Came here for happy hour and I did not like it at all. It was super packed, which is fine, but they didn't seem to be adequately staffed. There was one bartender serving the whole bar and then another serving the service bar. The problem is that the guy at the service bar kept interrupting the guy working the bar, and then they would sit there and chat as if there wasn't a whole entire busy bar full of people waiting for assistance. The bar was also filthy. Dirty cups and plates all over. I believe they serve popcorn to everyone at the bar too, but I never received any. Drinks were awful. I tried the Hugo Spritz and Spicy Margarita. They were both overwhelmingly sweet and nasty. I haven't tasted drinks that bad in a while. I settled on a glass of lambrusco, which was just okay. This spot is one of the best restaurants I've been to and I think might be verrryyyy underrated Cute spot on the water I have no complaints about the ambiance. Nothing extravagant, but a nice casual place you can dress up or down at. We did the chef's special pasta tastings which was 4 little servings of the chef's choice pastas-- which for us this night was the tortelli, rigatoni, paglia e fieno, and the cappelletti I can't tell you which was my favorite. They were ALL so delicious, and even the ones where I wouldn't personally choose myself, were still so so good. They did not miss with anything for dinner. We also got the chicken cacciatore and the potatoes were SO PERFECT. Crispy on the outside, but not hard or crunchy, and soft on the inside. Sheesh. And THEENNNN to top it all off we had the bombolini for dessert (which comes with the pasta tastings) and oh my lordddd those we so good. I had excellent food and good service at Osteria Morini. Highly recommend. I visited on a Friday at 5:15 and had a drink at the bar before dinner at 6 PM. They recently updated their happy hour menu (3 PM - 7 PM bar only, gratis popcorn, $7 drafts, cocktails, house spirit + mixer, and 1/2 off glass wine). The bar was mostly full, with a lone seat available and a few open high tops nearby (which I think count as bar for HH purposes). It only got more full from there, with a bustling, standing crowd just after 6 PM, but it settled down later. The bartender was helpful but busy, the house whiskey + soda good (they use Four Roses, I'm told), but I did have to ask for the popcorn. The dining room filled up pretty quickly, entirely full by about 7 PM. For dinner, I had the pasta tasting: four small pastas plus dessert for $55. Apparently, they just changed their menu to offer this only on Tues, Weds, Thurs, and Sunday. This was noted on the dinner menu I got at my table, but is not noted on their website menu or the paper dinner menu I perused at the bar. We asked, and they made an exception and still served us the pasta tasting -- maybe because it was still early in the night and because it was a recent menu change. We saw the table next to us got the same. The pasta tasting is an excellent value. The portions were much larger than I expected; we had plenty for leftovers and I wish I saved more room for dessert. I really appreciate that they coursed out the pasta and also split it up for us so we didn't have to share bowls. We got two pastas for an appetizer course (split into four total bowls), then two for an entree course (same), then dessert (one for each of us). The chef picks the pastas, but we were told what they would be in advance, and we picked the desserts. The chef picked the rigatoni with mushroom ragu, the paglia e fieno with roasted cauliflower, tagliatelle with traditional bolognese ragu, and bucatini with shrimp and pesto. All of them were delicious. I would give the edge to the paglia e fieno (a delightful mix of green and white pasta) and we didn't like the bucatini quite as much, but I would happily eat all four again. I would have liked the bucatini more with thicker pesto. The two with red sauce were solid and not overly spicy, which I liked. For dessert, the chocolate olive oil cake got high marks from my companion and I loved the affogato sundae. It was three large scoops of gelato plus toppings; it was ill advised for me to eat the whole thing, but I did. I also had glasses of the lambrusco which was perfectly fine. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful explaining the pasta options. The atmosphere was lively but not too loud or distracting. High marks all around. read more

Food was popular with the group but the dining room atmosphere could improve. Came in Saturday evening with some friends for dinner wine and a few desserts. The food was a win across the table, the wine list was also solid and the after dinner drink availability of grappa was a hit with one of our party... not for me. But I did enjoy the port. Saturdays in this neighbourhood can be a bit loud generally and this dining room does not do much to quiet the noise. There was also an electrical or lighting issue causing the dimmed overhead lights to flicker throughout the evening. I dream about the Parmigiano gelato and the cappelletti. The Parmigiano gelato is one of the best cheeses I've ever had and one of the many reasons I keep spending all my money to eat here. The cappelletti is perfection, with pillowy pasta filled with truffled ricotta in a buttery sauce that I could eat forever. My boyfriend and I have gone here for several date nights and with friends, and we always love it. The food is consistently amazing, the staff is warm and attentive, and the whole vibe is always on point. A few times we've been, there's been live music, other times it's just soft jazz in the background, which adds to the classy feel. Also don't even get me started on the waterfront views! If the weather's nice, definitely ask to sit by the window or outside. Everything about this place is great and it's easily one of my favorite restaurants in DC. A true gem. read more

Popped in here on a Sunday afternoon for some brunch. I arrived 30 minutes after they opened so it was pretty dead. The cold and dreary weather also played a part. I opted to sit a the bar and was greeted by a friendly bartender. I sampled 2 different types of mimosas and decided on a pasta dish for my meal. I originally came for the truffle ravioli but decided to try something different. I chose the Gramigna and this may be my new favorite thing! It's a pasta dish made with sausage and it was delicious! It reminded me of a sausage version of beefaroni. The curly pasta and excellently seasoned sausage with the cream sauce was so great! The food and drinks were great but I really enjoyed speaking with the staff and learning about their other locations and some of their pasta specials they have! This is (at least so far!) my favorite Italian restaurant in the DC area, and I've recommended it an untold amount of times at this point -- not to mention I've introduced several people to it personally as well. (I not-so-secretly wish they had an ambassador/superfan program or something because I'd have made mad commission at this point if so!) The pasta is among the best I've had. It's always so, so perfectly cooked, the flavors are good, and the Morini Monday special is a steaaaal. My personal favorites are the mushroom rigatoni and the gramigna. The service in the past has generally been wonderful too. I've been here for occasions before and they do a great job making them special. Osteria Morini is located in the Yards Park in DC along the Anacostia River and has an undeniable interior design and atmosphere. It's brightly lit with natural light during the day and dark and moody at night. I came with a group of 5 on a Friday night and the service was quick, attentive, and spot on. Our wait staff did a great job taking our orders, accomodating a couple specific dietary restrictions, and honestly went above and beyond to notify individuals which of the appetizers brought to the table had what allergen in it. The only downside for Osteria Morini was that several of the dishes we had that night were salted beyond belief. The calamari was heavily salted and eating each piece was a mini roulette game of too salty or just right. When it came to our pasta dishes that came out, both orders of Paglia e Fieno were just as overly salted as the calamari. The major downside was that it was in every bite. We could tell that the Paglia e Fieno had great flavors, but it was just so hard to taste anything beyond the salt. I, sadly, did not say anything to the wait staff about the salt, and I do regret staying silent. However, I am willing to try Osteria Morini again next time I'm in Navy Yard. read more

I had brunch at Osteria Morini with some friends this weekend after hearing about their savory pancakes. We were greeted warmly by staff and received the salad (satisfying, if a little barebones for $15) promptly. However, it took 50 minutes to receive our pancakes (we arrived at 11 am and received them just around noon). People who were seated after us received their full meals while we waited. There were only two other parties in the restaurant, so not sure what caused this, and while they kept our drinks refilled, it did take away from the experience. Luckily, the diavolo (a ricotta pancake topped with prosciutto, calabrian chili and honey sauce, and a poached egg) was absolutely excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed its mix of sweet and savory elements, and the egg was great. The tiramisu pancake was lacking something - we didn't taste any of the classic coffee flavor, so it was a bit one-note and also didn't really have enough elements in the topping to really shine; it was like whipped cream on a plain pancake - no real taste of cocoa or coffee at all. It was overly bland/sweet as a result, but still fluffy, rich and quite tasty. I would stick to the savory ones next time. The pancakes are large; we took some home even sharing 2 pancakes among 3 people. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend the savory pancakes for sure if you're at this spot for brunch. Always on the hunt for fresh pasta, my wife and I found ourselves drawn to the handmade pasta menu at Navy Yard's Osteria Morini. We made a reservation for peak, Saturday dinner hours and were met with a bustling outdoor patio and loud, dark indoor dining space. The interior of the restaurant feels more like an old steakhouse than a modern Italian place, so consider the outdoor patio with great views of the water if you plan on dining here. Our server touched our table almost immediately upon being seated and took our order shortly thereafter. We started with the fried chicken and the octopus appetizer. The chicken arrives coated in a light and crispy semolina crust. The nuggets of meat remain juicy and pair perfectly with both the Calabrian chili honey and mustard aioli sauces served alongside. The skimpy portion of the octopus appetizer disappointed, but the tentacles themselves were tender and the tangy chickpea accompaniment made for a welcome burst of flavor. Our pastas took a little longer than expected to arrive, but we were in no rush. Osteria Morini makes all of their noodles in house, and the textures of both of our pastas were superb. While the pappardelle itself possessed a silky, toothsome bite, the lamb ragu served alongside was bland and stingily portioned. Furthermore, the addition of undercooked peas and carrots felt rudimentary. In contrast, the gramigna not only possessed quality, springy, and uniquely shaped noodles, but also brought a rich, intense white sausage ragu with a surprising amount of sharp flavor balanced with an appropriate hit of acid. That dish acted as the easy favorite of the night and contrasted strongly to the basic, suboptimally executed lamb pappardelle. Both the manager and our waiter noticed the lag time between our appetizers and mains, and offered a complimentary dessert for the service lapse. This was a, excuse the pun, sweet touch that enhanced the overall great service experience. We opted for the tiramisu which offered an ideal, lush creamy texture balanced by a strong coffee backbone. Our bill totaled about $100 pre tip. We ate our fill (even without the dessert), though felt only so-so value given the small protein portions in some of the dishes. Overall, Osteria Morini is a decent option for fresh pasta dishes in the Navy Yard area. The food and value make for a 3.5 star rating, though thoughtful service bumps my rating to a solid 4 stars. read more

Definitely recommend this restaurant. We came out for a girls night before Army 10 miler and needed some pasta! Everything was served hot, flavorful & delicious! The vibe inside is classy but outside is a little more laid back with water views and ambient music (ours was reggae). Guillermo and the rest of the wait staff were excellent. My friends and I ordered the crispy cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, rigatoni, Campanella (squid ink) pasta, the capatelli, and the bolognese. We were all very pleased with our respective dishes. Have been coming here year after year and it really missed the mark this time. Service was poor in that what we ordered wasn't what we received for dessert. While it was a simple mistake of getting the flavors of sorbetto wrong it was just another example of not paying attention. Appetizers took a half hour to come to the table. Yes, the manager came by and apologized and even went so far to take the cost off the bill but the appetizer was way off. Calamari was very oily and the aioli was nothing but mayonnaise. No flavor at all. The bread was very good. Dinners were sub par. The shrimp and pasta were scant on shrimp and they were very tough... way over cooked. Also, serving food in old dishes that are chipped is a big deal in my book. I went to the restroom and the whole place seemed dirty. Trashy bathroom, kitchen staff on their phones, food prep stations (fryers) unkempt and out of order. This is one of the kitchens that you can walk by and watch them cook. So I would expect the place to be on point. When I watch the cooks eating on the line during business hours yet appetizers were delayed and made poorly it seems to be a bigger issue. Enough little trash laying on the floors and dirty windows that it made me feel uneasy. This was on an evening when the place was dead. I mean dead. Outside tables weren't squared away and cleaned. Just a general malaise and apathy. Not sure I'll come back considering how far it seems they have fallen and the amount of other places available. read more

We really enjoyed our lunch at this spot. We visited during a festival and sat outside at one of the many tables on the terrace. The service was a little mixed, but friendly. The food was tasty for our Saturday brunch and definitely on the heavier side! But hey, this is a pasta joint. We ordered the burrata, tagliatelle, and the meatballs, which came with a side of bread. The adults loved the burrata, which was served with chopped apples marinated in vinaigrette dressing. The kids loved the bread (obviously) and the pasta. There isn't any pizza at this place and they don't offer a kids menu. But overall, this seemed like a good spot to bring kids, at least on a Saturday afternoon. My partner's family loves coming here before a Nats game. This was my first time visiting and enjoyed the experience. I'd come back and would love to see if the dinner menu is more extensive than brunch. read more

Overall, solid food. Pastas are rather pricey, so I'd recommend to go on Mondays for $15 pasta (or during government shutdown when everyday is $15 pasta for federal workers). My partner and I had: - Rosemary & sea salt focaccia - excellent focaccia, albeit a bit salty (lots of sea salt on top and salty butter melted throughout). Nonetheless, it was very flavorful, and the accompanying butter was incredible. The texture was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. - Tortelli - tasty and filling ossobuco (veal) tossed in a very rich and hearty saffron butter, barolo sugo, and gremolata. So rich and buttery that I felt full eating after a few pieces. It does get rather too heavy and "old" (taste was the same throughout every bite), so I needed a refreshing kick from a different dish, which brings me to below... - Pappardelle - ahh, so much more refreshing and lighter than tortelli! I was glad for this dish, which balanced out the heavy tortelli in terms of flavor and texture. The meat didn't impress me, but the pasta was fresh and excellent, and the mint and peas added some refreshing change to the texture. read more
