I only ever stop by here whenever I'm going to an event at the convention center and don't want to pay for overpriced under-flavored convention food nor fight the scores of illegal food truck mafia members with their unlisted prices, I always seem to forget about it otherwise. But maybe that's better for them too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can order to-go at the window and/or request a spot in the limited spaced dining/bar area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've only gotten the Sub Club the few times I've gone here but what can I say? its a fail proof staple that is hard to get wrong and that they do very right. I often pair it with one of their drinks, this time being the spicy ginger ale which was solid as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's really not much place to dine-in if you're trying to dine and go - I recommend only using the dining area if you're solo, a couple, or part of a small group (at MOST maybe - a hard maybe - on 4 people) and only if you want to use the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One couple tried to squeeze in a baby stroller into the bar/dining area. Its really not suitable for things like suitcases or strollers so if you're in that camp maybe try some other spots because that also made a tiny space all the more difficult to navigate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, if you have a mobility device, this might not be the best spot for you either. I've never used their restrooms before so can't comment on that one. I still will say it is good for when you want to grab and go - so if you're in that category, and you like moderately priced sandwiches (for this part of town) this might work for you. read more

This place was way better than I could've imagined. I really enjoyed every single item I ate here. Upon entering you can either order to go or wait to be seated. It only took about 10mins for us to get a little window spot with a great view. The RPG was killer. So so so so good. Second to that were the Cacio e Pepe fries. I'd recommend ordering at least 2 of them as they go fast lol. Everything else was great too but those were my standouts. I'm currently on a sober spell so I didn't try any of the cocktails but did get a hot ginger ale. I will definitely comeback to try the cocktails though. read more

We had a gift certificate to Your Only Friend. Glad we did! This spot is a gem! Get here early because the seats will fill up! The RPG was a bit heavy on the mayo, next time would ask for less mayo but it was still delicious as a char su pork fan. This hit the mark. The fish sandwich was tangy and spicy which made it delicious. It was a bit messy and the bun didn't hold up great but that didn't detract from the flavors. Wanted a quick meal near my hotel from a conference. This place had a bib and some interesting sandwiches. I got the hot nug and Cacio e Pepe fries. I ordered to go and it was quick. The food was good. The hot nug sandwich had a nice tangy taste. Not too spicy and was very manageable. I'd had lived more spicy but the flavors were still very satisfying. The fries were great too. What a fun place! We were in town for the weekend, found this place online and decided to check it out for dinner since it was around the corner from our hotel. So glad we did! The service was great from the host who seated us to our fantastic server who made some great suggestions. When is a sandwich not just a sandwich? When you have a sandwich from Your Only Friend. It was a hot and sunny day and I was down near the convention center for a conference. I didn't want to eat at the hotel, so I checked my Yelp app and saw that there is a sandwich spot nearby. I decided to walk a few blocks and try it out. I was glad I did! It's a very unassuming place where you can sit down and have a lunch or dinner or you can get it to go. I decided to get mine to go. I was greeted by friendly cashier. She asked if it was my first time there and I said yes. She explained how the ordering process works and explained a little about each sandwich. I decided to try the RBG, which was $18. I believe all sandwiches are $18. I was a little surprised by the price, but I wanted to try it. The RBG is delicious pork sandwich with coleslaw and a soft, yet crunchy bread. Don't get me wrong. I am not a crunchy bread sandwich type of girly. But this bread was just right for this sandwich. I had the ability to eat the entire sandwich with the bread not becoming too soggy and falling apart. The pork was tender and flavorful, the slaw was crunchy and tart. It was a wonderful combination. The only negative thing that I have to say is that it is a really large sandwich! MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT. Horrific service. Solid but not life-changing food. Saw this restaurant on a YouTube Eater channel video about their chicken parm sandwich. Looked amazing. Restaurant vibe looked great. And Michelin rated? Sign me up. So I went there with my wife and another couple for my wife's birthday on a Friday night. Arrived shortly after 7:05. It was busy, but not like the line was out the door. It's not a big dining area, but we were told it would probably be 25 minutes to get seated when we got to the front window to order. We placed our orders around 7:12. 4 sandwiches and two sides. Guy rang it all up; even showed us the order on the screen. We also each ordered a drink to enjoy while we waited the purported 25 minutes. But then we kept waiting. Finished our drinks. Waited. Then two of us ordered another. Finished those. More waiting. Next thing we knew we had been standing in the small waiting/ordering area for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Finally, we flagged down one of the waitresses/servers/hosts (its unclear exactly what her title would be). We asked if there was any sense of when we might be seated. She said it was really tough to say, that she knew we had been waiting for a while, but it was basically just a tough night and just kind of walked off. Another 10 minutes pass and we try to flag her again to see if, at this point, it would be more practical just to convert our order to a to-go order and just eat it elsewhere. She couldn't answer and mid-thought just walked off. We were left hanging and just confused. Finally, a solid 1 hour and 40 minutes after ordering, we were told our table was available and asked if we still wanted it. What? Yes we still wanted it! We sat down and the same server/waitress woman asked if we would like to order or if we had ordered at the window previously. We said we had ordered previously, some 1 hour and 45 minutes prior. She sauntered off. Another 10 minutes or so go by, and we begin wondering why she would have asked that. We hadn't heard from anyone else at this point and we start getting nervous that maybe our food was not imminently on its way. So we flag her down again and ask if our order had in fact been placed. IT HAD NOT. She then slunk away and sent the man taking the orders at the window to see us, who explained that he had canceled our food order when we placed our drinks. Wait, what? He just failed to tell us? It made no sense. At this point I was visibly frustrated. He asked if we still wanted to eat. We said yes and ordered our same order, again. From that point on, we basically didn't hear anything from anyone. Sure, the food came out relatively quickly after that point. But no words from the server/runners. Not even any eye contact. Like they were embarrassed and couldn't face the group they had clearly messed up on. Finally, about 2 hours and 15 minutes after we first got there, we got our food. Again, no apology, no "We are really sorry about the confusion" or "how about another drink on us" or anything. Just a sheepish dropping off of the food and slinking away. As for the food itself, the sides were solid (fries and onion rings). Nothing life-changing, but a good and fun changeup from the classic versions. The sandwiches were mixed. The chicken nug was solid but unspectacular. The chicky pep was very good. My wife's spicy panes was exceedingly wet. She ate about three bites. All in all, it was uneven but generally pretty good. Given that we had spent nearly three hours there at this point, we were eager to leave. Asked for a to go box and the check. We got the to go box. Another 5 minutes before we had to get someone's attention to bring us the check. I'm not usually that guy, but I figured after such horrible service--telling us it would be a 25 minute wait when it was in fact a 1 hour and 40 minute wait, cancelling our order without telling us, and then basically ghosting our table over a roughly three-hour night--they would have thought maybe, just maybe, we should do something to make up for it. But no. No "can we bring you a drink" or "how about desert on us" or anything. Just an unapologetic full bill. Whatever. All in all, one of the sandwiches was great. One was good. One was underwhelming. The sides were solid. The service was terrible and the overall experience was brutal. I wouldn't go back. read more

After a local convention, my girlfriend recommended checking out this spot for dinner, and I am so glad she did. They are known for their sandwiches and there are just a few high tops to eat at. It was full when we arrived, so we had to wait about 10 minutes to go back there, but we were able to order food in the meantime. We got a sandwich, appetizer, and dessert. Hilariously enough, the dessert came first, and we just held on to it until the other things came. The dessert of the day was this grasshopper pie -- yes, a mint ganache with a chocolate pie crust... But we couldn't eat it yet. Our appetizer, the beet salad, arrived. I didn't read the ingredients, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they used golden beets. We got that right before they called us into the bar area. We got settled dove right in. The flavor of the beet salad was exceptional, and it had a kick to it! As we we're finishing that, our sandwich, the RPG arrived. This is a roast pork sandwich with garlic mayo, duck sauce, bok choy, and more. I was floored by how wonderfully all the flavors went together. It was so delicious! Now the drinks.... Creative, elevated, the reason I like to come out to cocktail bars. I ordered my phone online for takeout. There is metered street parking available, but parking is tight. I had to make a spot and run in and get my food. They have a take out/togo area with some seating along the window overlooking the sidewalk. Just off of that is a dining area. My interaction with them was very limited but the staff was friendly enough. My order was ready when I got there and I picked it up and was back on my way. The restaurant serves some very unique sandwiches and also has a unique selection of fries. I ordered the RPG sandwich, with a side of cacio e pepe fries. The fries were very good. Wow oh wow, this place is amazing!!! Tucked away in DC you'll find Your Only Friend. A small place with big flavor and a very deserving addition to the DC Michelin guide. The inside is small but it's very comfortable, large windows in the front of the restaurant fill the bar area with light. It's decorated in a way that's hard to describe. Lots of wood, almost feels like the Brady bunch. I'm not saying that in a negative , it's just very unique. Service is perfect. They make you feel like you been there a millions times. Quick service and great conversation!! Forget everything else, you're going here for the food. Everything we had was amazing. A couple highlights were definitely the pimento cheese, miso Chex mix. The sandwich was also amazing, although my hot fish sandwich was a little off, nothing that ruined the meal. This a great place, highly recommended going here. This is the second consecutive weekend I've come up from outside the city, and they've been sold out before 3PM. Increase your supply if you're going to create a demand for it. I just happened to walk by and noticed that they were selling a char siu sandwich! By 7:30PM on Sunday, several of their sandwiches had sold out so make sure you come earlier if there's something in particular you want to try. I ordered takeout but it looks like there's plenty of seating inside and could be a fun place to just grab some drinks and chill. Came here for a quick weekend lunch between nails and hair appointment. I was able to sit, have a drink, order and eat half a sandwich, and pay - all in about 45min. I sat at the bar, and there were maybe 7ish tables. The bartender/server (Maria) was so kind and friendly. She recommended the Panes sandwich (which was later reaffirmed by another cute male employee). The martini was good, but not dirty enough for me (it is called clean/dirty so maybe that's why). The sandwich was delicious and filling, I ended up eating the second half for dinner. My only thing was the bread was kinda meh, basic boring; also the sandwich is cold... Tried Your Only Friend for the first time this past weekend and I'm already planning my next visit. Wow! I had to check this place out while I was rooting around for lunch spots when I was attending a conference next door. To my surprise there were several places next to the convention center with writeups in the Michelin Guide, I had to be there! I was a little confused when I came in. There is a counter you can order at and then a dining room with a sign that says to check in at the counter to be seated. When I went to the counter she told me to just go right into the dining room. It's not huge, but there are tables wrapped around a bar. It has a very upscale feel compared to the counter service room. My waitress was very nice and left a large glass of water that I could fill my own cup with - which was great since I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. My orange cream soda cocktail arrived quick. It was mentioned in the Michelin Guide and sounded delicious and oh my did it love up to the hype! Do I love the fact that I was day drinking? No. But after tasting this delicious concoction I was able to sit more with that initial discomfort. Next up, my side of Seattle Fries arrived. The French fries themselves were perfect. Perfectly crisp in all the right places. The topping? Don't even get me started. Asian fusion fries with furikake and the most delicious sauces- I can't recommend it enough. I guzzled that jug of water down no problem. I feel like I can't do the review justice since it was much too hot for me, but the chicken itself was good, as were the other sauces and the soft bun. The bottom line is definitely get the onion rings... They're probably some of the best onion rings I've ever had! They stay perfectly crispy and the breading does not come off from the onion. Service was fine. I ordered at the counter not realizing there's a separate dining room. The woman who took my order was not overly friendly and relatively short when I had questions about the menu. Ultimately, I decided on the club sub which was an elevated turkey sandwich. It was delicious but definitely a splurge for what it is. Normally I am a huge fan of posting pictures with my reviews but unfortunately I was too busy enjoying my drink and good that my camera did not get a chance to eat first. First off the names and descriptions of the drinks are incredible. Huge fan of the Gin and Pickle juice drink. Love both separate and never thought of putting them together, what a mistake that was cause I absolutely loved my drink. Second, the food. OMG the food. I got the Thanksgiving Sandwich and it was outstanding. There were like six other sandwiches I wanted to order and I can't wait to try. I legitimately had to stop myself from ordering delivery from them the very next day. Do not sit on this place. Seriously drop what you are doing and go NOW.
