I couldn't tell how noisy it gets because there weren't many customers when we were there for brunch last week, which is too bad as the food is really good and not unreasonably priced. We had the very large breakfast burrito and the garden vegetable shakshuka. Both were excellent; delivered hot and were well seasoned. The coffee is strong but not acidic. One of my new friends lives at the Wharf so there is literally something to do all day, every day! Fish Shop was in my bookmarks and I had mentioned this a few times but never came. He literally picked everything around the Wharf but this place. One morning after getting his boat docked, before heading this is condo, I said let's go to Fish Shop. I guess I know why he never wanted to come. The place is never packed and I know why. We got a few things for brunch and the fish came out raw. Charbroiled Oysters were good. I wouldn't return. I had such a great happy hour at Fish Shop in 2025 that I'd been dying to return for a proper dinner. This past weekend, I finally returned for dinner with a couple of friends after a show at Arena Stage. The restaurant is still stunning. We sat outside to enjoy the Wharf/water views and the summer weather. The food was still great, too. We shared lots of dishes: a half dozen oysters; tempura fried squash blossoms filled with Maryland crab and cream cheese; an heirloom tomato salad with feta and fried shallots; Massaman curry with fragrant herbs, housemade roti, and the fish of the day; a beautiful halibut dish; and a candied Virginia peanut tiramisu. Everything was tasty, but the entrees really blew my mind - beautiful and delicious. We also each had a glass or two of wine, and they have a great wine list. The service was very friendly, but at some point during our early dinner (our reservation was for 5pm), they got busy and our server disappeared a bit as he got busier. The Fish Shop is visually stunning. The food was enjoyable, the only thing is, I wish they had more options offering a mix of traditional sides with their creative dishes. It is pricey, lucky for me it was my birthday and I could simply enjoy myself. My cocktail was exquisite, forgot what it was called but reminded me of a pina colada, but not as thick. The flavor and the freshness of the Whole fried fish, with fragrant herbs, tamarind and lime dressing was good. The Parker House Rolls were fluffy, but nothing I would put on the highly recommended list. Our waiter was very kind and personable. Other than that, I'm not sure if I would come back. Most people enjoy Caribbean style restaurants that master various fish for a fraction of the price and more food. However, when I wanted to place an order of oysters as an app while we looked over the menu I was told we had to order all food at once due to the back up in the kitchen. Wonderful pre-show dinner the other night with my BF. We made a reservation a couple of days in advance. No trouble getting a table; we had to be there early. Our server was excellent. The ambiance bright and cheerful -- an upscale seafood place complete with an upscale, creative nautical theme. The food was great and came out fairly quickly, though we didn't feel rushed. With all the hype, we had to try the Maryland crab "crumpet," a tiny (maybe the size of a silver dollar ‍), toasty, round cranny-toast that had a decent amount of crab on top, though at $9 *each*, we couldn't decide if it was worth it. The crab was spiced nicely, though. One of our fave dishes was recommended by the server -- the tilefish kinilaw, a ceviche-adjacent blend of chopped light white fish, red onion, cucumber, mango (I think), & chives blended in coconut broth. YUM! It was served in a dish with lettuce cups, an interesting vessel for the fish-yumminess. We also shared a beet & berry salad with crunchy, candied pecans with a yogurt dressing. Yum! The entree (we shared) was surprisingly really good - another rec from our server -- the Massaman fish curry with fresh herbs & house-made, grilled roti, an interesting naan-like bread that proved great vessel for scooping up the decadent curry gravy. YUM! We also shared a Caesar salad with garlic croutons. It was good; nothing terribly special, but good. Really great meal. Great service. Great ambiance. We'll definitely be back. My best friend and I decided to go here to celebrate our birthdays and graduation. The place is very clean and nicely decorated. We ordered the shrimp hush puppies and Hawaiian poke. The shrimp hush puppies were just hush puppies; it was not worth the price. The Hawaiian poke looked beautiful, but was just okay. We ordered the lamb chops and curry. It took an HOUR for us to get our food. When it came my lamb chops definitely did not look like they were worth $60; they were extremely small and did not have a lot of meat on them. My best friend said her curry was fine, but it was nothing special. Our waiter was nice, but we often found ourselves trying to look for him and waiting for him to return to our table. The manager originally told us we could have our drinks free (a Shirley temple and a virgin mojito). We had to advocate for ourselves and ask for at least an appetizer off because we had waited an hour for our food. Overall, this place is nice for aesthetics but not for food quality and quantity. My best friend also asked for her food to be boxed and never received the boxed food. I visited The Fish Shop for the first time yesterday and left genuinely impressed on every level. One beautiful surprise, at least on Saturdays, is the farmer's market that sets up right out front, a gorgeous spread of fruit and vegetables you rarely see in a grocery store. It's a lovely thing to wander through before heading in to eat just a few feet away. The setting itself doesn't feel like Washington at all. With the charming little patio and relaxed vibe, you could imagine you're in another country, and it strikes a wonderful balance between easygoing and sophisticated. Little touches go a long way for me, and they nailed them here: silverware with the lovely illusion of polished silver and elevated stemware that added an extra bit of vibe to the whole experience. The staff were wonderfully accommodating from the start: everything was still soaked from the heavy rain the night before, but they went out of their way to set us up in a lovely shaded spot so we'd stay cool and comfortable. That same care showed up in a much bigger way later, when one of our party passed out from a health issue unrelated to the meal, and the team handled it with calm, attentiveness, and real heart. Now, the food. The brunch menu hits all the classics, chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict with fun variations featuring crab and smoked fish, all the good stuff. I settled on the lobster roll, which was incredibly good, served with Old Bay fries that came out perfectly hot and crisp, exactly the way fries should always arrive, with ketchup on the side. We also tried the tuna tartare and the buffalo oysters, which were a blast: fried oysters with a blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, served in the cutest presentation in shells on smooth lake pebbles. On the drinks side, I had a "Bloody Margaret," a gin-based riff on a Bloody Mary, and it was wonderfully spicy, just the way I like it. The cocktail list overall is playful and worth exploring. Oysters are clearly one of their fortes. They focus on Virginia oysters, so it's a single variety, but they do a lot with it across a range of preparations. Fish Shop is a recent addition to the Michelin guide for DC, and very well deserved. The restaurant is very open and filled with light from the floor to ceiling windows. It feels very open and comfortable. Decorated simply which leaves the food to do all the talking. We sat at the bar for brunch which to me was a great choice. The bartender was extremely friendly and a wealth of knowledge about the food and cocktails. The food came out quick, and the staff was extremely professional. The food is the star!!! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. Oysters were a highlight and although it sounds simple the peanuts were a highlight as well. Can't forget about the trout tartar either. The wharf on Valentine's Day was for one a horrible idea, but the Fish Shop was so accommodating when we called to mention we were struggling to find parking which is what was making us late. They held our reservation and were beyond understanding. Once seated we were greeted promptly and our questions answered. We did the Valentine's menu and I loved everything I had. Our server mentioned the items on the Valentine's menu wouldn't be a usual and that even things on the general menu can change. The seafood is very fresh and the menu really highlights that. They were also able to accommodate allergies and food preferences. We will definitely be back to try out other items. read more

The Fish shop has a lot of potential, but unfortunately the food lacks flavor. The catfish sandwich taste bland, over cooked and there's more bread and toppings than the fish. I had to removed a lot of the toppings, so I could taste or even see the small portion of the fish. I did enjoy the tuna tots and added a star for the Bartender drinks on this day. He's a true mixologist and can make anything. The drinks were strong and delicious. But unfortunately it will take more than $19 cocktails to survive at the Wharf or just in DC. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fish Shop on Washington's waterfront, and I have to say, it exceeded all my expectations. A friend tipped me off about this new spot, and given its origins from Scotland -- rumored to even have King Charles III as a fan -- I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. Plus, knowing it's run by Artfarm, the same high-powered art world hospitality group behind my favorite LA spot, Manuela, only made me more excited. From the moment we stepped inside, I was blown away. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with stunning art, including some pieces on loan from the Hauser & Wirth Gallery. Those colorful pom poms hanging from the ceiling are such a fun and vibrant touch -- it's like dining inside a living art installation. I appreciate how everything in the space, from furniture to decor, is locally sourced and eco-friendly. Even the tables are made from recycled yogurt lids, how cool is that? The staff couldn't have been more welcoming or attentive. They shared the restaurant's mission to support local artisans and sustainability, which honestly made the experience even more special. Now, onto the drinks--definitely a highlight! The Champagne A. Bergere Blanc de Blancs ($32 a glass) was worth every penny. It's pricey, but wow, what a way to start the evening. Later, I ordered their signature Hardy Negroni, topped with a large ice cube and little edible flowers. It was perfection -- balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented. But the real star of the night was the food. We kicked things off with the Maryland blue crab crumpet -- an addictive, one-bite snack that I had to hold myself back from ordering multiple rounds of. The grilled sourdough, served with whipped butter, was simple yet delicious. The blue crab salad, topped with apples and cucumbers and tossed in green goddess dressing, was stunning--served in a crab shell and displayed on a bed of ice and greens, making it almost too pretty to eat. For our main course, we shared the whole grilled fish, topped with butter and a baby leaf salad ($120 for two). The fish was deboned and prepared tableside, and I can honestly say it was some of the freshest, most tender seafood I've had--coming from someone who's notoriously picky about seafood. The portion was huge; we only managed half, so plenty for leftovers. Our sommelier recommended a glass of Sancerre from the Loire Valley ($24), which paired beautifully with the fish. She was spot-on with all her suggestions, including the Salt Mist cocktail--cucumber, lime, soda, and Arrete Blanco--surprisingly refreshing and perfectly balanced. No meal is complete without dessert, and Fish Shop delivered. My partner couldn't get enough of the citrus custard, and I was thrilled to see the Smith Island cake on the menu. I'm slightly obsessed with this layered yellow cake with chocolate frosting -- it's Maryland's official dessert for a reason. It's rich, decadent, and just the right ending to a fantastic meal. Overall, Fish Shop is an incredible addition to DC's waterfront scene. The combination of art, locally sourced everything, outstanding seafood, and creative cocktails makes it one of the best restaurants in the city right now. Fish Shop is getting some well-deserved publicity and it's clear why. This hidden gem has a beautiful view of the waterfront, a modern and sleek interior, and great bar. Staff were friendly and accommodating and it offers one of the best lunch specials that you can find in the city - a 3 course menu for $25. The food is heavily influenced by the Chesapeake region, locally sourced with an emphasis on sustainability, and pays homage to the region. Lunch was quiet and it's well worth the visit for a quick power lunch (in and out in under an hour). Dinner fills up quickly and they have a number of private dining rooms. Prices were really reasonable given the quality of food and portions. While this restaurant just opened in April, expect it to continue to draw bigger crowds as it continues to gain publicity and accolades. read more

I attended the soft opening of fish Shop last week and am looking forward to going back. Here's what we got: House baked bread, smoked trout crumpets, smoked trout with potatoes, Grilled striped bass, and hot bobo chicken. For desserts we finished with the ice cream and tiramisu. To drink we had both variations of martinis as well as two glasses of wine. Standouts were all of the starters and 'for the table items' as well as the martini with yuzu. Also, the desserts! The chocolate ice cream was perfectly balanced by the salt/olive oil, and I am usually not a tiramisu girl but this is a dessert I would go out of my way to get. The restaurant is beautiful and airy and perfectly tucked away at the Wharf. The only issue I had is that there was a mixup with my wine. I ordered the welschriesling and my waiter brought out Riesling instead. As he poured, I thought something was off because it wasn't orange as indicated on the menu, but he insisted it was the right bottle. A quick google search of the bottle proved otherwise but it was too late to change at that point. read more

There was plenty of bar space for happy hour, which goes until 6 with some drink specials and munchies. The crab hush puppies are pretty good. More hush puppy flavor than crab. My friend got the vege crudite with bean dip and liked it. The trout dip is fishy as is to be expected, some of the bread was burned and they charged for extra bread even though the server didn't quite make that clear. Both happy hour drinks were good. Disappointing. We were so thrilled to try Fish Shop for dinner. Our first time for brunch was good! Hence why we returned. But their dinner was beyond dissatisfying. So salty. Every single course. Borderline inedible. The raw oysters had this lemon grass slush on top? Which froze the oysters but even worse gave them a strange sweet taste. My dish was poached halibut, fish was alright besides also being over salted. But the turnips were genuinely inedible from salt. Clams were rubbery and didn't have tops. Who knows if they opened when steamed. We will not be back :/ 2 stars because our server was great. read more

The menu was lacking of meaningful options for a fish house. The frito misto mix of seafood was pathetically served as 6-7 small pieces of overcooked fish like objects. It is June, the peak of blue crab season and they didn't have an entree with blue crab. Very disappointed in the meal. I think the real takeaway is that on a warm Saturday night in June, half the tables were empty. That says a lot more than my review or those of others. read more

And my friends enjoyed the trout crumpets. Onto the next- my friend ordered the squid and loved it. Had a great sauce as well. Another friend got the crab and she said it was delicious. I got the oysters! And yall I love me some oysters. I got the tall timber oysters and I love me some oysters. And I loved these! For the mains our table ordered the black bass, the rockfish, the chicken and the roasted mushrooms. Thankfully I found parking on the street but there's a garage close by as. I always appreciate the opportunity to sit outside and the space was really nice, with a decent view of the marina. We started with the grilled sourdough which is 1000% a MUST! At $6 for two slices, it's not cheap, but it's delicious and the butter is clearly of the highest quality. It's probably my favorite part of the meal. The oysters were okay - we each had a gritty one and felt they were slimy. We were expecting something more like chargrilled oysters we experienced in New Orleans and were disappointed. I'm not sure if we expected the wrong thing or if they missed the mark. We shared the tile fish with orzo. It was nice, but nothing special. We liked the twice baked potatoes. We had planned on dessert but found ourselves too full. That was sad because there were several options we wanted to try. There was another issue with the bill (too complicated to explain), but it was made right and the manager came out to apologize. She tried to offer dessert and invited us back for a better experience. We explained that it wasn't necessary, but the gesture was nice. It's expensive for what you get, though probably on par for the area. Walked over to this restaurant soon after checking into my hotel. Walked up to the bar and was greeted by Kelsey. Let me just say the staff was AMAZING! The assistant manager is young and has a great sense of humor. I felt very welcomed, food overall was really good. I chose the chef's 5 course menu...my only gripe is that with one of the meals, it came with beans (chickpeas I believe) when to me needed more time to stew down and soften. The drinks were good, and again..Kelsey is a gem! Very knowledgeable, suggested good wines and the girl knows her music! Will definitely be back read more
