I personally really enjoyed their crab roll. They did not skimp out on the crab at all! At first glance, portions looked a bit small but everything was suuuper filling. Great service as well.

The atmosphere was relaxing, the staff made us feel welcome, and everything came out hot and fresh. The appetizers and drinks, hit the mark. A great spot to unwind, and I'll definitely be back for another happy hour.

    CAPE CODDER G&T

Great for a group. It was my friends birthday and they brought a complimentary blue cheese martini (kinda strange drink!). The clam chowder is pretty good. The Parker house rolls are warm, soft, fluffy heaven. They come with some kind of old bay whipped butter. My friends said the crab roll, fish sandwich, and burger were all good. I liked the cape codder g&t drink.

The food here was good. Not everything we ordered was great, but most of the stuff was good. I liked the selection of oysters. I loved the oyster shooter and the bloody mary. This is definitely a spot where you order seafood. All the seafood dishes were mostly good. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp and grits though. It was just a basic shrimp and grits. I didn't feel it was all the special. I ordered the fish sandwich as my main. It was okay. I wish it had more toppings in it. Maybe some more sauce would have tied the whole dish together. My husband got the breakfast sandwich. I would not get this next time. The sausage was overpowering the whole sandwich. Next time I go back, I would stick to the oysters and the drinks. A good location right by the water and the service is good!

This spot was discovered during a walk along the river and happened to be extremely busy at the time. Outdoor seating was full, so indoor seating was offered instead, which turned out to be a comfortable and pleasant alternative. The lobster roll was flavorful, though the bun-to-lobster ratio leaned more toward bread than filling (those who know, know). It was also served cold, which was a bit unexpected. The oysters were enjoyable, especially when paired with fresh lemon. They weren't the freshest or most premium selection, and the pricing felt high for the portion size and quantity served, but they were still decent overall.

This was my first time visiting Salt Line and im a little upset about it. I enjoyed everything about this place. I came in with a couple friends while waiting to head over to the Nats game, and we ordered a bunch of apps for all of us to pick at. The only thing I felt like needs to be served with something on the side was the potatoes. The were good but could use little something to elevate them. Whatever the sauce that comes the carrots or the Brussel sprouts both would be the perfect addition for the potatoes. This place is a definite check out if are in the area.

    Rockfish dish was just OK

Not my favorite meal during my week long stay in DC. Their menu is limited and mainly seafood which is normally fine for me, but I did find myself not really settling on a dish until the last server recommendation (who was great by the way) which is not common. I settled on the rockfish dish which was just OK. Definitely an Asian taste to it that wasn't my favorite. The setting is nice as it's right by the Nationals stadium. Probably wouldn't come back tho cause I didn't see anything else on the menu that I would really want.

Came here to enjoy the warm weather at their outdoor bar. We got the waterman's platter which was great- a surprisingly good amount of shrimp too. The bartenders were all great and brought a good vibe. We didn't try any oysters this time, but they have a variety featured on ice at their indoor bar.

I loved the fish sandwich. It's made with catfish and the batter is crispy, not beer battered which I prefer. Make sure to ask for tartar sauce!

Dropped in for dinner looking for good clam chowder and onion rings. Got seated right away and server came right away and explained the specials and the oysters. She accommodated my request for a small caesar's salad by removing the shrimp from their menu item. The chowder has no flour which made the chowder thin. There was nice portion of clams and good flavor. It could have had more clam flavor IMHO. I would still recommend it. The salad was really well dressed and tangy. The onion rings were nice and crispy, large portion of onions.

    Waterman's Platter, $36

I've visited the Salt Line a few times over the years. I like the food, nautical decor, and location in Navy Yard next to the river. On my recent visit, I stopped by on a Wednesday at 6 PM. The place was pretty quiet since it was mid-week and there weren't any sports games nearby. We had some wine ($14/glass), stuffies (3 for $13), Waterman's Platter ($36), and Scallops (5 for $36). Everything was very good. The scallops were served with a nice autumnal sauce and brussel sprouts. Waterman's Platter was fried oysters, fish, baby shrimp, and scallops along with fries, onion rings, coleslaw, and dipping sauce. Everything was crispy and nicely fried. The portal was large enough to take about half as leftovers. We were celebrating a special occasion and they brought over two small glasses of sparkling wine (basically half a glass each), which was nice but also a bit tacky to not give a full glass. Like, I would rather you just verbally acknowledge it and do nothing than take a half-measure like that. We had a nice time but a few things could have been better. They were out of the beer I ordered, so I went with wine. The free sparkling was originally on our bill (and billed as a single glass) but the server realized this just before I asked about it and removed it. I was excited to get a milkshake for dessert -- they used to do massive, delicious milkshakes -- but apparently they stopped doing this about a year ago, so we passed on dessert entirely. They still have a 4% surcharge; c'mon, it's far past time to drop these. Prices overall are a bit high for fairly standard food.

    The Perfect Storm
    Valerie M.

The Salt Line is absolutely worth a visit if you're looking for great seafood and a beautiful spot on the Anacostia River. The view alone makes it special, and the staff were friendly and attentive the whole time. I had the shrimp and grits, oysters (lots of them), an oyster shooter, and a couple of their cocktails. The shrimp and grits were rich and perfectly cooked, and the oysters were fresh and briny. The oyster shooter was surprisingly delicious. The only disappointment was the Bloody Mary -- it looked amazing but tasted pretty average for the price. Still, the "Perfect Storm" version was strong and fun, even if the mix was the same. The food was good, especially the oysters, but oysters are kind of always good. The view was gorgeous, and like most spots on the DC waterfront, it's definitely on the pricey side.

    Kell M.

The food was pretty good but the service on a slow Thursday was incredibly subpar and I would not go back. The crab dip app was the star of the show and I really enjoyed it, but the burger was just okay in my opinion. There's a lot of good burgers in DC but the reviews swayed me to try it. Our waitress was inattentive, short, and picked up our trays when we were finishing up our fries, assuming we were done when we were just chatting and finishing up final bites. A quick "are you still working?" would've avoided this. There's plenty of options around so I won't be back personally.

It's a lovely thing to wander through before heading in to eat just a few feet away. The setting itself doesn't feel like Washington at all. With the charming little patio and relaxed vibe, you could imagine you're in another country, and it strikes a wonderful balance between easygoing and sophisticated. Little touches go a long way for me, and they nailed them here: silverware with the lovely illusion of polished silver and elevated stemware that added an extra bit of vibe to the whole experience. The staff were wonderfully accommodating from the start: everything was still soaked from the heavy rain the night before, but they went out of their way to set us up in a lovely shaded spot so we'd stay cool and comfortable. That same care showed up in a much bigger way later, when one of our party passed out from a health issue unrelated to the meal, and the team handled it with calm, attentiveness, and real heart. Now, the food. The brunch menu hits all the classics, chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict with fun variations featuring crab and smoked fish, all the good stuff. I settled on the lobster roll, which was incredibly good, served with Old Bay fries that came out perfectly hot and crisp, exactly the way fries should always arrive, with ketchup on the side. We also tried the tuna tartare and the buffalo oysters, which were a blast: fried oysters with a blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, served in the cutest presentation in shells on smooth lake pebbles. On the drinks side, I had a "Bloody Margaret," a gin-based riff on a Bloody Mary, and it was wonderfully spicy, just the way I like it. The cocktail list overall is playful and worth exploring. Oysters are clearly one of their fortes. They focus on Virginia oysters, so it's a single variety, but they do a lot with it across a range of preparations. There's also a fun Virginia peanut-centric theme running through the menu.

The restaurant was extremely busy, with the line out the door, so I understand it was a hectic day. However, the service was exceptionally slow. It took over 30 minutes for our order to even be entered into the system, and we waited about an hour for our food, including the appetizers. Our server, Brandon, started off okay after we were seated, but as the evening went on, he seemed distracted and less attentive to our table. With a large group that included children and a baby, we definitely needed more communication and support. The standout of the evening was the management team, especially Brandy. She was truly all hands on deck and went above and beyond to assist us. She was kind, customer-focused, and worked hard to address concerns and make sure guests felt taken care of. She honestly provided the best service we received during our visit. The food had several highlights. The char-grilled octopus was delicious and my first time trying it. The salad was top tier, and the shrimp fettuccine was probably one of the best dishes on the menu. The deviled eggs were good but could use a little more seasoning. The fish sandwich needed more sauce, and the fries and shrimp po' boy were both enjoyable, especially with extra sauce. One thing I didn't appreciate was the layout and accessibility of the restaurant. The space felt overcrowded, and the tables were packed very tightly together. As we were leaving, I had my son in his stroller and there wasn't enough room to comfortably get through. I was disappointed that our server didn't offer to help adjust the table or create a path for us to exit. I also noticed there weren't ramps that would make it easier for strollers or guests with mobility challenges to navigate the space. Improving accessibility and spacing would make a huge difference in the overall experience. Overall, the food and Brandy's exceptional customer service were the highlights of the visit. However, the long wait times, overcrowded seating, and accessibility concerns kept this from being a higher-rated experience.

It was delicious with tartar sauce and bread roll. I have to say, I'm really impressed with the bread rolls. I would've never thought a white bread roll could be so delicious, chewy, and fresh-tasting. It seriously tasted fresh and was so soft and doughy, so deliciously addictive. Even one friend, who does not like carbs, thought the bread rolls were amazing too. As for the oysters, they were fried, which surprised me a bit, as I was not expecting then to be fried. They were okay. Pretty unique taste and not bad at all, but I would've preferred raw or cooked (not fried) oysters. The sauteed spinach was rather too salty for me, but potato wedges were good. I tried a friend's crab balls, and they were too dry - no crab taste, just mostly crumbly bread meal taste. Another friend got a platter with red snapper and shrimps; the red snapper was cooked well, but I've always thought it to be rather tasteless for me, and the shrimps (fried) were good. This shop gave more than 4 pieces of seafood, which was the standard number for most of the seafood on the menu (one friend ordered 4 crab balls but got 5, I ordered 4 oysters and got 5, another person ordered 4 shrimps and got 6)! Nice! Portions (and the extra freebies) were very reasonable for the prices. It may be a good idea to split the seafood platter with another person... It was an incredibly filling meal that I could barely finish (and I'm typically a very hungry female athlete).

With the big line, I had hoped the food would be good. I ordered the crabcake sandwich ($9.85 w tax), which was mostly filler. There were also some shells in the takeout container. There was no seasoning, and it was just kind of bland and boring. I wouldn't return.
