This spot was discovered during a walk along the river and happened to be extremely busy at the time. Outdoor seating was full, so indoor seating was offered instead, which turned out to be a comfortable and pleasant alternative. The lobster roll was flavorful, though the bun-to-lobster ratio leaned more toward bread than filling (those who know, know). It was also served cold, which was a bit unexpected. The oysters were enjoyable, especially when paired with fresh lemon. This is definitely a spot where you order seafood. All the seafood dishes were mostly good. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp and grits though. It was just a basic shrimp and grits. I didn't feel it was all the special. I ordered the fish sandwich as my main. It was okay. I wish it had more toppings in it. Maybe some more sauce would have tied the whole dish together. This was my first time visiting Salt Line and im a little upset about it. I enjoyed everything about this place. I came in with a couple friends while waiting to head over to the Nats game, and we ordered a bunch of apps for all of us to pick at. The only thing I felt like needs to be served with something on the side was the potatoes. The were good but could use little something to elevate them. Whatever the sauce that comes the carrots or the Brussel sprouts both would be the perfect addition for the potatoes. This place is a definite check out if are in the area. read more

Not my favorite meal during my week long stay in DC. Their menu is limited and mainly seafood which is normally fine for me, but I did find myself not really settling on a dish until the last server recommendation (who was great by the way) which is not common. I settled on the rockfish dish which was just OK. Definitely an Asian taste to it that wasn't my favorite. The setting is nice as it's right by the Nationals stadium. I've visited the Salt Line a few times over the years. I like the food, nautical decor, and location in Navy Yard next to the river. On my recent visit, I stopped by on a Wednesday at 6 PM. The place was pretty quiet since it was mid-week and there weren't any sports games nearby. We had some wine ($14/glass), stuffies (3 for $13), Waterman's Platter ($36), and Scallops (5 for $36). Everything was very good. The scallops were served with a nice autumnal sauce and brussel sprouts. Waterman's Platter was fried oysters, fish, baby shrimp, and scallops along with fries, onion rings, coleslaw, and dipping sauce. Everything was crispy and nicely fried. The portal was large enough to take about half as leftovers. We were celebrating a special occasion and they brought over two small glasses of sparkling wine (basically half a glass each), which was nice but also a bit tacky to not give a full glass. Like, I would rather you just verbally acknowledge it and do nothing than take a half-measure like that. We had a nice time but a few things could have been better. They were out of the beer I ordered, so I went with wine. The free sparkling was originally on our bill (and billed as a single glass) but the server realized this just before I asked about it and removed it. I was excited to get a milkshake for dessert -- they used to do massive, delicious milkshakes -- but apparently they stopped doing this about a year ago, so we passed on dessert entirely. They still have a 4% surcharge; c'mon, it's far past time to drop these. Prices overall are a bit high for fairly standard food. read more

The Salt Line is absolutely worth a visit if you're looking for great seafood and a beautiful spot on the Anacostia River. The view alone makes it special, and the staff were friendly and attentive the whole time. I had the shrimp and grits, oysters (lots of them), an oyster shooter, and a couple of their cocktails. The shrimp and grits were rich and perfectly cooked, and the oysters were fresh and briny. The oyster shooter was surprisingly delicious. The only disappointment was the Bloody Mary -- it looked amazing but tasted pretty average for the price. Still, the "Perfect Storm" version was strong and fun, even if the mix was the same. The server brought the bill and said "the tip was already included in the bill you can just sign the bill". The more I think about it, the angrier I get at the fact that--as customers--we are already paying two separate taxes, yet now, on top of that, the server is demanding their own cut as well. The crab dip app was the star of the show and I really enjoyed it, but the burger was just okay in my opinion. There's a lot of good burgers in DC but the reviews swayed me to try it. It's about a 10-minute walk from where I was, and on such a gorgeous day, I immediately liked the outdoor patio. / bar. As soon as I walked in, the customer service was fantastic. and I decided to settle into a cozy booth and ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc along with the lobster roll and a side of greens. I was torn between the buttered lobster roll and one mixed with dressing, but the server was helpful and offered to bring the dressing on the side for me to try. I went with the buttered lobster roll. When my food arrived, it looked perfect, but I did notice that the lobster was a bit over-salted that day. Something about it--either the lobster or the butter--was saltier than I'd hoped. However, the lobster itself was still really tasty, and I'm willing to chalk up the saltiness to just an off day. I plan to return and give it another shot, this time trying the lobster roll dressed and swapping the greens for a side of fries. Life is too short not to indulge, right? I came here after the Nats game after doing some research in the stands on where to eat. The Salt Line is right across from Nats Park and overlooks the river. It was a beautiful night with perfect weather, and it seemed like everyone, and their mamas were at the Salt Line. There were tons of baseball fans who went over after the game and the party crowd out on a Saturday night. As for the service, the host and hostess were very friendly and accommodating. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table but considering how packed the place was; it wasn't bad. Our waitress gave us great service and recommended a few dishes and came often to check on us. Very fun and lively vibes at this establishment. I had the clam chowder, Rockfish tartare and New England smash burger. The clam chowder and Rockfish tartare were the standout. I checked them out for brunch and it was good experience. The weather was warmer so I was able to sit inside at a booth for two. I got the crab dip and steak and eggs, which were both delicious. The only thing was that there were pieces of crab shell in the dip, which made my eating experience less enjoyable. The chips could've also been seasoned a little heavier with old bay. I decided to walk my dog by the water on a sunny day and dropped into the outdoor bar area for something to eat since they are dog friendly. I hadn't been to The Salt Line before and was pleased by the friendliness and attentive service of the staff. The place is packed on a beautiful day so you'll have to be patient to get an outdoor spot, but if you're lucky enough to get a seat you'll be treated to great views and food. Seafood is their specialty and the menu has a great selection of fresh seasonal items as well as dockside staples. I got the Crab Roll and substituted the Crispy Brussels Sprouts for the fries for a slight but worthwhile up-charge. Strolled down to the Salt Line after leaving the Nats game. Had researched it while sitting in the stands, thought it looked like a decent spot so I gave it a try. Pros: food was really good! Tried 3 raw oysters from their availability list and then had the pan-seared scallops with tomato passata, confit eggplant, roasted zucchini, grana padano. The scallop dish was interesting. Some different herbs involved that would show up unexpectedly on the palate....but it all worked together! My waitress, Cheryl, was just attentive enough (perfect) and was able to answer all my questions. Great location, right on the river. Small menu. Cons: raw bar oysters are (on average) $4 a piece, which I think is a bit much, especially for smaller oysters. (I may be spoiled because I don't live in the big city so I'm not up on big city prices). The scallops in my scallop dish were "just" warm...like they were done well before the rest of the dish was and it all got put together. The Salt Line is a fun and lively place on Nats game day. My friend and I sat at the outdoor bar near the water on a warm July evening. Drink service was quick since the bartenders were always moving about and serving people in close proximity. Getting the raw oysters took a bit longer from the kitchen, likely because of how busy the restaurant was that day. But when the oysters did come we were satisfied with what we chose and they tasted fresh. Salt Line is a great outdoor option to hang out along the water in Navy Yard, especially if you're in the mood for seafood. Plus, you're super close to one the least busier entry gates to Nats Park if you want to hop over before the game. If you're not going into the ballpark, they have outdoor TVs as well to watch all the action. read more

We grabbed a table, but it took awhile for anyone to come and take our order, so we had to flag down a server. I've been to the salt line a few times and can say I've never had a bad experience. A few things I love: - Service is always top notch. Regardless of the size of my party (whether it's just me, me and a friend or a party of 10) - Oysters are so delicious! I always opt for the briniest of oysters, but I've never been disappointed. They're pricey-ish but so good! - outdoor seating area is always a vibe. I enjoy being outside so LOVE that they offer a variety of different seating options (sofas, high tops, bars) etc - they allow pets on the patio! My pup and I had a wonderful Saturday brunch here where the staff welcomed him, allowed me to order a pup friendly kids meal for him (hamburger no bun with apples on the side) and made sure his water bowl was topped off - the brunch menu was also tasty (drawing a blank on everything I've tried but can say confidently that everything was delicious. While the weather is still nice, I'll for sure be back to hang out, get a glass of Prosecco and enjoy some oysters while the weather still lets me do it! read more

It's been my second time back and still no improvement at all. First off while no one was even in establishment we were told to wait even with reservations and we were about twenty minutes early. It was annoying because we clearly saw were we would be seated but sat at bar anywhere. Drinks were great tasty quick to get and oysters were fine but could have been chilled more and took a little long. When we finally got seated waited like ten minutes for more water and to be served when clearly the restaurant was empty. The servers while nice when they did speak to us service was slow and we had multiple wait staff so we weren't sure who was and wasn't on the floor. Now the food was below average to me. My friends fried shrimp roll wasn't even deveined and the fries were scarce compared to my plate of fries. I also got fried clams and they tasted great but portion was so small for the price. And I didn't love the coddies tasted like it had been in old oil or just dry stale in my eyes. AMBIENCE: The Salt Line in Washington DC presented a calm relaxing dining experience. An outside patio in which guests can dine by fire side and order custom made cocktails at their outside bar. The restaurant gives a strong sense of pride in their decor for the fishing culture surrounding the city with decorations. The option to sit inside or outside is always a big plus in my book especially with such a beautiful few of the night lights and water just in front of you. STAFF: The staff were very friendly and informal. The host assured us that the restaurant was very considerate to those who just want to dine without reservation. Considering the restaurant is located next to the stadium of the Washington Nationals Baseball team this must be a highlight for those looking for some food after the game. FOOD: For dinner I ordered the Black Rum Lemonade, Baked Pimento Crab Dip, and Crab Cavatelli. The Black Rum Lemonade was refreshing however the cocktail had a stinging sensation of bourbon, a little too much in the mixture. The Baked Pimento Crab Dip was absolutely delightful! The chips that came with it were so light and airy that paired lovely with the smooth and salty dip. And finally for my entrée I had the Crab Cavatelli. It had this savory twist of salty yet satisfying as the herbs and spices blended with the confines of the textured crab meat. It was absolutely delicious. Additionally, portion sizes I felt were very filling even for a more higher end place to eat. RECOMMENDATIONS: Upon entering the restaurant there was an awkwardness as we waited at the front host desk to be seated and nobody was there to greet us. It wasn't a busy night however being greeted right at the front door shows a good sign of hospitality as well as warmth for the dining experience of the establishment. It took us about 15 minutes until anyone came to stop and say hello and check us in for our reservation. For a restaurant with so many positives a friendly face at the door would make it that much better! CONCLUDING REMARKS: Overall, I fairly enjoyed the restaurant! I recommend it for any lover of Seafood Cuisine or simply looking for a nearby place to socialize and grab a drink at night. My friends and I went here on 6/8/2024, we did not know the Nats were playing, so parking was insane (not the restaurants fault, nor a factor in my review)! We had a friendly and attentive server that greeted us right away, we ordered drinks, took pics (because you have to) and then we got the baked pimento crab dip to share as a starter. The dip was pretty good and I especially liked the Old Bay crap chips. I got the King Crab benedict with fries instead of mixed greens for my meal and unfortunately, I do not recommend this dish. I am not sure what was wrong with it, but I think it boils down to something being off/wrong with the hollandaise. The benedict was just not good. The fries were fine.
