We tried Fat Fish for the first time and had the Fat Fish roll and the Poke Wonton Nachos. The food was delicious! Fresh, quick and made to order. Very flavorful and full of fresh fish and veggies. The sauces were amazing. We also had the pineapple orange juice and complimentary water. It's a small eatery with indoor and outdoor seating but able to accommodate all of their guests. Who does not love soft serve in a taiyaki cone!? Personally I love fruity pebbles so I love that they have the option to add toppings. I typically get the most boring flavor so I think this was vanilla, but I've also tried their Matcha and their Ube and I highly recommend. You can do a single flavor or a swirl in a cup or a cone. If you're just ordering ice cream, you can use the kiosk and you don't have to wait in line and then you can watch them. You know swirl it up. I always take the ice cream and then go for a walk so I'm not sure if they have seating but since they sell food, I'm sure they do. Overall, this place has delicious ice cream, but the entree dishes are mid. I came for a visit with my partner and ordered one Miso Salmon Bento Box, one Poke Bowl, and one ice cream. The Poke Bowl had very little fish... It seems like only one small scoop of fish was added, and overall the bowl was not worth the amount we paid for it. The flavor of it was fine though. The Miso Salmon Bento was much more worth the price. The salmon was undercooked, so I asked if it was possible to cook it for a little longer, and the employees were very accommodating and re-heated the same piece of salmon! I really appreciate that they were able to re-heat the salmon rather than just getting a new one and thus producing more food waste. This was a big "plus" to the restaurant in my eyes. The ice cream was very delicious, as was the fish cone it came in! On our visit, the ice cream flavors available were sakura and ube, so we opted for a swirl with both flavors. I highly recommend the fish cone ice cream here! Overall, I would consider returning for the dessert, but I likely will not get another entree dish here in the future. One additional note is that there is no bathroom in the restaurant, but there are some public bathrooms along the Wharf. read more

I was excited to come here as my friend gave me a good review, but my experience wasn't what I expected. The place has some indoor and patio seating. You order the meal either online or at the kiosk, so it is pretty efficient if you know what you want. You also have many options to customize your order. After you pay, you have to get your drink at the counter by yourself (there were no instructions about it). My drink was cherry blossom and hibiscus rose tea, which was subtly sweet, floral, and nice. However, the service was slow and unfriendly even though we came in when the store just opened. After waiting about 15 min, we finally got our orders, but my customization was completely ignored. I requested to change the sauce, leave the sauce on the side, and add sesame seeds and nori, but everything was forgotten as you can see in my photo. If they cannot accommodate, the options shouldn't been on the digital menu anyway. The excessive amount of dressing on rice (not toppings) made rice soggy and way too salty to eat. The pre-seasoned toppings like ginger and pickled onion were also overly sour. The seasonal bowl with beet-dyed salmon was a creative idea, but the salmon didn't have any firm, good texture anymore. You order with a touch screen (or your phone) and then pick up your items from the counter. I ordered the bento ($19) which was fantastic - fresh tuna poke, 6 pieces of a sushi roll of your choice, shrimp tempura, ginger salad with edamame, and a mini taiyaki for dessert! Somewhat frustrating experience here. So, you don't speak to any employees here. Any ordering is done via ipad. When I first went in, I went to a counter to see if the worker would address me, but didn't give me eye contact. It was only until I asked another customer how to order did they point out a small ipad in the corner for me to use. I wanted to get food and the ice cream. I didn't see the ice cream on the ipad menu. I wasn't sure if it went by another name (I saw things like cookies). FINALLY, some real poke! After moving to DC, Ive been very hesitant to have poke here (since I was raised on Poke and Poke bowls back in Hawai'i). I'm happy that Fat Fish cuts their poke legit and it tasted good. I just ordered a signature bowl, spicy tuna, I didn't feel like building my own. The rice was cooked and seasoned well. Veggies on it were fresh, but I could do without it as well. We also got poke nachos, which also was good. They were loaded with poke, a variety of different fish, and other toppings. It seemed balanced, we didn't have too many chips and there was a good amount of toppings. Ordering was easy enough, they take orders via kiosks at the front of the restaurant. The workers were working hard--they had quite the queue to fulfill. The space was clean and I appreciated the colorful decor. We also got the taiyaki ice cream. The flavors were vanilla sky and strawberry guava. The taiyaki was ok, it reminded me of a waffle, like it should. The tail isn't hollowed out, so the ice cream doesn't drip through as much. I was really curious about their "sushi burrito" aka fat fish roll so when I came down to the city to visit, I knew I had to stop by. The fish was soft and very fresh and filled me up so quickly, and the food also came out quickly. For $18 it is a bit pricy but I understand its location does contribute to this pricing. Food was gross. I ordered the fat fish bowl and the rice was stale. The sauce was too sweet. I honestly had trouble choking this down and was glad when it was over. I'm not really holding this one against them but the lemonade was too sweet for my tastes. What I will hold against them is that the drink dispenser was really sticky, the part the cup pushes on probably needs to be cleaned more often. The food came out suspiciously fast, I ordered at the terminal and by the time I was in my seat it seems like the food was ready. I really wonder if this was already made earlier today and they just gave me a bowl that's been sitting out. Even with everything prepped I couldn't imagine assembling this bowl that fast. Cute poke spot but taiyaki ice cream did not meet aesthetic expectations. I forgot fat fish was at the wharf but I saw their taiyaki ice cream sign and instantly remembered I've been wanting to go. I went up to their contactless order at a screen and checked out what flavors they had avilable for ice cream. Of course, vanilla was there but was great to see they had the fall seasonal flavor of pumpkin which happened to be vegan. Definitely appreciated that and the fact that they can swirl it. When going to extras, you're able to add either a mango or chocolate drizzle, sprinkles, custard fill taiyaki or chocolate wafer. I chose for the chocolate wafer and custard fill taiyaki. I appreciated when ordering the taiyaki, they let you know it will be a 5-min wait. I didn't see an option to have an ice cream filled taiyaki which made me a little disappointed but that's ok, a little one with my ice cream in a cup is still cute aesthetics. After waiting, my ice cream was served but the worker didn't realize I ordered the chocolate wafted and came to find out they didn't have any and said they've been adding a spoon of Nutella. Well I've found my new poke spot! I ordered via UberEATS on a whim when I saw they had a few offers. IN DC, especially SW, I expect things to be pricey but I feel like you get good value for your meal here. I did the spicy tuna poke bowl, the spring rolls, and the bento box. The bento box is so cute and I loved fje variety and the flavors of it all. It's a little pricier so it's good if you have a special offer or want more variety.
