beautiful interior especially the penthouse! I love the igloos outside during the winter months. The penthouse brunch has a limited menu selection but I opted for the chicken & waffles! Chicken came out super crispy but could be spicier and the waffle is like any other waffle lol the price is on the higher side of things for the portion (very small !!! Even for entrees!!!!) so if you're looking for a budget friendly place.. this is not it. Staff is nice for the most part, host / hostess can be rude depending on who you get but servers are friendly!

We dined in on New Year's Day for a friend's birthday. She reserved an igloo. The ambiance at La Vie is STUNNING! We were welcomed and sat at our igloo but the service started off horrific. Just lackadaisical, I get it... it's New Year's Day and you're probably hung over. It's 1:30 in the afternoon. We have a 2 hour limit and have to spend $79 PP let's get the ball rolling. It shouldn't take 15-20 minutes to order drinks and another 20 to get the drink when the place is practically empty. I got up and got the manager because I was starving and I was sick of our non existent server. Once I did, our experience was absolutely amazing. Listen ! I believe his name was Amir . Amir got our drinks out quicker, our food out nice and hot, birthday desserts and HE KEPT CHECKING ON US. He is a reflection of exceptional customer service. He listened to our dislikes and fixed them immediately. I will absolutely be returning to this establishment. The food ..... 10/10. No notes ! I hate it was almost overshadowed by the bad service. The steak and eggs, the truffle Mac and cheese, the baked Alaska OH MY. I see why this place is highly rated. Great job kitchen staff. I ate EVERY BITE OF MY FOOD !!!!!

I brought in the New Year here...there was a gala/party on one floor and dinner in the penthouse - we did dinner. The ambiance is beautiful! We had a 10:30pm reservation and didn't have to wait for our table. The staff was a bit slow to acknowledge us by coming to our table just to take ask what we wanted to drink. When ordered our drinks, we also ordered our food. The service was slow. We had to ask our waiter about our drinks and when the seafood tower we ordered for our appetizer hadn't arrived after we'd been seated for 45 minutes, we spoke with the owner. The owner and manager took care of us and made it right! The seafood tower was good but our favorite was the lamb lasagna...outstanding! For the dessert option we had the Dubai chocolate...it's not something I would normally order but it was good. I'll consider returning to take my mom to brunch and hopefully the service is better where I won't have to ask to speak with a manager and/owner.

A great spot with an absolutely beautiful view of the Wharf and the water. There's even an open rooftop you can head up to, which makes the whole place feel even more special. The décor is amazing honestly, some of it made me laugh in the best way and the overall ambiance is gorgeous, modern, and fun. Everything I ordered was really good, from the drinks to the food, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The whole place feels very high-end, making it a perfect date spot or a brunch-with-the-girls kind of place. Highly recommend!

Anyone who knows me knows that La Vie is one of my favorite brunch spots in DC. It's located at the Wharf overlooking the water. This place is always busy and reservations go so fast. Don't wait until the last minute to try and book because it's hard. Anyways, the service is amazing as expected. The decor is gorgeous. My favorite thing is that the plates are bottomless and served family style. You can literally order anything on the menu as many times are you'd like. I hate that they took the duck carbonara off of the menu. That was my favorite thing. The best thing this visit was the raw bar, the lamb from the carving station and the meatballs. I really am upset that they took my duck carbonara away. The Duck pie was not a good duck substitute. The bottomless mimosas were on the money as well. Our server made sure that they were never empty. Make sure that you dress accordingly. It's not a casual sneaker place.

This is a place you go to if you want to impress someone. We dined here this week and had an amazing experience. Thank you to Heidy from La Vie for helping with our reservation. We reserved an igloo at the penthouse and it was breathtaking. It looked like each igloo was decorated with a different color or theme inside. The heaters do a great job, we didn't need jackets. The views are amazing. The service was outstanding. The food was delicious. The drinks were great especially the Rouge Sauvage. It was a cocktail with Cognac and it was absolutely delicious. We can't wait to be back. I highly recommend having this experience at least once if you're lucky enough to get a reservation.

For a birthday celebration we checked out this nice restaurant right on the wharf that I have heard rave reviews about. This is a fancy Mediterranean restaurant that serves dishes tapas style. We ordered a wide spread of different dishes to try. While I have heard good things about this place, I thought it was very mediocre. There was a mix of bland dishes, really salty dishes and some really good ones. If you come here, I personally would recommend the lobster risotto and the mussels served with fries. They do have an absolutely amazing view that overlooks the water. You are definitely more for the ambiance and view rather than the food. Worth visiting once for a special occasion but not worth it in my opinion. Apps: Seafood Misto, Mussels, Manti and Trio Spread (Hummus, Labne and Baba Ghanoush) Entrees: Pan Roasted Scallops, Lamb Chops, Roasted Chicken, Lobster Risotto and Squid Ink Pasta Sides: Broccolini and Wild Mushrooms

Go with your besties or that special someone - either way you are going to have a great time at this establishment. Staff and vibe are awesome and so is the food that is the feature - make sure you make a reservation. Don't need a special occasion unless there is one. Go try it out and post your review.

La Vie for dinner was a dream. The decor is always beautiful, and the service is top tier. This was my first time having dinner (that I can recall) on a Wednesday night, although I've had their brunch before. There weren't a ton of people at the restaurant, so my friend and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. We had the charred Broccolini and Brussel Sprouts for sides, and both were prepared to perfection. For the main dish, we had the Surf and Turf which was a combination of food from land and sea: shrimp, mussels, lobster, steak, and lamb. Everything was delicious. I only wish there was more seafood because I'm not the biggest red meat eater. We had a delicious bottle of cabernet that was suggested by our amazing waiter based on our preferences. I wish that I could remember the name, but it paired perfectly with our meal. Will definitely return to La Vie for a date night or special event because those prices were a little high considering the amount of food that was provided.

Great location. With tip it was over $500 for 2 people. The steak looks amazing but raw, I got a coke, came in a small glass with half ice. I had to ask for a refill on pop, and never offered ever on a refill for pop. The gal that got our used please was the most friendliest and helpful staff that we encountered. The lobster was good actually everything was good but the raw steak.

Had an amazing time in the igloos to celebrate my mom's birthday. Not only are they beautiful and have a nice view. It was actually pretty warm and equipped with 2 heaters. The service was pretty good. We sat at the bar for a bit before our table was ready and the bartender made me a nice tasty drink. The hot toddy was also very good! For my meal I ordered the salmon and mashed potatoes. Both delicious. My mom ordered the surf and turf which was big enough to feed 2 people. I will say the food could have been a tad bit warmer but it was still seasoned well and enjoyable.

My friend and I visited LaVie for brunch. We decided to do the first floor where it is set up all-you-can-eat style which was a little different than the penthouse. We were seated in the patio area which was beautiful. Our waiter came over immediately with a hook for our purses and was back in two seconds with our water. Service was really great. After explaining to us how everything worked, we begin to order our first round of options and shortly after our small plates brunch options were brought out. I really loved that. We enjoyed all the dishes but our favorite were the banana pancakes and the shrimp and grits. The only complaint that we had was the parking. Our bill was a little over 300 dollars for the two of us but there isn't any validated parking and the parking was over 40 dollars!!!! And I'm not taking any stars away because of it. I'm not even sure if that is a restaurant choice or the wharf's in its entirety. I feel like if you're coming to sit down at a restaurant and spend that much, maybe parking shouldn't be that pricey. I can totally understand it for those who are just coming to stroll but not paying customers. Just my opinion. We had a great time though and will be going back .

This was my first time trying La Vie, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. I've had much better Mediterranean food before. We were a group of 9 girls celebrating a birthday, and we all agreed the food was disappointing and overpriced. It was all about presentation, but lacked flavor. I ordered the chicken dish, which was just okay. For the price, definitely not worth it. One of my friends got the hamburger and fries, and she only ate the fries because she was hungry says a lot! The saving grace was our server, Ever. He was amazing super attentive and courteous. He deserves 10 stars! But sadly, the food and even the dessert were underwhelming. The chef? Maybe 2 stars at best. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the belly dancing show was a great touch. But it honestly felt like we were paying more for the ambiance than for quality food. Would I go back or recommend it? No. Not for the food. Maybe for drinks and the view but eat somewhere else first.

Ask the Community - La Vie

Is there a dress code or suggestion?

Not sure if officially, but since I've been there a number of times I'd say trendy, fashion forward.

Is this place child friendly? Do they have high chairs?

Yes, they are and high chairs are available. We took there our 1 year old few months ago

Is this restaurant accessible? We have people In the party that cannot take stairs.

I believe it is, there's an elevator that takes you up to the restaurant.

Can you sit at the bar here? Hoping to go for some cocktails, but do not want to take up a table reservation. However I'm worried that 1. They don't offer such seating and 2. If they do, the wait without a reservation would be extremely long

Yes you can sit at the bar but it would be ideal if you there before 7pm during the week for your chance of finding a seat.

During the winter, does the igloo keep people warm inside it?

    Yes! It's heated!

Is there a $15 charge per seat ? I can't seem to get ahold of anyone over the phone and I keep hearing different things

The best way to reach them is by email. You'll get a quicker response. And no we didn't have to pay a sue charge per seat.

Does everyone have to get the limitless brunch? Also, I've been calling and nobody answers, it's impossible to make any reservations!

Yes, everyone has to get the unlimited brunch but not the mimosas! I tried calling them several times as well, but no answer. You may need to go on their website to make reservations. I was a guest of someone's and do not know how they went about… Read more

Are they serving halal food ? If so bacon on menu is Turkey bacon?

Yes. They have halal options BUT please make sure and ask first bc they will tell you what is and isn't pork

Is there regular outdoor patio dining (without igloo)?

    Yes there is

Is it customary for this restaurant to add the tip automatically for small parties?

If it's a small group the gratuity is already added as well. I had a birthday dinner of 4 and they added it

Igloo reservation question. Is it really min $125/per person for the igloo? I am aware of the $100 deposit to be applied but confused if the $125/pp is enforced.

I believe it is, when I went my friend and I spent about 125 each. However I believe that gratuity is already included in the charge so that helps. The waiter most definitely reminded us of the spending minimum once we were seated.

    Is the meat here halal?

Hi Rabia, I am not too sure. I suggest you call the restaurant and find out. I would suggest you call the restaurant to find out. I hope this helps

Do they do anything special for anniversaries?

    I'm sorry I'm unsure

Is the brunch good? Any ideas or suggestions before reservations?

I thought brunch was delicious! It's a buffet with everything and it's all you can eat

Does the bar/happy hour area have water views?

It has spectacular views of the water, the Wharf, the marina, and East Potomac Park across the channel.

What is happy hour like? Is there seating without reservations in bar/lounge area?

La Vie Happy Hour is "okay" ...... prices are a tad bit over priced and the menu is "decent". I recommend Hank's Oyster Bar, if you are looking to hit the Wharf. Better drinks, outdoor patio and great food (for a better price).

Is there a way to get in contact with someone for reservations? I've been trying to make reservations for a birthday dinner for about a week now.....

I'm assuming you called and they didn't answer? I just made reservations for 2 on opentable

    Where do u park?

there's *very* limited street parking - it took me 40 minutes to find parking the time I went. Garage parking is available but at exorbitant rates ($35 for a few hours!) Metro / uber is the best bet

Are they hosting brunch on weekends yet?

Not yet. I was just there for dinner this past weekend. Hank's and Canopy by Hilton both have good brunch/ hearty breakfast options.

There was music but it wasn't too obnoxious, we were still able to have conversations - it was surprisingly chill and exactly what we were looking for. Chatted to the bartender who made some fancy shots for us, had a few drinks. It was not busy at all on a Sat night which was nice. It is very dark inside even with the neon lights so it does make it hard to read the menus (had to use flashlights on our phone). We had a couple of the bar bites - the spiced peanuts were well loved across the group but my person favorite food item was the blistered shishitos, which came with a great chipotle aioli. The bathrooms are extremely clean and overall this was a bar favorite for the group for our week of going out and socializing together. Overall this is a gem of a neighborhood hangout with really excellent cocktails and service! Will absolutely come here next time I'm in town!

Within minutes the place was packed, so although we were able to get a seat I'd still recommend making a reservation since the space fills up quickly. Initially I didn't realize this was a gin-focused bar, but now I'm hooked ( I told the bartenders about my usual preferences and they were able to make great recommendations). The drinks were incredibly well crafted and full of unique flavor. I started with one of their signature drinks but then asked for a bartender's choice based on what I typically enjoy and they absolutely nailed it. The space has a stylish speakeasy vibe that feels both elevated and inviting. You ring a bell to be let in, which makes the whole experience feel a little more special. Inside, it's moody and romantic with plush seating, gorgeous lighting, and a warm ambiance that's perfect for date night or just catching up with friends. Whether you're a gin enthusiast or just looking for a cool spot to grab a drink in DC, this place is absolutely worth checking out. I'm already planning my next visit.

We didn't know this was a gin bar but the drinks were tasty and great. The caramel popcorn is delicious. We got it without chocolate. This is an awesome space. I'll definitely be back.
