We had a very disappointing experience with our reservation at La Vie through OpenTable for the Valentine's Day prix fixe menu. At the time of booking, we were charged a prepaid amount of over $190. However, when we dined at the restaurant, the final bill did not deduct this prepaid amount, and we were charged the full price again. After realizing this, we contacted the restaurant. We were told to send an email explaining the situation, which we did two weeks ago, followed by another email one week ago. To date, we have received no response at all. This is extremely frustrating. Not only were we effectively double charged, but the complete lack of follow-up or customer service is unacceptable. We expected much better from a restaurant of this caliber. At the very least, communication and basic billing accuracy should be handled properly. read more

The banana pancake, shrimp and grits, and truffle mac and cheese were all highlights. The brunch price isn't bad at $55 per person, but I do think the add on mimosa service could be more expansive for the cost. The base tier should include all the variety of mimosas. It would make more sense for the add on to function purely as an upgraded alcohol package. Coffee and tea should at least be included in the standard brunch price. I also think the shrimp and grits buffet dish could be improved. It would be better to have more grits under the shrimp or to separate them, so guests can customize how much shrimp and sauce they want. The sauce is AMAZING! Just lackadaisical, I get it... it's New Year's Day and you're probably hung over. It's 1:30 in the afternoon. We have a 2 hour limit and have to spend $79 PP let's get the ball rolling. It shouldn't take 15-20 minutes to order drinks and another 20 to get the drink when the place is practically empty. I got up and got the manager because I was starving and I was sick of our non existent server. Once I did, our experience was absolutely amazing. Listen ! I believe his name was Amir . Amir got our drinks out quicker, our food out nice and hot, birthday desserts and HE KEPT CHECKING ON US. He is a reflection of exceptional customer service. I brought in the New Year here...there was a gala/party on one floor and dinner in the penthouse - we did dinner. The ambiance is beautiful! We had a 10:30pm reservation and didn't have to wait for our table. The staff was a bit slow to acknowledge us by coming to our table just to take ask what we wanted to drink. When ordered our drinks, we also ordered our food. The service was slow. We had to ask our waiter about our drinks and when the seafood tower we ordered for our appetizer hadn't arrived after we'd been seated for 45 minutes, we spoke with the owner. The owner and manager took care of us and made it right! The seafood tower was good but our favorite was the lamb lasagna...outstanding! For the dessert option we had the Dubai chocolate...it's not something I would normally order but it was good. Anyone who knows me knows that La Vie is one of my favorite brunch spots in DC. It's located at the Wharf overlooking the water. This place is always busy and reservations go so fast. Don't wait until the last minute to try and book because it's hard. Anyways, the service is amazing as expected. The decor is gorgeous. My favorite thing is that the plates are bottomless and served family style. You can literally order anything on the menu as many times are you'd like. I hate that they took the duck carbonara off of the menu. That was my favorite thing. The best thing this visit was the raw bar, the lamb from the carving station and the meatballs. I really am upset that they took my duck carbonara away. The Duck pie was not a good duck substitute. The bottomless mimosas were on the money as well. For a birthday celebration we checked out this nice restaurant right on the wharf that I have heard rave reviews about. This is a fancy Mediterranean restaurant that serves dishes tapas style. We ordered a wide spread of different dishes to try. While I have heard good things about this place, I thought it was very mediocre. There was a mix of bland dishes, really salty dishes and some really good ones. If you come here, I personally would recommend the lobster risotto and the mussels served with fries. They do have an absolutely amazing view that overlooks the water. You are definitely more for the ambiance and view rather than the food. We were a group of 9 girls celebrating a birthday, and we all agreed the food was disappointing and overpriced. It was all about presentation, but lacked flavor. Unfortunately, our experience reminded me of many restaurants I've been to that are style over substance: plenty of decor and good views and opportunities for Instagrammable shots, but where the food falls second to those attractions. We shared quite a few dishes: arancini (ratatouille, burrata, saffron aioli); broccolini (labneh, za'atar, crispy shallot, nduja, egg, and pomegranate seeds); hummus and lamb (housemade hummus, braised lamb, spiced lamb demi, pickled garlic, red onion, fresh herbs); halloumi fries (halloumi cheese, honey labneh, pomegranate seeds); manti (open-faced dumpling, beef, lamb, urfa chicken demi, garlic yogurt, Aleppo streusel), and raspberry sorbet. I really enjoyed the manti - so much in fact, we ordered a second plate of them. However, I didn't enjoy several of the other dishes. The broccolini in particular made absoltely no sense to me. It might have been good without the egg, which didn't make sense to me and was very undercooked. The whites were so under that the plate looked quite gross (lumps of raw egg whites mixing with other things on the plate, the pomegranate seeds hiding among clouds of egg whites). The rest of the dishes ranged from fine to pretty good, but only one stood out as very good and one as very bad. I had a glass of wine, while my husband had a cocktail, which were fine. And I will say the service was very good throughout (they were very helpful and friendly). And the location at the Wharf is very convenient and the views are great. But ultimately, I didn't think the food was very good at La Vie. I'm not planning on making a return visit. read more

It was as if it wasn't a tomahawk, just a slab of very tough steak and a charred bone next to it to give it appearance of a tomahawk steak. We expected pricey drinks but still, after an almost $400 bill for 3, with no appetizer nor dessert, and at $145, that steak is not worth it! Sides are $17 each and their truffle fries were not good, almost off putting there's an after taste and dried our mouths even despite our drinks and water. It was off! Anyway, after I realized there is no James Bond in the house we were seated. They have a wide variety of over priced drinks and because I don't drink alcohol I opted for a non alcoholic beverage but I swear for that price they should just give you the alcohol for free. Must be because of the high price on strawberries. Our waiter was very matter of fact and honestly treated us like he would rather be at home watching Netflix than serving us. Anyway I opted for burger ( no bacon) and we ordered a few sharing items like the hummus and the kofta. The food came out pretty quickly and while we were still chewing the appetizers they came out with the mains and practically took our food away. The burger - it was ok. Nothing to write home about. I am not sure what the other ladies ordered but I can tell you this much - not one of them finished their meal and not one of them wanted to take leftovers.... Hmmm. I was disappointed that the party in front of us was running over, which resulted in my party having to wait almost an hour after my reservation to be seated. It seems as though they need to allot more time in between reservations so they don't overlap. I am, however, appreciative of the effort they put in to try to remedy the situation. Overall, the igloo was beautiful! I loved the ambiance and the speaker was a nice touch. However, connecting to the speaker was frustrating as the names were all the same and there was no way to indicate which one you were connecting to. As for the food, everything was tasty. I really enjoyed the banana pancakes, but the spanakopita was tiny for the price. I also did not realize the penthouse menu was more limited than the regular brunch menu and as a pescatarian I did not find the options were inclusive enough. My vegan friend opted to eat dairy because the menu was lacking. I also am taking off a star because my potatoes arrived cold. Lastly, I wish Shay was a little quicker with the champagne as we paid for a bottomless experience, but overall she was a friendly server. My friends and I celebrated a birthday in the Penthouse Igloo area, which was beautifully decorated with unique themes, cozy heaters, and personal speakers--creating a fun and intimate atmosphere. That said, our experience had some hiccups. We waited nearly an hour past our reservation time before being seated, yet our time limit still began as soon as we sat down. It felt rushed at the end, especially with the next group waiting right outside our igloo--an awkward contrast to how long we had to wait for the party before us to finish. Our server (Shay) was friendly but disappeared for long stretches, so we didn't get to place our food order until almost an hour after being seated. Unfortunately, the speaker system was also a bit frustrating, as all igloos share the same device name, making it difficult to connect, and no one came to assist when it didn't work, although they offered to replace the sp When the food arrived, it was lukewarm, which was disappointing after such a long wait. However, the flavors didn't disappoint--I ordered the Steak and Eggs, which was delicious and came with a hearty potato hash. The crème brûlée was very smooth. The bottomless drinks were a highlight; we definitely got our money's worth by keeping the orders flowing! Overall, this is a fun and aesthetically pleasing spot, perfect for a girls' outing or a unique date experience. However, at around $110+ per person (with gratuity included and some of our deposit applied due to the inconvenience), I'm not sure it fully justifies the price. It would be great to see more dietary-friendly options and a broader selection of their regular brunch menu available in the igloos.
