Terrible service experience. Only one ordering machine was working -- the other one was out of order. Some of orders were no pictures on the menu, making it really confusing to figure out what to order. No wonder everyone was taking so long. I waited around 15 minutes just for a guy to finish ordering. The machine itself was unclear and frustrating to use. In the end, I gave up and didn't order anything. This was the best combination the honey oat and lavender twist. It was light, sweet, and refreshing. It's perfect for a hot, summer day. This was a perfect pairing. Came here for the soft swirl. They change the flavors every two months. The flavor today was chai latte and black sesame. The chai latte had an icy consistency and wasn't sure about the flavor. The black sesame had a much better consistency but the flavor wasn't as strong. Got the soft serve cup $6 with the fish cone on top $4.50 and fruity pebbles topping $0.25 - $.50. the fish was hard and crunchy...wasn't made to order and must of been sitting out over night....how disappointing to pay that much for a cone that wasn't fresh. $11...not sure I would come back. read more

Fat fish is within walking distance from the museum and is located at the wharf! It is a small/narrow building, but packs a punch! I don't eat seafood so I had ordered the only vegetable filled item which was a vegetable sushi wrap with peanut sauce. The wrap hit all the flavors: crunchy, sweet, and spicy. The sauce is what makes it spicy and is served on the side. My husband, brother in law and niece all ordered boxes which appear to be bento box style. That 5th star would be EASILY earned if you had some friendly customer service - greet people who walk in, help newbies with the experience, and don't ignore people standing at your counter. The food is tasty, fresh, great variety and options, so don't ruin the experience with impersonal customer service. Introverted customer service including digital ordering at the counter, is not helpful for an in person restaurant. Just say HI, LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP YOU, then be ready to help and don't ignore people when they stand at the counter waiting for assistance (you can tell they need you when they are looking AT YOU), especially when there are 3 of you and no one else in the restaurant and no tickets are printing for takeaway orders. Food was very average compared to the sushi I'm used to in Boston, but there is a big price difference. The spicy salmon roll has overwhelming amount of jalapeños, so it feels like eating fire. The fish bento has some very crispy fry fish but the fry shrimp, it didn't taste or have any shrimp texture. At least the California roll has big chunks of crab meat. read more

I believe this spot is a newer spot at the wharf. I love how the sun light hits the inside of this establishment. It's very clean inside and enough room for outdoor eating too. My friend and I went and got sushi because we were craving it and it didn't disappoint. The sushi was freshly made with love too. I believe the owner was one of the guys we were speaking to and he was really nice. On my next visit I plan to get more sushi along with some ubi ice cream. I've heard it's delicious. My wife loves this ice cream so much that she made me drive all the way to the wharf just to get some of it.

I was here for the BOGO in the Be My Elite event, and due to some error in the machine, they aren't going through with the BOGO, so I only got their taiyaki instead. In terms of the taiyaki, although the custard taste okay, there's a weird plastic taste to the ice cream, and it doesn't really have the azuki bean paste fillings that a normal taiyaki has. Overall, 4.8/10 for the ice cream. EDIT: I came in on February, but I wrote the review in March. Like I said, I was here for the BOGO and it was not honored. I did not specifically deduct any stars for this, but the owners thought otherwise. This review is mainly for what I've gotten when I came in on February, and it was for the taiyaki. If this is the attitude that the owners have regarding this situation, then I'm glad I didn't spend more money on this place, and I will not recommend others to go either. read more

Decent sushi, worth it when there's a BOGO deal but not worth otherwise due to pretty high prices. I tried Eel avocado roll, Alaskan roll, Shrimp tempura, and Gaijian, and all were good but nothing memorable. I went to Fat Fish for yelp's Be My Elite event and got BOGO regular sushi rolls. I had the avocado and cucumber roll and my friend had the spicy salmon roll. I didn't think they were very flavorful and took a very long time to come out. We also ordered the green roll and the wharf roll but they took even longer to come out. They ended up giving me a garden roll instead of a green roll, but the food took so long that I didn't have time for them to remake what I ordered. I was staying in a hotel down on the Wharf and was in need of a quick dinner - knowing everything in the area was going to run about $20, I didn't scoff at the prices at Fat Fish (but they're still kind of high - it was $22 for a create your own bowl w/ tax + tip). I created my own poke bowl and by the time the person was done making it, it was quite a hefty bowl. All in all, the fish and veggies seemed fresh (and wasn't worrisomely fishy). I liked that most of the add-ons/mix-ins weren't an extra fee. And everything was seasoned quite well too (although some of that must be attributed to the sauces and stuff I added on the bowl myself). You order through a tablet in the front and then wait for your order/name to be called. I just got a cherry blossom soft serve. It's very pretty pink and came out quickly even though the store was filled with people waiting for their orders. The flavor of the ice cream pretty much tasted like rose. The texture was really smooth, pretty creamy, but not in a super thick way, more on the lighter side. If I could give this 0 stars I would. I have NEVER EVER thrown away food even if it tastes bad because I don't like wasting food or money. This is also the first time I've felt so strongly to give a bad review when I never review on yelp. But their soft serve taiyaki is SO BAD. NOT WORTH $12. I could buy two taiyaki that's fresh and filled with custard for half that price. The chai didn't taste like chai is was just barely spiced and the black sesame didn't taste like anything. The worst part is the taiyaki was HARD. Like a fortune cookie. I thought that was on purpose until I ate the thicker part that was so dry that I threw it out immediately. I saw other reviews of people saying the soft serve is bad and gave it 3-4 stars. I have no clue why they're being so nice. read more

It took a while to make even though there were three employees and no one else there so I was a little annoyed but once it came out everything in it was great. Fresh poke coming to the wharf! First time trying out fat fish for lunch. It is a great lunch spot. It has all the fresh ingredients and you get to pick all the toppings you would like on it. You can customize your own bowl or pick the bowl from the menu. I love the spicy salmon with their spicy Mayo! The base can be rice or mixed greens, I do wish there was another option for the base like kale noodles. But overall, this is a great lunch spot! Food was good, however, during the ordering process I noticed there's a lack of toppings which I thought was strange, especially for those who don't always want toppings and would prefer to keep their food toppings to a minimum. Additionally, the electronic ordering process was something I strongly despise. Furthermore, the service lacked any sort of personal interaction from occurring making it difficult to customize my order since everything had to be done via tablet. For the price I paid for my food, I'd expect there to be more seating as well as a restroom. I did a custom bowl with spicy tuna, avocado, cucumbers and bang bang shrimp (I was excepting the bang bang to be fried but it's actually better that's it's not). It was pretty expensive about $27 with taxes and tip but worth it when I want to treat myself. The ordering is a little confusing if you've never been there. I wish they had a sign that directed you to order on the screen. The woman who made my bowl was the only person working and she was working her booty off, props to her. I have to preface this review by saying we did not try any savory food here, but were incredibly pleased with the soft service ice cream in the tatami cones. We got the wild blueberry lavender and honey oat vanilla swirl and it was perfectly sweet and well-complimented with the cone that was soft, but not too soft. I will say the cone did leak a bit so it's good to eat fast. But the flavors of the ice cream were so spot on. You could really taste the lavender, which I find is often too subtle in ice cream and the honey and oat were both present in the vanilla flavor. Really liked this place and hope they expand to other locations! The fish is *fresh* and very well flavored in the poke. Ambiance is bright and welcoming (the restaurant itself is a strangely narrow shape but they make it work - there is indoor and outdoor seating). Staff is friendly though you order at a kiosk (I would take points off for this if I didn't like the food so much, it's an awkward computer system that shows you all of their other orders depending on where you click). I ordered the sushi bento box which mashes up all of their offerings (poke, sushi and a tiny adorable Taiyaki dessert) in addition to salad and a fried shrimp. The portion seemed a little small but kept me full for awhile. They have a wide assortment of pokes at reasonable a price point for the area and I'm looking forward to trying more of them on a return visit. Overall I would give the whole experience a 3.5/5 stars. Saw this place on Instagram so decided to check it out since it was a beautiful day and a friend was in town. While the building is small, the menu seems to have a lot to offer. However, I had come strictly for the swirl ice cream in a taiyaki cone. If you're coming from the Wharf, it's tucked behind District Doughnut, if you're coming from 12th/Maine, the entrance is on the other side of the building. I ordered the taiyaki cone with a matcha/ube swirl in a cup while my friend ordered the ube in a waffle cone. While the ice cream was really creamy, it tasted more like vanilla than matcha or ube. I was also really bummed that the ice cream I received was already melting before I left the shop. The taiyaki also really lacked flavor. Rather than it tasting lightly sweetened and a slight crispy exterior, the cone was extremely bready and not flavorful. Since it didn't have anything to offer on the inside (like red bean or custard), it didn't really taste like anything other than bread (which also wasn't fully cooked near the tail). While I do think this place has potential, upon first visit, it fell short. I would revisit if they were to work on the consistency of their product and the flavor/texture of their taiyaki. It would also really help if the workers were just a little bit more attentive to their customers, it felt like an assembly line of food preparers without any life. read more
