We came to Catahoula to celebrate my cousin's birthday, and unfortunately what should have been a great evening turned into an extremely disappointing experience. One person in our party never received her entrée while everyone else at the table received their food. When this was finally addressed, she was told that the wagyu she had ordered "wasn't good anyway" and was asked if she wanted something else. She initially didn't want anything at that point, but the rest of us encouraged her to order something because she hadn't eaten all day. She eventually ordered the mussels, which were also delayed while the rest of the table had already eaten. My cousin, whose birthday we were celebrating, attempted to speak with management about how the situation had been handled. Rather than feeling that anyone was genuinely concerned about resolving the issue, the interaction became increasingly unpleasant. I then spoke with an individual who became involved in the situation and asked for his name and title. He repeatedly refused to provide either. What made the interaction especially bizarre was that while refusing to identify himself, he asked for MY name and then asked where I worked. I answered both questions and told him my employer. His response was, "Oh, I hate x." Another employee later identified him to me as Jordan Davidowitz. I'm still trying to understand why where I work was relevant to a restaurant service issue--or why someone representing the restaurant thought that was an appropriate response to a customer asking for his name. Restaurants make mistakes. An entrée can get missed, an order can be delayed, and a kitchen can have an off night. What determines whether I return is how those mistakes are handled. A sincere apology and an effort to make things right would have gone a long way. Instead, we left feeling that our concerns were an inconvenience and that the situation had unnecessarily become confrontational. I've contacted Catahoula's ownership directly to share what happened and give them an opportunity to address it. I hope they do, because the way this situation was handled was completely inconsistent with the level of hospitality I would expect from a restaurant where a family chose to celebrate a special occasion.
I had a great dining experience! The food was delicious, customer service was great and the restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. My favorite food items were the stewed chicken, dirty rice and parmesan oysters and fried okra. Rosy, our server, was attentive.
I'm so glad it's restaurant week because I definitely took advantage and so glad I did! Situated at Navy Yard, Catahoula, opened only 4 months ago, offers Cajun/creole cuisine great dining with waterfront views and even a rooftop patio to enjoy! We went for restaurant week and so glad we chose that location. We started off on the rooftop for cocktails. We all ordered the Butterfly margarita! They were so good. They had the perfect sweet to spirit ratio. Disclaimer: they were strong so you only need 2, if that!!! After drinks, we headed downstairs for dinner. There was no wait (went on a Thursday evening at 7:30). We were immediately greeted and sat by Reggie and our server was James! We were taken care of!!! Service was amazing and made the experience even better! Food: the food was 4 courses for $55 and everything was full size! Some of the options were brunch options. We were offered a complimentary watermelon salad with onions, smoked Gouda and a vinegarette (chefs kiss). We ordered white cheddar jalapeño biscuits w/pepper jelly, corn guppies w/honey butter for starters. Our second courses included oysters and gumbo (wonderful). Our third courses included blackened catfish w/succotash and the fried alligator (Cocodrie à l'Orange) with white rice and we topped it off with beignets. That food was so good lol. We needed ordering a side of dirty rice and fried green tomatoes. I would highly recommend this place for a cute girls night out or dinner with Bae!
Came here to cap off the night with some drinks and light food. They had the LSU vs Ole Miss game playing and was surprisingly a great place to catch the game. The rooftop has a giant screen and 2 other TVs broadcast the game. Even the courtyard on the 1st level has a large screen made of 4 TVs playing the game. We ordered Pim's Cup and a French 75 both drinks were well received but the highlight for us were the Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits with Hot Jelly. You only get 2, but these are quality biscuits that can't be beat. We enjoyed the game and the view from the rooftop; definitely one do the few places in Navy Yard with a view like that. Check out Catahoula, you won't be disappointed!
My second time here was pretty good. They have a great restaurant week menu, four courses for $55 was an amazing deal. Everything was portioned very well. The corn guppies were basically mini cornbread fritters. I didn't love the sauce underneath but the guppies were good. I also loved their char broiled oysters they were very tasty. My favorite dish (wasn't on restaurant week) were the bbq shrimp. Absolutely loved. The shrimp po boy was also good, absolutely loved their fries as well. The only thing I did not love was the crème brûlée... a little too orangey and the custard tasted similar to sweet potatoes.

I was so disappointed that I didn't even try their crème brûlée, which is my all time fav. This place is overhyped & the food & crowd are not worth it again.

I made a reservation for an adult night out and was able to choose between indoor and outdoor seating. With the weather being a little unpredictable, I opted for the dining room. We arrived a little early and had a short wait for our table, which was completely fine. Once we sat down, we ordered drinks and... WHEW. Those drinks were GOOD. Like, "okay, we're off to a great start" good. We started with a dozen oysters and the white cheddar jalapeño biscuits with pepper jelly. Both were delicious. The oysters tasted fresh, and the biscuits were definitely one of the highlights of the meal. That pepper jelly was the perfect touch. For our entrees, I went with the seafood boil and added lobster, while my dinner partner ordered the alligator. Both dishes were tasty, although he did feel like the alligator portion was a little small. Even with the rice, he still felt like he could have used a little more meat. Now, we were FULL. But there was no way I was leaving a New Orleans inspired spot without trying the beignets. We ordered some to go, and let me tell you... those things were NEVER making it home. We were eating them before we even made it to the truck. Overall, Catahoula delivered a really good experience. The drinks were excellent, the food was good, and the hospitality was probably my favorite part. From the host to our server to the front of house manager, everyone was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming. My only real critiques? The seafood boil could have been seasoned a little more, and the alligator portion could have been more generous. Would I go back? Absolutely. I could especially see myself coming back for happy hour. Being right across from Nationals Park makes Catahoula a pretty convenient spot for drinks and food before or after a game. 4.5/5 for me. Great drinks, good food, excellent service and those beignets? Yeah... I'm coming back for those.
Loving this place. We've visited seven times now and have tried all three spaces. They have a more formal sit down dining area, a casual sports area, and a lovely wine bar rooftop area (modeled off of Baccanal in NOLA). They have really great food and drinks. We've tried their poor boys, cooked and raw oysters, fried okra,etc. they are constantly updating the menu. Recently they added an à la carte boil option which is option to get only what you want instead of just the $50+crawfish and accompanying items. The crab legs are excellent. The frozen drinks are great. The staff are super wonderful and the resins really beautiful. This has become one of our favorite places.
I had to check out the new restaurant on the block! I used to live in New Orleans so I had very high expectations for a place inspired by New Orleans cuisine and overall style. They did a great job with the space. It's beautiful, warm with plenty of character. We went during the week so it wasn't too crowded. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. There aren't any TVs inside but they do have some out side if you want to catch a game. The service was pretty good. We visited within the first few weeks of the restaurant opening, so a lot of the staff were still learning and adapting but everything went fairly well overall. Now the food! We tried a few items: the okra, oysters, shrimp po boy, heritage corn guppies and of course had to wrap up the meal with beignets. My friend really enjoyed the oysters. I thought the okra and the shrimp po boy were okay but wasn't the biggest fan of the guppies. The beignets though, were pretty good! The drinks were pretty good too. I had the Hurricane which was strong and tasty and i would definitely order it again. Overall it was a solid experience. I would come back to try other items on the menu and I would definitely return for drinks and beignets. One thing I wish they had was a daiquiri machine. It would be a great addition to the New Orleans theme and probably an easy way to get people in for a drink at the bar. Think about it!
This was our first visit to Catahoula. The greeter was outstanding. He helped us under the menu and the best items to order. We had Steak and Eggs, Gumbo, Jalapeño cheddar biscuits, Corn Guppies, and a Crawfish Omelette. The food is New Orleans inspired with a mix of soul food. The restaurant is really cute, it faces the water, and there's an upstairs covered terrace.
I came here to join friends watching the world cup. The original plan was to go to solace but they were packed do we went here instead got their version of the hurricane and it was good. See picture. They have lots of frozen drinks which was a welcome respite from the hot weather. I like the patio seating with the big TV set up. Parking in the area is street only I had no idea finding any given the time of day The place is new so I would give it a shot
Catahoula is cute and right by the water in navy yard. We got a Pimm's cup which is my favorite drink, just a bit on the lighter side. My and my husband tried the seafood boil. We should've asked the waiter how to get the meat out of the crawfish as it wasn't the easiest! Flavor was good and we also got an appetizer to share. It's also a bit spicy so beware!

Came back to Catahoula for a second time and once again, I was not disappointed. My parents were in town, so we decided to do happy hour here. We originally thought it was still extended Restaurant Week, but that turned out to be a dupe lol. Luckily, I had already been here before, so I knew the place would still be worth it. We got the oysters, I finally tried the mussels, and honestly we worked our way through most of the happy hour food menu. You really can't go wrong with the happy hour margaritas either. Sitting outside is perfect when the weather is nice, and the whole setup just has a really good vibe. The chicken dish, which is more like a rich chicken stew, was also a hit. You definitely have to check out their wine bar experience too. It's such a cute addition and honestly feels like the perfect new spot for the city. read more

Such a sexy spot with a great view of the Anacostia river. The location is unique as it's nestled between a high rise and the river. While the inside is intimate and low lighting, the patio and rooftop is a bit rustic. We enjoyed happy hour on the rooftop patio. The first thing I look for during happy hour are the prices. Anything above $10 is a red flag but there were some decent options to choose from - huitres cru and Oysters Evangeline and some very strong Butterfly Margaritas. I thought the raw oysters could be cleaned better but the Evangeline were perfectly seasoned. Some other menu items that were delicious - Oysters Parmesan, lobster etouffee, blackened catfish po boy (no bread) and petite filet with bone marrow. We tried the heritage corn guppies which were good but soggy, not deep fried like regular hush puppies. Service could've been a little better. The bartender doubled as the server. There was a party going but it did feel like we were not tended to like the other patrons (the ones not part of the party). We had to keep searching for him and he was a bit too sarcastic for my liking. Overall this is a great spot for drinks and oysters. Next time I'll sit inside for dinner to see if it's a different experience read more

Catahoula is a recently opened restaurant with New Orleans-inspired cuisine right on the waterfront in Navy yard. It has a great patio with views of the Anacostia River, and also another patio with TVs. I met up with a friend here for dinner and was seated promptly when I arrived. We tried a number of dishes and cocktails. The drinks were my favorite, followed by the thrice baked potato. I started with the Oysters Evangeline, and I thought this was just okay. I probably wouldn't order this again as there are much better and cheaper options in DC. I also had the barbecue shrimp for my main dish. I wouldn't say this reminds me of what I've had in New Orleans, but it was a solid dish. We also ordered the shrimp po boy, corn guppies, and beignets. Overall it was a good experience, and I will absolutely be back for drinks, especially if they one day implement a happy hour. read more

As a lover of all things creole, I chose this restaurant for dinner with a bit of skepticism LOL From the Hostess to the server to the manager, the staff was very hospitable and accommodating . I ordered a Grenade, a cup of Gumbo and the boil. I will say that this dining experience is the CLOSEST that ai have found to eating in NAWLINS. I didn't order any Oysters however all the rest of our food was delicious. The flavor was on point and the service matched. So, at the recommendation of James, our server, we ordered the pecan cinnamon roll. It was just the right amount of sweet, and airy. I recommend it for as long as they have it on the menu. I'll be back to try the beniets read more
I was really excited to come here for my birthday dinner! I made a reservation for 8 about a month in advance for the cocktail garden. I arrived a bit later than the rest of my party and we were seated inside which was a little bit of a bummer since it was a gorgeous night! Our server Scott took great care of us and they were able to accommodate rearranging the tables because I had one cancellation. I had the shrimp poboy which was hefty! Classic NOLA leidenheimer bread and it was definitely loaded with crispy fried shrimp and toppings. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well - the corn and crab bisque was a hit as was the fricassee acadienne! We got some free tiramisu for dessert which got ok reviews (a little dry) but I was really there for the beignets! They are probably the most authentic I've had outside New Orleans which was impressive. Would come back for these alone! The restaurant itself was cute but not particularly New Orleans in decor/vibe except the voodoo wall in the back corner! I didn't realize they also have Vietnamese-Cajun fusion and would be interested to try the Viet dishes on the menu as well. read more

This a new restaurant that opened up this year in Navy Yard area. Had dinner with friends and tried several items on the menu. Service is great and the ambiance is good. Plenty of seating outside and inside. The restaurant is water facing. Ordered the Po Boy Fried Shrimp, Oyster, Beignet, lobster bisque and fried okra. All great food and will done here again. read more

I will be back for their seafood boil when they add it to the menu very soon. Chef Thomas Malz his team was incredibly sweet and I appreciate their hospitality on their opening day. Great service, especially from management. Even though tee had reservations, we had to wait because the prior guests had not left yet. The staff comped us with free appetizers, which was really nice. We tried the shrimp appetizer, oyster po boy, and seafood boil. The shrimp appetizer has great flavors, especially with their sauce. The seafood boil was very fresh and delicious. The po boy, while good was a little too much breaded when it came to the oysters. Overall a good experience. read more
Lots of outdoor seating overlooking the Anacostia River. A high selling point for the restaurant. Perfect for the after work calming dinner. Lots of po boy sandwiches to choose from. The menu is light on the entrees. No complaints on the steak frites, lobster jambalaya, oyster/shrimp po boys. They all were reported tasty. My lobster etouffee was just enough. Appetizers were tasty. Biscuits were pricey $8 for only 2. Not on the main menu. Drinks were strong! Service was average. We had to look for our server just too many times. read more

I came in tonight just as the kitchen had closed, fully expecting to be turned away. Instead, the owner came out with a smile and said, "I'll open it back up just for you. What would you like?" That kind of hospitality is almost unheard of these days, and it perfectly reflects who they are. I ordered the oyster po'boy, and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and made with care. Ever since Catahoula opened, they've treated my family and me like we're eating in their home. We've been here at least eight times, and every visit has been consistently outstanding. The food is always incredible, but what truly sets this restaurant apart is the people. If something isn't quite right, they make it right with a smile, genuine kindness, and without hesitation. You never feel like an inconvenience. They truly care about every guest and want you to leave happy. There are plenty of restaurants with great food, but it's rare to find one that makes you feel like family. Every time we walk through the doors at Catahoula, that's exactly how we're treated. It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back--not just for the amazing Cajun food, but for the warmth, generosity, and heartfelt hospitality. If you're in Navy Yard and looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Catahoula should be at the top of your list. They've earned loyal customers in us, and we'll be back again and again. read more

AMAZING this dinner was one of the best I've had in DC, and definitely the best dinner I've had this year! Their caesar salad croutons are actually fried cheese!! The po boys were also delicious and flavorful (and filling!), and I loved loved loved the biscuits! I will be back for a brunch and some dessert soon!! read more
Nice atmosphere, charbroiled oysters were tasty. The bbq shrimp wasnt as 'creamy' as the versions i prefer but still delicious. I would order again. I havent had many french dips but theirs was delish- also repeat worthy! Id like to try the other po boys there. read more
My wife and I stopped by this restaurant after a nationals game. We were fortunate to be able to sit outside to be able to was the World Cup game. I ordered the blackened catfish po' boy and my wife ordered the chicken Caesar salad, and we got an order of fries to share. The blackened catfish po' boy may have been one of the best sandwiches I have had. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a nice flavor, and the roll and toppings were very fresh. The fries also had a nice seasoning to them along with a flavorful dipping sauce. My wife said her salad was also very fresh and had a good taste to it. It was a busy evening and we were outside so the service was a little on the slower side. read more

I wanted to give Catahoula a try after seeing Maura.GFconcierge (IG) review it, and coming off of a recent work trip to New Orleans. I had a fantastic experience and a wonderful dinner. They have a separate GF menu, and are very attentive and careful. I tried the raw oysters, oysters Evangeline, thrice baked potato, and blackened catfish. Everything was absolutely delicious. For cocktails; I recommend the Pimm's Cup or Chickory Old Fashioned. My only negative point: My partner ordered the steak frites medium rare and it was a little overcooked. read more

This is a newer restaurant in navy yard, used to be all purpose pizzeria. Decor and ambiance is nice, we sat at the bar area and service was great. Drinks are carefully curated and crafted which is nice. The food was good too, it's nice to have a little taste of NOLA in DC, even though nothing beats NOLA. Catahoula, the new Cajun/Creole restaurant in Navy Yard, received a 3 out of 10 from me. I started with the French 75, but unfortunately, their Hand Grenande machine was broken upon opening. Next, I ordered the Oyster Evangeline, which the server described as the same as the oyster Rockefeller in Louisiana. However, it tasted more like tomato sauce on top of baby oysters. I also ordered BBQ shrimp, which were overcooked and the sauce was way too thick. As we know, BBQ shrimp in Louisiana doesn't use real BBQ sauce. We then ordered gumbo and sent it back. I've never sent food back before, but it tasted like the roux had nothing but tomato paste in it. My friend ordered the hurricane drink, which was okay. I tasted the crawfish from the next table because it was $55. They tasted like crawfish from Up North that's full of butter in a bag. So glad I didn't order it myself. We ended our meal with a Shrimp poboy and Sausage poboy. They were the best things on the menu. Probably like a 7 out of 10 because the shrimp aren't Gulf-sized. The twice-baked potato was also good. They were out of beignets as well. I was overall disappointed because I'm from Louisiana. The manager came over and tried to explain that they use Louisiana flavors with their own twist, but it still didn't make up for the overall disappointment. read more

Loved our happy hour at Catahoula tonight! Runs until 6 pm, and the deals, drinks, and food were all excellent. We were so excited to try spot out, and it didn't disappoint. The oysters Evangeline were the highlight - so flavorful and unique. All of our cocktails were delicious and strong, and nothing we ordered disappointed. The gumbo was also fantastic. Service was quick, attentive, and kind. And the entire restaurant felt like you were being transported somewhere down south - a perfect balance of DC water ambiance with New Orleans charm. I went for happy hour at the bar. I was excited to try this place since it's relatively new in the Navy Yard. I also thought Ronnie, the outdoor host, had great energy l. Unfortunately, the energy ended there. I expect an engaging experience while sitting at the bar, especially for a place that claims to be upscale. Bartender was laisse faire, minimal interactions with customers, no engagement. I had the lemonade cocktail, gumbo, and beef sliders... all on happy hour. I find that your happy hour specials signal feature aspects of your restaurant. The food was fine. The gumbo had good flavor: however, it was room temp and there was a film on the top that indicated to me it sat on the counter for a while before being served. The beef (debris) sliders were just ok to me, nothing special. I may go again but not gonna be a regular stop for me. read more

We went to rooftop after a United game and had some drinks. The bartender was a bit overwhelmed but overall they have a decent selection drinks and wines (more bottle options than by the glass). But the best thing by far was the view and vibes. The weather was perfect and so was the view. read more

I took my boyfriend out for Father's Day and we had a wonderful experience. The host seated us even though they weren't actually open yet. Our server Joe was amazing! He checked on us throughout the whole dining experience. There was an issue with my lobster étouffée and Joe and the manager Jordan handled it perfectly. We asked about the upstairs area and the manager. Jordan took us upstairs and asked the Bartender to get us an order of beignets. This is the type of establishment that I like to go to; not because of how good the food is, but because the service is excellent! Thank you for making this father's day special! Oh and I received a complementary bowl of their corn and crab chowder! It was so good! read more
