Catahoula DC is hands down one of the BEST restaurants in Navy Yard. OMG -- I'm in love. From Ronnie the greeter, to the owner, to the two chefs personally coming out to greet us because the food was so delicious -- the hospitality was truly top tier. The moment you walk in, especially being on the water, it genuinely transports you to New Orleans. And trust me, we would know -- we've been to New Orleans 5 times. The food? Absolutely incredible. The BBQ shrimp was AMAZING. I had it the first time we went and literally had to order it again the very next day. The gumbo was perfect, the corn chowder was simple yet somehow transformative, and the catfish salad with the cheese croutons was delicious. Then the chefs blessed us with carrot cake and beignets to top it all off. We didn't even get a chance to take pictures of the food because it was THAT good -- all we have are empty plates to prove it! If you don't get the chance to visit New Orleans, this is probably the closest experience you're going to get right here in DC. The food, hospitality, atmosphere, and authentic feel are everything. This is truly one of the best restaurants in Navy Yard. Do yourself a favor and GO.

I really enjoyed the food, the blackened catfish po boy was huge and very tasty, a little salty but overall very good. I completely LOVED the fries, order them!! They are cooked in beef tallow and I could not stop eating them. The beignets were also so fluffy and pillowy and dusted heavily in powered sugar. The only star I took off was for the service. When we first entered the service was phenomenal and the staff was so nice. However after sitting there for a while, it seemed like we were kind of ignored. We also noticed that the server offered the table next to us complimentary chocolate mousse with their beignets and it hadn't been offered to us, when asked, the server said the manager selects who should receive the complimentary mousse which I feel like if offered to one table it should be offered to everyone. Other than that it was a pleasant experience and I'd be open to trying other items at another time.

Catahoula, the new Cajun/Creole restaurant in Navy Yard, received a 3 out of 10 from me. I started with the French 75, but unfortunately, their Hand Grenande machine was broken upon opening. Next, I ordered the Oyster Evangeline, which the server described as the same as the oyster Rockefeller in Louisiana. However, it tasted more like tomato sauce on top of baby oysters. I also ordered BBQ shrimp, which were overcooked and the sauce was way too thick. As we know, BBQ shrimp in Louisiana doesn't use real BBQ sauce. We then ordered gumbo and sent it back. I've never sent food back before, but it tasted like the roux had nothing but tomato paste in it. My friend ordered the hurricane drink, which was okay. I tasted the crawfish from the next table because it was $55. They tasted like crawfish from Up North that's full of butter in a bag. So glad I didn't order it myself. We ended our meal with a Shrimp poboy and Sausage poboy. They were the best things on the menu. Probably like a 7 out of 10 because the shrimp aren't Gulf-sized. The twice-baked potato was also good. They were out of beignets as well. I was overall disappointed because I'm from Louisiana. The manager came over and tried to explain that they use Louisiana flavors with their own twist, but it still didn't make up for the overall disappointment.

My wife and I stopped by this restaurant after a nationals game. We were fortunate to be able to sit outside to be able to was the World Cup game. I ordered the blackened catfish po' boy and my wife ordered the chicken Caesar salad, and we got an order of fries to share. The blackened catfish po' boy may have been one of the best sandwiches I have had. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a nice flavor, and the roll and toppings were very fresh. The fries also had a nice seasoning to them along with a flavorful dipping sauce. My wife said her salad was also very fresh and had a good taste to it. It was a busy evening and we were outside so the service was a little on the slower side.

The food was fantastic! What I ordered: Fried Okra Traditional Shrimp Po'Boy + French Fries Classic Powdered Beignets Disco punch Best meal ive had! I will be back for their seafood boil when they add it to the menu very soon. Chef Thomas Malz his team was incredibly sweet and I appreciate their hospitality on their opening day. I took my boyfriend out for Father's Day and we had a wonderful experience. The host seated us even though they weren't actually open yet. Our server Joe was amazing! He checked on us throughout the whole dining experience. There was an issue with my lobster étouffée and Joe and the manager Jordan handled it perfectly. We asked about the upstairs area and the manager. Jordan took us upstairs and asked the Bartender to get us an order of beignets. This is the type of establishment that I like to go to; not because of how good the food is, but because the service is excellent! Thank you for making this father's day special! Oh and I received a complementary bowl of their corn and crab chowder! It was so good!

The food was really good. The only thing I was disappointed with was the beignets. I got an oyster poboy, caser salad, beignets, spicy orange chicken, and an alcoholic beverage. The service was really good. They even made the beignets over for me. There is outdoor seating and indoor seating. There is even an upstairs area for just drinks and light snacks like a charcuterie board. TV's are also located outside if you want to watch the game and enjoy the water.

Always good to see a new spot in Navy Yard! We went to one of their first days open so they were still working out the kinks but service was very friendly and I love the concept.

This is a newer restaurant in navy yard, used to be all purpose pizzeria. Decor and ambiance is nice, we sat at the bar area and service was great. Drinks are carefully curated and crafted which is nice. The food was good too, it's nice to have a little taste of NOLA in DC, even though nothing beats NOLA. Not pictured is the shrimp po'boy and oysters.

Vibes and food were on poin, sat outside and enjoyed the weather. The service and hospitality was amazing. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend.

Daiquiri on the left, hand grenade on the right

Came here for dinner on a Saturday Night and was thoroughly surprised! Having a reservation was a great idea! It was really busy! Dinner and drinks were great! We got a seafood boil ( it wasn't on the menu but we asked our server and she helped us out; it came with Crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, potatoes, corn, and mushrooms), one shrimp and one oyster "poor" boy, beignets, with a hand grenade, daiquiri, Bourbon Cherry lemonade, and hurricane. The drinks were really good and the food was a good step in the right direction for DC restaurants' take on Louisiana food, where flavor and taste are often toned down for presentation and experience. Service was amazing! Our server Rosie was extremely helpful and gave detailed explanations that helped our choices. We ordered some fries and she was sure to explain how they make their fries so that we could be sure to order the vegetarian fries. She also came and checked on us numerous times while offering great spirit and humor to everyone in our section. The atmosphere was also really well done. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather and views of Navy Yard. It was supposed to rain so they had taken everything from outside in preparation, but the rain never came. They quickly set everything back up and had people seated in no time.

They definitely got it right in the flavor department and the drinks are good as well. Can't wait to come back this summer and sit outside.

I was pulling up Yelp to see what bar we wanted to go after and saw this on the list. We were initially going to go to the karaoke bar next door but when we walked inside, it was wayyyy too loud and obnoxious so we were like perfect let's go across the street! We walk into the ramen spot and ask where the speakeasy is and the guy led us to the back and showed us to some stairs to go down. Seriously, how COOL is this place??? The neon lights were so fun! We walked into the bar and immediately loved it! Good amount of bar seating plus some comfy couches and whatnot. There was music but it wasn't too obnoxious, we were still able to have conversations - it was surprisingly chill and exactly what we were looking for. Chatted to the bartender who made some fancy shots for us, had a few drinks. It was not busy at all on a Sat night which was nice. It is very dark inside even with the neon lights so it does make it hard to read the menus (had to use flashlights on our phone). But super fun spot, fun drinks, not too expensive, and a neat and chill experience! It was an excellent find for us for sure!

Trouble Bird was the answer to my prayers on a recent trip, where I was looking to have high quality drinks and a laid-back NON-commercial vibe with my team. We liked it so much, we came twice in one week, and I was impressed at their ability to handle and be comfortable for a large group in a space that can feel intimate. The lighting is nice and moody, the menu available via QR code, and the WiFi free and listed with password for patrons to use. We had excellent service both times, by the two folks working each night for a groups of 6-8 each time. There was something for everyone from the nondrinkers to the beer enthusiasts, to cocktail aficionados like myself. There's an amazing happy hour deal, with discounts on drinks all Monday and reduced prices for a couple of hours on other weekdays; it almost felt criminal how generous the happy hour was when I've gotten used to paying $20 for a mediocre cocktail at other nearby establishments. And the cocktails here are really very good, probably the best in the area, except for their immediate next door neighbor. The group favorite cocktail was the Midori sour which was incredibly well balanced and refreshing, and the surprising crowd pleaser was the Hamilton Dry Float, which came in a creepy tiki mug presentation that we really loved. We had a couple of the bar bites - the spiced peanuts were well loved across the group but my person favorite food item was the blistered shishitos, which came with a great chipotle aioli. The bathrooms are extremely clean and overall this was a bar favorite for the group for our week of going out and socializing together. Overall this is a gem of a neighborhood hangout with really excellent cocktails and service! Will absolutely come here next time I'm in town!
