Pesto FETTUCCINE ALFREDO WITH CHICHEN. Get it! The Bomb!

The food was amazing. I love me an authentic Italian restaurant. Service was so personable. Celebrated my birthday and they greeted me and guest every time with our names.

Trattoria Alberto was recommend by friends who have lived on the Hill for over 3 decades. We met for dinner and enjoyed a meal together. They recommended the Avocado salad to start. It was delicious. The avocado was pleasantly soft and ripe. The dressing wasn't over bearing and just the right amount. What a nice start to a meal. The menu is extensive - I wasn't sure if I should I order pasta or a protein that's served with pasta. I decided on Chicken piccata with gluten free pasta. They offer gluten free variations and vegetarian dishes. The chicken piccata was cooked perfectly. The only issue was the side of pasta. It wasn't served with gluten free pasta. However, the server quickly noticed and replaced it. I didn't have to ask. He knew and fixed it. The service it great at Trattoria Alberto and so is their at home feeling when dining. It's not rushed.

"Veal a La Boehner," named for Rep. John Boehner. It's fried veal, fried egg and anchovies. It's different! I'll be back for it again!

Read about this place in John Boehner's book, "On The House." He described the atmosphere as a local hole in the wall style place with good Italian food. He was right! I ordered the calamari and veal a La Boehner! Both were great!

I really wanted to give this place four stars for the level of service provided from beginning to end, but I just couldn't bring myself to it based on the cost. The night we stopped in we decided to sit outside since given a choice and they do have covers and heaters for the remaining cool Spring evenings. They have an extensive beverage menu, so you won't have difficultly selecting a wine or drink choice via the bar. The menu has a wide range of Italian dishes to choose from as well as traditional salads and antipasti. The food was above average and no one was disappointed with any item ordered and I was satisfied with my chicken parmesan dish. Four stars for the quality and portions of food, but as I mentioned at the outset the value brings the overall rating down. The street the restaurant is on is highly competitive and would it be hard to justify coming back here based on the cost.

I can't say enough great things about this place. My best friend has been taking me here for my birthday for the past two years and there is nothing but great service and delicious food every time. The restaurant is cute and not too far from the Navy Yard. They have a nice variety of wines, so many entrees to choose from, and desserts that make you an offer you can't refuse. Worth a visit if you enjoy Italian food and you're in the DC area.

Visiting DC from Phoenix, AZ and this was the first stop on our trip. Amazing pasta, some of the best I've ever had. I got the fettuccine alfredo and my wife got the penne arrabbiata, both were excellent. Also we were impressed with the portion sizes. Had a good amount of leftovers. Highly recommend this place if you want some outstanding authentic Italian food!

Bruschetta and Lasagna both were amazing! Staff was friendly and accommodating of our party of 6. Nice place to take a date.

I am obsessed with the vibes here. I went for a intimate date night. I had the tortellini pasta. My boyfriend had the veal piccata. We shared the garlic bread as well. For dessert, we had the creme brulee. Food was good but the service, family feel, and character of the place made it for us. We are not local to the DC area but will make this a staple when we return. Being from out of town I would give this place $$$ for price. Worth it.

I'm a long time neighborhood customer. This used to be my local Italian go to spot but the prices are a bit too much for the quality of food. The food is homemade and ok, but these are Ristorante Filomena prices with smaller portions. Maybe it's because of covid-19. I will give them another chance post covid.

    Assorted Antipasto for 2

We were really excited to try out this place for my best friends birthday. We got there and our server was already rude and short, and acted as if he did not care in the slightest. We ordered our drinks and eventually our appetizer (when he did come over, which was like a total of 3 times and it was not busy). We ordered the antipasto meat and cheese board for two, and I was actually shocked at what came out. It was quite literally deli meats rolled up with deli sliced cheese and random vegetables. It was unlike anything I had ever seen at any Italian restaurant. Not to mention when sending it back our server was rude once again. When the table next to us came in our server read them specials, went over constantly, and ultimately gave them a great experience. He barely asked us what we wanted for dinner. The manager seemed to not care one bit about this either when we were so clearly unhappy. Not to mention, when seeing it was my friends birthday on her ID, they didn't say a word- and we saw them bring out dessert for another birthday, but this option, along with others, was not given to us. I genuinely have never had such a bad service experience in my life. The pasta was mid and the wine was good. I will never be coming back here due to the horrendous service.

You can taste that somebody actually cares about what goes into the body here. The sourcing is on another level and honestly rivals places like Elizabeth's Gone Raw, except without the "special occasion only" pricing. Every plate had depth, freshness, and balance without feeling heavy or chemically loaded. I planned to eat light and completely failed. I ended up ordering two desserts without an ounce of regret. That almost never happens for me. The cleanliness also deserves its own paragraph. The bathrooms were spotless. The dining room, floors, details, service flow, all of it felt maintained with pride instead of obligation. Nothing about the experience felt lazy, rushed, or phoned in. This place understands food, ingredients, atmosphere, and hospitality at the same time. That combination is rare, I will be back with friends !

Thank goodness for Ama for adding back some character to the area with its North Italian charm! My friend and I ordered the rabbit stew, which was delicate and tender. It was served with a thick slice of sourdough bread which we used to sop up the tasty tomato and fennel based stew. I don't see rabbit much on menus these days, and this was a unique dish that pleased the palate! We also ordered artichoke and lemon for appetizer, and an al dente spinach and cheese ravioli, which was recommended by our server. For dessert we shared a caramel pie a la mode, which was a little overly sweet. Everything was nicely done, though, but in small portions. My only complaint was that my friend and I were still hungry after two main dishes and an appetizer! I like how light the dishes are, but they could use a little more heft portion-wise (and this is coming from someone who doesn't eat huge meals usually - so that might be saying something). Or perhaps add on an extra dish and get more than you think. Ama seems to have good happy hour deals and they also have a cafe/coffee side of the restaurant that opens at 8 a.m. At a quick glance of the menu, you'll get a sense of the restaurant's whole ethos. They stand for many idealistic values, including a menu that was approved by integrated nutritionists. Hopefully these values are sustainable to maintain! Everything is organic, with no seed oils or refined sugars - not even in the dessert! Even their cookware is plastic-free and PFAS-free. They also go into a few paragraphs about their state of the art water filtration system on site for all cooking/drinking. Beyond the health of the food/drink for customers, they extend this healthy mindfulness to their employees, offering full health insurance benefits to all their employees (with a ~3.85% health wellness charge to customers). Even with the extra charge, our overall bill wasn't too high for two people. Hopefully Ama continues to adhere to all their promises and values. Would love to come back to support again. Restaurant margins can be super slim these days, so I'm glad they don't cut corners.

The leek and lettuce within the lemon butter sauce was to die for, and the girasoli itself was pleasant and unforgettable. The focaccia was also SO FLUFFY. Now that I no longer reside in the DC area, I use every visit to eat my faves and occasionally a new spot. So, after another popular (and cheaper) Italian place closed before I could finish my delivery order, I spotted L'Ardente. I ordered the famous Lasagna - their 40-layer specialty - with short rib sugo, truffle mornay, and Sottocenere Cheese. The truffle mornay added a smooth, melty, creamy cheese sauce. It is good, but I am not sure if it is worth the hype at $40 lagnasa. I think the cost is built into the work but not the flavor profile. I think the meal is better without the sauce - it made it too salty with it.

However, it didn't live up to the expectations. Upon arriving, my husband and I were shown to a table against the wall that had been set up under some kind of ledge that might normally be used as a bar. I would have had this ledge leaning up against me so I asked if we could move to another table. We were seated at a table in front of the door and the hostess stand, so it was cramped. The tables were extremely packed, I had to use a plastic chair, and the table was wobbly so we had to fix that as well. The day had been a little warm so the door was propped open but when we got to the restaurant, it was really chilly. Since we were right by the door, I asked the waitress if we could shut the door. The waitress said she had to ask the manager and the manager came back and said no. There was a couple next to us who said that they also asked to close the door and the manager said no. My husband ended up getting up and was like Yo dog, it's 40 degrees outside, close the door. They ended up closing the door so like a little sexist? Why will the close a door when a man asks? The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we opted for still. You can imagine our surpris when we found out that we were charged $8.00 for water because we did not specify "tap." We didn't discuss it with the waiter but I thought that was idk, kind of shitty? Everyone knows that you don't pay for the still water We started with the grilled octopus which was ok and we ordered two of the bruschettas. I want to clarify, this meant that we literally got one of each type of bruschetta. I thought we would get like a small plate of both but it was literally two pieces of bread for $12 each. Yikes. I got the short rib pasta which was fine. The sauce wasn't very smooth. My husband got a panini that was also fine but certainly not worth the price tag. For the trouble with asking to move the table, the wobbly furniture, the water, and the door issue, not the best. Won't be returning!
