Wow! We got into town for the weekend and wanted to grab lunch. It was cold and raining and we wanted something easy. Once we found Side Door Pizza on Yelp and read all the reviews we were sold. It was a quick walk from our hotel and we got take out. We enjoyed our pizza from our hotel (they really only have take out and dine outside). The pizza was so good we contemplated getting it a 2nd on our way out as a lunch on the road.

Wanted to try a new breakfast spot, so ordered on UberEats. The place does not offer seating inside, it is more like a order and go spot. The staff were extremely friendly and thoughtful with preparing my order. The only room for improvement was the wait time for food. I waited an additional 10 minutes from when the Uber application displayed my order was ready. Could be a glitch or an issue they can fix on their side. The hash browns were flavorful and cheesy (a new take an a staple recipe) and I never thought I would like cabbage in a breakfast burrito, but the flavor profile works! The burritos were stuffed to the brim and could easily be separated into two meals. I do prefer the carne asade burrito over the fried chicken one. I will have to try their hand crafted coffee next!

Side Door pizza definitely lives up to its name. Located in SE, DC you would pass right by if you were not paying attention. You place your order through the kiosk. They have plenty of offerings besides pizza. I happened to visit during restaurant week so I was able to get an appetizer, a small pizza and a dessert for $30. I tried the chicken parm pizza which a decent sized portion for a small. The pizza is Detroit style so thick crust toppings on the bottom and sauce on the top. The crust was the perfect. The sauce was sweet and tangy. If I am in the mood for a deep dish pizza I would make this a top pick.

This delicious Detroit style pizza will have you coming back for more. It is so filling and packed with flavor. I got half pepperoni and half meat lovers, and it comes with their sauce on top. Each order comes with a side of ranch and hot peppers that complement the pizza very well. I also ordered some garlic parm wings. The wings were so crispy! Even with the wet sauce on top, you'll still get a crunch. I would suggest ordering ahead of time cause you will have to wait a little bit BUT totally worth the wait. The service was good and the staff was friendly. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Do not be fooled by the entrance. This pizza spot offers a lot more than just pizza. The wings and fries were tasty, but the pizza was fantastic. The chicken pram, mumbo, and chopped cheese made me wish I got the large. Great service, they answered my questions. It's mainly takeout but you can eat outside.

I'm updating this review to share that I was so surprised to have Side Door reach out to me and apologize for the last order snafu. I don't often think there is very good customer service in DC restaurants, so I appreciated them going above and beyond. One little mistake won't stop me from going back because ultimately, the food is good and providing thoughtful service is the cherry on top of the sundae!

Ordered a whole cheese pizza for takeout and was really happy with it. The dough was soft and airy, especially around the crust. Cheese and sauce were well balanced so it wasn't too greasy or too dry. Still tasted great even after I brought it home. Staff was friendly when I picked it up and the place smelled amazing inside. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I've heard lots of great things about this place, but the food was just ok for me. I had the pizza bundle which was an unbelievable deal!! You get a large pizza and three sides for like $55- i had the regular cheese pizza with wings, risotto balls, and the Caesar salad as my sides. The pizza was pretty undercooked- the dough was so soft when you bit into it. So that was unfortunate. Then the risotto balls were gummy, the cheese that was used didn't congeal well, like other balls I've had. The wings were ok. Some things I really liked were the fast service, and the inside reminded me of an old school pizza place where it's nothing but a service counter and kitchen in the back.

Was walking around the area and wanted something to eat, spotted this place and saw they had a corn pizza so I had to try! Well worth the wait for the quality and freshness! Ordered on the screen inside but the lady behind the counter offered assistance if I had any questions! I thought it was great that you can get two flavors in one!

This pizza is out of this world. Side door is true to it's name, it's literally a side door, if you blink you might miss it. Theres no dining area, just a tiny magical pizza shop cranking out Detroit style pizzas like mother. You can order and take to go or get delivery from the food apps. We went with the mushroom pizza! The mushrooms are not your standard fair. Gave me a fresh farmer's market kinda vibe. Also was topped with a truffle type of sauce. I'm not even completely sure what on this pizza and mushrooms are not my 1st choice, but this pizza was another experience. I'll definitely be coming back here! If you're in Navy Yard or ordering delivery, get this you will not be disappointed and everyone will love you.

Yes! For dine-in at Scarlet Oak only!

Is that a picnic table that people can use to eat takeout pizza onsite?

Yes, there was a picnic table outside last time I went.

However, it didn't live up to the expectations. Upon arriving, my husband and I were shown to a table against the wall that had been set up under some kind of ledge that might normally be used as a bar. I would have had this ledge leaning up against me so I asked if we could move to another table. We were seated at a table in front of the door and the hostess stand, so it was cramped. The tables were extremely packed, I had to use a plastic chair, and the table was wobbly so we had to fix that as well. The day had been a little warm so the door was propped open but when we got to the restaurant, it was really chilly. Since we were right by the door, I asked the waitress if we could shut the door. The waitress said she had to ask the manager and the manager came back and said no. There was a couple next to us who said that they also asked to close the door and the manager said no. My husband ended up getting up and was like Yo dog, it's 40 degrees outside, close the door. They ended up closing the door so like a little sexist? Why will the close a door when a man asks? The waitress asked if we wanted still or sparkling water, and we opted for still. You can imagine our surpris when we found out that we were charged $8.00 for water because we did not specify "tap." We didn't discuss it with the waiter but I thought that was idk, kind of shitty? Everyone knows that you don't pay for the still water We started with the grilled octopus which was ok and we ordered two of the bruschettas. I want to clarify, this meant that we literally got one of each type of bruschetta. I thought we would get like a small plate of both but it was literally two pieces of bread for $12 each. Yikes. I got the short rib pasta which was fine. The sauce wasn't very smooth. My husband got a panini that was also fine but certainly not worth the price tag. For the trouble with asking to move the table, the wobbly furniture, the water, and the door issue, not the best. Won't be returning!

That month I had started Uber driving, was in this area of DC, had heard good things about Wiseguy, and decided to eat here. Although I don't like paying to park just to simply eat a meal, I sometimes will make an exception for convenience and/or if it's a place I really want to go. But for the most part, I'll go to restaurant where they have free parking or at least I can find free parking near the restaurant. I remembered getting a parking spot very close and feel like I feed the meter like 50 cents in 2014 parking prices for a quick 30 minute meal. They have all kinds of varieties of slices from the standard toppings or just cheese to fancy ones. Although the pizza is fairly thin, but average for New York style pizza. I tried Andy's Pizza 11 years later in 2025, and while it was solid although not as good as Wiseguy, my real complaint with Andy's was that the pizza is very thin, where I was hungry very soon later; so a much worse value as pricing is comparable to Wiseguy. Wiseguy slices are big, and the pizza is top notch New York style. I went to this location a couple of more times after my initial August 2014 visit as I loved the pizza. Then, they opened up other locations. I went to Navy Yard one at least twice, once after a Nationals baseball game after a disappointing loss for my 4th favorite baseball team, Texas Rangers. Sorry Nats fans, but Nats are in my bottom 10 teams. I also went to Rosslyn & Pentagon City location, where parking isn't quite as bad. They even had a Wheaton Mall food court location, which I got to experience once, but they sadly closed. Every experience with Wiseguy has been positive.

It's worth the compromise- trust me! Both were delicious but I'll skip the detroit crust next time, and there will be a next time. For me the detroit crust was a bit spongy and had a slight yeast taste. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough for me to choose a different crust next time. We also got the ranch for dipping - new experience. That too wasn't for me. The ranch is homemade and great texture and flavor just not what I expected. It had a heavy dill flavor...yep...dill. Continuing the last 3 of the runner-up alphabet series (& then onto 2025 alphabet series with…read morerunner-ups included at the same time) and the only representing 2023, W is for Wiseguy Pizza. I first had Wiseguy on 3rd & Massachusetts Ave NW way back in 2014, and I knew I loved their pizza. I had also been to a couple of other locations in Arlington & their only one in MD, which closed, at Wheaton Mall. I visited this Navy Yard Wiseguy about 3 times. The first was on Monday, January 6, 2020. I had work travel to DC. My girlfriend of that time was working in DC. It was a brief period of time. She started in December 2019, then on that Friday, 1/10, the contract was furloughed due to the contract company President dying, so she was off for 2 weeks. Then, it was back to normal commuting back to DC, which was brief, as Covid was around the corner, and became 100% remote. She was happy I surprised her coordinating lunch at Wiseguy at Navy Yard not far from her work. This location was pretty new at the time. She & I loved our pizza. It's a thin NY style, perhaps the best in the DMV! The other noteworthy time I visited was on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Early that afternoon, I was way up at Columbia Mall, where I happened to be writing this Yelp review now, as I ate lunch & had a movie on my AMC A-List. Afterward, I was texting/calling with a friend. He was itching to go to a baseball game. O's were away, but Nationals were in town playing against one of my favorite teams, the Texas Rangers, and I had their pitcher in our Fantasy baseball league. We coordinated that afternoon having about 1.5 hours to buy tickets on phone, for me to drive from Columbia to Greenbelt Metro with some modest traffic on parts of 95, & metro all the way on Green line for the 4:05 game. My friend was running a bit later, so we didn't enter right at 4:05, but my heart sank when I heard Nats fans loudly cheering for a homer. My Rangers pitcher got clobbered by the Nats. I was pissed at him quickly dropping him the next morning as soon as I could. Although rain chances were low like 15%, there was a heavy thunderstorm that blew from DCA to Nats Park; almost the entire region was clear, but just bad luck. The rain lasted like 15 minutes, but I was pissed at the Nats because they delayed the game by 1.5 hours! They should've gotten the game going within 45 minutes. I think it was a ploy by the Nats to get people to buy more drinks & food. I refused to give the Nats a dime besides the ticket to go to the game. But after the rain, I was hungry from like the 5th inning to the end. We should've been out of there about 6:30 (which would've been on par with my hunger level) but instead like 8 PM. I told my friend about Wiseguy seeing it was quick & relatively cheap. He loved their pizza too as did I once again. If I'm ever in Navy Yard, Wiseguy is definitely a viable option for me.
