I have heard many good places about Emmy Squared and always wanted to try it. I knew there are several locations throughout the Northeast but I was never able to go. I was in the Navy Yard finishing up an event at Nats Park and wanted some pizza. I saw Emmy Squared was nearby so I walked over. It was very empty inside so seating was available. The waiter was able to get me a table by the open window. I am looking through the menu and seeing all of the options. I decided to order the four-cheese pizza. It came out quickly. It was okay. I was not amazed by it. It seemed like the usual frozen pizza reheated. I had high expectations to be here which were not met. Maybe if I try one of the New York City locations it might be different. I've visited the emmy squared in Brooklyn and so was delighted to see a location right at the navy yard. We had a reservation on a Saturday and was able to be seated on time. We decided to sit outside - they have about 10 tables of 2-4 outside. There are also plenty of tables and booths inside. I think they may have been understaffed this evening - our service was not that great. We weren't given plates, napkins, or cutlery until after our food came out. Also took forever to find someone to get the check. We got the Big Ang pizza which was really good. Loved all the toppings. The Deluxe pizza was also great. I thought the balance of sauce and topping was really good. Also got the chopped wedge salad which was good. We got their espresso martini and a slightly spicy margarita (forgetting the name!). Beware: the espresso martini is STRONG. Very alcohol forward. Not to say it's bad though! Overall, I had a decent experience. Food and drinks were great, service not so much. Stopped in before going to a Nats game and really liked it. I did a build your own with red sauce, Nashville Hot Chicken, and pickled jalapeños and it was delicious. I ordered the smaller of the 2 sizes and it was plenty of food for 1 person, but wouldn't have been enough for us 2 to share. My friend got the Founders and was happy with it. His only critique is that he wished it used a little less of the hot honey and would nix it next time so there was no added sweetness. It was a bit pricey for pizza, but the quality was good enough that I would gladly order the same thing again. It was a nice day so they opened the garage doors out on to the sidewalk, which was fun to watch life go by. We've been ordering Emmy's Squared through DoorDash but decided we wanted to sit inside for dinner on a Friday night. Upon arrival we were seated in a booth behind the bar. Our server came right over as it wasn't very busy. We placed our order right away. It took forever to get our drinks, my partner had to go to the bar and ask for them before they got started. For food we tried the cheese bread and skinny Paulie. It took a long time for everything to come out. The manager came over to apologize and offer a complimentary dessert. The food was great but the service could improve. We love their pizza but I'm not sure we would dine in again. read more

Great service for a group for lunch on a Saturday. Nice calm atmosphere where it was easy to chat. Service was good. It did take some time to get drinks but it seems they were making them with great care, which was reflected in the quality. The pear seasonal cocktail was awesome! I forgot to take pictures of the pizzas but they were all good too. Angel pie is my favorite. They have gluten free crusts as well. I'm just starting to explore the DC pizza game. Emmy's does a Detroit inspired square pizza that is quite good. Detroit has that thick crispy edge that makes corner pieces treasured. If you use Buddy's as the standard for Detroit style the main difference is the corridor crusty edge. Emmy needs to develop that a little more and they are there. Probably needs a little more EVOO just before the oven. Fresh ingredients and good prices make this an easy recommendation. read more

First time at this location, but Ive tried their other locations. I love their pizza it's buttery with crispy edges with a pillowy inside. Ive tried the cheese pizza but you need a salty and acidic element. Also tried the zeppoles. They were very chewy think of eating crusty bread. If you like less sweet desserts you may like this dessert. It tastes like fried pizza dough. It is lightly sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. You need the caramel and cream cheese dip. Both were tasty. I have to say that their pizza is flavorful, but it is a lot oily compared to pizzas from other places. I had a good time with a friend of mine in this restaurant, but other than the oily part in the pizza, everything is juicy and flavorful. The pepperoni slices are thin, but the cheese and the sauce is quite thick and plentiful. The waffle fries are tasty as well, and the only downside to this is that water refills in this restaurant is non-existent and you might have to request for it. Overall, 7/10 for the food, service is mediocre. read more

Unfortunately my order here was doused in extra Parmesan cheese which I know is a plus for many, but makes it way too heavy for me. My stomach was churning after one slice! Please list it on the menu as an ingredient and provide an option to remove it. It truly changes the experience for us lactose lite peeps. One of my pet peeves at any pizza joint. If you wouldn't top with red pepper flake without mentioning it why do it with parm? Maybe with parm is the standard though and the shaw location just forgets to put it on? Idk. Came here for dinner on a quiet Sunday. The interior is spacious and we got seated at a booth. The service was fine, the food took a little long to come out. We ordered 3 items: zia fries, le big matt burger, and the good paulie pizza. Our fries came out first, and that came out quick. They were good and loaded with toppings. We ended up eating most of it because the burger and pizza took longer to arrive. Emmy squared boasts about their burger and it was pretty good, there was also good, but a little on the oily side. I appreciated how they serve the pizza, on a rack, keeping the crust nice and crisp. We ended up with more than we could finish. We came here after moving our daughter into her college dorm. We needed a reload on carbs for the next couple of days of moving. My daughter knows of the other location in Shaw and she says it's pretty good pizza. We parked in a lot a half block away. It was a great parking location. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by a host who seated us. We got a nice spot on the left of the restaurant entry, with a wall of full windows, perfect. This would be a 5+ experience if we could rate more. We recently came here with a very large group for mother's day. The staff was so incredibly accommodating as we rolled in with a large group without a reservation. Our server was so good at rolling with the punches. I've ordered from here before and enjoyed the food. But this was my first time dining in. I loved the open air ambiance -- it's a perfect spot to enjoy an indoor/outdoor experience during that short window of pleasant DC weather. My large extended family ordered several types of dishes but I have to say, what my partner and I ordered was the best. We started off with the roasted Brussel sprout salad. This was a hit and several of our family members asked to taste it, and continued to help finish it off with 2nd servings. But the biggest hit of the night was the margarita pizza. By far, this was my favorite. The regular cheese pizza was also tasty. The one pizza I did not love was the Hawaiian Pizza. I generally love a Hawaiian pizza but this one tasted overly sweet. It just wasn't to my taste. Overall though this was a 5 star+ experience. We will definitely be back. read more

The food was a bit pricey and some of the dishes were a-la-cart, so being mindful when planning. Typically love Emmy Squared pizza, but our pizza arrived with green fuzzy patches on the bottom. We were told it was definitely not mold, but then given various reasons as to why there was a mold-looking patches on our pizza - the knife, the oil, the pan. It was very unappetizing. Our server was very sweet, but the manager flippant, which was insulting, and not apologetic. I get it, restaurants are understaffed, overworked, and underpaid. This isn't a reflection of poor service, just a warning...check your pizza bottoms. read more

A lot of people have been guiding me to this place to try this pizza and said it's very unique and very good. Maybe I had a bad Location maybe it was just a bad day but to me personally the pizza taste like it was frozen and me personally for the price this is unacceptable even though I ordered to go I had to wait a minute or two for the food to come out and I ate a piece as soon as I got in the car just so my judgment cannot be questioned. We were so tired from running around site seeing so we decided to stay in at the hotel and order pizza. Finding a place that had decent reviews, delivered or had a delivery service option that were good was more challenging than I thought. We decided Emmy Squared at the Navy Yard looked like our best option. This is our only pizza in the DC area and it was great! We ordered a Caesar salad, bread sticks and a make it your own Detroit style 8x10 pizza. Everything was packaged well and the hot stuff was still pretty warm despite the Uber Eats issue (don't know what it was, but we ended up with a different driver after Uber said the order was on the way). The salad was fresh and had an excellent dressing on it. It was just what my wife wanted instead of pizza 'this late'. Until she tried the bread sticks and then nothing was so heavy or too late. The bread sticks were cooked to perfection and had a great seasoning on them. The pizza was excellent and exactly what I hoped for. Cooked right, not doughy and had the crispy edges you hope a Detroit style pizza has. We really enjoyed our meal from Emmy Squared and have vowed to return when we visit Washington, D.C. in the future. read more

I went here with some friends for a girls catchup dinner and it was good! It is a very chill and laidback spot in Navy Yard. I ordered Colony pizza with Ricotta cheese and it was really good! (Note: if you see a speciality pizza that is almost perfect but has an ingredient you don't like, you can just tell the waiter). The Colony pizza was delicious and leaned a bit sweet with the honey so I enjoyed the addition of ricotta cheese (personal choice). The only reason that I can't give it 5 stars is because the pizza was a bit too saucy which made the deliciously golden dough a bit soggy. The flavors were there, the cook was there, and the bun complimented well! Our only qualm, and this is a personal preference... the double chicken breast was just too much. The sandwich would be perfect with one chicken breast IMO. The double is just so messy and kills the integrity of the sandwich. Nonetheless still delicious! The Caesar Salad was also delicious, a huge portion so perfect to share! The dressing (house made) was what elevated the salad. Great take on a simple Caesar. Stumbled upon this cute pizza joint while taking a stroll through the Navy Yards in DC. The bar area is beautiful. The restaurant is a definite vibe with the decor and background music. Hafez sat us in a booth and took care of us right away. The Bourbon Watermelon Splash cocktail is delicious! We got the Brussels Sprouts salad and "Angel" pizza. Both were very tasty.
