My cousin was skeptical and wanted to go to $1 pizza place but I had Emmy squared bookmarked for a while and convinced him to give it a try and Emmy Squared Pizza did not disappoint, at all! We ordered the 1Roni Supreme 5/5, and we demolished it quickly and order another to go! As my cousin had to catch his Kill Bill movie and my sister and I went to see Monaleo later that evening. We enjoyed Big Ang in the car 5/5, even when a little cold! Still dreaming of the crust, bread, sauce and all the goodness! Will be back! I have lived in Detroit for more than 30 years and never heard the phrase "Detroit style pizza" until a few years ago, so it always makes me snicker when I hear about a Detroit pizza place in another city. This place was very quiet at 2:00 on a Saturday, so we basically had it all to ourselves. We started with the bulgogi fries, which were fantastic! The Good Pauline pizza was excellent. Whenever I try pizza I try to stick with the basics. This was a very hard decision here because they had so many good choices. We went for the original cheese and the cheese sticks. Ive had other Detroit pizzas before but this is top tier. The flavor of the dough is delicious. You can tell they fermented it over several days. The dough is thick and puffy with crispy edges. I dropped by Emmy Squared for a late Sunday lunch with a friend, and the place was relatively empty (which makes sense for ~3 PM on a Sunday). We were immediately seated in a cute little booth by the window, which was a great place to soak in a bit of Vitamin D and enjoy people watching along Florida Ave. My friend and I split the classic margherita pizza, which was delightful. I'm typically not the world's biggest pizza fan -- much less Detroit-style pizza -- but this was really well done. The dough was robust but a little springy, almost like focaccia, and there was a generous helping of gooey melted cheese and tomato sauce on every slice. The sauce was the perfect balance of savory, tart, and very slightly sweet, the cheese was nicely broiled, and I love that they added a piece of basil to every piece to give it a small bit of freshness. One pizza was the perfect amount of food for the two of us, and it was super reasonably priced -- it's rare to get a good meal in DC for less than $15 per person. If you come with a group of three, I also think that splitting one pizza and one salad would go well too. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and they also have a phenomenal gluten-free crust, so there's definitely something for everyone here. Overall, great experience and super tasty meal! I've never dined in at Emmy Squared, but I've ordered takeout and delivery several times through Uber Eats and DoorDash. The pizza can be really good, when it's fresh, it's hot, bubbly, cheesy, and the flavors are great. That's why I keep going back. However, delivery has been hit or miss. Sometimes the pizza arrives cold, undercooked, or missing toppings. I'm not sure if it's the handoff with the delivery apps or just less attention going into orders that aren't picked up in person, but the quality is noticeably different. I live close by, so it's surprising when it shows up anything less than hot. When I've picked up my order myself, the pizza has been consistently excellent. For the best experience, I'd recommend dining in or picking up your order directly so you can make sure everything looks right before you leave. This was my second time to this location and it did not disappoint. I went around 9pm after a concert at Howard Theater. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken. The Caesar salad was delicious. It was fresh and crunchy. The colony pizza was fresh and delicious as well. The honey adds a sweet touch and compliments the pickled jalapeños really well. I have only ordered from uber eats from this place. This is so surprising cuz this is a pizza place but their burger is lowkey delicious. Their pesto bread appetizer is really good too. Their actual pizzas delivered have been a bummer. The middle has been consistently soggy and UNDERBAKED and the toppings are slapped on and it looks messy. Hard to enjoy. I'd like to see them find a better way to deliver their pizzas without loosing the quality. read more

We also shared the zia fries that had a really yummy seasoned blanco cheddar queso on top, thick cut bacon, and scallions! We also got the classic pizza and big ang pizza. The classic was great - cheese on the bottom, sauce on the top. Perfectly cooked and crispy! The big ang had lots of ricotta and sausage and was really delicious as well! Walking in, you have to get past the crowd of door dash drivers crowding the front entryway. There was a medium sized dining space with plenty of seats. We were seated at a nice center booth and were helped right away. Service was nice and friendly, however they brought our food by leaning over the back of the booth and handing us the pizza trays instead of coming to the front of the table and placing the dishes on the table which was kind of odd? Overall, I'd love to come back and try more! My friends took me to this place, saying it's the best pizza they ever had! It's Detroit-style pizza, deep-dish. It's tradition to order your own preferred personal pizza with the notion that you can swap a slice for a slice with your friends as well and try some more flavors! I did the classic "make it a Margherita," some got the sausage one adding jalapeños, and the one with the white sauce was divine. We thoroughly enjoyed Mexican bottled cokes with our pizza. What a great spot in the center of the Shaw neighborhood! Emmy Squared came highly recommended ("best burger I have ever had") and with that endorsement, I had to give it a try. We came on a quiet Sunday and the team did not disappoint. Servers and staff were so friendly. The food came out quick and was delicious! While the burger was not the best I've ever had, it was really good! The pizza was very good and we all left craving more! They have an outdoor patio for taking in the Shaw scene and they have a number of daily specials including $25 pitchers on Sundays (a good place for football?). We will definitely be back to try other burgers and for their delicious Detroit-style pizza. read more

Came to Emmy Squared for a friend's birthday and had a good time! They have a ton of space so it was great for a big group. The pizza SLAPS!!!! Everything was phenomenal, the Hawaiian pizza especially is wowowow and I don't usually like white pizzas. The pineapple tastes straight off a pineapple upside down cake it was a delicious bite. The MVP with the sesame crust was so different and flavorful. I love Detroit style pizza and this place is on point. I didn't get a drink myself but the friends drinks I had were delicious especially the passionfuit tequila drink. Our server was so nice and friendly and our group had a great time. The only downside is it took a bit of time for our food to come out, about ~45 minutes, which seems a while for pizza but it was worth the wait and we did have a bigger group. It's also SO loud in the restaurant. Something about the acoustics of the place even with a relatively empty restaurant we were yelling at each other. The music they played was great but definitely contributed to the loudness. I'll definitely be back!! read more

I ordered through door dash and the first order was canceled after nearly an hour because the store had given my pizza to someone else. Doordash called me and offered a refund or to reorder. I opted to reorder which was a bad move. The pizza arrived cold. I ordered the Angel added fried chicken, extra cheese and caramelized onions. It was just ok. The dough wasn't crispy at all, had too much ricotta and not enough regular cheese. Also lacked flavor. The mushrooms weren't all cooked. The the stars are because maybe it might be better with a more traditional pizza. But I recommend picking it up yourself. read more

I came here to celebrate a couple friends' birthdays, and we all had a great time. We ordered bunch of appetizers and like 3-4 pizzas. It was way too much food, but it was all delicious. The service was so kind and friendly. They let us play our music in the restaurant for a little bit. They also gave us a couple of free shots to celebrate the two birthdays. Host was nice and seated us in a nice comfortable seat. We ordered roasted chili cauliflower for the app and mozzarella squared pizza for the main course. Pizza is the Detroit style one. This was my first time dining at Emmy Squared Pizza and it did not disappoint. Pizza is my favorite food and the (meat lovers) style pizza was one of the best I've ever experienced. I also has the chicken parmesan sandwich and it was superb. All the portion are huge and it taste just as good the next day. I would be remiss if I didn't mention our server, Manny, who provided A+++ service. He was very attentive, informative and made great suggestions that made our dining experience exceptional and definitely worth returning. The manager was awesome, welcoming, and very accommodating. Perhaps not noticeable at dinner time, but the wallpaper is peeling at dinning level along the wall. I went for an impromptu lunch and hardly anyone was there, so service was attentive. Unfortunately, there's a serious issue with mosquitoes at the bar so hence the move to the table...with the peeling wallpaper. After about 10 minutes, our server, Tennessee, came by to take our drink order. As usual, I requested a Madras cocktail, which was strong, flavorful, and well balanced. Three of my friends split a large pizza; I had to order separately to accommodate my inability to eat gluten (I would not force anyone without celiac disease or an intolerance to miss out on real crust). While delayed, my friends' pizza came out after about 25 minutes. Mine ... did not. After my friends had finished eating, I flagged down the manager and asked him to cancel my order, as I had been waiting for 45 minutes, and we needed to leave for the concert. David, the manager, apologized and said he would check on the status of my pizza; it came out moments later. Very quickly, I had half of the (very good) gluten-free pesto pizza, so we could depart. When our bill arrived, David had made some concessions so we did not need to pay for my tardy meal. No automatic gratuity or service fee was added (though we did tip extra in acknowledgment of the comped food). Emmy Squared remains my go-to locale for dinner before concerts at 9:30. Next time, though, I'll make sure to build in more time to eat. read more

Decided to take an East Coast trip and came to DC for a few days. I really wanted to try some Detroit Style Deep Dish and found this place. Overall, very nice establishment/vibe & very tasty pizza! I ordered the Colony Pizza and a side of cheesy garlic sticks. Both had that caramelized and crunchy crust needed to be considered true Detroit Style Deep Dish. The jalapeños & honey on the pizza gives your taste buds a "zesty" feeling lol! The cheese sticks are full of garlic & parmesan and their dipping sauce isn't too sweet!
