Saw this place on instagram and I love a good burger. Came here and was surprised at the expensive prices. $17 for double wagyu burger and $9 for a single. $5 for fries. Wagyu beef I was hoping to notice a significant difference and I was sure that the fries would be great. Boy was I wrong. The patty is flat and you can barely taste it over here sauce that is over the burger with the chopped tomato and onion. It's a good thing I got a double or I wouldn't have noticed any meat on the burger. The fries were pitiful. Tasteless, no salt and a super waste of $5. This is a nice local burger place! I like the interior, which was bright and airy. I loved the kids paintings as decor! I went downstairs to use the bathroom and that was a weird journey, but the bathroom itself was clean. I ordered a Joia burger (single patty) and the cauliflower salad. The cauliflower salad was a cold cauliflower dish that was lacking something for me. The burger was absolutely fantastic. The bun was lightly toasted and perfect. I have been to Joia Burger twice in the past month and it is truly that good. Super small shop with seating for about 8-10 so I recommend either taking it to go or bringing it to the Mt Pleasant plaza across the street! It's a really simple smashburger with minimal toppings - could def go for some more shredded lettuce and tomato but the sauce/pickle combo is classic. The fries are also solid! Dip in the ube soft serve for a great salty/sweet hit. My only complaint is the double burger is literally twice the price of the single which feels a little excessive. This was a top 5 burger for me, absolutely delicious. I dragged some friends here in the rain on our first night in DC. It was a smaller joint than I thought, but some seats freed up at the counter inside so we were able to dine in. We all ordered a single party burger, while they got a side of fries. I ordered my burger without tomatoes and I was glad they were able to oblige. The burger exceeded my expectations and the taste exceeded the sum of its parts. Let's deconstruct the single patty burger. Overall, I loved it. The single patty along with the regular fries was filling enough for me. The two buns were fluffy. The wagyu beef was tasty and eating the single patty was enough for me to get a sense of the flavor. The distinctive part of the burger - the diced tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickle combined together in special sauce - was good, if you're a big into sauce. In my burger, the mixture was a little hard to hold it all in between the buns, so some of it fell into the wrapper. That's not horrible; just scoop it up with the fries, which were average tasting and come with ketchup. Extra charge for their other sauces. I visited on their one-year anniversary, so it was a very happy day for Joia and their staff. Bar stool seating partially lines the walls of the restaurant, so it's fine to eat inside if it's yourself and maybe up to two friends. I'm a fan of Purple Patch and I've been hearing about Joia Burger for quite a while. As the weather started getting consistently nice, I decided to take a day to drop by and meet a friend there to try their burger. When we went inside, noticed how it's a tiny shop with friendly staff -- and they even have some canned beer and wine you can grab! I decided to order single patty wagyu burger ($9) and the joia fries ($7). It wasn't long before they were ready, and my friend and I dug right in to our meals. The burger was delicious! Every bite was flavorful and satisfying, and before I knew it, it was gone :(. The fries had the exact same sauce as the burger, so I actually could've done without it. I was hoping for something different, so regular fries would've been fine, though the flavor seemed to rely on that sauce. Not bad though! Sadly I didn't have room for the ube soft serve, but it's okay! I'll be trying it next time. I'm curious about their veggie bean burger, though $14 does seem rather expensive for it. read more

Tried Joia yesterday during my break. It's a very colorful and seemingly inviting restaurant. Upon entering, there are paintings all over the walls of children's artwork, so it's very family friendly which is nice as kids can draw while they eat and give their parents a break. They have limited toppings to choose from, and I think I ended up getting everything on my burger including the Joia topping which is like a thousand island mix with some additional veggies. The burger was decent although I had some stomach upset after eating it. I don't usually eat burgers, so maybe that's why. I had a side of fries, and those were crisp and fresh. Lastly, I had their strawberry lemonade, but it tasted more like a soda which was odd. I would recommend for others, but maybe it's just not for me. Even as a vegetarian, I can get behind the burger and fries aesthetic if they put some effort into their veggie burger, which here they did. It had a great crust but was tender and juicy. The sauce added a nice flavor profile with some richness to balance the savory flavors from the burger. Service is very nice and friendly. Inside is nice and clean. Outside patio is great way to enjoy this place. Fries were well seasoned and crunchy. Had a a great taste to them. Comes with ketchup but you can pay for some different sauces for a dollar. The ube soft serve was delicious rich flavor sweet and rich. Has a similar taste to sweet potato pie. It's a small fast food location with 10-12 stools inside and streetery tables outside. The music is insanely loud so I recommend reviewing the menu ahead of time so you don't have to ask to many questions. I ordered a single burger and fries. The burgers are cooked smash style topped with a slaw-style condiment. The slaw consists of tomato, onion, pickle, lettuce, and a "special sauce." It has a strong tangy, vinegary taste. I did not realize the fries also come with this sauce. On the burger it's great. The proportion of burger to bun to sauce is perfect. On the fries, the sauce is overwhelming and not good.
