Ordered this on Uber Eats and by no fault of the restaurant there was a problem with the order. Somehow I get connected to the owner's cell phone and didn't want to bother him, but he was determined to help. He said something to the degree of, "I'm on a mission to feed DC". He fixes the problem and calls me back personally. Talk about a genuinely authentic and nice guy. I'm a big foodie and this place is straight . Although not technically a breakfast sandwich, the pork egg sandwich was one of the best "breakfast" sandwiches I've had in the city. It was massive and delicious. Big pimento cheese guy and their take on pimento cheese was sooo good. Will definitely order again. They have an insane deal going on rn. Lastly, I tried the curry fish pastry... wow the quality is insane at this restaurant. I could have easily had 6 of these it was so good. The sauce!!! It's a humble booth in Union market. I've walked passed it many times, no longer. This will be at the top of my mind. read more

Had a great experience at Egg Yaki! I wasn't sure what to order so Nick and one of the employees suggested the "Rock On!" omelette. I'm so glad I took their advice because it was absolutely delicious. The omelette was flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they put care into both the food and the customer experience. The staff was friendly, helpful, and made ordering easy for this being my first time here. If you're in the DC area go visit the Egg Yaki at Union Market!! I definitely recommend trying the Rock On! omelette. It did not disappoint. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu! read more

I didn't know what to expect. Being unfamiliar with the area because I've been out of the loop for a minute (but I'm back!) it wasn't easy for me to find it. I found it right as I walked in... the 3rd time. I walked past it the first time because I thought it was part of a different spot. I overlooked it the second time and then I just asked someone and they pointed me right there. When I got there Nick was chatting it up with a customer finishing up some background info on his journey but I didn't want to be nosy because that was their moment. When it was my turn, we had a similar conversation that was a bit more personalized to my travels and his start here. He was telling me how this spot was smaller and I already though the was doing amazing things with such a small space. Small space, Big Taste. I've never had anything like it. I literally didn't know what to expect. He asked me if I wanted it as a sandwich or omelette and although I like sandwiches, I love omelettes. It didn't look that big but it was definitely filling. If I had planned on sampling Union Market that day, I would've been upset because I would've had no space left. I'll be back on a day I'm more hungry so I can try more or maybe I'll bring someone so they can share and we can sample more things. There was also this orange coffee drink that was so good. Burnt egg taste on the bottom was overwhelming. There's no seasoning in the egg mixture so the sauce is essential. The sauce pairings are good but you need more than a drizzle. The staff members was pleasant. read more

Was really impressed by the food at Egg Yaki! Went as part of a special event and ordered the rock on omelette, which is an omelette with rock shrimp and a few other ingredients. The shrimp themselves were perfectly cooked and the egg had a fluffy consistency and texture, which was quite filling while also not too rich. The toppings, which included green onions, fried onions, and Unagi sauce, were all notable and really brought the dish together. I would definitely come back to try other versions of the omelette. We also ordered the Pork Katsu Sando, and thoroughly enjoyed this item. The sauces really brought the sandwich together, and the pork was very well cooked. It was lean without being tough and breaded excellently. The chef who took our order was very helpful and made the food fresh to order very quickly. While the prices are not particularly cheap, that's to be expected with a Union Market food stall, and the quality of the dishes seemed quite high given other comparable restaurants. read more

I love a nice egg sandwich so love that this place exists and the guy who works here also has a great personality! This was the first time I had scallions in my eggs and honestly wasn't a fan AT ALLL LOL. But! The sandwich and quality was good however it just wasn't for me with that part. How did I not know about this hidden gem in the union market. Finally found this place as I was looking for a high protein meal after my workout. I tried their shrimp sandwich. The brioche was loaded with shrimp, nice sauce and cabbage. Everything blend in so perfectly to make a great sandwich. They also have many omelets. It's a self serve kinda place in the union market. Chef is very passionate about the food he makes. The ambiance at the union market is great especially in the spring. Highly recommend getting one of their stuff and sitting outside to enjoy the meal on a nice breezy evening. read more

Once you've had good fried rice you'll know it...I'm talking about good fried rice, not that crap from the mall kiosk or Panda Express....I have my favorites but none of them resided in DC until now...I've been on a serious hunt for decent fried rice...I never thought I'd find it in union market but look no further...Chef Nicolas has a ton of flair and the culinary skills to back it up. I looked at the menu and everything looks amazing...union market has really stepped their game up....im coming back for that fried pork chop sandwich that's the size of my head but I gotta earn it. Walked into the market craving carbs and decided to give the egg fried rice a try, it did not disappoint! A hidden gem for those who want to try something interesting in Union Market. Egg Yaki is a spot that makes omelettes; they are gigantic, massive, and will leave you wanting more. They are open from Thur-Sun. If you do want to catch them, make sure it's before 3 PM otherwise they are not available for the rest of the day I got the Heart & Seoul Omelette which was made with Eggs, House Made Kimchi, Yuzu Mayo, topped with scallions and crispy shallots. It comes out extremely hot and I'd say get napkins because the bottom on the plastic tray it comes out on gets hot too. It was simply amazing. I liked how the Yuzu Mayo compliments the Kimchi and the Eggs. I didn't get rice but if you were to pair this up with the rice it'd definitely be a meal that'll keep you full for a while. I don't say this lightly...this may be some of the best food I've had in DC! Chef Nicolas is actually a genius. Egg Yaki sells delicious, massive, extremely fluffy omelettes. I chose the "Rock On!" which had Rock Shrimp, Cabbage, Spicy Mayo, Unagi Sauce and topped with crispy shallots. If I could eat this every day, I seriously would! After having the omelette I thought "how could this get any better?", then I had the brussel sprouts! SO GOOD!!! Actually the best I've had in DC. The crispy Brussels sprouts have Fish Sauce Caramel, Fried Garlic, and Scallions in them. Highly highly recommend this spot and next door, AboveGround. read more

I've always passed this spot in Union market but I tried it for the first time today and it was great! I got the rock shrimp rice bowl and added in cabbage. It needed some sort of "green" element. I did remove the kimchi since I'm not a fan of spice. The shrimp was really tiny and fresh, smothered in spicy mayo, so good. read more

Fantastic shrimp omelet. It reminded me of an okonomiyaki, but more egg-based. All of the flavors work nicely together, and the omelet is pleasantly fluffy and smooth. You get a good sized portion, but you also don't feel heavy or stuffed eating it. Service process is interesting-- you order and pay by tablet and get a text when your food is ready. You don't need to interact with anyone, lol. There were plenty of seats available on a Tuesday afternoon in Union Market. Highly recommend! read more

11/10 takeout experience. My order was ready on time, still hot and absolutely delicious. Sauce did spill over in the plastic bag, and hopefully Egg Yaki fixes this in the future! As for the food, it hit the spot. It was savory and delicious. We opted for the Rock On! Omelet and the Brussels sprouts. Great little stall at bustling Union Market. There are bigger stands, flashier ones, but Egg Yaki definitely deserves a chance. Food is great, fresh and portions are huge! I decided to try Egg Yaki for brunch, and I was impressed by how large the serving sizes were. I got the Funghi omlette, and it was enough for 3 meals. I literally could only eat about a third of it. Hands down the best brussel sprouts I've had in my entire life, and trust me, I order them every time they're listed on a menu. I've been eyeing this stall and specific item whenever wandering around the food hall but they're usually closed when I swing by. The last time I struck gold and placed my order. It was made in under 8 minutes but tasted like a dish that took hours to make. My mouth is still watering weeks after. A newer stand in Union Market, Egg Yaki sells what's like a giant omelet. I ordered the "Heart & Seoul" and it was excellent. It comes with one giant omelet with crispy shallots, green onions, yuzu mayo, and kimchi. The crispy shallots add a good crunch to it. I ordered a side of rice but you don't need it. The omelet is filling on its own. On a Sunday afternoon, my meal was ready within 7 minutes. Not a bad wait at all! read more

OMG...the shrimp egg yaki was to die for. Soo good. Shrimp perfectly cooked and the toppings of sauce, scallions and crunchy things were the perfect combination of tastes to compliment the eggs but not overpower it. My table partners were enjoying the AboveGround fish and chips but kept stealing bites of my meal as well. That's okay..I kept snitching their fries...er...chips as well. Yum yum. Yum. I love finding new places to try, so I was pretty excited to visit egg yaki given the stellar reviews! It's located in Union Market in an unassuming stand so you have to pay attention to find it. Very simple concept, but it's pretty tasty. We had the funghi and the Rock On and both were good, but my partner LOVED the Rock on. Very clever usage of eggs and accompanying ingredients. The thing that stood out the most was the service- the owner was the only employee working so he explained the whole idea while preparing my omelette. Very friendly dude! read more

Omg! This place is freaking delicious! And the owner is always really nice! I love the Rock on! It comes with shrimp! I continue to say I will try all 3 egg options but each time, I get the Rock On! I love the crispy onions and the green onions that come on top. I like to eat it alone but mixing it with rice and a bit of soy sauce is fire! It's a small little spot inside of the market. UNION MARKET, WASHINGTON DC - Definitely worthwhile. The wife and I, wandering around Union Market on a Saturday midday, confused and unable to decide on what to get, as is our way as indecisive Midwesterners, saw this and said 'bingo,' because why get pho or bbq -which one can get at a million places, no offense to the fine pho and bbq options at Union Market, when you can get Japanese-ish omelettes? We got the What a Fungi ($12), with mushrooms and a peppery mayo. It was a hefty omelette, as the two of us had come in to Union Mkt planning to get and split a couple different things and ended up just mowing down on this tasty beast, covered in scallions and crispy onions. Food came quickly. Staff was pleasant. Next time I'd skip the $4 side order of steamed rice as we didn't even finish it and it was not a big addition taste or experience-wise. Whole thing was very much a 4.5-star food hall meal experience. Shall return. read more

This is a can't miss spot at Union Market. After a full walk around of the entire market my friend and I decided to spend our breakfast money here. The shrimp egg yaki is a clear winner and pro tip, get the side of rice to go with and it's a perfect shared breakfast! Small stall with a short list of options but that's how you know a place gets it right! I will say though that it was so good we went back the next day for the same meal and this time the rice was a little undercooked. Since it's made in a rice cooker, I had to dock 0.5 stars. I will say that the first day was a Friday and the second day was Saturday so all the cool neighbors were out and about doing their weekend thing. Very neighborly vibe and not noticeably touristy which is a plus! So 4.5/5.0. A definite must visit!! read more

The ribeye and New York strip were very good. The butchers steak I got for my son and he didn't really like it, it was lacking flavor. If you do anything when you go, please make sure to get the biscuits. Hands down THE BEST BISCUITS I've ever had lol. They are the most flaky and buttery biscuits, you can count each layer that these have. Pro tip is to ask for butter and the house made jam. The pimento cheese is good with them but it becomes a little too decadent. Overall I'm happy we made the decision to come here, we will be back soon.

The pistachio feta with grilled pita was tasty and interesting. The halloumi with orange marmalade was as well. The hostess was engaging and friendly. The atmosphere was calming with a touch of casual refinement. One of the entrees was delicious (the scallops and grits). I'd order all three items mentioned so far, again. The negative. The second entree was the short rib. It was tender and.... Wow, way too salty. A shame because it was otherwise well cooked and nicely plated. But whoa. When the hostess came by, my girlfriend kindly said it was a bit salty. I "refined" her answer and said she was being nice, but it was very salty. The hostess went to note this for the kitchen (a positive for her), and because we are on the first floor outside the kitchen window I heard the conversation. The chef responded that he knew what had happened. Earlier when preparing the short rib someone (in his words) blasted it with salt. What this tells me is that they knew they'd made something close to inedible but served it anyway. At the end of our meal we had leftovers of the two apps and the short rib. We asked for a bit of extra pita to take home and they provided. Then the bill arrived. Not only was there no adjustment for the inedible short rib, but they charged us $2 for the pita. The least they could have done was just given us the pita. Ah well. Those two missteps; 1) serving a known and improperly prepared entree, and 2) not doing something to make good when reported, have led to this sadly negative review for a place that could and should have gotten a positive one. Hopefully someone there will see this, and the experience and review will be a learning opportunity that will help them thrive.
