This place is amazing all around! My family (through a DC friend) has been going to this restaurant (and its manager's predecessor) for many years now! The food is consistently fresh and delicious and spiced very well with lots of spice levels available. The restaurant is always very clean too! The service and attention to detail among each server is always impeccable--they consistently come around with water and are always happy to help you with whatever you may need. The manager Sanjeet is such a kind and friendly man. Each time we come (may it be for pickup or dine-in) he greets us by name with open arms. He is always happy to help and happy to talk whenever! Overall, this restaurant is fabulous and on behalf of my family and I, is greatly recommended!!! read more

We stopped by Jab We Met Indian Kitchen for dinner while visiting Washington, DC, and loved it so much that we came back the very next day for lunch! The Palak Chaat and Palak Paneer were the highlights of our meals--both were packed with flavor and are a must-try. We also tried a couple of desserts, and they were a great way to end the meal. If you're looking for delicious Indian food in DC, I highly recommend giving this place a try. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town. read more

I found Jab We Met on DoorDash and decided to give it a try. Any time I see palak chat on the menu, I have to try it and see how it compares to Rasika's. Jab's version ($10) is the best dupe I've ever had! I ordered it as a carryout item, and I was wary that it wouldn't hold up to the transport and would be soggy. Jab packaged it thoughtfully - all of the sauces were served on the side - and the flash-fried spinach stayed perfectly crispy and wasn't greasy at all! Serving the sauces on the side is actually even better because then I was able to customize the sauce levels and flavors. I would definitely come back and order this again. I also ordered the Chicken Makhani ($20) because I'm basic like that. It comes with rice. You can customize the spice levels, and yes, I ordered mild (...I SAID I was basic). The butter chicken was good but doesn't crack the list of my favorites. The chicken was a little dry and they use a grilled/barbecued chicken which gave it a smoky flavor. The mild was quite mild, I actually think I could handle a slightly spicier level here. I'm happy I tried this place - will come back to try more. read more

This place is a solid high 3*, but I bumped it up to 4* because they have good customer service, offer a lunch special, happy hour, and discounts on dinner during the week and takeout. Considering there is a 5* Indian restaurant across the street, it is difficult to not compare this restaurant to it. Jab We Met has your customary authentic Indian cuisine, however, in typical American fashion some of the flavor and heat is dialed down or inconsistent. The first time I visited, I was left wanting more in the flavor department. I asked for spicy, and although what I received would be considered spicy to some, it wasn't nearly as spicy as I expected for Indian cuisine. The depth of flavor can be inconsistent, although for American standards it is perfect. What I've experienced with some Indian restaurants is the flavor level depends on how close the batch is to almost empty. I've experienced some restaurants stretch their gravies by adding stock/water. Jab We Met seems to take pride in serving consistent gravy texture and consistency. The customer service is always good. The inside has an upscale decor, fitting for Capitol Hill and not your traditional Indian restaurant. There is a full size bar and window seating. The lunch special is perhaps the best value here. I'll continue to visit. read more

Ordering takeout over the phone on a busy Friday night, I walked into their kind staff. They were so helpful and passionate about their restaurant. We ordered chaat, chicken tikka masala, chutney, naan, and gulab jamun. The winner was the gulab jamun. Heated for 15 seconds in the microwave did the trick. Everything else was fine, but not as flavorful as other restaurants nearby. Overall, it's a decent place. One thing to note is that the mild dishes are still a little spicy. read more

It was good. The service was excellent. The food was very good. Plenty of seating on a Saturday night.

I'm a huge fan of Indian food and was excited to try this place. On a late Sunday afternoon it wasn't too busy. We got seated right away. I found parking nearby! Every Indian restaurant has their own level of spicy so I inquired. This restaurant goes from 1 to 10. Since I'd never been here, I decided to go at level 7 but I could have went up higher because my food wasn't spicy enough for me. I got the chicken tikka masala which came with rice and I ordered a side of garlic naan. While the food was good I thought like the portions were somewhat small. The service was great though! I would visit again but not in a hurry! read more

We just dined here yesterday as a family of three. We saw great reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We had made reservations and got seated promptly. However, we could tell that the service was a bit slow here. The servers were super nice, but just a couple of them were taking orders. We ordered the following: - Onion Bhajiya: this was ok. A bit on the bland side. I've some delicious onion bhajiya at other restaurant, so this was just ok for me. - Daal Tadka: Each of the entrees comes with a big bowl of rice. The daal was ok. I've had some amazing Tadka Daal at other restaurants. My husband ordered Butter Chicken and enjoyed it. I still recommend everyone to try this place. For me, the food was average. I would like to go back and try some of the other dishes some day. read more

I enjoyed this restaurant very much. The ambience is a plus, including that it is quiet enough that you can talk without having to scream. My favorite dish was Palak Chat, a spinach appetizer. It was delicious. I also ordered the lamb seekh kabob appetizer & liked it. I would order it again. For my entree I had the saag, choosing to have it with lamb. It was fine, although next time I want to try the fried fish. read more

We love this place! We've had such a great experience every time we've been in. Food was very delicious and quantity was good. Best place to go and have Indian food. .....

The service was exceptional. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and brought our food out in a decent time. The ambiance was moody and beautiful. Also had veg samosas but didn't get a picture of those because they were gone the moment they arrived lol everything was delicious. read more

Finally was able to try this restaurant, on a Saturday for an early dinner. We were seated, no reservation. Food was pretty good, we got lamb saag and chicken makhani that came with basmati rice. We also got a bread basket. My favorite was the garlic naan. The lamb saag was good and the makhani was new to us, but was also good. The makhani had a sweetness to it that was probably from the tomatoes. The portions and price were pretty standard. The service was good, and the servers were very attentive. The restaurant had available tables, booths, and bar seating area. The decor was nice, the lighting was a little darker overall though. read more

This Indian cuisine spot had been on my try list for awhile and I finally got to check them out recently. The restaurant is a lot larger than it appeared from the outside with a long bar surrounded by dark-colored small tables and booth seating with simple but elegant decor throughout the space. The weather wasn't great so there weren't too many customers at the time but nonetheless service was timely and our server was very attentive and helpful. I came in just as dinner service was starting and their menu features appetizers like paneer, veggie samosas, and pakora, and traditional entrees like chicken tikka masala, Lamb curry, various protein kabobs, various protein biryani's, and a variety of naan's with prices ranging from $12-$20. They also allow you to choose the spice level for your dish which is convenient for folks like me who enjoy the cuisine but may want a little less heat to better enjoy the flavors of the dish. I decided to try out the shrimp biryani dish which was excellent: well seasoned, large shrimp portions, vibrant ingredients, and even on a milder spice level still had the right amount of kick to it. Overall a very enjoyable authentic cuisine experience and I highly recommend giving them a try. read more

I don't get it. Ok place, nothing wrong, but nothing great. Not the best Indian food that I have had.

Order the chettinad!!! Trust me, it's so good. We asked what they recommended it and we trusted them and are so glad we did

Best Indian food I've found in the city. Absolutely love the vegetable korma, the paneer makhani, garlic naan, and samosas. I do wish they had vegetable pakora though. There's usually some type of buy 1, get 1 deal on Uber Eats as well. Haven't visited the actual restaurant yet but intend to in the future. Food is usually made pretty quick and comes hot still though! read more

This place has a nice ambiance and cool bar with really creative drinks. My friend got a spicy mango jalapeño cocktail that was quite interesting. For non alcoholic drinks, the mango lassi is soooo good, it is a sweet and refreshing balance. A perfect pairing to curry. The curries here are sooooo delicious. If you're okay with light spice the medium level spice is the perfect amount. The lamb Rogan Josh and Chicken Korma were both a hit! Also don't forget to try the garlic naan. Servers were really attentive and kind as well. read more

I genuinely believe I have now tried 90% of the Indian food in DC - relatively new spot, with indoor and outdoor seating. the bar is pretty, the tropical house music was oddly a vibe... I liked our big booth but it is always a bit awkwardly empty here - super sweet waitress, mid food. the appetizer, honey garlic shrimp, was very blah. four pieces of shrimp in a garlic sauce on some roasted onions. there was no honey sweetness and it just tasted like a small portion of a light stir fry - the chicken tandoori was super moist and flavorful. the best dish we got. very lemony which was nice to accompany the spice. it came with a chutney that was slightly cooking and some sort of curry sauce. I liked having the sauces to pour on the MOUND of rice at the table - lamb rogan josh was definitely better than anything we could whip up in the kitchen, but nothing to come back for. portion of meat was lacking and the flavor was just okay. for the price point we would rather go to indigo. or down the street to Bombay street food. - was for some reason the massive cup for beer made me have more respect for this spot, but this is probably the first Indian restaurant I've been to that is salt and pepper on the table?! i don't know what that even says read more

The origin of this place's name eludes me, but it is an interesting place. It's got a snazzy atmosphere and I was surprised it wasn't more crowded. There are other Indian restaurants in the area. I was happy with this one. Getting a dal that was clearly labeled as vegan, I asked for the maximum spice level and got it, with an astringent herbal tang to match. Ordering a mushroom naan provided an interesting flavor contrast and a good way to mop things up. A ginger tea was strong and ordering a pot was worthwhile. My old favorite Indian place in Southeast is gone, so this has a chance to become my new one. read more

I enjoyed the rich depth of flavor each dish has to offer. However, if I were to go back I think I'd leave the protein off of everything and just eat rice with the sauces and naan. We waited over 30 mins for our entrees so I'm docking off a star for the wait as well as the tough lamb and saag paneer. Vegetable Samosa: 10/10. We really enjoyed the two sauces that came with it. Chicken curry: 10/10. Our favorite entree of the night. Had a great balance of coconut and spice. Comes with basmati rice. Lamb Rogan Josh: 7/10. This dish packs some heat and the spice was just right but the lamb was tough. Comes with basmati rice. Saag Panner: 6/10. This was very herby. I wouldn't order it again. Comes with basmati rice. Bread Basket: 10/10. It came with two pieces of butter naan, garlic naan and lachha paratha. The laccha paratha was to die for! It has flakey layers like a crossaint! read more

Initially was going to the restaurant across the street but Indian sounded so good instead. I looked up the reviews and everyone's praises had me crossing the street. I was not disappointed and I concur with all the reviews. The food here is fantastic! The service was impeccable and the kindness from every person there just made me so happy and comfortable. I will definitely be coming back and i highly recommend eating here. Excellent experience! I got the Saag which had so many different flavors with the garlic Naan that complimented it perfectly! Great portions, left with a happy belly and leftovers as I was unable to finish it all although I wanted to try. I am having it for breakfast before my flight home! Food is really good. Staff knows their stuff and do a great job of serving you. All the food we've tried is outstanding.

Jab We Met is a great spot for both dine in and take out. I used to frequent their sister restaurant (NaanWise in Woodley Park) both when I lived nearby and after I moved to SE, so I was excited to see the owners opened a spot on Barracks Row. My go to order is the palak chaat, the vegetable samosas, and either the coconut chicken curry, the chicken Chettinad, or the chicken makhani (butter chicken). Staff is friendly, and there is plenty of seating. Not too far of a walk from the Eastern Market metro station. A very welcome addition to the neighborhood! read more
