The menu here is a la carte which allows you to build the meal you want and try a bunch of things which is nice but also dangerous since I wanted to try all the things! I ultimately ordered the 2 pc tenders which came with a honey butter roll, plus a side of the mashed potatoes and the seasonal honey butter corn on the cob. Both of the sides were good and the corn was definitely my favorite - I'd come back for that alone! I wish I'd ordered the drum/thigh combo instead of the tenders though since they were pretty dry. And I'd skip the roll entirely.
4/5 for the food, 1/5 for the service, 0/5 for not having on a/c on a hot day. We went on a Saturday around 1pm. There were not that many people considering it was a Saturday, and we walked right in. First thing I noticed was how HOT the restaurant was. As for the service, our server never got back to our table after giving us water- we waited for 15 minutes until I had to chase down another server to place our order. As for the food, I don't understand why it took 50 minutes to come out, when it was not busy. The girl who brought our food also accidentally brought out another item (tenders) that we didn't place, and gave an attitude when we told her we never ordered it and asked to take it out of the bill. As for the food, the chicken was pretty worth the hype. The bread wasn't as good as I had hoped given the hype, and the strawberry burrata salad was decent, just a little too much dressing. I'd maybe come back strictly for the chicken, but I hope the service would improve in the future.
Came across honeymoon on socials and had to try it. Good, attentive service. Not a long wait for food. The rolls are good and the honeymoon style sauce is great. Amazing crunch on the chicken. Enjoyed the lemonade, wedge fries are alright.
FINALLY made my way over to honeymoon chicken after seeing it all over my social media. We came on a Sunday afternoon and were seated right away. The restaurant is small though, so prepare to be in close quarters with patrons and staff. We ordered a variety of the menu! I had a two piece (dark) with a side of wedges. The meal comes with one honey butter roll, some pickles, and some pickled onions. My husband ordered a lobster slider (seasonal) and the chicken and waffles. First, the star of show - the chicken. Hot, crispy, well seasoned. Delicious! We also enjoyed the lobster slider and wedges. I was expecting to like the honey butter rolls more, but they weren't as soft as expected. The flavor was still good though! My husband also liked his waffle, but thought it was slightly overcooked. We also had their strawberry pineapple lemonade (good but very tart), the mango blueberry lemonade (so good!) and the Arnold Palmer ( I didn't try it, but my husband said it was great!). We can't wait to come back and bring some family with us next time to sample more of the menu.
I've gone to Honeymoon chicken a couple of times and during my recent visit I knew that I needed to write them a review. I've been sporadically dining here since 2022 and I'm happy to see that the business is still thriving. I came in recently on a Friday evening and almost all the seats were taken. That didn't stop them from providing great service. I ordered some chicken bites and fries to go and I'd say it took about 5 minutes before my order was ready. Very impressive. By the time I got home my order was still hot and tasted delicious. The crunch, the seasoning .. whatever sauce came with it was all sooo good. I'm definitely looking forward to paying them another visit soon and actually dining in. It feels like a dinner in there with booths and bar seating. Give the a try if you're ever in the Petworth area of DC! Also pictured below is an order that I got a couple of months back. It's their chicken sliders from the kids meal. Soooo good and a great price (like $8 or so)
I am back at honeymoon chicken after a few years and their chicken is still the best southern style fried chicken in the area! They now have caviar service so we tried the lobster slider, caviar bites, caviar fish, slider, and of course and 8-pc bucket with hot honey sauce. Their honey butter rolls are to die for. For Summer, they also have the strawberry burrata salad and watermelon feta salad which both exceeded my expectations, especially the strawberry burrata! Try their Matcha or mango blueberry lemonade, if you are not in the mood to drink alcohol! But if you are, you can get some Veuve champagne or strawberry margarita ! Everything is a hit, the chicken is juicy so it will be extremely satisfying!
I've seen this place mentioned so much on social media so I was excited to see what all the hype was about! The restaurant was more of a sit down place vs. carry out which was not what I expected. There was seating inside and outside. I was quickly able to sit at the counter. The staff were very quick and responsive with taking my order and serving it fresh. I got the Honeymoon chicken sandwich and fries. A customer next to me had similar options about his food as well which was greens and a 2 piece combo.Overall, it was ok but not something I would go out of my way for. They are building another one in VA so maybe I'll something else off of the menu there once it opens.
The interior reminds me of a back in the day diner a bit. There is a good amount of seating with some outdoor. There's a counter you can sit at as well. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. This was my first time here and I enjoyed it. They have good alcoholic drinks. The fried chicken was good, I really like how it's fried but the seasoning was too overwhelming, feels like there's too many flavors going on. The cost matches what you get.
Honeymoon Kitchen went viral for all the right reasons. Great fried chicken, reasonable pricing and keeping to the roots of why they started. Diner style seating, outdoor seating. Comfort food with a twist, not an uppity vibe. We got the caviar chicken bites appetizer. Breaded chicken bites topped with crème fraiche and caviar. Great balance and an extra oomph. Hot honey chicken sandwich was amazing, filling and bursting with flavors . Their Kale salad is served in a generous helping bursting with flavors and textures. Street parking, friendly service and would highly recommend!
I finally made it to HoneyMoon Chicken for dinner and honestly...I get the hype. First off, the vibe is super chill-- perfect for a casual night out or grabbing food with friends. You can even see the food being prepared, which I always appreciate. I wanted to try something a little different, so I ordered the Caviar Bites (chicken bites topped with caviar, crème fraîche, and chives). It was my first time trying that combination and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was actually really good-- definitely a yes for me. For my main, I got the three whole jumbo wings "Honeymoon Style," which is their signature hot honey, served with a honey butter roll. I'm not usually a fan of spicy food, but this had the perfect balance-- slightly sweet, a little heat, and a tangy flavor that really stood out. The wings were easily the highlight of the meal. I also had a tequila-based drink with pineapple and cranberry juice that was super refreshing (wish I remembered the name!). The best part? The prices are very affordable for the quality and portion sizes. I'll definitely be coming back for those wings.
This place has slightly gone down since their opening. We were sat right away at a booth. Unfortunately, it was REALLY sticky! We had to ask our server to wipe down the table. We ordered the bone-in chicken (came with a roll), mac and cheese, and poutine. The chicken still tastes amazing! The exterior is super crunchy and had a nice golden brown color. The meat itself was juicy and was cooked perfectly! The roll was honestly the star of the show. It was soft, fluffy, and buttery. Everything you want in a roll. The mac and cheese was decent, could have a bit more flavor. The poutine was good but my only note is that they advertised cheese curds in the dish but it was only slices of cheese. Overall, a good flavorful meal!
I came here yesterday afternoon after a long adventurous trek through D.C., I was greeted by an extremely nice staff and was given water almost immediately. After I ordered I was given amazing portions of chicken. I got Hot Honey on the side, and wow the regular flavor itself is its own unique taste. I really enjoyed the chicken. Most of them were pretty juicy. It's a pretty small place with a few booths but when it comes to fried chicken it doesn't take long to finish your meal but just in case there's also outdoor seating if you're worried about getting cramped. I also wanted to give my upmost respect and gratitude with the staff. During my visit, a stranger actually came in and unexpectedly stole some of my food. The staff were super attentive and gave me a new fresh plate and quickly took action against the stranger. I hope to be coming back here again!
A Sunday dinner date found us getting Honeymoon Chicken to go. We got an 8-piece chicken bucket, a 4-piece combo (red-hot dusted) with a side of mac & cheese and a side of brussel sprouts. Delicious! It took a lot of willpower not to dig into the chicken while driving from the restaurant! The chicken is perfectly seasoned, crispy and juicy. I prefer the honey-dusted original, but the red-hot dusted earns its name. What's the better side - the buttery rolls or the mac & cheese or the honeyed brussel sprouts? Only way to know for sure is to try it a few more times! This is probably the best fried chicken in DC right now. If you haven't tried it, you gotta get in line - it's gonna be worth it!
This is a cute little spot that is located in the college part of DC. Parking is limited within walking distance of the restaurant. They have plenty of patio seating around the restaurant and a modest dining area with bar seating and a few booths. The staff was friendly enough, but I will admit that I had very limited interaction with them The restaurant serves salads, fried chicken, sandwiches, and caviar. I know that is kind of random. I placed my order online. I ordered the 4-piece chicken, dipped in hot honey. I also got a side of Brussels sprouts. The food was delicious. The chicken was amazing, and the Brussels sprouts were scrumptious. They were both tasty, and I highly recommend them. This restaurant has some delicious food. They offer a student discount. I am glad that I made it here and highly recommend checking this place out. I definitely will be back soon. read more

We stopped by Honeymoon Chicken in DC and really enjoyed the food. We ordered the Honey Butter Lobster Sliders and the fried chicken with the Red Hot Dust, and everything was seriously delicious. The Red Hot Dust was especially good, and I loved that they have both fried chicken and lobster options on the menu. That said, the service was unfortunately disappointing during our visit. We received the wrong side sauce and had to ask for water, plates, silverware, and napkins. I also wanted to add a couple more things to our order, but it took so long for someone to come back around that we eventually just gave up on adding them. It felt like we had to repeatedly ask for basic things throughout the meal, which took away from what could have been a really great dining experience. Overall, I would come back for the food because it was genuinely amazing, but I hope the service improves because the food definitely deserves better hospitality. read more
My recent experience at Honey Moon has been much better compared to earlier days a few years ago. No real complaints. For takeout, I do recommend ordering in advance as the street parking is limited in this neighborhood and their takeout operation seems to boom from individuals and third-party orders on high traffic days. I appreciate the quality and consistency upgrade since my first visit. The dining room decor is trendy and gives more diner vibes than chicken shack. They have some sides that are good, but not necessarily complimentary to fried chicken; more so to diversify their menu. I think it works because the concept isn't conventional southern fried chicken. There is indoor and outdoor seating although the indoor seating is not abundant, so if your interest is to dine in I recommend going early or shortly before close. Overall, a good experience and will visit again when in the area. REVIEW FROM JULY 31, 2023: Overall this was an OK experience. For fried chicken my experience here wasn't bad however it didn't necessarily leave me eager to return too soon. This was a take-out order however my drive home was not long at all and upon arriving home I was a bit disappointed that the chicken didn't seem as fresh and moist as I would have liked it to be. You can take a look at the pictures to see what I mean. The chicken looks like it was cooked and sat for a while prior it being given to me. If you are a fried chicken lover you know that fried chicken has quite a respectable shelf life after it has been cooked, so even though it wasn't ideal it still was edible. I'm thinking perhaps this was an off day for this place however fried chicken is one of those dishes that normally restaurants are consistent with if they specialize in fried chicken. I wouldn't turn down another opportunity to eat here and if I am in the area again I certainly will. Given them a try. read more

Wow wow wow! I saw a photo of these butter rolls and had to get my hands on them. They are so yummy, light, fluffy, buttery. It made me feel like I was eating little puffs of heaven. The chicken sandwich is also great, I wish there was a greater spice level, but it's a very well done sandwich. Sides are great too and they have something for everyone on their menu. Next time, I'd like to try they regular fried chicken plates. I was thoroughly impressed with the food. Service was just good, the food came out fast but it did take a minute to get anyone's attention to get refills. Nonetheless, I still look forward to coming back and trying some more delicious chicken! read more

My friend and I had an hour-long wait for the restaurant nearby last Wednesday evening, so we decided to check out Honeymoon Chicken while we waited. It's been on my list for ages, but since I don't live close by and am rarely in the Petworth neighborhood, this was the perfect, spontaneous opportunity. We sat at the bar seating since we didn't anticipate being here for long and decided to split a small combo to sample. The ordering process is pretty simple. You scan the QR code in front of you, order via Toast, and close your tab when you're done. 2 PC COMBO (DARK - DRUM & THIGH) - 8.95 This came with two pieces of dark meat chicken, honey butter roll (topped with chives), and pickled cucumbers and onions. If you want sauces on the side, there's an additional cost. We chose "Original Honey Dusted" flavoring for our chicken, and the skin was thin, yet super crispy and well-seasoned. It was probably one of the best chicken skins I've had, and the dark meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. We enjoyed the hot honey and buffalo sauce? on the side. The hot honey was OK, and we preferred the slightly spicy buffalo sauce more. The dinner roll was super soft and fluffy. This was enough food to keep us motivated while waiting for the other restaurant. But after we had dinner there, we both agreed that we enjoyed the Honeymoon Chicken more this time around. read more

My niece and I decided to try Honeymoon Chicken after a friend recommended it. Our first waitress was kind, but she switched out with another server who came across as argumentative. When I politely mentioned that the drink brought to me tasted like regular Coke instead of Diet Coke, she seemed more interested in debating it than simply replacing it. After trying a little bit of everything on the menu, we went back to our hotel and both became extremely sick. I truly hope it was just an unfortunate case of food poisoning and nothing more serious, but the experience completely ruined part of our trip. I ended up stuck in the hotel for two days feeling sicker than a dog. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I can't recommend this restaurant. read more

What a cute little restaurant in Petsworth!! I wish I was hungrier when I went because everything on the menu looked amazing. I tried some of the crispy chicken poutine and it was yummy. Everything remained crispy despite the gravy and melted cheese on top, and it was savory without being too salty. If I ever find myself in Petsworth again, I'd definitely stop by here to try a main entree and some sides. read more

Food -Where has this place been and why am I just finding out about it!! Ok, here is why you need to make Honeymoon Chicken your next place to visit while in DC. -The hot buttered rolls tasted like eating a cloud, super hot, fresh, and they literally melted in my mouth. The fried chicken had a sensational sweet seasoning batter, a crispy crunch with a juicy inside of perfection was a chef's kiss. Lastly, the Brussels sprouts were pure fire. We also ordered grilled chicken sandwiches, and although the chicken was juicy, we weren't fans of the slaw, but for anyone who is a coleslaw fan, this will be your jam. Ambiance - Small but mighty establishment with indoor seating available, nicely decorated inside, and a small outdoor seating area available as well. This place is surely worth a try!!! Parking -Parking can be tricky due to the restaurant being on a main road. I discovered Honeymoon Chicken through a social media post and I'm so glad we made it out to try this place. The honey butter rolls was one of my favorite things we ate during this trip! There's plenty of seating either inside or outside. It's kind of stuffy inside because of the open kitchen layout so I'd recommend going outside. Seat yourself and order directly through the QR code. I ordered the Hot Honey Dipped Chicken Sandwich and it wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. More sweet than spicy, if anything, but that's probably because of the honey. The breading of the chicken was crispy but because of how thick it was, it didn't feel like there was a good sauce to meat ratio and found some bites a little flavorless. It also would've been so much better with dark meat. Now, the best part of the meal was their honey butter rolls. So good that I ended up ordering a second round! It's soft, fluffy and they're smothered with a sweet sticky glaze. There's also salt flakes sprinkled on the top and it's a nice contrast with the sweetness. Eat it fresh so you can fully enjoy it! The service was also great too! Most people probably wouldn't interact much with the staff since you order and pay through the QR code. But we messed up our order and they still replaced the food without charging us any extra. Everything also came out really fast. Overall, a good meal and I'd love to try their other fried chicken dishes to see how they compares with the chicken sandwich. I would honestly come back just for the honey butter rolls! read more

Delicious, flavorful, moist chicken! They have nailed the food here. I tried the classic chicken sandwich and got mac and cheese and WOW everything was so incredibly flavorful. Cannot say enough how good their chicken was. The Mac and cheese was also quite tasty and tasted better than it initially looked. Stopped on with friends during it wait for Menya Hosaki (quick S/O for some great Ramen in the area) but it was a great vibe on the inside! We were there during happy hour & split some honey butter buns & some chicken! Everything was very fresh and flavorful! Unfortunately we did get the spicy chicken but it wasn't very spicy but overall the chicken was very fresh, crunchy and juicy as well! We also got drinks, the John Daly, and those were very refreshing and we also the lobster roll which had a lot of meat and was fresh as well! I saw a TikTok about this cute little restaurant and I'll have to say it was cute and tasty! This spot is very quaint. So limited seating I believe they had four booths. Two tables and ten barstools around the bar area. The aesthetic was retro kinda vibe. I think they were trying for a diner vibe too with rock music playing. For drinks my sister got a strawberry lemonade that she said was sweet and refreshing. I got an ice match latte. The server came back to the table and ask what was my milk preference before making it which I thought was super sweet and considerate. My latte was pretty good not sickening sweet and the cold foam look house made was the perfect touch. For food my sister got the two jumbo tenders. Understand all the sides are à la carte so she got a separate order of wedges. She got a side of house ranch with her order and ketchup. I got the two piece chicken dark meat that was a thigh and leg honeymoon style which is a tangy sweet honey and only very slightly hint of spice sauce over it. I order a side of Mac & cheese. I also order a side of brussel sprouts. Both orders came with a biscuit topped with a baked on honey butter crust. The chicken for both of us was crispy and flavorful. The honey butter biscuits tasted like clouds of flavor in our mouths. It was not steroid chicken. The Mac and cheese was very impressive cheesy and more than mild but not grandmother/ auntie seasoned. It was cool the cheese sauce on it was very rich and creamy. I wasn't expecting to like it because for those of us that know when you see it they used different noodles than normal but it was still a good 7/10. Solid good Mac & cheese . The Brussels sprouts were cooked to perfection and personally I don't mind eating them naked because I like them I was expecting more of a honey sauce on them. They tasted more just like roasted sprouts which again I would be fine with but if your expecting a big honey flavor : don't. Food was really good. Came here with a friend after seeing it on IG, and it did not disappoint. We definitely ordered too much, but the chicken was worth it. From the buttered buns to the margarita everything was flavourful. The chicken itself was nice and juicy and seasoned perfectly. It was definitely packed during the lunch hour, so we ended up sitting at the bar. But the crowded warm room just added to the experience. Honestly, it's was just OK. Just OK. It's a QR Code service, which I appreciate, but it was slow and they missed orders in the end. While the staff responsive, they just seemed overwhelmed. Two of our sides were missed with the Mac and cheese and corn. The rolls that came with the chicken, were slightly warm, but not warm enough. It seemed like they were meant to be hot rolls but just slightly stale? The chicken was fried well, but it wasn't anything special. I think Popeyes is better! lol. The chicken almost tasted like a seasoned dry rub? The coleslaw was low key the highlight. It tasted fresh and had a hint of cilantro. I think I just expected more for the hype. Nothing bad, but nothing great. It's worth a try to say you did. A tip is you can just go to an open seat to begin ordering. Honeymoon chicken was highly anticipated. The viral chicken spot has gained a lot of traction in DC within the last couple of years. I orders a few different items. A few of them were seasonal. I ordered delivery, I got the honey dipped Brussel sprouts, the gochugang sandwich, and two flavor wings. The brussel sprouts were average, good cook but lacked flavor. The wings had a nice cook, the garlic Parmesan lacked flavor, but the herb ranch was amazing. The honeymoon buffalo was good, a little Smokey, and savory. The chicken sandwich......omg. Was amazing! This place has been on my list since I moved to DC and I finally made it! It's smaller inside than I thought, just a bar counter and a few booths. We were sat and got water and menus immediately and were able to order within a few minutes! I tried the chicken sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and it was amazing. My brother got the 2 piece chicken which means I also got to sample the rolls and the fries which were also delicious! I thought prices were super reasonable as well. Definitely the best fried chicken I have had in the area! It was extremely crispy, seasoned well, and not too rich which I was worried about. The bread was exceptionally soft, chewy, and fluffy, and everything was so well seasoned - not too salty, perfectly flavorful. The honey chicken banh mi was perhaps my favorite - the sauces on it were delicious, and the pickled vegetables balanced everything perfectly. The hot honey chicken sandwich was also delicious! Super crispy and yummy. The Mac n cheese was good, the sauce is so so delicious, but the noodles were a little too overcooked and a bit mushy. Overall though I will be coming back to try everything! I am extremely impressed. Service was good and attentive, food came out fast, and the ambiance was clean and lively. Definitely a great place to bring guests to! read more
