Several restaurants still remain from my internship days over a decade ago. I have fond memories of traveling across town to Kochix to eat the crunchy Korean fried chicken. I have a less fond memory of buying ~$100 of Kochix for my friend's birthday party because she asked me to, then only getting paid back for about half of it. I was at Electric Cool-Aid nearby and thought I should give it another try for the first time in several years. I did a quick takeout order online, walked over from Electric Cool-Aid, and waited a few minutes inside the carryout. I got the soy garlic and honey hot three wing and and two drumstick combo. A total bill of $13.53. The fried chicken is not actually put into a box a tray in a bag. The wings and drumstick were still decently crispy when I got home. Great flavor on everything. I finally gave this place a try and unfortunately I wasn't that impressed. The chicken was fried good and the sauces were flavorful but to me It was pretty basic. Plus the chicken wings were huge. What I didn't like the most was the packaging. They just threw the wings in a paper bag. There was no proper container. You would think that they would have that for sauced wings. The building is small itself, so only about 3 - 4 people are able to enter at a time And parking is very limited. read more

What an unexpected gem! My friends were looking for something quick for lunch and we would not have found this spot had we not been staying in a neighborhood nearby. This is definitely a hole in the wall-type restaurant. The exterior isn't great, and honestly the inside isn't much either. There's no place to sit, you come to order your food and go- but the service and quality of the food more than make up for it. We ordered an XL order of soy garlic wings (20 pieces) and a M order of honey spicy (10 pieces) and it was more than enough for 6 people. The crunch and flavor were TOP. I heard great things about the honey lemon pepper wings only after we placed our order, but unfortunately we didn't get to order any. I also have to shout out the employee that took our order. Ding ding ding! We have a winner! This place is UNBEATABLE in the category of wings. Whether you like Korean inspired wings or not it will be difficult to deny the GREATNESS here. Don't take it from me...if you're on social media you'll see that food influencers have travelled from afar to rate these wings. And even they were in disbelief how amazing these wings were. Utterly surprised I don't already have a review for one of my fav spots in DC! Kochix is a locally-owned Korean fried chicken spot. This should become one of your regular spots for ordering out. Their drumsticks and wings are ginormous and delicious. My go-to orders are the 10 wings, half hot honey spicy and half honey lemon pepper. They're always nice and crisp and easily heated up for a future meal in my air fryer. I don't love their fries, but their onion rings are tasty. Even better are their corn nuggets! They're corn fritters with whole corn inside, a corn lovers dream lol This is a crowd pleaser as I've served them to friends and coworkers. Alas, there isn't really space to eat here aside from a short counter against a wall. Upon arrival, the 13 people packed into a 5x5 box, plaques from countless new reviews, and handwritten prices let me know these drums were about to be pure gas. Coming in a couple signature flavors, I got one of their newer flavors-honey lemon pepper. I took a short walk back to S St, sat down, and indulged. For about 15 bucks for 5 drums this place knows their worth. The bite was satisfyingly crunchy, the perfect balance between crunch and flavor! although these wings were a little bit too pricey for what I would normally pay, the quick service, unmatched flavor, and the fact that this is locally owned means I would 110% come back to support a neighborhood spot. They had lost one order and others were messed up. There is street parking available, that is relatively easy to find. This place is small and is strictly carryout. My wings were decent, but I like my wings coated in their respective sauce. These wings were sporadically covered in sauce. Don't get me wrong, my wings were good and everyone like their food. I have just had much better wings at similar places. I will warn you that there is a bit of a wait here, as it is with most Korean Fired Chicken joints. LOVE Kochix! I crave these wings often. Ordered on DoorDash but have also been to pick up an order on my own after that. The wings are a great size, as a ton of wing places are skimping and giving you the tiniest scrawny little wings. They're so crunchy and the sauces are good, definitely recommend the honey lemon pepper and soy garlic. They're not your typical wing joint chicken wings as they're more Korean style. Love the wings and will be ordering again in the future! If you want to grab them, be warned not a lot of parking in Shaw and no indoor seating or anything, just a counter. Some of the most hype chicken wings in the city. Kochix definitely lived up to the hype in my opinion. I ordered the honey lemon pepper flavor. The wings were made to order, so they came out nice and hot. They're Korean style fried chicken, so the corn starch batter makes them EXTRA crispy. The lemon pepper seasoning wasn't too heavy (I hate when they overdo the seasoning, leaving the wings way too salty) and the honey added a nice sweet balance to the flavor profile. I ordered 15 wings and it took about 10 minutes for my order to come out. There's only take out available, so if you don't live in the neighborhood, you might want to eat your wings in the car to get the fresh experience (or at least try 1 wing right away like I did.. lol) overall I give these wings a 9/10 and I can't wait to go back and try all the other flavors. read more

They double fry it so it's extremely crispy.
