Casual spot to get some flavorful asian fusion comfort food. Concept is good with a simple menu so everything can be done well. We tried the brussel sprouts, smashed salmon, shrimp/scallop noodles with black bean sauce, and orange-ish chicken and liked everything. The smashed salmon was my least favorite due to the small salmon to veggie ratio but it was still solid. Also some of the chicken was dry, but it was mostly very good. A great dinner spot for the college crowd especially if sharing dishes. Solid 4-star experience.

I tried their lamb cumin dish and their dumplings. I think the food is great and it is spicy and flavorful. I do think they put a lot of oil and I hope it's some healthy oil. One thing surprised by is the pricing - you would expect the dishes to be lower-priced given that this is a fast food like place but they're still on par with restaurant prices..

Spicy Bulgogi Stir Fry

My boyfriend (the picky eater) and I LOVED Chiko! We got carry out, and the food alone was so phenomenal. We got Bulgogi, that was his favorite. I'm used to the meat being firmer like steak, but it was tender like stew meat, which he loved. We also got Orange-ish Chicken that was light and delicious. My boyfriend who doesn't like vegetables liked the blistered green beans (which I knew I'd like and they did not disappoint). We had pan fried dumplings too which were very yummy. The pudding dessert was surprisingly delicious!!! I would eat that every day for breakfast and dessert. Highly recommend Chiko!

One of my favorite restaurants in DC! I always recommend it! Love the Orangish Chicken, Fried Rice, and Coconut Custard. The space is small but typically not full. You pay at the register which makes it easy to itemize the bill and pay per person.

Omg so good! Orange chicken delicious! Crunchy outside tender inside. No nauseating taste or texture like normal Chinese food sauce great rice great service fast Bubble tea amazing! Fresh and floral. Love the pearls and the flavor combo I wasn't crazy about the egg roll from what I remember. The chicken was much better

This is a cute Asian food shop in DuPont that can be found throughout the DMV region. I personally thought this place had chill vibes and was very casual. You order food from the self-order kiosk and sit anywhere within the restaurant. The food came like 10ish minutes after we placed our order. The prices for this place, in my opinion, were a little steep compared to other places in the DMV + Panda Express. Although the food didn't have the best value per se, I still enjoyed my meal. Orange-ish Chicken - stand out from this assortment of food. Chicken was crispy and the sauce complemented the chicken. Rose Tteokbokki - also included the meat. It was pretty good, although I didn't enjoy the mushrooms with the dish (I'm not a fan of mushrooms) Kimchi - pretty standard. Nothing to say Overall, I would go back to this place if the occasion arises.

Shrimp dumplings!

Got the dumplings, and only regret not ordering more. I did the happy hour special and got chicken, and the shrimp dumplings by the suggestion of the host- he was also amazing nice when i came to pick up. Dumpling had their own unique sauces and both sauces were just as good as the dumplings themselves. I definitely recommend this place, and would love to come back with a large group to order one of everything on the menu.

I was really excited to try Chiko, as it has some of the best reviews and constantly wins awards. Unfortunately, it was the worst meal I've had in DC. I opted for the Orange-ish chicken because it's one of their signature dishes and the description sounded excellent. However, the chicken I got was exceptionally dry, even when covered in sauce. The meat was red/pink, hard and stringy - almost as if the chicken was cooked the day before and then fried when I got there. It's possible that I got a bad batch or went at an off time (Tuesday at 5pm), but for $25, this was nearly inedible.

Galbi dumplings, wings, and rice cakes

Came here right around 5 and landed in time for the happy hour. We luckily got right into the dining room and didnt have a wait at all! We ordered quite a few plates and just shared for a party of 4. We tried the happy hour shrimp dumplings and the galbi dumplings! The galbi had a nice sweeter (mayo based?) sauce with scallions. Our small plates came staggered which was great cuz they came out as soon as they were done. The fried rice bowl was definitely for smokey flavor palate lovers with the bacon, peppers, egg, and charred pulled chicken. The green beans were delicious and a little spicy. The brussel sprouts were phenomenal! They were crispy with garlic and mushrooms... so good! The fried korean wings were savory and crispy even with the sauce on them! We had a full order of 6 and even wanted more! We did have a few drinks too. The pear spritz thing was delicious! We loved it and cant wait to be back! Jake n kev

Chiko unites Korean and Chinese cuisine and the result is a marriage that will delight your tastebuds and make you a repeat customer! We ordered the Orange-ish Chicken, Chilled Peanut Noodles, Soy Glazed Brisket, Chicken dumplings and Veggie Dumplings. Each was a stand out dish worth ordering again, with ingredients that blended well together while maintaining their distinct flavors. They use a house made pickled jalapeño in their dishes that my spicy loving Mexican tastebuds enjoyed. My son, who is more heat sensitive would have preferred to leave out the jalapeños. The dumplings were PERFECTLY pan-fried and the filling had just the right amount of seasoning and moisture. The accompanying sauces were AMAZING...don't let a drop of that heavenly sauce go to waste! The Orange-ish chicken deserves its own review! The dish blended the perfection of Korean fried chicken and the Chinese flavors of orange sauce. I especially appreciated that the orange sauce was served separately which helped retain the crunch of the chicken. Service was friendly with reasonable wait time. Though small, we had no problem finding seating for 3. Well done Chiko! OurCalifornia family is excited to visit your CA location in Encinitas!!

Being a dumpling superfan, I was frantically searching for a dumpling fix when I relocated from Asia. Fortunately, not far away from my stomping grounds, I found my fix. Was it the sign that hangs outside the doorway that advertises "Dumpling Happy Hour" or was it the fact that this restaurant chain has been so highly regarded by institutions such as the James Beard Foundation? Being a sucker for dumplings, this was one of the first places that I tried, and I keep coming back. The concept is cool - fusion between Chinese and Korean food (and of course western fingerprints) there is so much diversity of food and flavor. Being the dumpling fan that I am, I highly recommend all dumplings. Served in metal bowls and served at typical asian speed (super fast from order to table), these gems of deliciousness never disappoint. My favorite dumplings are probably the Garlic Shrimp dumplings. Making my way down the menu, you cannot miss the Double-Fried chicken (get the sauce on the side) the Orange-ish Chicken, or The Chicken + The Egg fried rice. Both chicken dishes are so mind blowing that you will wish you had more. Come with friends so you can try them all is my advice in this situation. Also, the side dishes are all amazing - I never leave without trying the delicious Kimchi. The only negative that I would call out is the acoustics. The place can get quite loud, and not in a pleasant, music-filled way. There are loud sounds from the kitchen, loud music and then the people trying to converse over these. Depending on when you go, these can be factors, but I quickly forget after I start crushing some dumplings.

Really great glass noodles with vegetables. Get ready for some spice! Friendly service, but not too much atmosphere. Go for the food.!

Bulgogi tots Side of rice w furikake butter

I have to say this is pretty good. I know delivering meat and sauce on tots would make it very soggy so I asked for deconstructed version hah. These tots stayed crunchy for a really long time I was very surprised. The sauce is a little cheesy, good to dip the tots. Bulgogi has more pepper than I want. Kimchi and rice are okay. The menu doesn't have a lot of options tho.

I remembered a review in the WaPo when it opened said that Onggi had a spa like atmosphere -- I was in! Onggi provided the exact amount of cozy I was looking for, the pink salt slab seat was heated (I'll be back in January!). The lunch menu has several options, but it appeared everyone in the dining room had the lunch combo for $38. I was craving soup, so I got the short rib soup, but my dining partner got the combo. Both were large portions served with rice, and given the neighborhood, I felt they were worth the price. If you use inKind they are currently listed there. Onggi is a great neighborhood Korean restaurant for when you want something slightly more upscale. I'll return!

However, dinner caused me some issues: I got glutened. My partner and I went for my birthday dinner. I had been wanting to try Onggi because I love Korean food and their menu says that it's been crafted to avoid gluten. They say that only the asterisked dishes are not gluten free. But I got glutened. Even though we didn't order anything asterisked and I let the server know that I have celiac. My partner has been trying to reach the manager to find out what had gluten in it. But even with multiple calls, he can't reach them. (Not a good sign.) We wanted to be able to say in the review which dish had hidden gluten, but since we can't have a conversation with anyone there, all I can say is stay away. If you do try it- and I understand why you'd want to- avoid the vegan bulgogi. I just have a sneaking suspicion that's what did me in. But the menu said it was gluten free, so--?? Also, go sometime when they aren't too busy. We were there on a Saturday night and I think they might have only had two servers on (with multiple table support staff). There was at least one large party, plus the regular tables, and two servers were not enough. It was very difficult to flag someone down and double check our meals or ask our server anything after they started to get busy.
