Loved the sushi here.. this might be my new favorite spot. Very happy with everything we got- so fresh and delicious. I could tell they use high quality ingredients. The order was packaged nicely and looked wonderful. Highly recommend!!
I recently visited this place, and the staff were incredibly friendly. It felt like a hidden gem, and the food was excellent. The tuna was fresh, and the toro and Japanese uni were absolutely delicious. It's definitely a place I'd love to visit again.
Slightly off the beaten path, so you will likely miss it if you don't catch the sidewalk sign directing you down the canal. Pretty small spot with a friendly staff. You place your orders downstairs and they bring your food to you up stairs. Fish was really fresh and everything is priced pretty fairly. My favorite item was the yellow tail, and the salmon belly was probably a close second.
Still my favorite... family owned very high-quality fish you won't be disappointed, it's in a very charming spot in Georgetown.
i've seen this place on yelp and it was on one of my lists to visit. I finally got a chance to go today and i was very impressed with the quality of the fish. It's definitely a whole in the wall kind of place that pleasantly surprises you. I ordered the salmon belly seared nigiri, toro nigiri, yellowtail tail belly nigiri and crunchy spicy tuna tempura cut roll. I liked everything except the spicy scallop roll. There was an overload of sauce on top while most of these kinds of rolls are typically mixed in with the fish. It was a little too much and i decided to send it back. The waitress gave me a really hard time although if i knew it'd be that way i wouldn't have said anything at all. After she thought about it for a solid 10 minutes, she decided she's take it back. The service is fairly quick it was just this run in with our waitress that made the service experience not a 10/10. Food quality is 10/10 service is 6.5/10. Would definitely come back though just because this fish i couldn't imagine going long without!
Hidden gem! This restaurant is truly worth visiting!! You order downstairs and then they give you your table number and eat upstairs. There are only a few tables but they're not super cramped. It's nicely decorated with open windows overlooking the canal. There's enough light. The service was great, they were very courteous with good menu suggestions. They were friendly as soon as we walked in. I got the baked salmon roll and it was INCREDIBLE!! I got the green salad as well, which was very refreshing and yummy. Highly recommend!
I've been going to Bluefin for sometime now and finally got the chance to leave a review. Upon this visit I opted for the Salmon and Tuna rolls which both were refreshingly tasteful. Customer service with welcoming as usual. Ambiance is calming and dining areas are clean. Always consistent, I highly recommend Bluefin if you're in the area.
Cute spot on the canal, just tucked away from the hustle. The unassuming shop is tiny with only a couple tables as you walk in, but a handful more upstairs. We dropped in for a quick lunch Saturday and were the only customers while there. Service was adequate and cordial, pricing good. Smaller rolls, but my daughter noted the generous portion of fish in hers. Overall a nice lil lunch.
Best sushi ever! When we moved to DC in 2017, we went to as many sushi restaurants in DC as we can since we eat sushi at least once a week. After a year of searching, we found Blue Fin and became a regular. It's not a fancy place BUT they offer the best nigiris, rolls, and sashimi... and the owners are extremely friendly once you get to know them. Friends and family members I've brought here have all loved it too and agreed it's the best sushi they've had. After 5 years, we moved to California and we miss Blue Fin sushi so much! This is the first restaurant we visit every time we are in DC. If you are on a date, get some sushi take outs at Blue Fin and have a little picnic by the Georgetown water front.
Sushi was very delicious and fresh! Beef gyoza's were very crispy and filled perfectly. Staff was very friendly and quick, will definitely be back!

We have to start off every visit with a Sapporo. This is one of Georgetowns best Sushi. This place was recently renovated but has always given me the feeling of home. The staff is amazing, super friendly and helpful when it comes to making your selection. I find that even on the busiest days you will still get the same friendly treatment. I recommend trying the spicy scallop roll. You must try it, the seafood here is some of the freshest I have ever tasted. In addition the Philadelphia roll is simply but a must at this place. Once you go once you will be hooked.

Given DC's sushi landscape, Bluefin is a solid hole in the wall worth knowing about. Everything we ordered was good. Service was friendly and quick, which we appreciated. We were seated upstairs, which is a bit cozy, but nothing that takes away from the overall experience. read more
Third time is the charm, excellent service and such a romantic place. Upstairs is quiet and fresh, with the breeze coming in on a hot day. Get away from the riff raff of M street to this sweet jewel. The blue fin is shipped in from Spain, excellent baked salmon roll! Excellent avocado salad and of course a perfect Edemame. So much care is evident! read more

I decided to stop by Bluefin Sushi after a long walk around Georgetown and viewing the Canal Boat for the first time. This restaurant is located directly in front of the canal waterway and it's a good spot to stop in for a bite. I love the location, the staff were nice, but the food was blah. We ordered two rolls as we were making this the "appetizer spot" prior to dinner at another location. We ordered the Volcano Roll and the Caterpillar Roll. One roll had spicy tuna (Volcano) and the other had Eel (Caterpillar). The seafood itself tasted fresh, but the rice for the sushi was pasty/chalky. I'm not sure if the rice wasn't throughly washed to remove the starch or what gave it this type of consistency. It's a decent Sushi, but I've had better. You order at the register first and then get seated. This was super efficient as we didn't have to wait for a server to come by. I ordered the chirashi bowl and really appreciated the amount and the variety of fish they gave. Also got the spider roll--definitely enough to share with two people. The soft shell crab was quite hefty! It was all very fresh and great quality. read more
Bluefin has some of the BEST quality sushi I have ever had. It all tastes fresh, including the rice. The service is also pretty good. I usually go with my husband and my son. Sometimes, going places with a baby feels intense but the host always makes me feel comfortable by greeting us and even interacting with my son. The last time we went she requested two tables be put together upstairs because she knew all of the other bigger tables were already taken. Her attention to detail does not go unnoticed to me. They recently renovated and changed the way they take orders. You can tell this change was done with the customer in mind because you no longer have to come back to get your food when it's ready but it is now brought to you. It is a pretty place, small, with a clean restroom. Additionally, water is automatically given without asking, as a patron. I would HIGHLY recommend going to this place. read more

Food quality: 3 Only takeout during covid pandemic. Got tuna lover's platter and salmon lover's platter but both fish colors look a bit off. Salmon color was way too bright which almost looked fake. Tuna color is way too dark and is definitely not the best quality. Price has gone up a lot. A bowl of chirashi is now $27 which you can get in many similar Japanese restaurants for $18. Just saying. read more
Poor service and long waiting time but don't expect too much from an Asian resto. It is still a super cute hole in the wall Japanese restaurant run by a wholesome Japanese family. Pretty pricey too but I'm more than happy to pay for this meal to ensure the continuity of their business in the DMV metro area. read more

I came into Bluefin Sushi for dinner. I left disgusted at both the food and the service. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and seated upstairs. Within several minutes of sitting down, my server came. I ordered the 5 piece sushi along with the chirashi. I also specified that I was allergic to scallops. 5 minutes later, my 5 piece sushi arrived. Another 5 minutes later, my chirashi arrived. So far so good....until I noticed that I was served scallops despite explicitly telling them to not serve me scallops! This wasn't that concerning to me, so I pushed the scallops off to the side. But then, when I was eating the tuna, I noticed that a string like material was connecting two of the slices. Upon closer inspection, it appears to have been a parasitic worm. I brought these issues to the attention of the waiter. He didn't really have a response to the scallops, nor did he offer a replacement for the scallops. All he did was say "oh." As for the parasite, he first told me it was just a piece of radish. When I showed him that the worm was embedded in the flesh of the tuna, he changed his story and said it was "tender," claiming it to be an excellently fresh piece of sushi (I later checked with a friend who's a chef, he confirmed it was a parasitic worm). Through all of this, the waiter did not seem concerned or willing to rectify the situation. At the end of the day, I was still billed for my full meal, despite me being unable to eat my entire meal. UPDATE: I contacted the DC health department; they conducted an investigation on 7/17/19 and found: "No parasite destruction assurance information (letter) provided during the inspection for the raw fish the establishment has been serving. (CEASE selling raw fish to customers effective immediately)." This was one of many violations. read more

If you aren't paying attention, you'll walk right by this literally hidden gem. I usually don't trust take out sushi but this was 10/10. Beware, when they say spicy tuna - they mean SPICY! But I'm into that do its okay lol read more

Pretty good place for lunch! I ordered the Tamago and the Avocado Roll and my friend ordered the Yellowtail Roll and the Tuna Roll. We also decided to split the Sweet Potato Roll. This turned out to be a perfect lunch portion for each of us! I thought the Tamago and the Avocado Roll were both pretty good, but kind of expensive compared to other options. This was especially true for the Tamago since you only get two pieces. My friend thought the Yellowtail Roll and the Tuna Roll were delicious, but also pricey. The highlight was definitely the Sweet Potato Roll! I think I would come back just for this, I thought it was delicious, more worth the price, and pretty unique! Overall, our sushi came pretty fast and was tasty, but was on the pricier side. I would come back solely for the Sweet Potato Roll, but the other sushi was more expensive than I would like it to be. read more

I ordered bluefin to go and upon picking it up I realized my total was significantly different than what the online menu prices said and the total they told me over the phone. When I asked why the large discrepancy the guy pretended as if he could not understand what I was saying. I asked if I picked up the wrong order and he stated no and named the rolls I ordered. It was disappointing they would not honor their menu prices or provide me a receipt with the break down of each rolls price. I understand during covid businesses need to make more money but it was unfortunate they went a out it using trickery, highly inflated the price, and provided conflicting information. read more

Today, I was passing Bluefin sushi and decided to try this based on good reviews and friend's recommendation. But to be honest I got very disappointed. Not only the quality of food was bad with high price but also the place and service was bad too. You had to go through stairs for seating, then when you food is ready, you need to come back again and pick up you food! I don't mind to do that if there is light and you see the stairs but when is dark/narrow and uncomfortable, going back and forth could be problem specially with your food your hand! The looks on the food was beautiful that's why I give an start for the art but the taste was bad. I order the volcano roll and crab roll per the owner's recommendation. Miso soup was good! Volcano was ok but the crab was very smelly as if the meet is not fresh but too old! I'll never go back! read more
