Last minute dinner reservation at Perry's after seeing it on TikTok and Washingtonian's Top 100 Restaurants! Service was great and felt upscale without being pretentious. Our server, Devin, walked us through the specials and ingredients and you could tell the team genuinely cared about the experience. Standout dishes were the Udon Carbonara, Garlic Edamame Dumplings, and a pork chop special that wasn't on the menu. The chef does a great job making vegetables exciting and every dish felt intentional. The fish dishes were good but not something I would go out of my way for. The Udon Carbonara lowkey tasted like an elevated Kraft mac and cheese in the best way possible! The pork chop was cooked perfectly and a bite of the pork with the udon was chef's kiss. Skipped dessert but overall a really enjoyable meal. You can tell a lot of thought goes into the food and I can definitely see why they've earned a James Beard Award! read more

This is one of those reviews I hesitate to post, because really I want to keep this gem a secret. Happy hour at Perry's rooftop bar is a delight, and possibly one of the most economic ways to eat at a highly rated DC restaurant (in the Top 25, according to the New York Times). The menu offers a selection of sushi, salads, grilled fish and Japanese- inflected burgers (amongst other specialties), each portion generous enough to call a light meal. The discounts are figured commensurately - expect double digits, not the single digits you might pay for a "sip and nibble" experience. But a discount is a discount. Add to that the fact that the bar area is shaded, and you feel a sense of privilege compared to those diners on the patio, sweating it out in the full sun of a DC summer. Stopped by here for dinner with a friend and it was delicious! We got a reservation at the rooftop part of the restaurant and I'm so glad we did. It was a little rainy the day we got there and the inside was packed!! Def make a reservation ahead! Thankfully we didn't get rained on and the service was wonderful. We started with an order of edamame dumplings (yum!) and shared some karragge and the udon carbonara. This was our regular pit stop every time we visited DC...from as far back as 30 years ago (or more??), and with good reason! I loved the foods, the ambiance...and even the service was always on point. Can't believe I never bothered to put in a review 'til now! Anyway, my husband and I visited this old haunt this past week while in DC...and I was relieved to see that things are still going strong here. It's been awhile since the last visit, but it seemed the decor changed quite a bit...different wallpaper, for one! One other change I noticed was that they no longer cranked up the music like they used to. That was a bummer. The menu also changed...but we still found plenty of items that were tantalizing. We shared a few plates...from Miso Soup and Edamame Dumplings, to Garlic Fried Rice with Shrimp and a Sushi Roll (can't remember the name?). Also, this decadent Souffle Cheesecake dessert. Enjoyed all...but the big winners were the Edamame Dumplings and the Souffle Cheesecake dessert. YUM!! Think my husband had Kirin beer, and I tried this Lychee Martini. Tucked away in Admo, this spot really did dazzle me. It has a really trendy entrance, a bar area, and a rooftop patio. While tables are close, the vibes are great and service was phenomenal. They have a really extensive and good happy hour (bar only) that we definitely are going to try to hit next time. To start things off we got a bottle of Sake, the garlic edamame dumplings, and the seasonal scallop spring rolls. The dumplings were truly phenomenal, and the waiter even offered to bring out an extra to make it an even 6, which I thought was a nice touch. The scallop spring rolls were quite filling but full of scallop so you got your moneys worth. For our mains we tried the carbonara udon and two sushi rolls - spicy tuna and the eternity roll. DO not pass up the sushi- the spicy tuna was so fresh and not overly mayo based and the eternity roll was amazing, it felt so fresh and light with a great kick of flavor. The carbonara udon was visually stunning and quite tasty, also really filling so we took most of it home. It almost reminded me more of a bacon mac and cheese then a carbonara but I didn't mind that. For dessert we got the japanese souffle cheesecake and the little pastry with the red been and coffee gelato - both were light and airy and were a perfect end to a fantastic meal. There is no perfect meal, but.... I have no criticisms here. The food was incredible. To us it's on the same level as 3 Michelin restaurants we've been fortunate enough to experience. There is no shortage of umami and well layered flavors and textures in every dish. The small details to the well seasoned rice with perfectly sliced fish for the nigiri was the best of the best. Service was equally as excellent. Our host was very kind and explained the menu (our first time). I probably drank like 15 glasses of water and every single time my cup was slightly low someone would come by and fill it. Attention to water refills is an easy metric to overlook, but at Perry's they were on point. Atmosphere was casual nothing stuffy or loud. I went to review and realized I never finished my last one. The dining area is upstairs so be prepared to walk up a flight. Service is outstanding. The happy hour is amazing! Great deals for sushi, appetizers, and drinks. I got 2 maki rolls - spicy tuna and salmon skin, the Element, the little gem salad, and the caipirinha. All 3 rolls were delicious, but the spicy tuna was my favorite. I come here for the Little Gem salad too because it's just perfect with the anchovies and shaved Parmesan. Uncontested one of my favorite restaurants in DC. I love the happy hour, I love the rooftop, I love that they have great sushi and even better non-sushi/fish dishes, I love their wine selection! Every night I dream about the Garlic Edamame Dumplings. Every morning I wake up and crave the udon carbonara. Perry's is a nice Japanese-italian (and some american I'd say) fusion place in Adams Morgan. Easy to Uber to, but good luck parking. It' a .6 mile/13 minute walk from the Woodley Park Zoo metro. They need better signage. From what we could tell, there's nothing on the awning saying it's Perry's, and they're above another place (which does have a separate entrance) that at a glance looks like it shares the entrance. Perry's only has a small metal sign by the door. It gets loud in there, not overly loud, but it's something to keep in mind. Food is very good. You can tell that chef (for everything but the sushi) got a James Beard award. Everything was very flavorful. We really enjoyed our meal--the wagyu sandwich special was nice and the Karaage was nice too--and everyone else in our group was very happy with the Udon Carbonara, the mussels dish and their sushi. Service was nice too and our waitress was really insightful on everything on the menu. We're happy we came and will be back read more

Not so great initial service. I was running late because I got out of work late, so when I went upstairs and went past the hostess desk to see my friend (who already was sitting at the rooftop and already made reservations), I got stopped. I was 5min late at this point. I told the hostess my friend was up at the rooftop and she said sassily "there is a hostess to show you the way" (aka tell me to stay put). Then I waited 10min because there was a line. And then I got stopped AGAIN at the rooftop host desk. I just wanted to sit with my friend who I haven't seen in a couple months. They also told my friend we only had 1.5 hours at our table and I was already 20min late at this point thanks to all the waiting at the front desk. The sushi rolls were pretty good. The carbonara pasta was a bit dense and heavy so if you're craving for that, pair with something fresh first. AND THEN when we were paying, we could scan and pay for our food and we ended up paying for the WRONG TABLE and spent more than we needed to. Somehow the scan showed for the wrong table and we got stopped by the waitress because she said we didn't pay for our food. So we had to pay with card and told we were going to get our money back, so we'll see. Not a great ending either. I don't know if I'll come back here. read more

I came for happy hour (every day, but only offered at the bar), and it has great deals. The bar seats do fill up quickly so I suggest getting there within the first hour if you can. What an amazing experience at Perry's! When making a reservation on Resy, you do have to put a card down and I believe you are charged something like $15 per person for a no show or cancellation within 24 hours- so be sure you plan to be there before making a reservation! I had my eye on the carbonara udon when choosing to come to Perry's. We ordered the udon, shrimp katsu burger, some assorted nigiri, and mochi agedashi. I was visiting DC and one of my friends in the area suggested going to Perry's for dinner. I didn't really know what to expect going in but ended up having a good time anyways. For food, my friend and I split a wagyu roast beef sandwich, I got the chirashi donburi, and my friend got the udon carbonara. The wagyu roast beef sandwich didn't have a ton of beef on it and I thought there was way too much sauce. The flavor was a bit overwhelming for me. The chirashi actually surprised me with how much sashimi was provided. Compared to the nigiri prices, I thought it was very fair. The sashimi was fresh, but not of an impressive quality. Lastly, I tried my friend's udon carbonara and thought it was okay. The udon is a bit too soft for my taste and the carbonara sauce was too thick. I can see why people love that dish though, it's so rich! Throughout the night, service was fine. I thought one issue with the dinner was that the restaurant was wayyy too loud. I was basically screaming at my friend across the table the whole dinner! When we left the restaurant, it was honestly relief for our ears. We ordered the following: Karaage Fried Chicken: crispy and tasty (7/10) Udon Carbonara: very good flavor, love the udon(8/10) Garlic Fried Rice+Shrimp: just okay as this was strangely served in a ramen bowl and wasn't hot enough once it reached the table (6/10) Pink Panther sushi roll: very good and fresh. Love Perry's! I've actually only been to drag brunch (twice now) and have only heard good things about dinner. Drag brunch is super fun and the host drag queen makes special guests (e.g. people celebrating their birthday there) feel so special. My only small complaint is that both times I've been to drag brunch, we've been seated in the back by the bar while it feels like the middle of the room closer to the stairs is a better view of the show and experience overall. Came to Perry's with a couple friends for dinner. The restaurant's ambiance was nice- it felt like I was in an elegant Japanese sushi restaurant. My friends and I got a variety of dishes: -Pina colada mocktail: 2/5 I didn't realize their mocktails would come from a can or else I would not have ordered it. It just felt like carbonated coconut water with pineapple flavor. Was a bit disappointed with this - Chicken Karage 3/5 The breading was well seasoned and the karage paired well with the mayo, however, the chicken itself was dry inside Garlic fried rice: 4/5 I love garlic fried rice and the garlic came through in this dish. The runny egg made the rice a little creamier and the steak we got with it was cooked well. This is best shared with another person. It was a bit oily and my friends noted that it had too much salt (though I personally didn't mind it). Spicy salmon sushi: 4/5 Their sushi is pretty good here. I liked the rice and the crunch that was in this roll. The salmon was fresh, it was just a tad too spicy for my liking (it was spicier than most spicy salmon rolls I've had) Okinawa Tart/ 2/5 the presentation alone is a 5 but I expected to be wowed more from this dish. It tasted like a standard lemon tart. In terms of service, our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs. My friend noted that the food runners were a bit too trigger happy and was trying to take her food before she was even done. Perry's was fine but I'm not rushing to come back. I don't even like tomato soup but my friends were RAVING about it so naturally I get some. TELL ME WHY I AM CRAVING THAT RIGHT NOW. Mac n cheese was so warm and delicious. Basically, I was dipping all of my food (tater tots, grilled cheese, etc) into that soup because it was THAT GOOD. The pistachio chocolate was so rich. Perfect with coffee. The Oreo flavored dessert was like eating the crunchy bottom of a cake (the best part). Lastly, the Drag Queens! They all came out an hour after the time we all arrived. We were all full. Buffet was still open and staff still made sure all the food was ready and up for grabs! The mic the Drag Queens used was clear and loud so, yes I could understand what they were saying. The performance was phenomenal!!! Each Drag Queen had their unique characteristics. The music was ON POINT. The outfit changes were on point. Absolutely great experience! There was not one complaint at our table as literally everything we had was incredible. From the fried rice to the dumplings to our sushi, we loved every single thing that we ate. Not to mention the great sake that our waiter helped us pair with our meal. The dining room is small - it is a tight space that they cram a good number of tables into, which means it is on the louder side, but we didn't need to shout to be heard across the table so all's good If I would have had the wagyu burger, I would have given 4 stars - my fellow diners said it was good but average. But... I say, this is a Japanese Sushi place, you picked wrong! lol - for $100 buckaroos - 20 pieces of high quality, expertly prepared sashimi is a steal and it was quite good! I will call out the fresh, creamy, delicate uni which was superb -- I have had stinky, fishy uni at a few other high end restaurants in DC that was simply not good (not going to name names here, but message me and I will ) -- so this tells me the chef know what they are doing! Also - I have to call out my ice cream sandwich dessert, which was a little kiss from heaven! Lately I have had too rich, too large or just too complicated desserts at places and this was none of those (definitely not too large - I ate 3). Came here for dinner with a friend recently after having Perry's on my "must try" list for forever. It was delicious! We started with the karaage fried chicken which was delicious. My friend lived in japan for a few years and said it was spot on. We also got the Mochi Agedashi which is one of their signatures and it was very tasty. It's like an umami bomb full of flavor. Highly recommend. We also split 2 rolls: Crunchy Tiger and Fire Cracker. Both were delicious and I'd definitely get them again. The fatty salmon nigiri wasn't great - the rice overwhelmed the fish (too much rice) and the fish tasted a bit dry? While the scallop nigiri tasted better, there was still too much rice. Tbh the sushi didn't look very professional... some parts of the rice looked matted and not uniform. The price point wasn't bad so lack of finesse can be attributed to that. We slept on Perry's for the last decade until Tom Sietsema and Washingtonian's top 100 list brought this restaurant to our attention. Husband picked Perry's for his birthday dinner, since he loves sushi, but fortunately for me (no, I do not like sushi), there were plenty of dishes other than sushi, and they were delicious. We came here for dinner on a Monday, and had no problem scoring a reservation a couple days before. The restaurant was not full through the night, but it had a good number of patrons. Of course, street parking was abysmal, this being the city. There were many sushi and non-sushi dishes on the menu, which made it hard to decide what to order. By the way, they do have a specials menu, giving us more options! I decided to go for several dishes (thinking that leftovers were possible)- edamame dumplings, chicken kaarage, udon carbonara, and the chicken nanban. My husband had the Sushi&Sashimi for one. My husband helped me with the dishes I ordered, and the dishes were not too small, but well-sized for sharing, and we finished all of the non-sushi dishes with no leftovers. I would say that the Chicken Nanban was similar to the chicken kaarage, so I wouldn't recommend getting both on the same night. Every dish was great. My husband enjoyed his sushi (but wasn't a big fan of the sashimi), and did save his roll for the next day. We also ordered dessert- bread pudding and lemon tart, both delicious.
