This is an awesome addition to the Clarendon area and I'm so happy something like this has finally come into the neighborhood. The food at Sakaki is full of flavor and the prices are reasonable for the amount. I think, after being twice, that the AYCE is not as worth it for me personally because I'm not a big eater, but it's totally worth it if you want a lot of variety and you have a good appetite. I really liked the rolls in particular. The service was excellent- it was a nice balance of coming over once in a while to ask how we were doing without coming over too much. The vibes are awesome with a really nice interior- definitely a nice place to go for a date,!just to go with friends to have a nice meal, or even to grab a meal alone since the center has a large area for single seating. Fyi- for the AYCE menu, note that once you put in an order for a round, you can't order for another 10 min so be sure to order enough at a time. I missed lunch so AYCE sushi was very much needed! The silver level at $29 is a great deal with plenty of options including a variety or rolls as well as appetizer/side dish items. I tried as much of the menu as I could and the rolls and nigiris were definitely the highlight. I wouldn't recommend the crab korokke (too liquidy, and no crab that I could taste) or the karagge - save space for other items! The AYCE is 90mins and you can order every 10 minutes from a tablet. Sakaki Izakaya is an upscale Japanese restaurant work a visit! Their all you can eat options have so many great choices, you'll want to order one of those. We ordered the Diamond menu for $89. We started with all the appetizers that come with the menu and yum! Some standouts were the Wagyu uni and Salmon fois gras bites. Everything was super fresh and beautifully plated. Then we moved onto the nigiri, sushi rolls and other small bites. Another stand out was the pork kamamesi - cast iron rice dish with a poached egg on the side. Yum again! One note - the first round of nigiri was cut better than the second, so it was a bit inconsistent. However, the fish was super fresh and tender. We came here on a Wednesday evening to celebrate a birthday with a group of about 10 people. The restaurant offers three all-you-can-eat menu tiers, and we chose the Gold option ($49), which includes a pretty wide variety of items like yakitori, sushi rolls, nigiri, and appetizers. Overall, we were really happy with the selection and felt like it was a great value. We started with several appetizers including karaage, takoyaki, corn fritter pancake, miso soup, vegetable tempura, and crab buffalo. Everything came out quickly and was great for sharing. We also ordered a bunch of yakitori like shrimp, chicken wing, chicken thigh, and mushroom. By the time we got to the sushi, we were already getting full from the appetizers. Lesson learned for next time: start with the sushi and fill in with appetizers later so you can really enjoy the fish. Some of my favorites were the chutoro, salmon nigiri, and rolls like the Mango Tango and Blazing Tuna. The kamameshi (pork rice dish) was also really good and comforting. I also tried the shrimp katsu sando, which had been highly recommended in other reviews, and it definitely lwas a great choice. Next time I'd love to try the Diamond tier, which includes wagyu. I'll probably need to plan ahead and not eat all day so I can fully enjoy it without getting full too quickly. The clams were juicy and perfectly cooked but the flavors were truly one of a kind. This is a MUST order, we are still thinking about this dish til this day! Takoyaki: I am a huge fan of takoyaki, ive eaten them all around Japan and consider myself a critic for them. This place makes their takoyaki with the plumpest and juiciest octopus i've ever had, it had the perfect bite but the actual pieces of Tako made these so memorable. Kamameshi grilled Eel with eggs: This dish is served piping hot on a cast iron, and the eel is cooked to perfection! The eel is so succulent and served with an omelette on the bottom. Yakitori: We ordered Shishito Peppers, Kinoko, Negima, & Butabara and they were perfectly charred, and paired nicely with some togarashi on the side. You can't go wrong with any Yakitori here! Mekyabetsu: Delicious and addicting roasted Brussels sprouts that are served with heaping parmesan cheese! Sounds simple, but is absolutely DIVINE. The presentation is next level fine-dining as well. Drinks: Lychee Yuzu Lemonade, Calpico Cooler, Saru Saru, Night in Nagasaki Chutoro Nigiri and Yellowtail Nigiri: The chutoro had a rich, buttery texture that melted in your mouth, while the yellowtail was clean & delicate. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with three people and found there were only a few taken tables with a mostly empty restaurant. The restaurant has nice Japanese decor and dim lighting. The restaurant has sushi bar counters, booths, and tables. They gave us both AYCE and à la carte menus to review, and we picked the gold level (which includes all of silver too). You make your orders on a touch screen. There are some restrictions on the orders though. You can order up to 20 items at a time (total quantity) and can only place an order every 10 minutes. And you can be there for up to 90 minutes. For nigiri, you can only order up to 2 pieces per type, which is difficult when you have more than two people who like similar foods. The orders came pretty quickly, 10-15 minutes each. However, some would go "out of order" and back on with availability throughout our sitting. The shoyu fries were amazing, as was the nigiri, blazing tuna, pork belly, and tempura. After a few sushi orders, they stopped giving us wasabi and ginger and we did have to ask for more wasabi (as we had none left). They then brought probably a 1/4 cup's worth. The sushi rice wasn't packed very well and was falling apart with the nigiri, but the fish was overall very fresh and tasty. The nigiri doesn't come with wasabi beneath the fish/above the rice (as it typically would), just something to think about as you dine! The service was friendly and quick for any needs or questions. My girlfriend and I came here on Valentine's Day and they told us that the restaurant was fully booked, however it ended up being no wait time. We were seated by the high chair sushi bar area and notified that the menu has been updated since I was last here. The prices have increased so the best option is the Diamond option, as the lower tier option only has a limited selection. We were able to order everything from an iPad which was convenient. The Diamond tier excludes desserts, so you would have to pay extra for those options. The quality of the food is good and the service is quick. What a pleasure to dining in this izakaya restaurant! I will totally recommend to be seat by the sushi bar. My wife and I went there for AYCE in the weekend for dinner. We ordered sushi rolls, nigiri, eel rice dish, appetizers and yakitori. We were first being satisfied by the appetizers which is a great start. Then the Eel Kamameshi arrived. The Eel is well marinated with just right amount of rice, it will not take up all my stomach but enough to balance the Eel fat. Finally, all items from the sushi bar are amazing. I enjoyed my experience at this place, but good gracious there are so many restrictions and limitations! My friend and I came for the all-you-can-eat izakaya lunch experience. There are tiers to the lunch experience: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The Silver comes with about five apps, another five sushi roll options, and a few other things. The Gold tier comes with all the Silver options plus some other premium extras, and the Platinum comes with everything the Silver and Gold tiers offer, plus some super premium options (like hot pot). My friend and I were good with the Silver tier because there were a lot of good offerings there, but we were informed that Silver is not available on Fridays...only Gold and Platinum. So we ordered the Gold option... because cause the Platinum offered waaaaay too many food options that we were just not going to be able to fully enjoy. We started to order cocktails when the server told us that during lunch there is no bartender, so we would only be able to purchase sake, soju, beer, or soft drinks. So much for the specialty cocktails I wanted to try. I tried to order a bottle of green grape soju, but they were out of stock so I settled for Sapporo on tap instead. We were able to order our lunch on a tablet at the table. The food items came out quickly but unfortunately we ran into another rule... The restaurant requires that you wait 10 minutes before ordering anything else. I guess it's to prevent food waste, but it basically just caused us to order everything at one time since you are only given 90 minutes for this dining experience. I ordered takoyaki, steamed clams in a creamy broth, tempura udon noodle soup, a mango sushi roll, karage, and steamed edamame. The takoyaki was good, but as much as I like dashi, there was just way too much on top. And the pieces of dashi were way too big. They really overpowered the flavor of the takoyaki. The edamame was steamed perfectly and salted nicely. The steamed clams were amazing! A generous portion of tender clams but omg... That broth! I used the udon noodles from the tempura udon soup to put in the clam broth. You've got to try that combination, it's amazing! I could have eaten just that and had a satisfying dining experience here. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not serve side orders of udon noodles, and the udon noodle dish that's offered for lunch contains pork, which I don't eat. However, the server figured out why we wanted plain udon and instead brought us another bowl of udon soup with a minimal amount of broth so that we could add it to the creamy clam broth. I appreciate him doing that! The tempura udon soup was okay on its own. I appreciate that it was a pork-free broth, but the piece of tempura shrimp served on the side was not good. It tasted like it was fried in old grease. The karage was nice and crunchy. The sushi roll had a nice flavor, and the crunch from the tempura added a nice texture. I also appreciate that this particular tempura did not taste like it was fried in old grease. Neither did the karage. My friend and I were torn between the limited but no less tempting dessert options. We each ordered two desserts which were--you guessed it--not included in the price. I ordered the matcha ice cream and the mochi, while she ordered the biscoff cheesecake and another dessert I can't remember. The matcha ice cream was rich, but the flavor of the matcha was not at all overpowering. Delicious! The mochi was also good. I believe the flavors were chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate chip. This place has really cool decor. The walls contain hand-painted asian-themed murals with cherry blossoms and tigers and dragons. The back wall going towards the bathrooms is plastered in cool manga wallpaper. The bathroom is also very clean and chicly designed. While it was enjoyable, I'm not sure the dish stood out and tasted similar to some pre-packaged udon noodles I've had (3/5). My partner had the eel donburi, reporting delicious in flavor but a little overpriced and could have had more rice (3/5). Overall, the food was well done and great flavorwise. Amazing place that I am so glad to have found on my quest for all you can eat sushi. My wife and I went before seeing a Taylor Swift cover band at the Renegade and shared Sushi, Brussels Sprouts, Corn Fritters, Sushi, and Yakitori, as well as two mocktails and two cocktails. We felt like we didn't eat much but actually saved a good amount with all you can eat. It costs a bit more than many other all you can eat sushi places as it is higher quality sushi, more upscale, and has more unique appetizers and other menu items you cannot easily find in the area. The cocktails and mocktails are top notch as well. I would best consider this place a Japanese version of Ambar. So glad to have found this place along with others while going through a reduction in force as all you can eat sushi has been a comfort food saver during hard times. The ambiance is very nice and a blend of modern and traditional and our waitress was amazing. We made a reservation although there were some empty tables that night. I would recommend letting the waiter or waitress know of any food allergies, sensitivities, or dietary restrictions as there are a lot of items that are not typical and it is easy to mishear. What we thought was chicken thigh yakitori ended up being pork once I got the receipt. My wife's digestive system did not react to well to that, but we still loved our dinner and consider it our fault for not notifying our waitress. Overall, this and Kanji in Springfield are our two favorite all you can eat sushi places with Kanji better if you just want sushi and a fun innovative atmosphere with conveyer belts and bullet trains and here better if you want other Japanese foods that are hard to find in the area on top of some high quality sushi. Next up we will try Toryumon (DC and Arlington) that we loved Al a carte during happy hour in DC before they added the all you can eat menu. Saw a movie at the regal near by, was craving sushi and found this place on yelp. Im rating the drinks & food 2 stars. The ambiance, friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the bathroom would be a 6/10. Aesthetically this place is beautifully decorated. From the rich reds that coat the restaurant to the architecture it's a pleasing place to dine. I opted for the bar because I only needed one roll and figured I'd get a drink as well. I had: Ai Asagao - 2/10 - this drink sounded and looked amazing (tequila, Campari, Yuzu, lemon, honey, simple syrup) but it tasted like soap. I would not order it again. Mango Tango roll - 2/10 - soft shell crab tempura, mango, topped with spicy tuna, passion fruit and eel sauce. This roll was such a disappointment because it barely had any shrimp tempura in it. For a roll of this cost one would expect it to be at least half and half but there was less than 25% in each roll. Also the spicy tuna on top was inedible to me because it had no texture, it was just mush. More tempura in the roll would've balanced it out a bit but it got to the point where I was scraping the tuna off the remaining roll just to get through it. Do not come here for ayce dinner. All their sushi sucked and was not worth the price at all. They gave us the saddest pieces of tuna and tried to pass it off as "chutoro". As if I've never had chutoro before?? And their nigiri is loaded with so much rice topped with the thinnest piece of fish. Their yakitori also was extremely disappointing. The mushroom one was the only okay one, because it was juicy. The shrimp was so dry I could hardly swallow it. Scallop was okay, lacking in flavor and still quite dry. Their other cooked dishes were slightly better. All I can recommend is the nabe and kamameshi. But still, not worth the price for ayce. I paid $61 after tax+tip. They are very strict on their 90 min time limit and eating every grain of rice. Even the rice bowl that is the kamameshi, you have to finish all the rice or they'll charge you. The portions are generally small but makes sense because it's an izakaya. None of the food really blew me away, and we had a wide variety of food. However, the drinks were all so good!!!!! We got Kiss Me in Kyoto, Shirahama Summer, Night in Nagasaki, and Lychee Lover. All 4 were the perfect balance is refreshing and sweetness. The host desk made it seem like the restaurant was packed and no tables were available, though we ended up being seated at one and there were empty tables around us all night. At first, the food seemed good, until we realized all the yakitori were seasoned exactly the same. The cucumber salad lacked flavor generally. The nigiri was okay but nothing special - all different shapes and sizes too. The kamameshi was good and probably the best thing on the menu. For Valentine's Day, I was looking for a last-minute reservation and found Sakaki Izakaya in Arlington with an opening at 5 PM. As we approached, I grabbed the first available street parking nearby since my wife was wearing heels. To my delight, the entrance was decorated with red lanterns for a great photo opportunity of the wife. We were seated near the bar at a romantically lit table and were offered the happy hour menu. I took advantage of the drink specials while we opted for the all-you-can-eat option. The catch, something I actually agree with, excess waste incurs a 20% fee, which encourages mindful ordering. The experience starts with a selection from a limited menu of appetizers , (yakitori, rolls, or nigiri), signature rolls, and rice/noodle dishes. After that, you can order freely, making for a controlled yet fun dining experience. The music was great, and we had two attentive servers who were very helpful. Everything we had here was delicious! We came for the all you can eat menu and ordered several dishes to share. We tried Corn Fritters, Tempura Set, Chicken Karaage, Garlic Cucumber, Ebi & Momo yakitori, Tuna & Salmon nigiri, Rainbow, Sea King, & Crazy Dragon rolls, Spicy Tori hot pot dish, and Shrimp Tempura Udon. Not sure why, but they were only offering the $45 dinner menu during our lunch but it's so worth it. We didn't think we had excess leftovers at all (seriously just a few random bites and even our server said he wouldn't have charged us) but apparently the female manager thought it was excess and charged us on our bill. Besides that, service was great. The inside is pretty large and decorated beautifully. They have a big bar in the middle right as you walk in with nicer dining on the right and casual dining with high tops on the left. It seems there's been some bartender issues and they couldn't offer cocktails given they had no bartender onsite. They could only offer wine, beer, and sake from their drink menu. We did try a couple different bottles of their sakes which were really good. We both really enjoyed dining here and getting to try several items. If you're a sushi lover, this is the spot for you!! They have a la carte options but they also offer ayce lunch and dinner options. The quality of the fish offered was amazing not to mention all the other dishes such as appetizers and the noodle/rice dishes. All options are made to order so you will get the dishes made fresh. Appetizer wise, the softshell crab tempura was delicious, but I personally thought the buffalo sauce was not needed. I also really loved the aged tofu dish and the garlic cucumber. Specialty wise, I thought the seeking was memorable as well as the picante salmon. And their salmon was so buttery and so smooth as well as their chutoro! Those two are highly recommended as well as a yellowtail. My other personal favorite was a sweet shrimp so I highly highly recommend that if you're a shrimp lover. I will say while I love Katsu don not sure if I would personally recommend it as I thought the flavors were a little too bland even with the Katsu sauce. And for a drink, I ordered the night in Nagasaki and it was so good. It reminded me of a perfectly right Clementine. Service wise it was EXCELLENT. We were there for a friend's birthday so we were a large party of 16 but they did not skip a beat and they were serving us really quickly for the amount of food we ordered. It was very surprising. I will say the bar service was a little slow, but that was almost expected as they only had a few bartenders. While the restaurant is large and can accommodate larger parties, there is no dedicated parking so street parking is what you're going to have to do.
