Was in town with a few coworkers for a business project, and we all stayed in the same hotel nearby. The Liberty Tavern is a beautiful restaurant located a few miles from historic Old Town Alexandria. We were welcomed by a super friendly hostess, waited about 15 minutes, and then got a table upstairs. We ordered drinks, which arrived quickly. My drink was strong...just the way I like it. No complaints here. We ordered the toast with tomato and the calamari appetizers. The toast was excellent: very crispy, and the tomato was fresh and refreshing. The calamari was delicious. The breading was perfectly seasoned with a bit of spice. That breading was money. I ordered the Beef Tagliata e Fritte. Let me be clear: I've never been a fan of hanger steak. I've had plenty of bad experiences with this cut of meat. However, these guys did a great job with it. It was tender, perfectly cooked to a medium rare, and well seasoned. Bravo! The fries were good, and the arugula was incredible. The peppercorn dressing was amazing. To say the least, I walked back to my hotel completely satisfied with this meal. It was fantastic, and the historic setting was the icing on the cake.

Husband and I came and ATE! We did the bottomless brunch and 25 cent drinks. Our hostess was the coolest (can't remember her name). Vibe was easy going and cozy. The shrimp & grits and French Toast were AHmazing. I love that you can order small or full plates. We didn't feel rushed. The metro is right down the street which is xonve for future visits. Street parking is around the way, for a small fee. Overall would recommend and definitely will return!

Really 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because it was pretty good. I met some friends here for lunch and had the tavern burger. It's a good burger, but smaller than expected. It was very well put together with a decently thick patty, but I would have much preferred a larger diameter than what was served. To put it in fast food terms, this burger has more of a Whopper Jr. footprint instead of that of a full-sized Whopper. There were plenty of fries, so no problem there. Ambiance was nice, as well a service. I don't live in the Clarendon area, but if I were to meet someone again for lunch, the Liberty Tavern would still make my list, but I'd be just as good looking for something different. Not bad, but with so many other options in this area, it doesn't stand out.

I live close by the Liberty Tavern yet I've never been. I always notice people sitting outside enjoying the food so I'm not sure why it took so long for me to try. I came for happy hour with a few friends as a party of 5. I had the Dude 10 inch pizza and then snacked on appetizers with my friends. These included the fried calamari, Brussels sprouts, and French fries. I greatly enjoyed my meal! Our server was super nice as we all decided on drinks and food. He came around multiple times to ask if everything was going okay. I sat outside so I can't give any remarks about decoration. But it seems nice on the inside as well. I'll definitely be back!

My experience at the Liberty Tavern was nice. I had the field green salad and french fries. Let's start with my faveeeee .. I love me some French fries and these did not disappoint! They were crunchy and seasoned to perfection! The chipotle sauce they served with them I was not a fan of but the ketchup was ! The salad was different .. I had the grains and greens and there wasn't that many chickpeas in the salad and the labneh added a different taste, like the labneh wasn't bad but it wasn't great either .. ‍, could be my tastebuds haha. The star of my meal was the fries and I would go back again just for the fries alone lol. Our server was kind and attentive. She kept our drinks filled and our table was cleared fast too as we sat after eating and chatted. Also - sidenote, I ended up in the chair that Barack Obama sat in when he visited!

One of our favorite neighborhood spots! We bring so many of our visitors here because it's always consistent and the prices are great too. I love the versatility of the space, it's fun to sit outside when it's nice out, the downstairs has more of a pub feel, and the upstairs is more of a fine dining experience. The pizza is amazing, as well as the steak and frites.

It's a little loud on the inside, but I enjoy the patio seating, which has a couple of heaters for the cold months. The food and drinks are both excellent, and the prices are not horrible. Service is really good too. The focaccia was particularly good.

Liberty Tavern is my favorite place in the Clarendon area. I love going here with my friends for dinner and unlimited brunch. All of their food is delicious, I've never had a bad thing! The waitstaff and bartenders are super helpful and attentive. The Caesar salad is one of the best I've had. The vibe there is great too, draws me in at least once a month!

Dude Pizza, $10 during happy hour and DELICIOUS!
Ashley C.

I ate here for happy hour this past Sunday and it was a fantastic experience. I got the pesto chicken sandwich with fries, and two Dude pizzas because they were that good. Service was attentive and quick. The food was incredible, especially the fries as mentioned in several other reviews. The Dude pizza was so good that I had to get a second one to go. Prices were good for the serving size. There's indoor and outdoor dining. The indoor dining had some football games on, so the people at the bar were a little loud, but it was still a great experience. It's near Washington St. , so if you sit outside it could be a little loud, but not too bad. Overall I would love to come here again and try out more things on their menu. I would highly recommend it!

I did a takeout order from Liberty Tavern on a Sunday night, and the place was pretty crowded but not overwhelming. I grabbed a seat at the bar without a problem, which was a nice surprise given the crowd. Lamb burger// cooked medium, and it was delicious super flavorful and juicy. The harissa sauce it came with packed a punch, so just a heads-up for anyone sensitive to heat (I personally liked the kick). Definitely a great pick if you're in the mood for something a little different than your usual burger. The fries that came with it were also solid. Nicely seasoned overall, though I did end up adding a bit of salt when I got home. Still, they had good texture and flavor beyond just salt, herby and crispy in all the right ways. Rainbow carrots// they were fine, but nothing I'd rush to order again. They're listed as coming with honey, but I didn't really catch the sweetness, and they definitely needed a sprinkle of salt to bring out the flavor. Not bad, just a little underwhelming. Overall, great burger, solid fries, and a lively-but-not-chaotic vibe.

The food was delicious. Got the artichokes and focaccia as well as the fried chicken salad which was delicious. Service was very nice and frequent and the ambiance was great. Perfect cozy girls night dinner. The artichokes were small but delicious.

We had a reservation for Easter brunch and were seated right away on the patio, even though we were early. Our drink orders were taken promptly and we placed an initial food order as we opted for the unlimited Easter brunch. Our initial food order took a very long time to be served, such that they offered us a few extra minutes at our table to make up for it. We appreciated that especially since we'd consumed about 1.5 cocktails each before any food made it to our table. For the most part, the food was delicious. The only thing that was disappointing was the pizza - the sauce didn't have much flavor and the crust was chewy. Otherwise we really enjoyed ourselves. I think the key to brunch is to order much as you think you want at the beginning.

We went into this place because the festival food SUCK! Liberty's food was a delicious surprise, and the all you can eat menu was tapas style, which meant we got to try a lot of different dishes. Starting off with the chicken biscuit sandwich which was crispy, juicy, with a hint of sweet that balanced so well with the salty, flaky, buttry biscuit. The steak was tender and packed with flavors but the show stopper was the shrimps and grits! I still don't know how they were able to get so much flavors into such a tiny dish.

Food: not recommended Service: great…read moreAmbiance: great for after work drinks (margaritas were excellent) on a nice day. Proceed straight upstairs to the rooftop bar and patio. Lots of standing room, limited seating, but the patrons are young, beautiful, and mostly college students from nearby schools. Not my crowd, but met one of my friends here after work in Arlington around 6:30 since the weather was perfect yesterday. We decided to go to my favorite restaurant for a more elevated experience and live music. One day, I'll come back to watch people ride the bull downstairs, which I imagine that to be hilarious and entertaining. The bartender told me the place doesn't come alive until about 9pm, so that's when it's crowded and probably off the chain.

I went for the first time back in October and I had a good time. The drinks were competitively price for Arlington proportions but the food AND cocktail menu are just painfully limited. If you're ordering just standard bar drinks like a domestic draft beer or a shot of tequila you're fine, but a grilled cheese sandwich on the menu? Seriously? The biggest attraction of this bar is the mechanical bull. But the caveat is that you need to get a ticket to ride it which costs $5. Not terrible pricing but considering PBR at Power Plant Live in Baltimore has a mechanical bull (and more space but will get to that in a bit) it feels like a slap in the face. But again it's $5 and I'm going to presume that money goes towards maintenance of the mechanical bull ride anyway. Also depending on what day and time you go be prepared to be packed like sardines. There's three rooms one of which is a dedicated dance floor. And the room farthest from the entrance, about 85% of the room is taken up by the mechanical bull. The first time I went there was no room in the mechanical bull room because they blocked off 5% of it for some group party reservation. We went up to the rooftop which was a bit more spacious but naturally if it's cold outside or raining you're obviously not going up there. Overall, BOE has potential but a limited food menu, and even more limited cocktail menu, and small indoor space makes this an easy bar to skip when there's a line out the door.

Ordering was almost seamless. We got there at 1 o'clock, middle of the day on 4/18, plenty of empty tables. We went up to the bartender to take our order, and then gave them our table number and they delivered it. The QR code on the table only shows you the menu. It is not used for ordering, which was odd these days. Chill and super awesome bartender with the mother of all hickeys. Good pours. No Skrewball :-( I had the special, two hot dogs with tater tots. When it said double, I wasn't sure if that meant double the tater tots, but that meant actually two hot dogs. Really good. I also had the other special, the two pancakes. I meant to get the sausage, but they gave me the bacon instead. It was great. Well worth it. I thought that was the better value of the meals. They got a lot of board and card games. Very laid-back atmosphere, 90s and early 2000s pop on the music, comfortable seating, and good food. The prices were reasonable. This is one area that I think we are just going to have to deal with for quite some time. The give-and-take of prices,. Smothered tater tots, pancakes, two hotdogs with some tater tots, and three drinks came out to ~$55. NOT. BAD. Was it worth it? If this had been just a normal restaurant, I would've said no. It would've been more worth it if it had been about $40. But... nobody made us pay to use the board games, or the card games, and we sat there for three hours and had a really good time. So based on that, the fact they provide a venue for playing these games and hanging out for a few hours makes it all worth it. Really strange thing was that there was this balding guy with a beard that randomly showed up as a waiter. We had been dealing with a bartender, so this guy, kind of rude came on to us and we weren't sure what to do with him. He kind of blocked me from paying the bartender. Rude. Not a hangout spot every day, but certainly once a week, maybe once a month or more, definitely a place to meet up if you got a group. I was really surprised by the diversity of the people that were there. A lot of chess players, a whole table of middle-aged women, lots of different people playing games. I would give them five stars, but not quite perfect. The rude guy at the end was so odd. Otherwise, great location, great parking, the food was good, good value, and fun.

At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.
