Ugh! I really wanted to love my experience here, but unfortunately, it just didn't live up to my expectations. My sister and I visited for her birthday dinner and were excited to try the bottomless dinner experience. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive, and she made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. Unfortunately, most of the dishes we ordered just didn't hit the mark. Some were overpowering, others lacked flavor, and a few came out soggy. My favorites of the night were the Tuna Crudo and Chicken Tikka Masala. I also made sure to let our server know about my peanut and tree nut allergy. She was very understanding and specifically told us that she would communicate with the kitchen to have the nuts removed from the hummus. Unfortunately, the hummus still came out with nuts on it. Thankfully, I caught it before eating it, but this is definitely an area where better communication between the kitchen and front-of-house staff is needed. Overall, I left feeling pretty underwhelmed by the experience. I think I'd still choose their brunch over their dinner offerings any day. I like this place we'll have to come back in a smaller group setting. It's my first time here and it was for a birthday party so it's a larger group of 13 people. It was the weekend brunch situation, which is very cost-effective. All you can eat Brunch with the one alcoholic beverage included came out to be about $40. Which is very good! Wonderful brunch spot off l-395 in the heart of Shirlington. In terms of ambiance, they do a wonderful job in incorporating local artistry into their design and I happen to notice an individual working on her painting while I was there. Staff are friendly and very welcoming to everyone, I had limited knowledge of their menu and they were eager to recommend their favorites to explore. It is small plates or tapas style so I would recommend their bottomless brunch option to keep things wallet friendly plus try their variety of offerings. Palette 22 had been on our list for the longest time, and now we're just upset we didn't try it sooner! We went on a Saturday night and made a reservation, which I'd definitely recommend. The space is so unique and artsy. The walls are covered with beautiful artwork (some of which you can actually purchase), and even the menus are works of art. It made the whole experience feel fun and creative. The staff was wonderful, especially our server Noah, who was incredibly attentive and made the experience even better. We did the bottomless dinner, and the value is honestly unbeatable. We tried the grilled gem lettuce, marinated cucumbers, street corn, hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns, P22 cheeseburger sliders, spicy shrimp & pancetta pizza, funghi pizza, dan dan noodles, rigatoni norcina, and the sesame steak skewers. Everything was delicious, but the standouts were the dan dan noodles (rich, savory, and packed with flavor), the funghi pizza (crispy with earthy mushrooms and perfectly melted cheese), and the sesame steak skewers (tender, juicy, and coated in a flavorful sesame glaze). The hoisin-glazed pork belly bao buns were soft, fluffy, and packed with melt-in-your-mouth pork, while the rigatoni norcina was creamy, comforting, and perfectly cooked. The grilled gem lettuce was also a fresh, flavorful way to start the meal. For drinks, the white sangria and pomegranate ginger mocktail were both refreshing and delicious. Dessert didn't disappoint either, the flourless chocolate cake (with candied pecans instead of hazelnuts) was rich without feeling too heavy, and the churros were light, crispy, and perfect with the caramel and chocolate dipping sauces. Late to the party as I knew of Palette 22 for a long time but never dined. I went on a weekday for happy hour with a pretty decent appetite. The focus of this restaurant is on food and art. I saw a man painting when I walked in here and it was very detailed. It is a lively scene in here. Palette is a nice play on words for the art palette and palate for taste. They serve tapas (small plates) for a reasonable price. There is an all you can eat option in which your entire table has to order, or you can order a la carte. I ordered primarily off the happy hour menu which included the chicken slider, shrimp tacos, jerk chicken skewer, garlic wings and for dessert, I got churros. Most of the food here were extremely salty and did not agree with my palate. The shrimp tacos were the best thing I ate as the veggies gave the taco a refreshing taste. With the block party outside, Palette 22 was one of the many restaurants inundated with people on Cinco de Mayo evening. I was fortunate to find an empty spot at the packed bar. I couldn't get a real feel for the restaurant because of the crowds of people, but I did enjoy the artwork hanging in the bar area. There were plenty of servers yet we waited for EVERYTHING! I asked for plastic ware when we first sat down. We were the second patrons in the restaurant. I ordered a waffle and returned to the table and still no plasticware. I had to ask again. We ordered scrambled eggs that took a while to make. I've been here a few times for brunch, but this was my first time coming for lunch. I absolutely love the concept of a bottomless meal & I wish more restaurants did this. It's a great way to try everything on the menu so you can figure out your favorites. Here's a list of everything I tried. Seared scallops - These were cooked & seared perfectly. The sauces were a little overwhelming so for the second round I ordered them on the side so I could dip the scallops. Crispy brussels sprouts - Brussels sprouts are one of my favorite veggies. What makes these so good is the soy-chili honey and the sesame-almond granola. It's giving salty and sweet with a little crunch, which brings so much flavor and some texture to the dish. Marinated cucumbers - I enjoy cucumbers, but I wasn't expecting much from this dish. I was pleasantly surprised. It's like a little cucumber salad. The shoyu, tahini miso, and lime served as a light dressing. Very refreshing. Chicken curry empanadas - This dish was just ok for me. I think I was expecting more curry flavor. Pork & shrimp lumpia - I was introduced to lumpia in middle school and I've been eating it ever since. This was some solid lumpia and I'm glad that they added shrimp. Typically, you have to pick one or the other, at least that's been my experience. Spicy shrimp and pancetta brick oven pizza - This pizza alone was worth the trip. I could eat the crust drizzled in garlic butter by itself, but they didn't stop there. They topped the dough with meat, cheese, chilis, and a scallion pesto. Perfection. Pork belly bao buns - You can't go wrong with hoisin glazed pork belly wrapped in pillowy soft goodness. Butter chicken tikki masala - So much flavor in this little bowl. It's butter chicken, carmelized onions, roasted corn, & tikki masala sauce with some basmati rice hidden underneath. It was love at first bite. I would easily eat a full sized version of this dish. Chili shrimp tacos - I was getting full at this point, so I only had a few bites. Each mini taco has 2 plump shrimp with kung pao sauce on a bed of slaw topped with peanuts, radishes, & cilantro. A simple but yummy dish. Mocha parfait - I'm not a coffee drinker but I love a coffee dessert. This layered dessert had chocolate fudge cake, espresso mousse, chocolate ganache, & chantilly cream. It tastes as good as it sounds. In my opinion, chocolate & coffee is a winning combination. Lemon vanilla tres leches cake - Adding fresh berries & a hint of lemon was a nice twist on one of my favorite desserts. In the past, I've only had this dessert plain. The fresh fruit added some texture to the softness of the cake. I enjoyed both desserts but this was my favorite of the two. Well, that concludes another delicious Palette 22 visit. This was probably my fourth visit to Palette 22. The first time I came, I really enjoyed it, but on subsequent visits I felt the quality had declined, which is why I stayed away for a while. I decided to give it another shot after they brought back their bottomless dinner and introduced a few new menu items. We opted for the bottomless option and ended up trying almost everything on the menu. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out enough for me to order a second time. The biggest surprise was the butter chicken, which had corn mixed into it for some reason. The street corn was also disappointing, lacking the flavor I was expecting. The lumpia and shrimp tacos were decent but fairly forgettable. The dishes I enjoyed the most were the Cubano sliders and the steak skewers, but my favorite plate of the night was actually the chilled udon noodles. They were refreshing, well-balanced, and one of the few dishes I'd happily order again. One thing Palette 22 continues to do well is the atmosphere. The restaurant has a fun, artsy vibe with colorful murals, paintings, and graffiti covering the walls, making it an enjoyable place to spend an evening. The service was also efficient. We were allowed to order two small plates per person at a time, and each round arrived quickly, so there was very little waiting between orders. Overall, I think Palette 22 is worth trying at least once, especially if you go for the bottomless dinner/brunch. The value is much better than ordering the same dishes à la carte. The price for the brunch was very reasonable. What I like is that you can order everything from the menu but it's a sample size so you are able to have a taste of everything.
