She told us to wait until our reservation time to be seated (it WAS our reservation time). Hostess accused us of yelling at her when she was the one yelling at us! She asked if we wanted to speak to the manager, which we did and the manager finally sat us down. The server was phenomenal and attentive to our needs, however. She served my food first and service was quick. Manager also gave us free appetizers. Although, appetizers on the house will not substitute how poorly we were treated by the hostess. First timing visiting Ruthie's All Day! We were meeting another couple and planned to dine outside on the patio but the rain had other plans. The Ruthie's team was very accommodating and called us to rebook an inside table for 45 mins after our originally scheduled reservation. However, upon arrival our table wasn't ready. The staff offered us drinks while we waited, which we appreciated in the moment, but we were surprised to see the four coffees we ordered added to our bill. It gave the impression they were being offered as a courtesy, so that was a bit disappointing. We started with the cornbread skillet, which had great reviews online, but unfortunately ours came out dry and didn't quite live up to the hype. The deviled eggs, on the other hand, were really good and a great start to the meal. For entrees, the apple pie pancakes were the clear winner - absolutely delicious and topped with a generous scoop of fresh whipped cream. The fried chicken biscuit was also fantastic and something we'd order again. The brisket hash, which our waiter highly recommended, was good but ended up being our least favorite entree. Seated very quickly with no reservation. Waiter was friendly and helpful since it was our first time dining there. We made a quick stop at Ruthie's All-Day diner just west of Arlington National Cemetery early afternoon on a Saturday. There's brightly window-lit indoor seating for about 45, and patio seating for about 40 more, all at tables for 2, 4, or 6, with the larger tables combinable for larger groups. The staff was welcoming and efficient. We got there a little before brunch officially ended at 3pm, and just the same, they took our grab-and-go order from the weekend post-3pm "Mid-Day Menu". This one pains me to write because I had really been looking forward to trying Ruthie's All-Day. I'm hoping our experience was just a one-off. The cocktails were just okay. Nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The meal started off strong with the sharables. The cornbread was good and the apple doughnuts were really good! My daughter ordered the apple pancakes. She felt there were a little too many apples, but said the pancakes themselves were fluffy and cooked just right . She also had a side of hashbrowns she really enjoyed these. My husband had the Big Plate and said the bacon and potatoes were both extremely tasty I ordered the steak frites and unfortunately it was the most disappointing part of the meal. The steak had absolutely no seasoning and very little flavor. The fries weren't hot and seemed a bit overcooked, and the chimichurri sauce was extremely underwhelming and also lacked flavor. That said, I did really enjoy the atmosphere. We sat inside but the windows were opened creating a flow from the inside dining area to the outside space. I checked out this restaurant for the first time the other day with friends and loved it! We made a reservation and were seated quickly. The inside is quaint and nicely decorated. I've dined in before and wasn't a fan of their model where you pick up your own food from the counter and collect your own silverware and pour your own water from the silverware and water stand at the front of the restaurant. This might be how they operate on weekday breakfast, but I've never experienced that before; not even from the simplest of diners. Also, you seat yourself in the dining room during weekday breakfast. The interior is comfortable and bright, with a simple, rustic all-American dining feel which matches the menu. The customer service was friendly. As a longtime fan, I cannot believe it has taken me this long to write a review for Ruthie's All Day! Over the years I have stopped in countless times because this place is one of my favorite "diners" in Northern Virginia. First things first, make a reservation. You might get lucky as a walk in, but weekends are always busy, and there is a good reason for that. I have visited once for dinner, but breakfast and brunch are where this place truly shines. I always start with the skillet cornbread, hushpuppies, and a hot cup of coffee. It sets the tone for an amazing meal, and those starters are absolutely worth it. Do not skip them. As for entrees, the RAD burger is a standout brunch favorite, but I have also tried most of the big plates (minus the veggie bennie) and have never had a single bad dish. Everything tastes fresh and comforting, but more often than not I go for a "big plate" to enjoy a mix of my favorite breakfast items. You really cannot go wrong. A few other things to know: * The parking lot is a little tight, and the street parking can fill up, so you might have a short walk to the restaurant, but it is not bad at all. * There is a breakfast counter that is perfect if you are dining solo. * They serve cocktails, so whether you are craving an espresso or a mimosa, they have you covered. * The staff are always friendly and helpful, and they are great if you want recommendations. This is truly one of my favorite breakfast and brunch locations. During the week they are open super early and on the weekends they have the best food. While I do think it's best to get a reservation, don't fret because the staff goes above and beyond to get you seated quickly. A fantastic southern restaurant! I recently went to Ruthie's all-day for a friend's birthday and had a great experience. Despite being a party of eight, we were able to get a reservation and seated almost right when we came. The ambiance is good, although at times it got hard to have a conversation. The brisket was a bit fatty and salty, but otherwise outstanding-perfectly cooked, tons of flavor and juice, topped off with a tasty BBQ sauce. The pickles and onions were crunchy and flavorful and paired well with the brisket. The milk rolls were light, fluffy, and airy, and nicely baked. The biscuits and mac and cheese were both disappointing. The biscuits were a bit too hard on top and not soft enough in the middle. The mac and cheese had a nice crust on top, but little flavor or texture beyond that. The branzino was moist, spicy, and bursting with great taste, and the succotash and brussels were both fantastic sides. Our group shared the warm cookie with ice cream for dessert, and it was delicious-warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies and rich ice cream. I get the hype - its real... they noticed we requested a booth and gave us the option to wait for it, OR take a table... I have been here multiple times, and this is one of my go-to places when family or friends from out of town come to visit. What you see pictured is a shared portion of Apple Pie Pancakes and Fried Chicken Cobb Salad. I'm not sure if the salad is truly a half portion but if you have made it this far that is the pro tip...To get the salad and ask them to split it if you are sharing (wink, wink). The pancakes are decent, and I say that only because I'm a butter & oil crispy edge type of guy and although the compote is DELICIOUS you are going to need extra of it because I found the pancakes to be on the dry side. Again, once you add more of the compote, you're good. The Cobb Salad was amazing, the green beans in it threw me off a bit but it worked all together. Service has always been good here I never have any real complaints. The hostess team on the other hand can be a little hit or miss. My two cents' is don't be on the phone out in the open as a host its off putting.
