The service was decent and the restaurant had a cool vibe, but the food was awful. We ordered branzino and salmon, paid $54 for a branzino that was completely flavorless sitting on top of a brown sweet sauce that totally ruined the fish and the salmon needed seasoning! I also ordered a Coke and was never told that refills were not free. When I got the check, I realized I had been charged $5 for each Coke refill. What upset me most was not the money, it was the principle. A simple heads-up from the server would have avoided the frustration. Despite everything, I still left a 20% tip because I believe in tipping for service. Unfortunately, I will never return.

This is a new place in Crystal city with a great vibe. It's in a fun spot with open windows and decorated beautifully. We sat at the bar for happy hour and were promptly served. It did take a minute to get the check though this can be attributed to understaffing. The pasta I had was great. It was well flavored and they even gave me some red pepper flakes to go with it. My friend also liked her very unique poke bowl. Overall, if I was in the area, I would come back again.

Great experience overall. We decided to do the all-you-can-dream deal, which was worth it. This allowed us to try many different dishes. We were fortunate enough to be able to walk there because parking can be a challenge. You might luck out with street parking, or you can use the paid parking garage nearby. The setting is nice, but still comfortable casual. Service was good, although at times the server lost track that we had dishes on order, but he was trying. Many of the dishes we tried were the tropical salad (fairly good), fried chicken sandwich (good), spicy Saigon beef sandwich (good), Nashville brisket sandwich (very good), sweet and smoky potatoes (fair), salmon toast, pulled pork patacon, (very good), loaded fries (probably on the disappointing side), chicken and waffles (very good), steak frites (fair), garlic shrimp (very good), chicken gyro (decent), shakshuka and queso fundido (very good), guava cheesecake waffle (good), churro (decent), and profiterol (very good). Again, overall good, with most dishes being fairly good but a few were not keepers.

Surreal hosted a Women's History Month networking breakfast with National Landing. It was a beautiful and elegant space to gather and meet so many amazing people. The breakfast buffet featured a yogurt, fruit, and toppings bar; a bakery cabinet full of yummy muffins and croissants; and juices and coffee. After chatting with the attendees around me and grabbing more food, we heard from a panel of speakers. Overall, it was a wonderful event hosted by the restaurant.

My friend and I came here for a quick brunch after a crazy morning in DC since this was so close to the metro station and were blown away by the beautiful ambiance, great service, and delicious food. I got a tomato ricotta pastry which was unique and tasty (I could have had 2 more) with a side salad and my friend had the breakfast plate which she enjoyed. The jam they gave was absolutely delicious (I think it was like a raspberry jam that they make in-house) and my server was kind enough to give us a few extra cups of it to take home. We weren't that starving but I want to come back to do their all you can eat option, that menu had a lot more options (like shakshsuka, avocado toast, etc) for just $35 pp. I will definitely be back for that!

I had high hopes for Surreal in Crystal City, but unfortunately the experience fell short. From the moment we arrived, it was very apparent that the staff wanted to close early. We were called prior that if we didn't show up for our reservation on time, they would close, and once we were there, we felt rushed the entire meal so they could go home. It created a very uncomfortable atmosphere and really took away from the experience. The food was disappointing. The spaghetti sauce lacked flavor, and the meatballs were honestly horribly cooked; dry, completely charred, and unpleasant. The menu overall felt strange and unfocused. That said, the interior is really cute and has a fun vibe. It might be an okay spot if you're just stopping in for a cocktail, but I wouldn't recommend it for dinner based on our experience.

Wow! Absolutely amazing brunch at Surreal. We'll definitely be back to try their dinner menu! The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous. The staff were all so friendly and attentive. It was overall an amazing dining experience. The food was delicious! The bread basket truly was a feast. It had the best croissant I've ever had - incredibly flakey and buttery. The potatoes that came with the eggs any way were delicious and had perfectly cooked onions adding great flavor. The shakshuka was bursting with flavor, though I wish there were more & bigger pieces of chorizo. The portions were great, but I made sure to leave room for a pain au chocolat to go!

Went for dinner on a Saturday evening. This restaurant is in Crystal City - so weekends are generally not busy. The inside of the restaurant is well curated, a lot of live plants and bright colors. The menu and vibe is a mix of Alice in Wonderland and international vibes. Food was decent but the drink menu and bar tenders were the stars. This bar is well equipped to make a variety of drinks. Food is a mix of a lot of different types of genres. Food is cooked well and menu is small-ish. I had the ragu, not the worst and not the best. The fried rice good, charcuterie plate was OK, not a lot of color or variety on the board. I will go back for happy hour on a weekday.

Came here on a Thursday evening and it was not crowded was able to get a seat right away. The menu was well-rounded and had some interesting twist to it. The waiter explained to us that the dishes had a Mexican interpretation. The inside of the restaurant made you feel like you walked into an outdoor space which was appreciated in the humid weather. The dishes presented well, and the waiter was friendly. Was also able to get a pizza to go, and even after a little bit, it was great tasting.

Breaks my heart to write a one star.... to be fair, this wasn't my choice for a dinner spot, it was chosen by a work colleague. but What a MISS. I don't know if they had an off day or were on purposely trying to make everything bad. We walk in for a group dinner of 8 and are given a "limited menu" with only a few items because our party is "too large", which is fine by me, but the other people in my party were not enthralled by the limited menu options. After much insistence, we were given the full menu. Not a great first impression. Things don't get better from there. The menu aims for "elevated" dishes with fine dining touches, and attempts a variety of items from different cultures. Key word - attempts. The menu is definitely priced VERY high - but it drastically fails on quality to live up to it. Appetizers - Oysters (a dozen for $39) - SUPER gritty. Not good. TBD on if I get food poisoning. Pillow Tuna Poke ($23) - the "pillow" on top was a fun twist and the seaweed salad was good, but the tuna poke quality was probably the worst I've had (tough, stringy, not fresh, very fishy). Again, TBD on if I get food poisoning. French Onion Soup ($16) - so weird, the onions are NOT caramelized (they are translucent white), and the whole thing had a weird vinegar flavor. Main Courses - I was hoping the main courses would save the night, as I asked our waitress what her favorite was and ordered that one, the Causa Frita ($29) - this was so incredibly salty, I almost had to force it down. Unfortunately, I was hungry. I had a few bites of the steak and it was probably the chewiest steak I have ever tried. The Mac and Cheese ($8) was also super weird, it was sweet and burnt at the same time. We were really sad that we wasted calories and dollars here :( I suppose the only plus was our waitress was a sweetheart. And the drinks were not bad. The interior was cool and hip too. So I suppose, one star for that. Do not recommend.

Let's start with service: Although the server promptly handed me a menu, she disappeared for the next 22 mins. She walked past my table 4 times, but never came to check on me. When I initially sat down, the table next to me ordered salads & beers. They were nearly done with their food before I was able to place an order. Presentation: The menu is very straightforward, but there are definitely some liberties taken with the descriptions of the food. I opted to order the pork belly tacos, and because I love them, I also ordered a side of hush puppies. I don't eat a lot, so I figured I'd have leftovers to take up to my room. Food: Imagine my surprise when I was presented with the sorriest 4 pork belly tacos I've ever seen. Each was maybe a bite and a half. My Apple Watch was almost bigger. They came with a green chile sauce & pico de gallo. Both bowls of sauce were twice the size of the tacos. Speaking of, the tacos were overstuffed with cabbage & onions, & maybe a hint of pork. I was very glad I ordered the hush puppies. Until I had a look at them. I received 4 of the most overcooked, flavorless hush puppies I've ever eaten. And inside they had crab, I did not receive the sauce. I did not finish them. Along with a Heineken, I spent $50. I want my money back.
