Hmmm... Ocean Shack left me a little perplexed ? Don't know if I expected something more or if I was just disappointed at the overall experience. The Good: The fries and sauce are absolutely delicious. The 10pc wings were fried ( crisp) to perfection and came out hot !! The Not So Good: My oysters came out warm ? And it actually had me shook, because my first thought was where are they storing them ( seriously ) and if you're an oyster lover like me, you understand warm oysters just won't suffice ( ever ) On that note... I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit the establishment again. I stopped by Ocean Shack for Football Sunday and was seriously impressed, especially with their all-you-can-eat seafood boil special. For $57.99, you get rounds of seafood boils plus three appetizers each round, and the food really does keep coming. Everything is customizable, which I loved -- extra garlic, more spice, sauce on the side, they've got you covered. The seafood boil was flavorful and coated in fresh garlic, and the Mix-All flavor (Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper, and Old Bay combined) was my favorite -- highly recommend getting a side of sauce for dipping. My favorite appetizers were the gumbo, crab balls, and lemon pepper wings. The wings were crispy and well-seasoned, and the gumbo was comforting and full of flavor. I came here for the all you can eat seafood boil. It was $57.99 per person. Each round comes with 3 appetizers and 3 seafood selections. My husband and I were only able to eat 2 rounds of seafood and 1 round of appetizers. I enjoyed the seafood boil and would come back for it. The kids (9,11,14) loved cracking the crawfish open and just had a blast getting a little dirty. Adults also got Micheladas that were near perfect. Yes, it was expensive, but you only live once, and the food is really really good. We ended up not being able to finish everything, but they'll let you take the leftover fried apps home if you wish. There were a decent amount of people in the small space and pretty lively considering it was a weeknight. Wasn't greeted immediately and to wait a few minutes but was eventually led to a clean table. My spouse got a seafood boil, lobster roll, and I got a shrimp plate and some loaded crab fries. The service was spotty, a lot of the servers were huddled around the bar chatting and we had to flag them multiple times. Food was just ok. The shrimp plate I got wasn't anything to write about, and the fries were good but it was just standard cheese sauce with a bit of toppings sprinkled in. Their lobster roll is very very tiny, but the server did warn us about that so that was nice of them. If I was in the area and I was hungry, I might come back because the prices are decent, but overall the food nor the service were that great the night we came. read more

We've definitely been missing out. Marcquis was our server, and he was everything you'd want in a server. My first experience here was bad. I ordered the ayce seafood and it just took forever to get it. The crabs tasted old, so it was hard to get the meat inside of it. Our server was barely present to get us water refills, or anything. The trivia game was fun, but it was going too fast that it was hard to just enjoy the basic food. It's really hard to find a place in Northern Virginia that specializes in well seasoned fried seafood. I was hoping that Ocean Shack would be it but unfortunately it was not. We stopped in to get takeout and ordered their fried shrimp and fried oyster platters with french fries and a side of his puppies. Granted, we ate the food at home which might've impacted the experience but it was just fine - not bad and not great. I would've appreciated some tartar sauce and more seasoning on the shrimp as well as a crispier French fry. The drinks, especially the individual margaritas packed a nice punch and were yummy! There was truly only 1 server during lunch when we were there but the bartender jumped in and did double duty as a server to ensure all customers were taken care of and they deserve all the kudos in the world bc they took care of everyone w a smile. I know I am probably misspelling the bartender's name, but I want to give her a shoutout bc she was truly amazing ... so THANK YOU Aiiree (I hope it's not misspelled that bad lol). In one review someone had an issue bc glass plates weren't used for the AYCE and Seafood Boils yet in my opinion it makes perfect sense bc most seafood boils and crabs are served right on the table which is topped with brown paper or newspaper so, these plates were actually a step up.
