Always a great time at Astro! Sometimes you have to wait for service but all in all they always pull through. My go to is the smash burger and tots!! Love their crispy tots. Since I don't eat meat they do offer the smash burger to be subbed with impossible meat. One of my favorite bartenders is Sammy!! Tried this for dinner on friday night before a show at the signature. They do take reservations but we learned it was only for the picnic tables - the booths are first come first serve and you have to go to the bar for service. Bar Food was pretty good. I had their smash burger with fries at the evening happy hour price. You order with a QR code and they bring it to you, so there's not much interaction in terms of service. I didn't know Shirlington had an Astro and it was such a pleasant surprise to learn so last night! The vibes were very similar to the location in DC, I wonder if it's expected for every Astro to have a basement area too. The asteroid fried chicken sandwich was excellent as expected and the tots were a perfect pairing. The egg royale was good -- soft and savory biscuit breakfast sandwich; -the egg was cooked well, bacon wasn't crispy enough but edible, the biscuit itself was starting to get soggy but I prefer it soggy to dry. The tater tots weren't that great--very standard and no seasoning - on the dry side, so get something to dip with. I tried the rosemary mustard which was good (charged extra). But they were very generous with the portion. I was stuffed. The cold brew was okay, not the most memorable. I liked that it came in a to go container because I definitely couldn't finish it because it was strong. I'd say food is better than what I'd expect for a beer hall, so that's a plus! This is an interesting place but I think best for a younger crowd. The good: The totchos were amazing. Rarely do you get perfectly cooked tater tots. Here they were and loaded up with cheese sauce, sour cream etc. ...and the Bavarian pretzels! Chef's kiss. The bad: The bar was incredibly loud. The floor, the walls and the ceiling are all hard surfaced. Nothing absorbs any sound. It was also really hot in this bar. We were even downstairs and still sweating. This review is based on the gaming options and ambience. I didn't have a chance to try any food this time so I will be back for a review for that. I stopped in just as I was walking by because the place looked intriguing. I was interested in throwing some darts so that's the first thing I did. I'm actually pretty good at the game but noticed the bull's-eye was not sticking. Upon closer inspection, I saw that it cannot stick because the board is worn down and missing in the bull's-eye area. Anyway after that game was over, I walked around and saw that the place is pretty cool. There's a downstairs area for adults only that is a bar with a lot of cool, chill areas as well. I talked to the bartender when I was down there who told me after 10 PM things really pick up so that's pretty exciting. All in all seems like a nice place. read more

What a great place for a pint! Plenty of options on tap and with the recommendation from the bartender, I tried two very flavorful beers. Service: The service is well intentioned and appropriately apologetic for their mistakes... Ordered avocado toast, with sunny side up egg, this came out still transparent. Ordered a matcha green tea, it took 15 minutes to arrive. Ordered warm cinnamon roll, it arrived cold, ordered the fried chicken the forgot the order, ordered the grapefruit mimosa kit, they brought orange. Do with this what you will...proceed with caution. Food: Matcha was well blended and very well. Also a perfect temperature. The bacon was good 3 slices for $5. Well the avocado toast arrived with an egg that wasn't translucent it was okay but could have benefited from some everything bagel seasoning or a bit of lemon juice within the guacamole. Cinnamon roll left a lot to be desired and was overpowered by the frosting. Minimal brown sugar and Cinnamon. I have been waiting for the fried chicken for 32 minutes and it still has not arrived so I cannot to attest to that currently. Night time entertainment: we were here after Oktoberfest Saturday evening and the pool tables were great $20 per hour and the darts $5. We would recommend you bring your own darts. Checked out the 1969 Bar under Astro Beer Hall (connected, same owner, same place) on a Friday night and had such a fun time. There's a bar, booths, high-tops and various couches and chairs to sit and eat/drink. There is also pool tables and darts. Stopped in at Astro for happy hour with some friends. The happy hour deals are limited to some of the apps but I was feeling hungry so I ordered the Old Bay All Day, mostly because I was curious what an "Old Bay Doughnut Bun" tasted like. The answer? Pretty damn good. The donut bun was very light, almost airy, and worked really well with the savory flavors of the Old Bay seasoning and sriracha mayo. The fried chicken on the other hand could've done with some more seasoning and flavor. I also deviated from my norm and got the side salad instead of tots or fries and I was pleasantly surprised - it was actually a very good little side salad! We came on a busy night. When you enter, there's a sign that says seat yourself. It took us a minute to find a table, and once we did, we realized there was only one waitress working our area. After 9pm, there is the happy hour for $5 smash burgers or chicken sandwich and it comes with fries or tots. When the waitress came, she told us they were pretty much out of everything. We wanted the smash burgers, but told it was out. It's a bit strange that after 5 mins of doing the happy hour burger that they ran out. Anyways we tried the chicken burgers instead. My reason for 3 stars is because our orders were made incorrectly. We had a party of 5, and we made modifications to the chicken sandwiches, like no sauce or no pickles or no coleslaw. She also asked us if we wanted mild, medium, or hot. I felt like all the chicken sandwiches were made incorrectly because most were spicy. With the sandwiches, we should have had 3 that came with fries and 3 with tots. What we received was 2 tots and 4 fries. I understand that it's a busy night because of the football game, but she didn't come back to refill our drinks. Most likely we will return, because the $5 deal is pretty good. OK so I know this is a beer hall, but their cookies are THE BOMB! I had the dark caramel, s'mores, and PB&J. The texture is like a very very fudgy brownie more so than a cookie. It wasn't easy to pick up any of the cookies, but that didn't detract from the flavortown. They're so rich and decadent and perfect for a fall evening (or any evening you're craving a delicious sugar bomb). The beer selection is decent, though I expected more from a "beer hall" and they ran out of one of the beers when I visited... but it's still a good vibe in there.
