Checked out Bar 86 in Old Town with a friend, last night, and overall enjoyed the experience. The vibe is intimate, and a little mysterious in a good way. It has low lighting, and stylish décor that makes it easy to settle in, and relax. There was no hostess to initially welcome us, in the hallway of the building, so it was a little confusing, at first, figuring out exactly where the bar was located; however, once inside things flowed well. The cocktails were the highlight. One arrived in a mini bathtub topped with bubbles, which was a fun touch and tasted good. The tiki drink was more flavor forward, and not spirit forward, which I appreciated because it was smooth and balanced. You can tell they care about presentation, and quality. Our server was welcoming, and very knowledgeable. He explained the journey the menu is designed to take you on, which made it feel curated, and intentional. We did not try any bites; however, other patrons seemed to enjoy them. It does appear they are still trying to get their footing; however, because of our server I bumped this up to 4 stars. He really helped add to the night. Nice spot to catch up with a friend, and a good place to start, or end the night in Old Town. I would go back to explore more of the menu.

Recently opened, late-night, bar in old town Alexandria The service was good and the staff was very friendly and talkative all throughout the night! The drinks were extremely fun and very thoughtful in terms of their naming conventions and presentation, however we did try about 6 drinks and they were all pretty sweet, so I would be mind full of that. We did try the frites and were a little disappointed by the potatoes & its presentation. Will likely go back to try more drinks though!

The atmosphere was bar appropriate with minimal noise, so I didn't need to raise my voice at all since I was in the tabled area in the back. Would I go back? Yes, absolutely.

At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.

We headed over to the People's Drug, where we found a cozy cafe table outside. We kicked off happy hour with some refreshing cocktails, the Bubble Buck and Gindependence Collin's, both were fantastic and refreshing. Great indoor and outdoor seating Service was a bit slow but the staff were really friendly. I would recommend knowing what you want to eat upfront so that you can put in that order with your drinks. Happy Hour Drinks: Bubble Buck-Excellent balance of liquor, sweetness, and bitterness. Excellent drink Gindependence Collins- Perfect summer drink, recommended for anyone who doesn't want to drink heavy liquor and those monitoring their sugar intake. Excellent drink Rosie's Negroni- Perfect twist on a Negroni. Excellent drink Needless to say, all of the drinks were perfect. Happy Hour Bites Truffle Fries- this was SO good! Crispy, fresh, and bursting with truffle oil flavor. Crispy chicken wings- I'm not a wet wings lover but this sauce was undeniably delicious and the wings were beautifully prepared. Overall we loved this place and look forward to returning.

Especially in the winter time with the white lights lining King St outside. Tonight, we had an amazing meal prepared by Chef Tony. We started with their fried oysters on top of apple slaw and their potato and leek soup. The soup was piping hot with small hush puppy style croutons inside served in a beautiful bowl. It was delicious too! I don't even like oysters, but I liked these. Next came the Betty's buns and beet salad. The beet salad is such an interesting preparation with ricotta, raw and cooked beets, some herbs, orange segments and pistachios. I really enjoyed the brightness of the dish. And who doesn't love a good warm bun with butter? The entrees were really beautifully plated and delicious too. The catfish was our favorite with a delicious broth, poured table-side. I've never had a bison steak before - but this one was perfectly cooked with cippolini onions, chimichurri and sweet potatoes. The plating on everything was absolutely gorgeous. And for dessert - a spongy apple cider cake and creamy chocolate cremeux. I don't even like apples, but this cake was amazing. It had beautiful accompaniments as well. And the chocolate cremeux was served with beautifully poached pears and cranberries. We loved both. Our waiter kept our water glasses full, knew all the details about the menu and was so pleasant and prompt. Absolutely love it here!!!
