For entrees, we had Toro Usuzukuri Style and Sushi Dinner. The toro was a revelation! Not only it is pretty, the toro was really fresh! The sushi dinner was quite delicious too. This is THE place for sushi!! Yummmm this review is long overdue. The have an amazing selection of rolls, all very unique, fresh and flavorful. Some of my favorites are the yume roll, Mexican roll- this was bomb- so so good, loved the creamy jalapeño sauce, salmon lover roll- the mango on top is so refreshing and tasty, sashimi roll- this is a must and the presentation is beautiful. The attention to detail on the food is superb. Rolls are on the smaller side, and a little pricey for the size but isn't that the case with all sushi? I'm team D.C. through and through and often stay within the D.C. borders to dine, but driving out to Yume Sushi in Arlington near the Falls Church border is worth it. Here's why. 1) Food: The menu can be a little overwhelming due to the range of options, but the servers do an excellent job in helping you navigate it. To feed two hungry adults, we ordered the Garlic Butter Miso Scallops, Sunomono Salad with Tiger Shrimp and a number of sushi- Creamy Scallop Roll, Arekusa Roll, A5 Wagyu Roll, Yume Roll, and the Kamikaze Roll. For dessert, we had the match crepe cake with black sesame ice cream. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor, but the winners were the Garlic Butter Miso Scallops and the Creamy Scallop Roll. We ordered a second serving of the Garlic Butter Miso Scallops. 2) Drinks: They have all types of drinks from sake to beer to wine to cocktails. I ordered their seasonal cocktail with elderflower liqueur and it was refreshing. 3) Service: Impeccable! The entire experience was smooth. Absolutely loved it! I had the other rolls, but the one that stands out the most was the creamy scallop roll! You only get a couple pieces so order two if you're hungry. I need to go back for that. Let me just start by saying how disappointed in myself I am for waiting so long before I tried this spot out, esp considering Im a foodie! I enjoy RW to give me the opportunity to try new spots and partake in dishes that I normally dont eat on a regular. The baby octopus salad was delish and filling! This was my first experience with foie gras and it was so good. It melted in my mouth and the caviar complemented it perfectly! I didnt have a single dish that I was dissatisfied with. Everything was behind my expectations! I grabbed a table next to a window but enjoyed the omakase experience that the owner was giving to some guests at the sushi bar! I hope to be lucky enough to experience that same joy that he exudes while creating his dishes. You could see the happiness in his smile! TLDR: An interesting Japanese fusion restaurant that I won't be back to. We celebrated a special occasion here. It's innovative but very overpriced for what you get. The atmosphere is modern and noisy, which is fun though a bit loud. The sushi was very good, and they appear to even smoke their own salmon for one of the items, which was amazing. But the portion to price ratio is very poor here. Their Winner dish is literally one glorified piece of Sushi for $30. It's appetizer size. Almost everything here is infused with truffle oil. If you absolutely love truffles, this is heaven. But it's too much. Leave some dishes to have truffle flavoring without overwhelming all of the meal. They charge high end restaurant prices but have a tv with sports. It's an incongruous match. People were cheering for a sports event. Either make a lower end sports bar or have a fancy restaurant. They're not the same thing. There was only 1 working bathroom for the entire restaurant. Not really ok. The service was decent. Several broken glasses, but that's not necessarily their fault. All in all, if they lower prices, remove the TV, fix the bathroom situation, don't put truffle oil on almost everything, I would be back. I'm back and the quality is still as I remembered! Got the Chirashi bowl again (this is my go-to order, it seems), and the quality was great while the lavender smoked salmon pieces were uniquely a great addition. The quality is fresh and I'd say worth it's price. The service here was also fabulous and courteous. I think the vibe of the restaurant shifted slightly from formal casual to accessible luxury (lots of 24kt gold, caviar, uni and A5 wagyu on the menu). The menu was also recently updated per our server. Overall a fun date place and would recommend if you're in the mood for sushi. The parking can be a challenge (limited street parking and garage parking is hidden), so I'd allot extra time for that. read more

The spicy toro with uni roll was fantastic. Bursting with flavor. Watermelon daikon wasn't super great. Looked really really nice, but it was incredibly salty and not enough pickling/vinegar flavor. Chirashi bowl was okay -- very generous with the fish portions, and they were very accommodating, as I asked for no tuna. Chef accidentally included one piece of tuna (I asked about it) and they felt bad for the mistake and comped us a nigiri. This place is not what it used to be - service and quality of food has gone down severely, and it shows by how easy it was to get a reservation on a Saturday night (it used to be packed). While our rolls came out quickly, we waited another hour for another two dishes, and another 30 min for the last two dishes. In the meantime, flagging down the server was impossible. Food is still decent but portions are definitely getting smaller, some plates were overly salty and the uni pasta was a small pile of thin noodles sticking together. Hands down the best sushi I have ever had. The servers have always been extremely kind and great with recommendations. The manager there was so sweet and helpful as well. I love being able to see all the sushi being made in front of you. My personal favorite sushi rolls were most definitely the Wagyu roll and the Kamikaze roll. The garlic butter miso scallop was my favorite out of anything. For drinks I kept getting repeats of the apple cinnamon mule drink which was seasonal but absolutely delicious. We came here for a catering tasting as my daughter is considering having Yume cater her wedding. The dishes presented were so good that we came back a couple of days later for dinner. I saw some complaints that most dishes were expensive. While it's true some of their innovative dishes are expensive, they also have reasonably priced dishes. It was nice weather so we decided to sit outside rather then at the sushi counter where you can watch sushi being prepared. I really enjoy Yume Sushi. They offer a variety of unique options, making it fun to try new sushi combinations. I have a few favorites, particularly the A5 wagyu roll (or really any roll or nigiri with wagyu), the miso butter scallops and the tuna tartare. I haven't had a cocktail from them that I didn't like. The space itself is dark and intimate, with murals covering the walls, making it a great spot for a nice date night. The service has generally been very good. We have had Kathy as our server a few times, and she was excellent. On our most recent visit, however, we had male waiters who seemed focused on upselling, which we didn't appreciate. Yume is definitely a sushi spot where you come to celebrate a special occasion. You are going to get an incredibly delicious meal with an outstanding presentation. The staff were wonderful and very helpful in the recommendations they gave us, and all of the items we got were tasty. The restaurant was busy but you're spaced out enough that you don't feel like you're being cramped next to other tables. Some items are larger in portion size than others, which allows for sharing, while some items are more of a one bite and you can't share. In this case, you're paying a lot of money for a one bite, but the bite is very good. I wish some of the items were a little cheaper, but you're paying for the experience of eating at Yume. I recommend you go, but know you are going to be paying for more items than another sushi spot. read more

My husband and I came here for our five year anniversary, and we had the best experience! We sat at the end of the sushi bar (which is what my husband requested) and was able to watch all the magic happen. It was a fun and neat experience to watch the sushi chefs cut their fish and plate their dishes. We got their prix menu, which was $80 per person, and included seasonal carpaccio, uni pasta, the monster trio, the winner, and a dessert of the day. Our favorite was the monster trio, which included the seared foie gras, toro with uni, and seared butter miso scallop with uni. My favorite was the toro among the three, but everything was delicious. The plating was beautiful, the fish were all extremely tender, and the flavors were all delicious and blended so well together. We also ordered two sushi rolls, as we felt we could eat more. The sushi rolls were good, but smaller in portion than I expected. The rolls we got were the peter roll and scallop sunlight roll. Lastly, the dessert was crepe cake that seemed to have raspberry flavors. It was delicious and not too sweet. We also shared the sesame seed ice cream, which was very good as well. Food was delicious, I only wish their portion sizes were bigger. We also shared an old fashioned from the bar, which was also very good. Service was great. Our server was Camila, and she was great to constantly check in on us and explain each dish to us. There were multiple people always refilling our waters. If you've ever had live scallop at NOBU, this is the only comparison I can give. Absolutely fantastic, get it while you can. The uni shooter is spicy and sour in the best delectable way. Extremely disappointed with my dining experience at Yume Sushi tonight. A friend and I ordered the pre fix menu for restaurant week and ended up staying against our will for almost 3 hours. Service: Not entirely sure where the breakdown was, either chef or server- but there was at least 20-30 minutes in between each course even though we finished each course in less than 10 minutes. This occurred even when we asked for the dessert and check- accompanied by a 20 minute wait as I saw our server on his phone near the hostess stand, dessert and check in hand, just chatting it up for over 5 minutes. Food: Overwhelmingly rich. Not sure if I missed the memo that every nigiri/piece of fish came with a cube of foie gras and caviar on top - but it ended up overpowering the actual fish and took away from the sushi experience. I enjoy decadence occasionally, and i believe their specialty dish, the "Winner", was supposed to be over the top, but I don't believe that treatment should apply to literally everything they serve.
