Miso Soup

Stopped by for lunch and it was very good. I ordered the mackerel (saba) nigiri and the pieces were huge! I also got the lunch bento box which came with a salad and soup. I would def come here again. The waiter and owner were extremely nice. They sang happy birthday for this family and it was very sweet. The restaurant itself is fairly small so keep in mind how many people you come with - ideal for 2-4 people.

Decent selection of sushi and other entrees. While we were able to be seated very quickly as walk-in guests, the service was a bit slow. In a great location in downtown Falls Church, however.

Such a cute Japanese restaurant in the city of falls church. Parking and entrance is in the back near northside social. When you walk in, it's like traveling to Japan. It's beautifully decorated, with fans, cats, and traditional attire featured on the wall. The lunch special, comes with so many choices! The pricing is good too! I had the tempura udon, which came with a side salad, and tuna maki. The fish was so fresh and made to order. The broth was hearty and delicious! Descriptions of our order: see picture Top left: Sansai udon (vegetable udon no meat), tuna roll, comes with salad Top right: sushi, and tuna roll, comes miso soup Bottom left: tuna roll, tempura udon, comes with salad Bottom right: Katsu, tuna roll, comes with miso soup Everything was delicious!! The service was quick and they came to check in on us often and remove any dishes. I will definitely like to come back.

LOVE this place. Always great service and the food is amazing. The style inside is also on par with a Japanese sushi bar/restaurant. If you like sushi, it's great. Not a fan of raw fish? They have chicken teriyaki! The servers are always on top of their game with refills and seeing how everything is going. Very friendly too. Price wise, not too bad on the wallet either and I alway walk out feeling full.

This place is small. Be prepared for the tiny accommodations. I was surprised at how good the ramen was because often that can be hit or miss in this area. The service was decent. Would definitely come back again.

Came here twice and will definitely be coming back. Everything I've tried has been delicious. Yes…read moreit slightly on the expensive side but I've haven't tried anything else the compares nearby. Their Sukiyaki and Original Abura Soba has been by go to. I'd recommend getting the chili oil to complete the taste if you are ok with a little spicy. The marinated beef was cooked to perfection in the Sukiyaki. I also tried their seaweed salad which tasted fresh and had the right amount of seasoning. And their Takoyaki was cooked perfectly and had a good amount of octopus inside. Restaurant inside is bit on the small side but they do have bar counter-style seating too. Tables have been on the cleaner side compared to other restaurants of this price range. Parking is easy too, being a large shared parking lot. Service has been good both times I went with attentive staff and they also know when to leave you alone.

If you come to Kajiken expecting a traditional steaming bowl of ramen, recalibrate. This is abura…read moresoba country -- and they do it exceptionally well. For the uninitiated, abura soba is a brothless ramen where the magic happens at the bottom of the bowl. A savory aromatic oil and tare base sit beneath springy, chewy noodles, topped with a silky poached egg and classic ramen accoutrements. The key is to mix thoroughly -- really commit -- until the egg emulsifies with the oil and sauce, coating every strand in glossy, umami-packed richness. The texture is the standout. The noodles have a satisfying chew that holds up against the weight of the oil without becoming heavy. It's indulgent but not cloying. The customization element elevates the experience: a drizzle of chili oil adds warmth and depth, while a splash of vinegar cuts through the richness with bright acidity. Dial it in to your preference and the bowl transforms in real time. If you're a fan of Chinese scallion oil noodles or Korean jajangmyeon, you'll recognize the comfort-food DNA here -- but abura soba feels more refined and layered. The flavor is concentrated, savory, and deeply satisfying without relying on broth. This is the kind of spot that knows exactly what it is and executes with confidence. A refreshing change from the ramen norm and absolutely worth the visit. Bonus points for the casual kid friendly atmosphere and also offering traditional soup ramen and donburi for less adventurous dining companions.

Round up to 4 stars…read more Discovered Kyuramen through an online search, its menu immediately piqued interest with a broad selection of comforting Japanese fare. A recent visit began with the Japanese Fried Oyster and Takoyaki. Both were competently executed--the oysters notably fresh and delicately crisp, the takoyaki properly tender--but the accompanying sauces leaned noticeably sweet, slightly masking the savory depth one might hope for (a more restrained, teriyaki-forward profile would better suit the oysters). The Shoyu Chicken Ramen proved more compelling. Its chicken-based broth, while lighter than traditional pork tonkotsu, delivered a clean yet satisfying umami presence. The chicken itself was expertly prepared--tender, juicy, and well-integrated into the bowl. Overall, a promising addition to the local ramen scene, and one worth revisiting to explore further offerings.

The service here is excellent. We were seated and given menus and water immediately, and the staff was attentive and friendly throughout our meal. They even have a call button at the table which was convenient. The interior is incredibly cute and interactive - they have wooden ornaments you can write on and "surprise bowls" where you can win free drinks or desserts. For the food, the appetizer platter is a great deal for the price and offers a nice variety. The popcorn chicken had a great Sichuan kick that I really enjoyed but wasn't overly spicy. I was really excited for the beef ramen, but it was a massive letdown. The beef itself was super tough and lacked flavor. While the broth was well balanced and clean, there simply wasn't enough of it - even though I asked to skip the corn. It feels like this place focuses a lot of energy on the interior decor, promos, and aesthetics, while the quality of the main entrees hasn't quite caught up. Because the core dish missed the mark, I don't think I'd come back.

If I were to compare them with clothing brands, the top tier restaurants would be akin to Hermès: impeccable, yes, but you're refinancing your apartment just to sit at the counter. Takumi is Ted Baker: genuinely refined, quietly stylish, and doesn't require a second mortgage to appreciate. The fish is flown in fresh daily. There is no cream cheese within a 50-foot radius of this kitchen. No yum yum sauce. No roll named after a questionable life decision. Just pristine fish doing pristine fish things. The menu is tight -- bento boxes, focused apps, nothing that needs a paragraph of explanation. The fried oysters and squid tentacles are mandatory. Non-negotiable. Do not test me on this. Then the subtle flex begins: yuzu, truffle, shiso placed with quiet confidence, mango puree that sounds wrong and tastes right, an Old Bay finish that would make Maryland weep with pride, and a Kalamata olive that has absolutely zero business being this good on a sushi menu -- and yet. This is a kitchen that knows exactly what it's doing and doesn't need your validation. For top tier sushi in Falls Church, go with Takumi if you skew towards traditional, go to Yume if you prefer modern more creative options.

We started off with the gyozas, which were stellar, and the seaweed salad. Will list our full order below but was surprisingly a huge fan of the crazy monkey. The ambiance was friendly and relaxed, a little too bright for our tastes but overall good. Food was the issue. TLDR Mildew/mold in the fridge affecting taste of refrigerated items ie: salads, egg/fish eggs, fried items. They apologized and gave us a discount. We were excited as we dont usually branch out sushi wise and we were disappointed. The water was pretty chlorinated which is fine (most people dont notice it) but there was a subtle unpleasant aftertaste to it. No big deal I didn't come for the water. I came hungry, trying a handful of nigiris to taste the quality of the fish. They were what I expected for the price, midrange and totally acceptable. The salmon was a bit soft but the tuna was uniform (which I appreciate). I disagree with reviews saying the fish was too thin (its AYCE just get more) and that it was "tasteless" because it wasnt. When I got to trying the tobico however, I noticed that same taste amplified, entirely overwhelming the taste of the tobico. I spit it out and moved on, ordering the massago to see if it was just that dish and it wasnt. We tried a fried roll and there was that taste again. The seaweed salad was by far the worst offender. After discussing it, the cause was clear. Heavy mildew buildup (at the least which isnt uncommon) or mold in their fridge (at worst). We are the last people to ask for a manager but it was bad enough to say something about because it put us off the rest of the food. we were hoping we had come near the end of a clean cycle and asked if there was a better time to come but we didn't get a clear answer. We also own a restaurant and understand not everything can be the absolute freshest, when its busy sometimes you miss things, and also understand it might not even be their fault. That strip (of stores) is OLD and it could be a problem with the strips pipes.

I ordered a couple of cocktails off the menu - Lychee Martini was very boozy and didn't have much flavor. The Flor de Cana Pineapple Mojito is interestingly on happy hour, but not on the main cocktail menu. It was okay and not that flavorful. Honestly, I wouldn't mind shelling out $20+ cocktail if it packed a punch with flavor and well-balanced. These cocktails didn't measure up. The Cauliflower Taco was truly bite-size and was the teeny tiniest taco I've ever seen. I wasn't a big fan of the flavor, so I was glad that it was gone within 2 bites. After spending $60+ on 2 drinks and tiny taco, I was ready to go home disappointed. Our server was friendly. Maybe I didn't order the right drinks? I might come back to try another round of drinks, but not sure if I'm willing to dish out another $20+ cocktail.
