Lunch Special!!
Sunshine A.

I was in the area and saw from the distance the Kajiken sign. So glad I stopped in. I frequently visit the one in Rockville so I'm glad I stopped. I was surprised to see the lunch specials. My usual Tonkatsu isn't part for the lunch special, but that's ok. I'm looking forward to trying something different. I love all Ramen so I'm sure it will be great! The service is excellent. There is only one server during lunch but he was attentive so no problem there. The ambiance was quieter with asian hip-hop music in the background. A lot of parties of one eating including myself. Still a great spot if you want some quiet time for lunch

Tebasaki

Got there at 6pm on a weeknight and it was dead - we were the only ones in the restaurant but people eventually started coming in for dinner. They have bar seating in the middle and by the counter with a couple of booth seatings. They have lovely Japanese decor around the restaurant, making it look like an authentic Japanese restaurant. While you do have a choice to order regular ramen with broth, their specialty is dry ramen aka soupless ramen aka Aburasoba. We order the "Tebasaki" as an appetizer. It comes out made to order and it was steaming hot! It was very delicious. It has a white pepper seasoning on the crispy skin. Highly recommend. As for the Aburasoba - not really my favorite type of ramen. I got the Niku Miso. It comes with sauce on the bottom so you can stir it for the ramen to get flavor. After a while, it gets kind of eh. Highly recommend to try it if it's going to be your first time.

First time trying brothless ramen and it was fine. The service was super quick. We came for lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty much empty around 1pm. I got the sukiyaki bowl and it was just really greasy and salty. I didn't really enjoy it but it was heavy on the meat portions which is nice. My friend liked it so maybe it was just the one I ordered? Overall, it was pretty mid and not cheap for ramen so I probably wouldn't come back.

This place was recommended by my sister, so we wanted to try it out. Love the aesthetic, architecture, and the feel of the restaurant. Definitely fit the vibe. Service was great! We went during dinner time and they were very quick and friendly. We ordered the salad bowl, chicken karaage, chashu don, and chicken curry. All was very good! Noodles was firm, curry was delicious. No compliants! Highly recommend this place if you haven't already done so!

Food is good, at a great price, and great service. This chain is known for the Abura soba (no soup ramen) and it was my first time trying this. I enjoyed this style of ramen (7/10) although it was not my favorite. For the rest of the food, I preferred the chicken wings (8/10), karrage was alright (7/10) and squid was alright (7/10). Service was very swift and efficient, I have nothing to say about this! I would say the noodle dish was most expensive, however I lean less likely to order this dish again. Perhaps on another day I'd come back for small bites. They are also right next to a small dessert shop, which is fun!

A bit pricey but high quality food. Service was attentive but could get slow with a packed restaurant. Gyozas are always hot, crispy fresh and juicy. The gyoza dipping sauce is fantastic. Salty, a tad sweet & sour with vinegar. The Sukiyaki Don is a simple dish of sliced marinated beef & onions in a bowl of rice. Tonkotsu ramen is delicious. Thick sticky porky broth full of fresh chewy ramen noodles with 2 slices of sweet and smokey charshu pork, bamboo, soft boiled egg, scallions and 2 sheets of dried seaweed. The fresh ramen noodles make the dish. Can get loud with a full restaurant and music plays in the background. Again, a tad bit expensive for ramen but it is good in germs of quality. Didn't have to ask for water as the server filled it when she saw my glass was empty. That's good service.

Rob B.

Good Ramen and pleasant music. Nice atmosphere and decoration. The wait staff were all very nice, friendly and helpful. The salad appetizer was OK/average. The Tonkatsu Ramen was a bit plain. I added bok choy and corn and it brought the Ramen to $20. Again, it was OK. They lost one star because when it's time to pay, they stand there and wait for you, while you decide what tip to enter and sign. Very close to three stars, but the restaurant is very clean and attractive, so the atmosphere helped.

Kajiken is known for their abura soba, or "brothless ramen", and even if I am craving a soupy ramen option, I know the brothless option will be a better one. A few of us stopped by this past Sunday night, and we were seated immediately at their high-top table without wait. We were in and out within an hour. ABURA SOBA: ROASTED BEEF - 18 I've had this before, and the roast beef seemed different compared to usual. The coloring was a bit off (and the edges were not seared well), and it didn't appear the most appetizing. Flavor wise, the beef was acceptable. Overall, the abura soba was still tasty. The yogurt and chaliapin sauce, combined with the raw egg yolk, made a delicious and creamy combination, and the fried onion bits provided a savory, aromatic flavor. The noodles soaked up the sauce well, and the green onions provided a nice crisp. Overall, Kajiken is reliable, and their food is always pretty good. Our group enjoyed a quick dinner at this location.

So good! Loved the vibes, food, and service. We got the homura and niku miso. The homura was spicy but flavorful. The niku miso also had a nice flavor and the meat was tender. We'll be back!

We came here for lunch on a Sunday in a party of 4 and were seated within 5 minutes. For appetizer, we started with the kaarage (fried popcorn chicken) which came with 2 sauces. I've never had aburasoba before eating here. It's basically a soupless ramen dish with a sauce at the bottom and various toppings. The original bowl was our favorite. The chasu was nicely charred and fatty. The sauce that came with the original was much more flavorful than the roast beef bowl which had a more creamy sauce. The roast beef itself was very tender though. For drinks, I really enjoyed the salted plum sprite. Just FYI, the passionfruit drink comes out in a can and not fresh passionfruit. The ambiance is casual and service was great. I would come back to try the regular soup ramen and other appetizers!

Kajiken is a newer Japanese restaurant in Falls Church that offers a different type of noodle than your typical ramen. They specialize in abura soba which is a brothless noodle (thicker than ramen). I started with the dumplings which had a nice pan fry on the bottom. These were served piping hot and were a great way to start off the meal. I tried the niku miso which comes with roast pork and minced pork. The combination of flavors here was so good! I was surprised that the thick sauce could really tie everything together. I also tried their original which comes with chashu; it was pretty tasty too. I'd like to come back and try their ramen. They have a lot of tasty items on the menu! There are some toppings you can add like chili oil and sesame seeds, too. The shop is not super big, so if you come at a popular time like the weekend, be prepared to wait! There's plenty of parking in the shopping center.

Original

This restaurant serves like a dry ramen style and it was my first time trying this style (and certainly not my last). I ordered the Original with an onsen tamago. You have to mix the dish very well since the sauce is at the bottom of the dish. The sauce was savory and the egg added a nice creaminess to it. Noodles were perfectly cooked as well as the chasu. My friends and I also ordered some appetizers to share. The karaage was good and tender inside but I wish it was cut smaller and crispier. Takoyaki and kaki fry was typical and were pretty good.

Homura
Amala S.

This was my first time trying aburasoba and it won't be my last! This place serves up a delicious bowl of noodles! The ramen noodles themselves are bouncy and has a good chew to them. The thickness of the noodles holds the sauces well. The homura aburasoba was delicious and surprisingly spicy as far as Japanese food goes. The roasted beef bowl was savory and creamy from the yogurt mixed with the egg yolk. I liked that they had extra condiments on the table to jazz up the bowls if you needed it. Overall I was quite happy with the serving and price of the bowl. I am excited to go back and try different dishes!

That warmth carries throughout the entire experience, all the way to the "arigato" as you leave. The ambiance is modern, clean, and inviting--elevated without feeling formal. The drink menu is a standout, especially the mocktails, which are just as thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented as everything else. Service was exceptional. Polly was attentive and warm without ever hovering, and Patty, the owner, made a point to personally introduce the restaurant, which added a really special touch. The food absolutely delivered. The yakitori platter was flavorful and perfectly grilled, and the shrimp tempura roll was fresh, light, and beautifully presented. What really sets SHō apart is how intentional everything feels--from the hospitality to the food to the overall atmosphere. It's the kind of place you look forward to returning to!

The parking lot is pretty small and shared by a couple of other restaurants in the area, but there is a garage parking close by and street parking if you can find some. The wait staff was friendly and kind and sent us to our table and we were attended to pretty quickly. The service was pretty good with our waters topped off and questions answered! Service 4/5! Yakitori platter: The pork belly was pretty salty and a little bit tough, my least favorite of the platter. Seasoning was okay. The problem, I think, that it was over a marinated which made it super salty, it wasn't balanced. I would recommend adding something to balance out the saltines and not marinate it for so long. 2/5 The steak was just okay, it was pretty tough and gristly, not my favorite either, the seasoning and marinade were decent but couldn't save the toughness. Overall, 2/5 Chicken meatball, chicken thigh, chicken breast were all great! Good marinade and moist and juicy! They were the most enjoyable! 4/5 for all of them! The mushrooms wrapped in bacon was interesting, not my thing but interesting, not horrible but not good? I'd probably pass on it next time. 1/5 Overall, disappointed with the steak and pork belly and wouldn't spend your money on them, while chicken was good, dunno if you'd go out of the way to order it if that makes sense. Gyoza: meh, not much there with flavor or taste, not memorable at all, just mid. 2.5/5 SUSHI: Hamachi and scallion Temaki, this is served open like a "taco style" I found this to be enjoyable! The yellowtail was marinated with a subtile flavor that added to the flavor! 3.5/5 Med fatty tuna, chutoro, nigiri was great with flavor and tenderness but my only problem was that there was too mush membrane in the cut where it's hard to chew and where you need to spit it out. Just wish that wasn't there tbh, 3.5/5 The salmon and tuna flight were all great! If I were to nitpick, the rice seasoning was a bit too much, taking away from the flavor of the salmon and tuna. But overall it was enjoyable, 3.8/5 Overall, the food was good, but it is very expensive for what you get, nothing stood out to be amazing that would set this place over the many sushi places in the area. Service is good and ambiance is very pleasant just not sure if it's completely worth it Might go back but with the many options there it's hard to decide.

The ambiance was friendly and relaxed, a little too bright for our tastes but overall good. Food was the issue. TLDR Mildew/mold in the fridge affecting taste of refrigerated items ie: salads, egg/fish eggs, fried items. They apologized and gave us a discount. We were excited as we dont usually branch out sushi wise and we were disappointed. The water was pretty chlorinated which is fine (most people dont notice it) but there was a subtle unpleasant aftertaste to it. No big deal I didn't come for the water. I came hungry, trying a handful of nigiris to taste the quality of the fish. They were what I expected for the price, midrange and totally acceptable. The salmon was a bit soft but the tuna was uniform (which I appreciate). I disagree with reviews saying the fish was too thin (its AYCE just get more) and that it was "tasteless" because it wasnt. When I got to trying the tobico however, I noticed that same taste amplified, entirely overwhelming the taste of the tobico. I spit it out and moved on, ordering the massago to see if it was just that dish and it wasnt. We tried a fried roll and there was that taste again. The seaweed salad was by far the worst offender. After discussing it, the cause was clear. Heavy mildew buildup (at the least which isnt uncommon) or mold in their fridge (at worst). We are the last people to ask for a manager but it was bad enough to say something about because it put us off the rest of the food. we were hoping we had come near the end of a clean cycle and asked if there was a better time to come but we didn't get a clear answer. We also own a restaurant and understand not everything can be the absolute freshest, when its busy sometimes you miss things, and also understand it might not even be their fault. That strip (of stores) is OLD and it could be a problem with the strips pipes.

It is quite a lot for one person. ( well for me anyway). I can only comment on two types of sushi that I tried and every time I had it - well it was delicious. The salmon and avocado rolls and the red dragon roll. You just can't go wrong on that order. The ambience - they have booth tables and there are signs that say you should not clean your table after you are done as they clean up - which is awesome. Drinks are in the refrigerator on the side so you can help yourself to that when you purchase it. You can order at the counter or from a self service kiosk ( they only have one - which is quite annoying when you have to wait to order). If I had to think of a few minor improvements - they have soy sauce on the tables but I wish they had a low sodium soy sauce to offer as well. I also think that if the place got busy ordering would be an issue as they have one person taking orders and one self service kiosk. But those items are minor and I will always keep coming back for the delicious food!

Because you know, they are serving raw fish and those fish are caught by fishermen. If you love sushi, I'm fairly certain you cannot go wrong at Tachibana McLean. It's hard to believe the years I spent here might have been a part of the glory days at Tachibana. When they lost their Itamae and were weathered by covid lockdowns, I think the pace of service changed. But the quality of food never has and I've enjoyed every meal here before and since. This is a classic sushi restaurant so you will not get any sort of innovative fusion rolls here. What you will get is a strict adherence to old school tradition and a focus on quality that is worth a visit. It's hard to say favorite dishes because there are so many delicious choices here. If you are sitting at the main sushi bar, you first may enjoy a free gift of whatever the Ittamae is featuring. If you like that fish, then order more of it. For sushi and sashimi, get what you enjoy here because it's fresh and lovely. Do not miss the Philadelphia rolls here because they are extra creamy and the scallions make them a real delight. I also love the New York roll and the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Back in the day, my go-to was a spicy, crunchy salmon roll. This was always a special request but they humored me since I was a regular. I was also forever asking for a very thin slice of jalapeño in my tuna roll but you could only get that in the less-friendly and ambient sushi cafe down the street. Years later, times have changed and you can now order jalapeños, as well as tempura crumbs and spicy mayo on any roll. They have so many vegetarian rolls here, as well, so that is a whole experience if choose. You can order Japanese pickles, fermented soybean and scallion rolls, a plum and shiso roll, a gourd roll, a cucumber roll and an avocado roll. I so enjoy a big plate of veggie and shrimp tempura here. The tempura batter is not thick and just right. I also have very much liked the katsu's here: either crispy Berkshire pork loin or crispy chicken. It's an old familiar taste which you should not miss out on. The bento dinner boxes are also awesome. I usually get salmon, beef negimake, shrimp and veggie tempura, shumai dumplings and salmon sashimi. A delightful treat. The buckwheat noodles and udon soups are a bit plain and while they are classically good, i more enjoy the sushi. As for the cold sake, I recommend: the Shochikubai Nigori, the Junmai Ginjo and the cloudy pearl junmai if it's on hand. They also have Choya plum wine and a beer and wine list. You will love the green tea presentation in the gorgeous pottery, as well as that they are diligent on tea refills. Their desserts are nice but make sure you at least taste green tea ice cream once. You can get it here! It's not easy to find this at restaurants, even sushi restaurants, recently.

A recent visit began with the Japanese Fried Oyster and Takoyaki. Both were competently executed--the oysters notably fresh and delicately crisp, the takoyaki properly tender--but the accompanying sauces leaned noticeably sweet, slightly masking the savory depth one might hope for (a more restrained, teriyaki-forward profile would better suit the oysters). The Shoyu Chicken Ramen proved more compelling. Its chicken-based broth, while lighter than traditional pork tonkotsu, delivered a clean yet satisfying umami presence. The chicken itself was expertly prepared--tender, juicy, and well-integrated into the bowl. Overall, a promising addition to the local ramen scene, and one worth revisiting to explore further offerings.

For the food, the appetizer platter is a great deal for the price and offers a nice variety. The popcorn chicken had a great Sichuan kick that I really enjoyed but wasn't overly spicy. I was really excited for the beef ramen, but it was a massive letdown. The beef itself was super tough and lacked flavor. While the broth was well balanced and clean, there simply wasn't enough of it - even though I asked to skip the corn. I initially thought it would be mostly rolls, but it leaned more toward nigiri. That said, everything was super fresh and really well prepared, so no complaints there. I recently started eating seafood again after years of avoiding it, so I have been easing into it, and this was actually a really good place to do that. The fish tasted fresh, clean, and not overly fishy, which made it a lot easier to enjoy. The Osaka roll, which our server recommended, was really good, but my favorite was definitely the paradise roll from the sushi boat. Anything with shrimp tempura is a win for me, and this one hit the spot. The ambiance is cute, cozy, and on the smaller side, which made the whole experience feel more quiet and intimate. It did not feel rushed at all, which I appreciated, especially since we were breaking our fast. We ended up taking a lot of food to go because the portions were so generous, and surprisingly, everything still tasted fresh and delicious even the next two days. The only downside is that it is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, portions, and overall experience helped justify it. Overall, great quality sushi, generous portions, and a calm, intimate vibe. Definitely a spot I would come back to, especially if I am in the mood for fresh sushi without a loud or hectic atmosphere.
