The worst Japanese restaurant in the NOVA area!!! I love Japanese food and have tried many Japanese restaurants in the area. YamaChen on Main street in Fairfax is by far the worst. They heat and serve frozen food. The ramen was still NOT heated through. The Shrimp Tempura is just Costco's frozen "Kirkland Tempura Shrimp", which cost $20 for 30ct. We came here for Valentine's this year with a reservation. We had to wait 6-7 minutes to be seated even with a reservation. We ordered 2 rolls, some sashimi, and a bowl of ramen. It took about 30-40 minutes for the food to come out. I'm not sure why because it wasn't too crowded since all parties there were couples (no big groups). The rolls were good, but the sashimi were subpar, not as fresh as other sushi places I've been to, and some were a bit watery like it had just thawed after being frozen. They also don't have nigiri options. The ramen was not very good. The broth was bland and lacked that rich pork broth flavor. At the end of the meal, the server gave us 2 cheesecake samples, a rose, and a decorative plaque that lights up with their restaurant name on it, which was sweet of them. They even gave us some free appetizers and desserts to try since we hadn't been in before. The service was AMAZING and our server was so attentive and kind. Came here on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating. We were instantly greeted and sat upon arrival. The waitress was very attentive and kind. That was very sweet of them and I knew I wanted to come back and support their business. I came with my family this past weekend and they all thought it was delicious. This is a local chain out of Virginia Beach, and this is the first restaurant of its kind in the Northern Virginia area. I am happy that they took the plunge and decided to open during 2020, and I'm hoping that their quality will speak for itself and they will be around for years to come. Beautiful presentation of takeout! They even gave us miso soup on the house! Everything was clearly labeled, and my husband's two rolls were garnished with bonus edamame. Ordering was a breeze. I used the online ordering to have it ready right at 11:30 when they opened. It was ready right in time. I had my toddler in the car with me, I gave them a call to see if they could bring it out to me. They said it would be no problem at all, and they were right out. The food was great! The salmon Tataki was so fresh, and it came on a bed of seafood salad which was unique and delicious. The sweet potato roll was really good too, my only critique is that maybe they gave a little bit too much sweet potato to the point that the seaweed/rice to sweet potato ratio was a little off. My husband loved the Alaskan and spicy tuna roll too. The ginger was totally high quality and fresh.
