4.5/5 This restaurant has great quality sushi (but not amazing). However, the tuna wasn't very good and was actually a tad fishy on the day I went. The rice in nigiri is actually a very important component that goes unnoticed; the rice here wasn't fluffy or flavorful. The soy sauce was a bit salty. The tonkatsu ramen was delicious. The deep fried squid legs were solid. The food came out quickly and service was attentive. Decorations were thoughtful. Ambiance can be both casual and a bit elevated for a date night or celebration. There are other sushi spots in NOVA for similar price with better quality sushi and rice.

Fairly,I've been in almost every sushi place in my area, since it's my favorite food of all time. In this place I like modern bistro type decor,a lot of light and quiet atmosphere, My friend made girls night birthday party for 5 of us. Server was nice, but not very interested to make it more special, no favors or congratulations, she didn't have much expertise in suggesting things from menu. She even didn't bring sushi menu at all, just entrees hard cover menu. I tried 2 rolls ,both were fine in terms of quantity and quality of the fish, but no rice Geisha roll was wrapped in cucumber and cucumber was sliced too thick and roll was hard to eat. It not suppose to fall of right away, also sauce on top was tasteless. Salmon deluxe roll was good, with tang and sweet notes, some crunch and avocado creaminess inside with nice amount of salmon on top. All in all,it was ok night and not bad sushi.

Great service today for lunch. My water was filled promptly and they came multiple times to check up on me. I had the surf and turf and also the 10 pc sashimi platter. Both were decent, but the sashimi was a little tougher than I expected. Definitely on the pricier end for food around these parts of town but the quality was decent and the service made up for any of the nit picks I had.

Sushi here is super fresh and tastes great! Price is a little high but worth it for the quality you get. Service is super friendly and accommodating. Although a little bit of a language barrier when we were trying to explain what we wanted omitted from our order, but they eventually got it and we appreciated it. The space is small and cute so keep that in mind if you have a big party.

Had lunch at Sushi Umi today. The food was great. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and Otoro and ikura nigiri from the a la carte menu. My coworker had the taste of Umi lunch portion. Mine was great and filling. The fresh wasabi was a nice touch and the ramen was very flavorful. The chasu was cooked well and the egg was good. I would have also liked some nori, but I'm not going to be picky. The green tea was pretty standard but it did hit the spot. Our service was excellent. Any time we had empty dishes, they were promptly taken away without being intrusive. I consider that to be perfect service. The decor was nice with a classy feel and ambiance. There were small lamps on the table to provide and little more light and I should have taken more pics of the inside as well as the menu, but alas, I didn't. I think I was too hungry. I recommend Sushi Umi for a date or a semi-splurge lunch especially if someone else is picking up the tab. I'd come here again, though parking was a little challenging. Because it's in the corner of a strip mall, we had to park in the larger area and walk a little bit. Not that inconvenient but something to consider.

I had a good time here for dinner with a friend. Parking was a bit hard to find because it was a very busy shopping plaza. The place was smaller than I expected but provided a nice cozy vibe. I ordered Miso Soup for my appetizer, it was standard and came out hot. I also ordered the Rock & Roll and the Kubuki roll. Now that I think about it, I just realized they gave me the wrong roll but it's fine. Both were good but nothing exceptional. I preferred the Rock & Roll more as a fan of eel. The Kubuki roll was bigger and filling. It was very saucy if you are a fan of that.

Sushi Umi (along with Ariake and Sushi Cho) is easily one of my favorite local sushi spots. Every time I come here, the servers are super wonderful and very attentive. The fish is always super fresh and I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered here. My go to is the taste of Umi box. It used to come with 8 different selections of the chef's choice, but it seems like they recently changed it so there are 6 different selections (but each selection is now a bigger portion). It does make me sad since one of my favorite selections was the roe with quail egg and rice, but nevertheless, the new taste of Umi box is just as delicious as before. Overall, I love this spot for lunch or dinner--just note that dinner is double the price for the taste of Umi box. There's almost never a crowd or a long wait and the owners and everyone who works here is always super lovely.

Parking is limited, but there is parallel available along the inside street/ right next to the metro station. The entrance, though, you have to walk around the left side and up the ramp! The taste of umi was FANTASTIC. There's a lot of rice that comes under each piece, so it was a lot more filling than I thought it would be. The unagi was also incredible. The service is also wonderful- they give you space but also very attentive to your needs!

One of the best sushi places in the area. The sushi is impeccable - best quality sushi I've had. Very much comparable to Ariake. The restaurant is very nice inside - they have these cool little lamps on each table. I also got an order of udon. The udon broth was very aromatic and delicious. Not too salty. I shared the bowl with my friend. And we got 2 regular rolls and 1 specialty roll. We were full! The sushi was so soft and you can taste the greatness of the rice. It was kind of expensive compared to other restaurants but you get what you pay for! Great quality and highly recommend!

Good quality and high price. This is so far one of the three best Sushi house I have had. We ordered Kama (18), three rolls (18-20 per roll), regular sashimi (38ish), and a teriyaki beef (24ish, for my son only). The kama is lightly roasted in a very appropriate way. The skin is crunchy and the meat is very tender. Three rolls are all amazing (the best), Dragon, Umi, and Worldgate. The rice is good and thin but it is not loose, tightly accommodating all kinds of delicious staff like eel, salmon, etc. the source is sooooo good. My friend also reported the teriyaki beef with rice is well made. The only complaint is the price. Compared to a similar quality I have had in other places, this places is in a higher end of price. We spent 140 (tips not included) for these dishes.

Came here with my family, we do get sushi a lot so maybe we're biased but I would say it was good but not great. We felt it was a bit overpriced for the quality. My favorites were the rolls with cucumber on the outside, crunchy and refreshing. However, we did eat everything and the visual presentation was nice. Plus the servers were very nice.

By far my favorite sushi spot! The service is exceptional no matter how packed the place gets. Our waitress has been wonderful every time we go. The food has been consistently great with each visit. The vibes inside are so nice! The music is never too loud. I recommend this to anyone who's looking for sushi in the area.

    Tiffanie L.

The food was good, the prices might be a little higher than other places but all the rolls were delicious. The service was fine, it wasn't above and beyond but it was fine. The place is really cool, I liked the vibe but it's small.

Notes: Wasn't the biggest fan of the pink lady roll; thought the usage of soybean paper was unique but the texture was off. The end piece of my rainbow roll only having cucumber was also disappointing. The hot bar selections and sushi rolls were decent but nothing to write home to. HOWEVER, the large selection of quality sashimi cuts included in the dinner AYCE with great portions was the best part. Most restaurants would offer it as a la carte or give small cuts/selections so was pleasantly surprised. Service wise wasn't the happiest with where I was seated as the floor was still wet but the servers had to trek over it as well (should've been more adamant on sitting elsewhere).

We ultimately enjoyed our meal and will likely try it again the next time we need a change of pace from our go-to spot. The menu possesses a vast array of rolls, the majority of which hover between $15-18. Seeing the prices of the rolls and not knowing what to expect, we ended up ordering six, which ended up as too much food for the two of us. We found the rolls all well constructed and with generous quantities of the fish. The rice itself was passable. The sliced fish quality was decent, and we found the salmon and tuna particularly fresh. The "spicy" fish in the rolls left something to be desired in both the degree of spice/seasoning as well as freshness. The rolls all could have used a bit more saucing, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. The prices here are very reasonable, especially if you order online which yields a 10% discount. My order was prepared more or less on time. Overall, we liked what we sampled and will return in the near future to sample more rolls. When Kusshi opened, we gave it some time to settle in. We were here on a Sunday for an early dinner. Even though we arrived early (around 4 p.m.), a few tables were already occupied. As we entered the place, a party of four was right behind us. So it seems popular. After looking at what was available (the menu is a la carte), we placed our orders. We started with our drink orders. I ordered a hot cup of genmaicha, only to be told they were all out--bad news on such a cold day. The server offered to bring me a hot cup of barley water, which I declined and stuck with tap water. My husband ordered a Kirin Light beer. For an appetizer, we chose shishito peppers, and we both ordered miso soup. The sizable portion of peppers was well-grilled and flavored. Shishitos are tricky. For the most part, they are mild peppers. However, like Anaheim peppers, sometimes a hot pepper shows up. The first two I ate, oh...they were hot. The rest were mild. We ordered miso soup. It arrived steaming hot. It was excellent. It was a larger serving than what most Japanese restaurants provide. It had a generous amount of tofu and green onions. It was almost a meal in itself. For my main course, I chose a "rainbow roll" which consists of: "California roll with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail". It was a very generous-sized roll, well assembled. The wasabi and ginger portion was quite adequate. A bottle of low-sodium soy sauce is placed on the table. I really enjoyed this roll. My husband ordered the "Teriyaki dinner" which consists of "grilled protein, stir-fried seasonal vegetables served with steamed rice and teriyaki sauce. The choice of proteins are chicken, salmon, or shrimp. He chose chicken. It was quite a sizable portion, so we took some home to have for lunch the next day. At one point during the meal, our server brought us each a cup of hot barley water (to make up for not having hot tea). Since barley doesn't agree with me, I passed on it. Overall, the service was very friendly and efficient. The vibe definitely says "Japanese restaurant" with the decor and the requisite sushi bar. One drawback is the sound level. And, yes, we will go again.
