I'm a fan of Hama Sushi! I didn't know that they had an actual brick-and-mortar in Herndon, but I was able to stop by their sushi counter at a local hospital's food court. I was excited to find this place, as I love sushi and maki rolls - their menu included salads, specialty rolls, maki rolls, sushi combinations, as well as a chef's special. I ordered: +a Salmon Avocado Roll +a Spicy Tuna Roll Both these rolls were made-to-order; the salmon and the tuna were super fresh, the sushi rice was cooked perfectly, and, the sets come with a packet of soy sauce, a mound of wasabi, and pickled ginger. Such a filling meal, as the amount of fish was generous - I could usually scarf down 2-3 rolls, but I was struggling with just 1 set! Service was super friendly and welcoming, and very kind! Be sure to check out this local sushi spot out! +delicious, fresh maki rolls +friendly & kind staff

It was just ok. I got the spider roll tiger roll and salmon. The place itself was nice and staff was great

Spicy tuna sandwich

Great chef! He made us the spicy tuna sandwich, futomaki as prefect as though we were in Japan, and one of the best hamachi kamas ever. Nice decor and unbelievably fair price. Fresh fish and even fresher nori. What a change from some of the other sushi bars.

Worst Tonkatsu ramen I ever had... and it is pricey, too! You may be better off buying cup noodles from the Giant grocery store next door.

Oh my goodness! I love this place. I wish I lived closer. Stopped for dinner on the way back from the airport. They are SO friendly and welcoming here. The food here was very good and more than substantial for our family of 3! Our lovely server (forgot to get her name because I was too busy captivated by their hospitality!) gave us complimentary miso soup and yummy strawberries at the end. Would be very fun to take the whole family here! They have a really cute back room for parties more than 6.

This is our favorite local sushi place! The staff is so kind and friendly, and the food is always delicious and beautifully plated. Our absolute must-have is the sweet potato roll! Perfect for a casual date night.

HERNDON, VA 05/02/19 LUNCH -Unfortunately, I was subjected to food poisoning that evening through the next morning. -The customer service was lacking and very slow. -The fish was not fresh. The sushi lunch buffet spot, Matsutake, closed down so my coworkers and I don't really know where to go to get our raw fish fix on. Send some suggestions my way, please!

Recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Watched the chef place every thing with care, skill, and enjoyment. I in turn savored every bit. Really loved the spicy scallop. Everything was fresh and tasty.

This is the best place to eat sushi or teriyaki salmon if you are in the Dulles or Herndon area. Hama Sushi is a family owned business that provides excellent service with a charming music selection. It's also a great place for large group lunches or corporate dinners. Additionally they have Tatami Room if you would like an authentic Japanese dining experience.

I normally do not eat raw sushi only cooked but the spread I had was very much to my liking. I enjoy each and every bite of my food. You gotta try it. You will not be disappointed! I will be coming back again when I visit.

The sushi and Korean bibimbap both were good. The miso soup was a little too salty. The service was good and quick.

Great kalbi. Nicely charred with a rare center and juicy meat. A nice little sauteed veggie medley on the side, but I miss the banchan.

We ultimately enjoyed our meal and will likely try it again the next time we need a change of pace from our go-to spot. The menu possesses a vast array of rolls, the majority of which hover between $15-18. Seeing the prices of the rolls and not knowing what to expect, we ended up ordering six, which ended up as too much food for the two of us. We found the rolls all well constructed and with generous quantities of the fish. The rice itself was passable. The sliced fish quality was decent, and we found the salmon and tuna particularly fresh. The "spicy" fish in the rolls left something to be desired in both the degree of spice/seasoning as well as freshness. The rolls all could have used a bit more saucing, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. The prices here are very reasonable, especially if you order online which yields a 10% discount. My order was prepared more or less on time. Overall, we liked what we sampled and will return in the near future to sample more rolls. Kumo does not quite supplant our usual sushi spot, but it's a welcome addition to a takeout rotation and worth a shot for roll lovers.

Yaki Udon. Flavor was spot on, just a touch too oily. That small aspect didn't give me any hesitation to eat my daughter's leftovers.

Parking can be busy on a weekend but I lucked up and found one immediately. I was greeted and seated immediately. Everyone on the staff from the host to the server to the sushi chef were absolutely great. My server, Kevin, went above and beyond after I explained that I had some fatigue and needed a little help with the menu, especiallywith there being 100 specialty rolls. He recommended the Mafia Roll and it was sooooo good and filling! A lot bigger than I expected it to be but that was a good thing! I loved the presentation and the sushi was so fresh! I also ordered a house salad and a hand roll to hold me over. The hand roll was massive and absolutely delish! I experienced them for the first time in L A. and have been looking for ones just as good here in the area and this one was the best I've found thus far! I even got to sample the miso soup, which was perfect. I will definitely be making the drive from home to patronize them again! This was a great experience and I see why they are held with such high regard. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for fresh sushi and massive hand rolls!

The sushi was actually pretty affordable and decent in size--so refreshing to see since most places charge $18 & up for specialty roles. If that wasn't the icing on the cake, the service was just above & beyond... waitress constantly checked up on us and even struck a lil convo. Witnessing her water the plants from the distance we could really tell she cared about the restaurant (could be the owner tbh). I've been visiting the Nova area to find a good Japanese restaurant, but this one is lower than average to be honest. Sushi rice was undercooked and hard, which kills good quality sushi. In my opinion, this is the most crucial aspect for Japanese restaurants. The arrangement was okay, but they knew how to prepare the fish, but the quality was not good. We all experience inflation and shrinkage, but you should choose quality seafood. For about $30 per dish and fish, I'd rather go to a sushi buffet near me that costs $27 per person. I might give it another shot and see how it goes.

Despite a packed Father's Day crowd, the kitchen never missed a beat. The Crab & Corn Chowder was beautifully presented--rich, velvety, and generously loaded with sweet crab meat. The oysters from Maine and Rhode Island were the evening's surprise stars. As someone who typically favors the briny, ocean-forward oysters of the Pacific Northwest, I was impressed by the depth of flavor and refreshing salinity these East Coast selections offered. The grilled Arctic char was cooked with precision, its fattier flesh remaining moist, flaky, and remarkably delicate. Equally impressive were the sautéed soft-shell crabs--fresh, aromatic, and expertly prepared. Paired with the silky Lemon Beurre Blanc, they were outstanding and easily among the finest soft-shell crabs I've enjoyed in town this season.
