A hidden gem of a sushi restaurant. We had the best customer service experience ever in this restaurant with little surprises. When we came inside, we were instantly addressed and seated. The place is clean and looks like the inside of a pagoda building. My husband was surprised by the complimentary tray of edamame beans and chowed down on them excitedly. Moana was our server and very kind to us. We were impressed on how kind and accommodating she was as a server. I got the sushi roll special $20 for two select rolls. I had the Dream & Philly Roll. They both were filling and delicious. We, also, had spring rolls and cheesecake. He had stir fried rice with shrimp and said it was so good that he didn't want yum yum sauce with it. It was his first time ever. The shrimp were very large too. Highly recommend Yamachen Sushi and will visit this sushi restaurant again - as soon as possible. read more

The staff was so kind to let us in early before they really opened, we subbed the super cali roll for the lover roll. Sushi is cold just how I like it. There's so much tuna in the tuna roll and the quality of the fish is so good. The gyoza melted in the mouth and the dessert was delicious. The area is huge and I love the booth seating. 10/10 would come back! read more

Have always driven by this sushi spot and finally decided to try it. I started with their Takoyaki which was good - nice crisp outer layer with a gooey center. The sushi was good as well and more for the Americanized palette with all the sauces. Definitely not the best sushi I have had, but decent and hits the spot for a quick bite. The server was absolutely amazing as well. Apps: Takoyaki Entrees: Spicy Salmon Roll and Earthquake Roll read more

Maybe it was off day or it was because it was the middle of the afternoon, but after reading such rave reviews I was really disappointed with the sashimi. Maybe that just isn't what you order here? It's not that the fish had gone bad, it was more like it tasted like it was frozen, defrosted, frozen and then defrosted again but not completely or not correctly - there was no texture and no flavor, it was a slices of fish that were just completely blah It would be one thing if it was just one of the fish, but it was every single one in the sashimi platter. The spicy tuna roll that came with it was average. I did really like the service, our waiter was friendly and attentive and super quick in getting us water - A+ there! And in a day and age when nothing is free I really enjoyed the free edamame and the complimentary digestive drink after the meal. That's a nice touch The restaurant itself could be pretty cool, but there were some serious cobwebs in the corners - I mean, like 3 feet long dangling in front of the windows - DUDE! I get they are up high but you need to clean those! Would I recommend? I really want to love every sushi place I go to, but I like sashimi so if you can't get that right, it's a "no" for me. read more

Umm no. No flavor at all. Service is great, yes. Staff, amazing. Spot is great! But the food...like come on!! I got a lovers roll and every time I use the chopsticks, it falls apart. read more

Yelp rarely does me wrong like this. The seaweed salad was good and all of the salads were good portions. The miso soup was tasty though it was not very hot. The server was nice, gave us some free spring rolls and mini dessert cheesecakes. But the sushi itself was just not good. We (4 of us) got 9 rolls. And some nigiri. We ended up eating just over half and that's only because we were hungry. Didn't even get the rest to go. It was all dry and bland. I just don't get the rest of the reviews here. You'd be better off with grocery store sushi. read more

We ducked in here on a rainy night to try a new sushi place. It was a really nice surprise! Food (5/5): Delicious freshly made sushi. The sushi was just amazing. The Philly roll was a steal at $7. The beef avocado roll wasn't inside out (seaweed outside) so it was a bit odd. Service (5/5): The service was great! We got complementary edamame and spring rolls to try. The server was really nice. Ambiance (5/5): This place was so beautiful and nicely decorated. Even though it wasn't crowded on a Tuesday night, it had a nice feel to it. read more

I've been here 4 times now for lunch and usually get the lunch special. I don't think I'd go back. Don't get me wrong the food is OK and the price is good; the service is always quick and nice, but the food is mediocre. It's essentially grocery sushi. Yesterday was the salad tasted moldy and the ginger too. There are just so many other better restaurants in the area read more

My son wanted sushi after his graduation so we decided on sushi! As soon as you walk in the decor is captivating, A beautiful reflection of Japanese art. Our server was so sweet and very attentive. We were offered complimentary edamame. We came in during lunch hours and they do offer a pretty good lunch special. We ended up ordering the crab salad, rainbow roll, California roll, sweet potato roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The crab salad was alright, I wish there were other elements to it. It was just shredded crab with spicy mayo over. Our sushi did come out in a timely manner and it was delicious! They also offered complimentary egg rolls and little cheesecake desserts. This made my son so happy. I really enjoyed my experience here and would visit again. read more

Lovely sushi restaurant added to the Sterling area. It definitely has a bit of a fast casual but still very nice restaurant atmosphere. The decor inside was very traditional Japan theme, loved it! My boyfriend and I started off with their miso soup, very delicious. They also bought our complimentary edamame. I loved snacking on them as we were waiting for our food to come out. For appetizer we got the gyoza, fried with pork filling. It was perfectly fried with just the right amount of crispiness. The server also brought out complimentary veggie egg-rolls which were so surprisingly good. I would never order veggie egg-rolls but I loved that it was still pretty flavorful, soft yet crispy. For sushi rolls, we got the Yankee Roll (Spicy white tuna , avocado), Superman Roll (Spicy salmon , avocado) and Earthquake Roll (Spicy salmon, real crab meat , avocado). They were all so delicious, super fresh. I loved that they did not overpower the rolls by drenching it in sauce, where you are still able to taste the freshness and flavors of the fish. They are very generous with the amount of protein to rice ratio of their rolls. To end the meal, they also gave us some complimentary cheesecake bites! Amazing attention to detail and service here! read more

My family and I came to Yamachen's close to 9 tonight. The restaurant is very pretty, featuring Asian decorations. We were seated at a large booth. The menu offered a large variety of different rolls, including several different types of combos, as well as sashimi combos and hot entrees. We ordered 2 special combos, featuring the dragon, earthquake, Christmas tree, and king crab rolls. The dragon roll was your classic dragon roll - eel and avocado, always a delicious option. The earthquake roll contained salmon, avocado, and real crab. The Christmas tree roll was very unique - a spicy tuna avocado roll with 3 pieces of tuna sashimi and seaweed salad on top. The king crab roll featured shrimp tempura and real crab wrapped in soy paper. Overall, the rolls were yummy but also very saucy. My parents loved them but I thought the sauce was a bit much, the sushi tasted almost creamy. Our waiter was super patient with us and super kind. We were given edamame, spring rolls, and mini cheesecakes on the house. We will likely be coming again! read more

Quality and quantity of the sushi here is fantastic. Reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. This place is a regular for us.

Ordered take out from here tonight since the wife was craving some sushi. I've heard decent things about this place and was looking forward to trying it out. We ordered 5 rolls, Alaskan, Rainbow, Eel avocado, Earthquake, Spicy Salmon. I'd have say the flavor of all but the Earthquake roll was lackluster. The portions were huge but the taste was meh. I really wanted to enjoy the food here but it didn't hit the spot. I would recommend Passion Fin in Ashburn if you're craving for good sushi. They get 3 stars because of the nice servers that greeted me to check me out for the take out and the restaurant looks nice. read more

Let's start off by saying I was worried when we placed an order for pickup. The guy who answered did not even ask for a name on the order. My husband double checked everything when he arrived for the pickup. It was no surprise they messed up our order. He ordered a tuna avocado and got a tuna roll and avocado roll not tuna avocado. Instead of fixing it and making a new one they charge him for one roll of tuna. That's not what he ordered. Second my order of shrimp tempura came with imitation crab which I have never seen and no where on the menu did I see that. Given I have allergies this is an issue. My spicy tuna wasn't spicy but sweet instead the topping was odd to say the least. Overall this place missed the mark and we will not be returning. They can't even get a simple order correctly. read more

Yamachen's sushi is a very different kind of sushi place. I felt like it was both casual and just a tad upscale because of the fact that it is a sit down restaurant with beyond average customer service. You are greeted and seated upon entering with a warm welcomed feeling. There are plenty of booths, more than not which I love! I got the 2 roll combo with a side of salad as did my husband. We were given complimentary edamame, eggrolls (so delicious), and cheesecake bites for dessert! I was surprised at how much extra stuff we got and it made our experience that much better! The rolls I ordered were also made so well and the fish was all super fresh. Instead of imitation crab, you get real crab! Overall, we had a way better than expected experience! So glad we came here and will be back! read more

This is the third move with My Guys Moving. I will call them again when the time comes for the next move. Donald and his team were very professional and friendly. Shocked that this place isn't more crowded on a weekend evening. The decor was bright and clean, with a romantic portrayal of a traditional Japanese sushi house. Service was quick and attentive; the server gave recommendations and made sure our orders were entered in to quality for the lower combo price. While we waited, we were served a complimentary edamame appetizer and were given just the right amount of space to take in the delicate music and scenery. For drinks, I had hot filtered sake, my husband had cold unfiltered sake-- both of which were fairly priced. When the sushi came, it was beautifully plated and had wasabi, ginger, seaweed salad, and a dazzling orchid garnish. I had a spicy salmon roll and specialty Hawaiian roll. Both tasted delicious and fresh! At the very end of our meal, our server surprised us with a small cheesecake treat. Our new go-to date night spot! read more

This place was so inviting and the decor was an eye catcher. The booths were very comfortable to sit at, as well as nice material. The server was amazing, the most welcoming and sweet encounter. However, I feel like quality of the food did not match. I want this place to succeed and am hoping for the following descriptions to be taken as advice to enhance the food/experience. We ordered the miso soup which tasted a little bland and unsavory. We also ordered the salad that had a great dressing, however the greens had a dirt like flavor to them. The green tea tasted like burnt water and the spring rolls had a great crunch but the inside was mushy. I will say that the fried gyoza/potstickers were flavorful and had a crispy outside. And the sushi was the most loved out of everything we ordered. The sushi rolls we ordered were the King Crab 7/10, Spicy California Roll 8/10, Shrimp Tempura 7/10, and the Lover 6/10. This place definitely has the potential to be a top sushi spot. read more

Great sushi addition to Sterling! We were seated promptly and a bowl of complimentary edamame arrived shortly after. Then some amazing fried spring rolls - crispy and hot. We got steamed gyoza to share. All perfect. We got 3 rolls to share: crazy volcano, Yama and earthquake. All amazing and so fresh!! We will definitely be adding this spot to our rotation. read more

Based on some great Yelp reviews we decided to venture on to route 7. Just passed Cascade's parkway, this little place is tucked in a new strip mall flanked by a Greek restaurant and a Vietnamese and Tea place. Staff was super friendly and very attentive. Our water and beer were brought quickly. We were also given complimentary edamame and spring rolls. We added pork fried dumplings. Everything was delicious and fresh made. Their menu was primarily sushi. They have a small hot kitchen menu. Apparently their menu is being updated to add some beef items. The sushi was huge and plenty to fill a hungry stomach. The meal ended with complimentary bite sized cheesecakes. Everything was delicious. The restaurant had some cool wall art. Looked like there was plenty of take out business. read more

I ordered takeout from this place about 20 min before closing. There was NOBODY dining in the restaurant. Still I was greeted immediately by a server that took my order and brought me my food in a prompt manner. My experience with this restaurant was not the great. The ambiance and decor of this restaurant was very nice BUT the food is straight up NASTY. I ordered the Dragon Roll, Crazy Volcano Row, Rainbow Row, and Sashimi Platter. The Dragon Roll was decent, however, the real disappointment was the raw fish on the Rainbow Roll and Sashimi Platter. The Sashimi was...FROZEN...rock hard solid. You can clearly see the frost bites on the sashimi and it tasted very fishy, almost expired. The rolls looked like a 3rd grader crafted it together, it was dissembled and again, fish was FROZEN. Truly unacceptable. For the price this restaurant, better off going to a different place. Honestly, sushi that you would get at the Grocery Store is way better than this place. We decided to also order the Miso Soup, because you can't possible screw up Miso soup. I was wrong, the Miso Soup tasted absolutely disgusting and it tasted very sweet. It doesn't even taste like Miso Soup, I don't think you can even call it Miso Soup, truly horrible. We complained to the staff, which looked like there was only 1 staff working that day and he didn't even acknowledged our complaint. Never coming back, save your money. read more

Hidden gem in Sterling We were greeted by a beautifully decorated restaurant with pagoda style structures around the tables decorated beautifully with flowers and vines. We ordered house salads, miso soups and a roll each. The house salads were a peanut style dressing which was given in a plastic cup to pour over yourself. The miso was very yummy filled with tofu and seaweed. Then we're given spring rolls with our sushi and after we were given small cheesecake bites to top it all off. The food was high quality, full of flavor and so yummy. The sushi felt fresh and the appetizers and lil desserts were perfect. Not to mention really fair pricing, it was well worth what we paid for everything. We definitely will be back here again. read more

Excellent sushi, I stop by because it's on my way home when I have a craving for sushi

This should be a 3.5 stars, but I can't give them 4 stars. Location is newly established and renovated, inside is clean and quiet. They are not understaffed, like many others, food was delivered quickly. Food itself was a little above average, fish was fresh, prices are moderate. Now to negative things: we asked to substitute avocados in the roll with cucumber, server replied that it is not possible. They brought complimentary edamame ice cold,I asked is it possible to heat up them and server answered that for heated edamame they have to charge!!! This seems weird. All in all,I don't think we will be back to this location, but nothing was horribly wrong. read more
