Have always driven by this sushi spot and finally decided to try it. I started with their Takoyaki which was good - nice crisp outer layer with a gooey center. Maybe it was off day or it was because it was the middle of the afternoon, but after reading such rave reviews I was really disappointed with the sashimi. Maybe that just isn't what you order here? It's not that the fish had gone bad, it was more like it tasted like it was frozen, defrosted, frozen and then defrosted again but not completely or not correctly - there was no texture and no flavor, it was a slices of fish that were just completely blah It would be one thing if it was just one of the fish, but it was every single one in the sashimi platter. The spicy tuna roll that came with it was average. I did really like the service, our waiter was friendly and attentive and super quick in getting us water - A+ there! And in a day and age when nothing is free I really enjoyed the free edamame and the complimentary digestive drink after the meal. That's a nice touch The restaurant itself could be pretty cool, but there were some serious cobwebs in the corners - I mean, like 3 feet long dangling in front of the windows - DUDE! I get they are up high but you need to clean those! Would I recommend? Yelp rarely does me wrong like this. The seaweed salad was good and all of the salads were good portions. The miso soup was tasty though it was not very hot. The server was nice, gave us some free spring rolls and mini dessert cheesecakes. But the sushi itself was just not good. We (4 of us) got 9 rolls. And some nigiri. We ended up eating just over half and that's only because we were hungry. Didn't even get the rest to go. It was all dry and bland. I just don't get the rest of the reviews here. For appetizer we got the gyoza, fried with pork filling. It was perfectly fried with just the right amount of crispiness. My family and I came to Yamachen's close to 9 tonight. The restaurant is very pretty, featuring Asian decorations. We were seated at a large booth. The menu offered a large variety of different rolls, including several different types of combos, as well as sashimi combos and hot entrees. We ordered 2 special combos, featuring the dragon, earthquake, Christmas tree, and king crab rolls. The dragon roll was your classic dragon roll - eel and avocado, always a delicious option. The earthquake roll contained salmon, avocado, and real crab. The Christmas tree roll was very unique - a spicy tuna avocado roll with 3 pieces of tuna sashimi and seaweed salad on top. The king crab roll featured shrimp tempura and real crab wrapped in soy paper. Overall, the rolls were yummy but also very saucy. My parents loved them but I thought the sauce was a bit much, the sushi tasted almost creamy. Our waiter was super patient with us and super kind. Let's start off by saying I was worried when we placed an order for pickup. The guy who answered did not even ask for a name on the order. My husband double checked everything when he arrived for the pickup. It was no surprise they messed up our order. He ordered a tuna avocado and got a tuna roll and avocado roll not tuna avocado. Instead of fixing it and making a new one they charge him for one roll of tuna. That's not what he ordered. Second my order of shrimp tempura came with imitation crab which I have never seen and no where on the menu did I see that. Given I have allergies this is an issue. Just passed Cascade's parkway, this little place is tucked in a new strip mall flanked by a Greek restaurant and a Vietnamese and Tea place. Staff was super friendly and very attentive. Their menu was primarily sushi. They have a small hot kitchen menu. Apparently their menu is being updated to add some beef items. The sushi was huge and plenty to fill a hungry stomach. My experience with this restaurant was not the great. The ambiance and decor of this restaurant was very nice BUT the food is straight up NASTY. I ordered the Dragon Roll, Crazy Volcano Row, Rainbow Row, and Sashimi Platter. The Dragon Roll was decent, however, the real disappointment was the raw fish on the Rainbow Roll and Sashimi Platter. The Sashimi was...FROZEN...rock hard solid. You can clearly see the frost bites on the sashimi and it tasted very fishy, almost expired. The rolls looked like a 3rd grader crafted it together, it was dissembled and again, fish was FROZEN. Truly unacceptable. For the price this restaurant, better off going to a different place. Honestly, sushi that you would get at the Grocery Store is way better than this place. We decided to also order the Miso Soup, because you can't possible screw up Miso soup. I was wrong, the Miso Soup tasted absolutely disgusting and it tasted very sweet. It doesn't even taste like Miso Soup, I don't think you can even call it Miso Soup, truly horrible. Hidden gem in Sterling We were greeted by a beautifully decorated restaurant with pagoda style structures around the tables decorated beautifully with flowers and vines. We ordered house salads, miso soups and a roll each. The house salads were a peanut style dressing which was given in a plastic cup to pour over yourself. The miso was very yummy filled with tofu and seaweed. Then we're given spring rolls with our sushi and after we were given small cheesecake bites to top it all off. The food was high quality, full of flavor and so yummy. The sushi felt fresh and the appetizers and lil desserts were perfect. The only other ramen at a restaurant that I have been to which compares to Yamachen's is Umai Ramen in Herndon--which *is* better, but Yamachen's doesn't even specialise in ramen. The sushi was rather good. I have definitely had better but it was by no means *bad*. It simply didn't stand out as being excellent. The music is nice, peaceful, relaxing and slow with just enough of a tempo and flow to not fade away into the background yet remains unassertive and a pleasant backing to the food. Think the classic instrumental tavern music of fantasy settings in how it guides the flow and mood towards joyful celebration; albeit gentler and more peaceful instead of raucous happiness and merriment. Although getting to the place is a little confusing and the intersection seems prone to getting backed up, it is still quite conveniently located by the Loudoun NoVA college campus; and I hope to enjoy many an after-class meal here while studying. If I had to choose *something* to genuinely *complain* about, I would say the snap peas given as a free appetizer could use a bit more salt and maybe a tiny dash of wasabi and the faintest--and I do mean faintest--bit of citrus to better contrast and amplify the beer and other foods they are to be eaten with. read more

Food was descent. Basic Asian fast food frozen hors d'oeuvres. It is not authentic Japanese. The Tempura was ok for an hors d'oeuvres not a dinner entree, The batter was more for onion rings not the classic light Japanese batter,with no tempura tentsuyu. The Yakasoba was terrible consisted of all Lima beans or edamame, the noodles were not soba. No yakisoba sauce taste.The cucumber salad was the basic American cucumber( not Japanese or Persian peeled like strings with no sunomono taste. The appeal was awesome but use your overhead on the quality of Japanese food instead of the to go boxes or chopsticks. We were immediately greeted and sat, the service was AMAZING, and we were immediately given complimentary edamame. We ordered unfiltered sake (highly recommend) and the boat combo #2. Everything came out perfect with very little wait, and was enough food for 3 people in my opinion.
