The salmon roll was sadly a letdown; it wasn't even as good as some I've eaten at midrange all you can eat restaurants. Decided to go here with a group for an evening dinner near Ashburn. The service was friendly, but a little on the slow side, and we had some slight mix-ups/miscommunications that ended up causing some confusion. The presentation of the sushi we received was definitely nice! Taste-wise it was just alright, not many things stood out to me due to the overreliance on sauce, and the sushi is a bit on the pricey side. My favorite roll to usually get at sushi places in the US: the spider roll with fried soft-shell crab, didn't really have me feeling any kind of way, perhaps it could use more crab meat and less veggies as filler. One thing I wish they did was clarify which rolls were what, it led to a lot of confusion because someone in our group ordered 2 more rolls after our initial order, and they came out at a weird pace; 1 of the rolls came with our large plate and the 2nd roll came way later. This caused some confusion as that member assumed he only received 1 roll while the other members ate off the larger plate. All in all it was just an unfortunate mix-up, but better communication from the staff would've been nice to alleviate it. read more

Wanted to try a new sushi restaurant before going grocery shopping at a nearby grocery store. Came in well after dinner hour on a Saturday evening, so the restaurant was empty. Sat down, ordered some water and a miso soup while deciding on what sushi to order. Placed an initial order of a spicy shrimp roll, yellowtail and avocado roll and a soft shell crab hand roll. Never like to over order what I think I can eat in one sitting. After finishing these three delicious rolls, I was still hungry. The spicy shrimp roll had quite a kick to it, didn't even need the wasabi I ate with the rest of the rolls. So I then ordered two additional rolls -- another yellowtail with avocado and a shrimp with avocado. They were also both delicious and now I was getting completely full. Didn't order dessert, nor was asked, but the service was excellent. Waitress kept checking with me throughout whether I needed anything and gave me plenty of time to look at the menu and make decisions. Me, my nephew, and a buddy of mine came here yesterday, not on purpose, but out of convenience. We were in the area and my buddy was in the mood for sushi so we stopped by before hitting up a winery. This place only serves sushi so don't come here thinking you'll get cooked food. The sushi menu is pretty abundant for both Nigiri and Rolls. The Tuna and Avocado and Salmon and Avocado rolls were very fresh and tasty. I was glad to see they serve sake here as well. Overall, it was a good experience. A very decent sushi restaurant in Ashburn! I give props to my sister on this one. This is one of my sister's favorite sushi restaurants and she took me out here for dinner. The best time coming here is when the aren't many customers. You don't have to wait long for the food and the sushi tastes so fresh! For starters, we both ordered Miso Soup ($1.50 x 2), my sister ordered the Salmon Cream roll ($6.75) and Super Philly roll ($8.25) while I ordered the Spicy Tuna roll ($4.95) and Spicy Salmon roll ($4.75). The total was close to $30 and that's not bad for the two of us. The sushi tasted fresh and well prepared. Each roll is 6 pieces and it was filling for the both of us sharing. The rolls weren't too big so it was easy to eat in every bite. I believe this restaurant has lunch and dinner specials that I'll try next time! Apps like shumai, gyoza and soft shell crab tempura is fresh and perfectly cooked. They also offer specialty rolls that change on a daily basis. Last time they had a spicy roll with chopped tuna, salmon and whitefish topped with onion flakes. Super good! Unlike many sushi places, Samurai has a great selection of wines, beers and cold and hot sake. This place is our go to in Loudoun. The only reason it is missing a star is the casual ambience. This place is really small so I would not suggest large groups. Due to the occasion I wish the inside was nicer. But hey we were there for food not atmosphere! Ok on to the food! It was my husband's birthday, so we decided to try a lot of items on the sushi menu and I can't quite remember the name of each roll. We did try a lot of speciality rolls and each one was spectacular! 1.baltimore Roll -my family's favorite! Hands down this roll was amazing and it won our hearts. It was so good I ordered more to go! 2. Miso soup- was delicious! 3 . Philadelphia roll- was great as well! I really wish I could remember the names of the other rolls because they were soO good (but I did take a photo). I even tried a raw sushi roll my husband ordered and it was good as well(note: I never eat raw rolls) . Everything here tasted great and I am normally upset with how much my sushi tabs are but I was so pleased with everything, it didn't phase me at all! My absolute favorite sushi place, dine-in or take-out. Quality across the whole menu is excellent. All their food is fresh, tastes great, and generously portioned. The clear choice for value: they serve much better sushi for the price, compared to the standard cost in this area. I always get classic favorites (Philadelphia roll with fresh salmon, Sapporo roll) and mix it up with some day-to-day new surprises (the salmon cream roll is phenomenal). My husband doesn't eat sushi, but their other fare is also delicious - he loves the Teriyaki Chicken, and gets it Spicy; sometimes he'll convince me I want sushi just so he has a reason to order this! The whole place is clean, seafood is very well-sourced and kept exceedingly fresh, so theirs is the only sushi I could eat while pregnant (and I never had trouble, even then). We used to come here all the time a few years ago, but it's a bit of a hike so we gradually stopped going after we found a decent place much closer to home. We came in again the other night and looked at each other and were like, why did we stop? The quality of the sushi is awesome. The rolls I get at our other place are identical to Samurai's Vegas roll and it has a smokey flavor that I've never tasted anywhere else. Their spicy mayo is richer and much better than anywhere else I've found. The cherry on top? It's so much cheaper than our other places! Let's do a quick comparison... Other place: 4-5 rolls, no appetizers or drinks (miso and steaming veggies are included here) = $70+ Samurai: 6 rolls, gyoza dumplings, edamame, miso soup & seaweed salad = $60!!
